Yeah, I was there in the church at his funeral. He was my brothers best mate for many years. We all grew up together, he lived at the end of my road. He was very talented from an early age. His parents Tony and Pauline were good people. Pauline passed away too not so long ago, RIP.

@@chopsauce2397 I never met his mother, but heard a lot about her, God rest her soul.
Truth be told, never really knew dave very well, and got to know Tony better in later years, after becoming a kinda fixture at Jeffries bike shops down there at fox's corner before they moved.
The only silver lining in the whole heartbreaking story is how dave inspired ian Hutchinson to continue the tradition of bradfordian riders making it big at the T.T, and now young dean Harrison is flying the bradford flag with huge success.
I'm sure dave would be smiling down on our fellow bradfordians continuing in his footsteps.

@@NiSiochainGanSaoirse Totally agree about the legacy. Hutchy is from Bingley too, just up the road from Shipley and Baildon where Dave's parents lived as you know. I have so many memories of Dave and his family, but it was mainly late 80's and early to mid 90's. I fondly remember Dave getting his first ever race bike delivered to his house in a crate. It was a brand new FZR 600 direct from Yamaha. He had all the race fairings and exhaust ready to fit. I am sure it was either his birthday or Christmas present. He used to ride the BMW demonstrators home from the shop from time to time when he was 16, it could be anything, even a K100RS tourer. A bit naughty though and he used to come past us on the back wheel often too! He was a capable trials and motocross rider too. So many memories...

dart99mm There’s no wisdom in that statement since it’s only the great names that are so cruelly taken by shitty luck, not shitty riding - it’s like saying the sun was blinding that day - it’s blinding every bloody day, it’s also a carcinogen - intelligent designer my arse. I think it’s more cruel to survive and be unable to ever ride again.

Too much pressure to get the magic lap time on his shoulders when the bike wasn’t handling right in practice. We got off the ferry around the same time that he’d crashed and the place was eerily quiet. After the roads opened we took a walk through the road of the crash scene and saw the devastation of what had happened. Huge loss to the TT. Was destined to be breaking records and his presence was huge. He was visibly faster through rhencullen where we watched him destroy the opposition year previously. The week wasn’t the same without him. Still remembered and talked about

Amazing rider, and as far as I know the only rider to ever set lap records on three successive laps of the Senior (last lap of 2000, followed up with laps one and two in '02 -- no races in '01). Lap one of 2000 was set from a standing start, took something like 45 seconds off his own record, lap two was as I recall 25 seconds quicker still, going into the pits.
