I don't even like baseball but this guy style of pitches was out of this world, most elegant pitcher on MLB, glad I could see him perform as a kid on my hometown in Cuba ❤
Great video, thank you for posting. My late step-dad loved his nickname. I loved his pitching style, it definitely sets him apartment from most pitchers.
What an amazing story his brother and him making it to the U.S.A so they could finally get paid for their talents. Both win a World Series in their MLB rookie year.
I literally based my motion off this guy and it worked! Did the high kick and modified it. High kick and throw from behind my head and it helped a lot.
dude would pitch to a 3.8 ERA with 4-5 walks a game all season. then torre would wake him up from a nap and say "its postseason" and he became greg maddux.
He was here in Costa Rica for a while after his escape from Cuba. He requested asylum before being picked up by the Yankees, while still practicing at the same time. You may find people here in Costa Rica who remember El Duque.

El duque was a magician. Too bad we never got to see him in his prime. But we saw enough…one of the greatest post season pitchers ever.
Dude was a legend amongst us when we were kids lol we all would imitate his wind up
As a Yankees fan can we just go back to the late 90s please
I'll join you. My dad went to his debut game.
I used to love watching him pitch. His wind up was the best.
Louis Tiant-esque.
I don't even like baseball but this guy style of pitches was out of this world, most elegant pitcher on MLB, glad I could see him perform as a kid on my hometown in Cuba ❤

Gracias Duke, eres grande!!
God, I loved him.
Man, those were the days.
Yup I miss these days too I was a teen watching El Duque raising his leg 🦵🏾 high as hell hiding his pitch
The movement on some of his off-speed pitches was incredible
Mets fan..El Duque is one of my all time favorites, loved the fans and was a real showman, commanded his pitches well and was most importantly,Clutch

One of my favorite Yankees of that era.
I loved watching him pitch. Everyone did.

Orlando El Duque Hernandez del Guajay ,Boyeros Cuba para el Mundo !
Wajay!
He is just the BEST!!!
Mohamad Suleiman so dominant in his career in the postseason
La Poopy is an overrated POS; his name alone represents what he really is
Just a asboulute pro in the post season🇨🇺🇨🇺
Who remembers in nyc when they had his windup as a commercial 😂😂 dude was phenomenon when he got hot
The smoothest delivery ever.

The best Cuban pitcher.
Luis tiant cough cough
He makes other pitchers look mechanical with how smooth his pitching motion is
Best windup in mlb history
Luis tiant cough cough
I saw him to many times in my hometown Santa Clara Cuba pitching vs Rolando Arrojo the good all times of the Cuban baseball.
So stylish...I miss seeing him pitch. Thornton with the Blue Jays obviously watched El Duque pitch but he doesn't have the tight high leg kick.
This is the baseball from my childhood

Left Cuba and lived in Alajuela, Costa Rica in 83 before coming to the U.S. and what a wonderful place. We remember Costa Rica fondly. Pura Vida!
Is funny when he threw the glove to firts😂😂
La Leyenda !!!
If you have never seen espn 30 for 30 brothers in exile it's a must watch

I wish he did the high leg kick when throwing out the first pitch! Haha all time favorite pitcher
Was def. Thinking the same!

Man some of those calls by the umpire were atrocious. They are lucky they didn’t have the strike zone on tv back then or people would riot
@Lighthouse in the Storm some of those pitches called strikes were way out of the zone.
