What’s striking about “Brothers In Arms” is just how much Knopfler manages to convey in a minimum of words. With startling efficiency, he inhabits the soul of a wounded soldier who muses on his surroundings and waxes philosophical as his life ebbs out. It seems likely that Knopfler had the Falklands War, which took place in 1982 between the United Kingdom and Argentina, in mind when he wrote the song. But by keeping specifics out of the narrative, he makes the song a timeless treatise on the senselessness of war.
Mark knopfler one of the best lyricists of my generation, also one of the greatest guitarists of all time been listening to them since 70s now 69 years old still love listening to them every day
The conversation is having between his audience and guitar about the horrors and hardships of the Falkland war ...smooth subtle and just the right amount of intensity to get his point across
Hey, nice reaction to my fave guitarist. Calling Elvis from this concert is just as beautiful. Love your channel. Cheers, all the best from Australia. 👍🎸🎸🎸
Imagine being someone who writes a song like this. Lol. It wouldn't be so funny if it was just the one masterpiece. Knopfler has Penned, recorded and performed so many masterful songs, it's crazy. He's the real deal. Top shelf. A virtuoso. He's so humble too. Great reaction.
Mark had a good friend who was killed in the Falklands war and wrote the song in his memory. A stunning masterpiece fit to commemorate his life and dedication and the ultimate futility of war.
Have a quick look at the studio version, the video compliments the song beautifully. Every. Service person can identify with this, I was a Med Tech myself…..
Our Gen thought Humans learnd about War ... seems we failed ... still fighting not for Rights , our wants and needs to have is still the reason for Freak out 😔 shame on Us
Having done some Home Free reactions, it wouldn't surprise me if they did a very respectable rendition of this. For me, his guitar added something special to the song, but Home Free does usually do good at hitting the same feels. I may make that rendition my next reaction for Home Free when I get to them and see for myself.
That is a genuine reaction to a legendary song. You're a true music fan.

I'll definitely make sure to have that added to my watch queue.
Loved your reaction so genuine it got me the same way the first time I heard it 30 years ago and still does!
This song should be the 8th wonder of the world 🥺
Top 3 songs of all time for me.....

Hey doc, navy 72-79 here. Thank you brother
You as well! ⚓
It hits home for all that have served. Particularly as it is sung from from the view of one who dies on the field. "Now the sun's gone to hell".
Another great Dire Straits reaction. Thanks.
I knew you would be moved.....It is a wonderful tribute to all who Served and those who never made it back
I'm not crying! You're crying!
Greetings from Canada. Good, wasn't it? Peace, love and bellbottoms.
Good is a very light way of putting it lol.

Its totally about the military, written in relation to the Falklands war.
-We can see a classic scene with this song, on the TV show "Miami Vice" in the 1980's, (in last scene of the episode: 'Out Where the Buses Don't Run')
Do either sultans of swing live at alchemy or 1986 or 1993 Romeo and Juliet live
If you don't weep you don't feel.
Calling Elvis is so good from this concert, cheers 👍👍
And we count the bags... and make a note.. for the new acquisitions order.
Yes. We are fools...
You have to watch the video now! Prepare your handkerchief this time ;-)

Home Free does a beautiful a capella cover of this song. I actually prefer Home Free's version.
You can't beat Marks emotional guitar
