A competition show I had great hopes for was completely ruined by the production company's insistence on drama and rivalry. The competitors, some of whom I've met, were actually friendly with each other, willing to help one another, and genuinely enthusiastic about each other's successes and creativity. I was on the Great American BAking show that was filmed in a tent in London. The production staff and those that made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed are the true work horses of the tent! As for the bakers, we just had to do what we loved most ( and not try to screw it up) Plus working around the producers, hosts, judges... there were roughly 35 people in the tent at all times. The editors really know how to do their magic... All in all, it was a wonderful experience and something I will never forget. Just follow your dreams and have fun!
This may seem like a rude question, but it’s a very practical one. I’ve always wondered, if bakers are busy inside the tent for hours on end, where do they go to the bathroom? I hope they don’t have to walk back to the hotel each time since they’d be away from their baking too long, and I don’t think an outhouse would be sanitary enough when working with food. I’m just wondering because I am a senior citizen with bladder issues, but I love to bake.

What I enjoy most about the show, other than wanting to eat much of what they bake, is the sense of family that is engendered among the contestants, judges and hosts. It makes the program very fun to watch. Even though they're competing they support each other. It also teaches me things I didn't know about baking.
It is heartbreaking that bad people would do that. I wish bullied people would simply not care, but if you are a good person, that would bother anyone.
I love the British Bake Off. My mother and I watched on PBS and not only because we both love to bake, but because the people on the show were incredibly kind to one another. It is refreshing to see people competing for a cake plate and doing what they all love.
I love this show so much. I watch it with my mom and it has gotten us closer. We cheered when Rahul won, screamed when Liam was kicked off, and laughed at all the Paul jokes made. So happy this show exists.
I am so sad to learn that there was bullying. The show is wonderful, in great part because of the easy relationships and beautiful British courtesy displayed at all times. I am glad to know that it's genuine and I hope they know to ignore those naysayers.
I was very apprehensive when I saw that title "bullying", and was all set to boycott the show (despite how much I enjoy it) if it was Paul or Pru or the producers or anything like that. Turns out it's where the bulk of this negativity comes from (the internet), and the showrunners and judges come out swinging in defence of the contestants. Made me like the show even more.
In the beginning there used to be something called Masterclass where you would watch Mary and Paul create the technical they were asking everyone to bake. I can't believe those weren't baked completely by them. Perhaps after Mary left it fell to the staff?
Yeah when I heard her comment about that I was like “what are you talking about? It’s still going on.” These types of videos always try to act like they know everything but fail miserably with the facts and the pronunciation of multiple words. Haha
The KINDNESS of this show is its appeal to me!! What a shame bullying occurs. I literally started watching this show after hearing Jonathan Van Ness mention his favorite contestant on some one of the many videos I watched after obsessing over the kindness of Queer Eye.

I’m in the US where reality 🎉tv shows have become so bombastic I don’t watch too much. There always has to be some drama including screaming, backstabbing, tears etc., usually manufactured for viewers. Then I started watching Bake Off and it’s wonderful. No shouting, arguing and all that. They bakers help each other and encourage each other, they are kind to each other. I’d much rather watch a program like Bake Off. Even the hosts are all kind and you can see how it hurts them when they have to let a baker leave. I wish US tv programs were like Bake Off.
we love this show in america! i watch this with my grand daughter,it’s fun, very calming not so cut throat like american cooking shows and no drama 😊just lovely
What I’ve always liked about this show, and what brings me back, is that the bakers are always on a level playing field. The contestants know going in what they’ll be expected to bake, i.e., bread week, dessert week, and so on. There are no advantages that contestants can win, unsuitable partners aren’t forced upon them, and everyone can bake using the ingredients they wish to use. So, at the end we can be sure that whoever is crowned champion actually deserves it and did not win through luck. And all the bakers are true artists. Here in the US we’re treated to a game show atmosphere. Everyone is talented, but does the winner truly deserve it?
You should have mentioned in the spin off section, the fact that many other countries have developed their own version of the show. The Great Australian Bake Off (if you ignore an abysmal first season) is just as lovely and enjoyable. Matt and Maggie (a true Aussie legend) are great judges and the show is in a shed instead of a tent. The banter between Clair and Mel very much reminds of of the banter between Sue and Mel from the first seasons of GBBO. Long story short, I absolutely love both shows and hope they continue indefinitely.
@@Potter2984 No, I was meaning because they said it was axed in 2018 after series 2 which clearly is what happened in America. In my experience having watched a lot of badly researched UA-cam videos, there's a lot of assumption that what occurs in America is what occurs everywhere.
What does the GBBO really have that draws the viewers and TRUE fans? THEY ALL HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!!! If none of these people had a sense of humor, they wouldn't be so friendly with each other, they wouldn't be able to make fun of themselves and laugh, they wouldn't be able to stand there and cry when someone leaves.......or clap their hands when someone comes back! Humor leads to the friendship, understanding, and love these people have with each other. They take life seriously, but they know life isn't a solid built road you travel on........it's got potholes, bumps, and cracks all over it. And you just deal with them as they come. If the people on this show didn't leave the audience laughing, loving, and hugging at the end of every show.........it wouldn't be the staple of awesome TV that it is.
One of my favourite shows. Also the Sewing Bee on BBC and the Pottery Throw down on Ch4 are actuslly really popular in the Uk contrary to the commentary I this video. New series of GBBO starts very soon cannot wait 🥐🥨🥯🍞🍰🎂
Love GBBS! Can't wait for another season! We really like it as a family show, without fake drama & inappropriate stuff - BUT sometimes the hosts, esp 1 with no hair in particular, ruin what is good clean fun with rude jokes. Enough already. People LOVE this show b/c it doesn't have crap like that in it (mostly).
Nice video, but small correction. It's a production company that makes GBBO, not the BBC. GBBO used to be on the BBC, but then moved to a different channel (I guess Americans would call it network). The Great Pottery Throw Down (which is chill to watch) shares a similar story: originally on BBC, then moved to a different channel.
I get the feeling Mashed has no idea who James Acaster is. Not even showing him in the celebrity bake off scenes but rather as a "cheeky" regular contestant. Also, very few chef hosts cook the food they present on TV.
Love this show!!! Guiseppe was my absolure favorite! What a dear man, and amazing baker!!! Paul Hollywood is pure eye 🍬candy! Prue is a wonderful lady. Great show!! Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
The great pottery throwdown has not been axed it was asked but it was brought back because people wanted it. And they did change the layout of the program and how they filmed it and it is more successful then it was the first series
The show has grown far too comfortable with its smutty jokes ever since Matt came along. Constantly making sexual jokes hardly constitutes a "family show". Not to mention he just isn't funny. It's a shame too considering Noel and Sandi were such a good combo.
I always liked Matt as a comedian and actor and was excited that he was going to be on after Sandi left. I was so disappointed though. He is not funny, just cringe-worthy and awkward. Mel and Sue were wonderful, and Noel is really just silly cute, but Matt can go away in my opinion.
Bake Off wasn’t the first programme with a weekly elimination format, nor the most popular. Strictly Come Dancing became a world wide success (renamed Dance with the Stars elsewhere).
Love the show but do think the innuendo has gotten increasingly smutty! Please tone it down a bit! The show is so good! It doesn’t need the vulgarity, especially as many children watch the show with their family!
I love this show and how insanely well these contestants cook! I think, "I can do that!" then.... "nah" I don't have the experience or knowledge they do and they're amateurs! I have kept a list of what they make, so some day... They are always kind to each other and I really enjoy the humour- very British and seriously raunchy at times. Belly laughs are hard to come by these days.
I think Netflix will add a new season around September. I hope anyway. I love this show, and it's the only way to watch it in the US. Only way I know, anyway.
The great British fake off. I will never forget senile old Mary on Chris Evans breakfast show revealing how Nadiya had won the series before ep 4 was even shown then doing the fastest backpedal ever and trying to make out she meant the showstopper while Chris frantically covered. And the BBC had her tied to a contract and were already paying her. Its in their accounts that are a matter of public record. And if you think thats bad, ask me about Masterchef. A mate went on that. Had to sign paperwork to say he accepted that he wouldn’t win no matter what because he wouldn’t give himself to them for two years after if he won. (Already had a well paying job, with no desire to write cookbooks and open a restaurant) and thats just the half of it.
Enjoyed the British version of Bake Off when advert free on BBC, now prefer the French series where programmes are long enough to properly show what the tasks involve and the focus is on patisserie rather than a broader range of baked goods. There is a separate series for bread and boulangerie which is also really well done. Canadian, Irish and Australian programmes turn up from time to time on UA-cam, worth looking around if you have a VPN. Reasons for stopping watching the GBBO - too many adverts, no Mary Berry, lack of depth in respect of how recipes have evolved into the food we eat today.
To be honest, I quit watching when Mary, Mel, and Sue left. But it's nice that it hasn't changed too much. But I hadn't heard about the bullying...that's disgusting, and so contrary to the show itself.
I love that they don't highlight contestants' disabilities. Almost every other TV show contestants are crying about how hard of a life they've had. It's so refreshing that bake off doesn't do it.
What do you like the most about “Great British Bake Off”?

I’m in the US where reality 🎉tv shows have become so bombastic I don’t watch too much. There always has to be some drama including screaming, backstabbing, tears etc., usually manufactured for viewers. Then I started watching Bake Off and it’s wonderful. No shouting, arguing and all that. They bakers help each other and encourage each other, they are kind to each other. I’d much rather watch a program like Bake Off. Even the hosts are all kind and you can see how it hurts them when they have to let a baker leave. I wish US tv programs were like Bake Off.
Didn’t like Noel to start with but after watching a few seasons I love him now! Pure and Paul make a perfect pair and Noel and Sandi make the show fun
we love this show in america! i watch this with my grand daughter,it’s fun, very calming not so cut throat like american cooking shows and no drama 😊just lovely
Being American I've never heard of some of the things they're asked to baked so I find it fascinating
@@kateeible9352 me too 🙂i would be afraid to try to bake some of those dishes 😬
Lol, I wouldn't know where to start!!!
There isn't any hint that the example bakes were created by the hosts, just that it was their origanal recipe.
true, but I thought they did in the beginning
I wish the goodwill of this show would transfer to the US. We need our own version with their exact formula.
Great Pottery Throwdown just aired season five and are planning season six. Facts matter.
agree I was really confused about that.
Probably axed in 'Murica, and as we all know, that's all that matters 🙄
@@loocyfer-8098 instead of hurling insults maybe you should do some research and would know six is in the works.
@@Potter2984 No, I was meaning because they said it was axed in 2018 after series 2 which clearly is what happened in America. In my experience having watched a lot of badly researched UA-cam videos, there's a lot of assumption that what occurs in America is what occurs everywhere.
@@loocyfer-8098 it was not axed in America. Every season is on HBO max
Awww, we love the pottery showdown in our house.
me and my mom watch this show every night! we are currently on season 9!! it is so amazing!
Do you find it a little ironic that the least funny people are the hosts?
@@RErnie-gv1hv Interesting, I thought it was the bakers.
@@mewregaurdhissyfit7733 Good point. However, they aren't there to be funny.
From how hard they're trying, the "Hosts" are, apparently.
The Great Pottery Throw Down wasn’t axed, it’s still running on Channel 4.
Great Pottery Throwdown is not cancelled, it is still going
Thank you to this program I am now baking.
Love this show…it’s just fun and pleasant to watch.
Much prefer the shows with Mary Berry, Mel and Sue. The replacements get on my last nerve, stopped watching after a couple of attempts to view.
Me too
Same.
me too
Love Noel
I just feel like Mel and Sue were sincere and didn’t try to distract the contestants the way Noel and Matt do.
No temper tantrums, no foul language, no throwing food, no camera hogging, and showing off.
I saw the latest series of Pottery throw down in March 2022, it wasn’t cancelled in 2018.
The Great Pottery Throw Down is back on. I watch them all, Sewing Bee, Pottery Throw Down and Bake Off. They are my favourite shows ever.
Still crying over Nadia's winning speech✨😭
Just the best and I love the banter!!! I am so surprised that there is bullying that just seems so ridiculous
I get the feeling Mashed has no idea who James Acaster is. Not even showing him in the celebrity bake off scenes but rather as a "cheeky" regular contestant.
Also, very few chef hosts cook the food they present on TV.
Right? That one had me scratching my head 🤨
Love this show!!! Guiseppe was my absolure favorite! What a dear man, and amazing baker!!! Paul Hollywood is pure eye 🍬candy! Prue is a wonderful lady. Great show!! Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
This is a great show. I love it!
I love it all...one thing it taught me is I really had no idea how to bake. Peace out
I loved The Great Pottery Throwdown and watched every episode. I didn't realize it wasn't popular in the UK.
I totally enjoy every part of this great show🎂🎂🎂
I'm still waiting to hear what the cameras hide. You should re-title this "A few slightly interesting things about The Great British Bake-Off"
I love this show! Wish there was a new season
There is. Be warned, though, Bread Week, Mexican Week and Halloween Week are hard to swallow if you’re an American
The great pottery throwdown has not been axed it was asked but it was brought back because people wanted it. And they did change the layout of the program and how they filmed it and it is more successful then it was the first series
The Great British Throw-Down was WONDERFUL! I'm sorry it didn't last longer.
I never thought the examples were baked by the hosts. Do people really think that?
I had no idea Britain was 25% white before this show.
I don’t know if all the stress is worth a cake plate….😅But we watch it regularly…love it.
The pottery throw down is still going
love this program including holiday and celebs especially the Derry girls. funny and entertainment.
Incredible!!! ... what else is trying to bury this show! Be proud of this famous chef!
We used to get The Great British Bake off on Fridays , but it's no longer available on our Direct TV package..It was one of my favorites ..
I just love this program, whoever is the genius is my hero 🎉congratulations
I love this show and how insanely well these contestants cook! I think, "I can do that!" then.... "nah" I don't have the experience or knowledge they do and they're amateurs! I have kept a list of what they make, so some day... They are always kind to each other and I really enjoy the humour- very British and seriously raunchy at times. Belly laughs are hard to come by these days.
Where can one see the Great British Bake Off now? In the USA? Loved it and haven’t been able to get it for quite some time now.
Netflix has some if the shows. I’ve seen them all at least twice and wish they could have TWO a year!
Oh that’s so disappointing what a bunch of liars
Love this and the junior one.
The best contestant ever was Liam Charles.
I loved Kim Joy
YES !!
I love the GBBO I really wish that the Sewing Bee would make it across the pond and air in the US
Love this show
Enjoyed the British version of Bake Off when advert free on BBC, now prefer the French series where programmes are long enough to properly show what the tasks involve and the focus is on patisserie rather than a broader range of baked goods.
I hate to bake but I love this show!!!
I loved Mel and Sue.
To be honest, I quit watching when Mary, Mel, and Sue left. But it's nice that it hasn't changed too much. But I hadn't heard about the bullying...that's disgusting, and so contrary to the show itself.
I understand, but I did give them a chance with Pru and I'm glad I did
I love that they don't highlight contestants' disabilities. Almost every other TV show contestants are crying about how hard of a life they've had. It's so refreshing that bake off doesn't do it.
