I’ve always loved the little line at the beginning: “plus expenses”. He must’ve been watching reruns of the Rockford Files while he was out in Los Angeles in early 80s.
Dire Straits 3rd album was called Making Movies. The movies are the songs. He is the best at matching the music. Listen to the differences between, say, Private Investigations, Ride Across The River. Ride Across The River is really interesting because there is very minimal use of drums, but a lot of inventive percussion to simulate musically a Central American jungle.
This whole concert is so good. Calling Elvis and Brothers In Arms from this is something else. And if you ever get to review Brothers In Arms from this, every other reactor I've seen had goose bumps and were tearing up. His playing on that Pensa Suhr is something to behold. He makes that guitar cry like no other. Anyway loving your channel. Cheers all the best from Australia. 👍🎸🎸🎸
Thanks! I actually have Brothers in Arms from this concert in my watch list. I was planning on making that my next Dire Straits video because I feel I've seen that song suggested quite a few times.
The version from the Mandela show is generally recognised as the definitive version of Brothers In Arms among fans. Personally I'm not fond of versions from this tour at all.
@@NavyDoc5184Reacts Mark Knopfler sold that magnificent Pensa Suhr MK1 @MinistryOfDarkness11 mentioned for £504,000 earlier this year! That's pounds sterling, not US dollars. It was one of over 100 guitars, amps and other equipment that together made over £8m with a sizeable amount donated to charity. I still can't believe that was one of those he auctioned. It was one of his most iconic guitars, custom designed to be able to approximate the sound of either a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul so Mark didn't have to keep changing guitars so often during gigs. He played it extensively from the late '80s through the '90s.
Greetings from Canada. Don't think that was a sax... I think it was an EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), maybe an Akai 6000 (or earlier relative). Peace, love and bellbottoms.
"The Man is Too Strong" - Another masterpiece of storytelling and music (and, similarly, musically sound effects). Worthwhile!
The tension throughout the song is almost unbearable... 🔥🔥🔥

And I love the detail of that...something that little having such a huge effect
se concert c'était dans les Arènes de Nîmes en France 😊😊

That's Phil Palmer on the second guitar, he also played with Eric Clapton and Tina Turner
Doesn't he play the pedal steel on "Calling Elvis"?
@@lewismaddox4132 No, that's Paul Franklin
@@StevenQ74 Appreciate the insight.

@@DavidG-u2k I am. Each to their own. This version has better sound quality. It's an official release.

Oh to be there...musical genius at its very best!
That's definitely something I would have loved to have been at and seen.
It definitely could be the soundtrack of a detective film noir movie. Soooo effin good
Easily.

As well as sax and multiple other wind instruments. He's very talented. I have his album Jericho Walls. Beautiful for a relaxing midnight wind down.👍
Well whatever instrument it was, it was a great touch for the song.
@@NavyDoc5184Reacts Yes indeed. That's why I like it better than Alchemy version and that's saying something. 🤘
It's an soprano sax
