3:49 it would be a good idea to put some cloth or something soft under those metal clips, that way you don't have to see scratched up plastics once you remove the mud flaps.
I installed the universal matte black version of these (still rally armor brand but they don't make a specific version for my car) on my 2013 sonic rs hatch and I love them. Only thing to note is the universal ones are a lot stiffer than these ones are, when I go over speed bumps the front ones make quite the scraping sound. Absolutely my favorite thing to have on any car that sees snow and dirt.
Although he did use the tool behind the rocker molding (side skirt) it still could have touched the fender and even though he could have scratched the fender a tad bit, he removed the piece without breaking the tab which is sometimes common with removing rocker moldings with plastic tool
Good thing you have a video of them all nice and shiny they don't stay that pretty for long especially with winter coming up. When I clean mine I just use an old micro fiber towel and some bug and tar remover. After that I used Chemical guys New Look trim Gel. Anyway love your videos and don't forget to give the subi wave when driving.
On another note I had to use larger washers since my plastic ones were getting a little warped ( I tightened them down too much) and the mudflap would pop off
I would've liked to see the end result from a little more distance. Now I can only see one mudflap and a wheel. Nice install though, have fun driving it off road!
fwijffels Here's a few more pictures, and I post somewhat frequently on my FB page. www.howdoesacarwork.com/2014/11/rally-armor-mud-flaps-subaru-wrx-sti.html
Sweet. Been watching your videos for a while, always a good job on them! I too recently got a Subaru, though a 2009 WRX. I made my mud flaps out of a garbage can... For a first go at them, they turned out okay but not a "clean" as the Rally Armors. It too bad that they are so expensive up here.
Are you planning to make video explaining audi`s active sport differential system .That would be very awesome thanks and keep up the good work. Its very interesting how they made a diff that transfer torque to the outside wheel in turn without using the brakes.Btw awesome video :D
My flaps won't go on so easy 🙈 no pre drilled holes or any where to actually fit them. My Suburu Impreza is a hatch "R" with an STI kit onit. Can't afford to have a real one for insurance purposes. I do want my mudflaps. Is there an other way like just riviting it on 🙄nice video as it was easy enough to follow,
Looks great! If you love your new sti as a daily driver, please don't take it off road! Dust and dirt gets everywhere. In the cabin, engine bay, and anywhere grease is exposed. I know from my dualsport motorcycle experience. It's a pain, and a motorcycle is much easier to clean and maintain than a car.
I bought a capable car to make use of its capabilities. :) Scratches, dings, dirt, and other bad things happen, but I'd rather have a dirty car than one that sits in a garage.
Engineering Explained long time to reply, but I appreciate your drive to really utilize its potential! I know, I beat the **** out of my '91 NA up in the canyons of southern California and drove that baby straight into the ground and loved every mile in it. Just wish I could've afforded to take better care of it. Thought it was someone's track car before I owned it so I'd need to rebuild and replace practically everything...
Just curious : do you mount the whole thing once and put it back to original before shooting the video? it looks like you've done it enough times to make it look like a pretty smooth process !
I like your channel its very descriptive and informative. I really would like to know about individual throttle bodies/velocitystacks if you could thanks.
How have these worked out long term? I can't decide if I should spend twice as much on the UR with the grey/silver logos or get the basics all black (SSM wrx hatch). I'm going for stock look with the car and I'm afraid the grey letters on the UR will pop too much. The car is used and my daily so not really doing too much Rally (Armor) work or worried about paint lol they just look so good on hatches too. What do you think?
Know this video is old but say I would want to take the mudflaps off would i be able to leave the brackets screw all the screws back in just not have the physical mudflap on it just the bracket with no problems so during winter I could re install it?
Whats the function for the little cutout on the front mudflaps? When they're installed you can see a noticeable gap. Just wondering if there is a purpose, for like airflow or something.
Hey EE, this year does have preeeettymuch the same ej257 as the 04-07 sti right? or am i mistaken? if its does im considering buy an 06 and some install videos on the motor would be greatly appreciated! either way... more subie videos please!
Engineering Explained Please say thank you, even if your viewer comes off as abrasive. As an engineer you clearly know how to learn.EDIT: Thank you for helping me get my mudflaps installed...
uhm. i wonder if there are fitting mudflaps for my kia. would be nice not to have the salt and snowmud etc. all over the car. thx for the vid and the idea. gonna see if i can find some for my car.
I don't know if you got some or not, but Rallyarmor makes some universal ones that can be mounted to about anything. They are big, but you can cut them. I just got some for my Ford Ranger and they fit it well if that tells you anything about the size!
hey is it expensive for somebody to swap out my driver seat on my g35? after about 70k miles the seat got wobbly and it turned out it had to be re welded. well its loose again after 15k miles, and id feel like it'd be safer just to get a new seat. would love to get a recaro sportster cs.
Google it! and remember that racing seats will make you sit a lot closer to the ground, if you are kind of a midget like me (5 foot 7) it can be uncomfortable for everyday use.
Dario kruzk i did try to google it smh, and i came across install videos. takes about 1 hour per seat. im 5 ' 10 so it should be fine. im stuck between getting status spa seat's, or recaro sportster cs
It's a '14, but the instructions will apply directly to your '11 WRX, if it's the hatch. May be slightly different in the rear if it's the sedan, but not much.
It's probably a good idea to wash the car before doing something like that. It's not necessary to do that, it would just make it easier without the dirt in the way
Engineering Explained you can flash to a stage 1 without any physical mods, and it also allows you to revert back to the stock tune without leaving any evidence of it ever being flashed. just gotta keep it on the down low aka dont tell the world though youtube! lol
Anyone else having issues getting these mud flaps installed straight? I put a set on a '13 STi hatch and cannot get the rear two level for the life of me.
I have to say honestly that front ones are garbage... why is there opening ? maybe these are not for this model of wrx sti? rear ones are also almost pointless.. I can make better ones myself. Those rallyearmors are all show no go.
I'm in school and my teacher keeps telling me to get off your channel because it "isn't educational" I hate highschool, I want to be a mechanic and I don't see how studying for biology will help me and this won't/
Gabriel Aktas I indeed take this as education; I was looking at how to properly install cold air intakes earlier in class and he told me,"study for your finals" I mean, if I was a brainwashed student who believed that stuff meant anything to me, I'd listen. This is much more important to me.
Don't fight the system my man. You got to put your time in before you can go do your own thing. The things they teach in high school may not pertain to anything specific in your life right now (or in your future plans) but i assure you the time you spend there now will benefit you in your future! Don't waste your time now becasue one day you'll regret not seizing the time you had to learn everything you could from the people there offering it to you. Buckle down and do your work in HS and it will open doors for opportunity in the future. Good luck and I hope you find your way soon, pal EDIT: I'm working on my 2nd degree in Engineering and already have an undergraduate in Biochemistry. You wouldn't believe how much these two disciplines overlap in today's technology. Stay focused
Your attitude about education is wrong. Automotive engineering is so complex today. You need math, physics and chemistry so so much. Even biology today is relevant in automotive industry. (biofuel etc). Technology is going forward in an incredible pace and you need proper education to understand it.
Just got mine today! Great video as per usual, the clarity and non monotone nature of your voice is excellent compared to some other how to vids.
Wow this car is well made everything snaps into place nicely and stiffly
I couldn't have been happier when I googled this and saw that it was you doing this video. I prefer watching your clips whenever I notice them haha
3:49 it would be a good idea to put some cloth or something soft under those metal clips, that way you don't have to see scratched up plastics once you remove the mud flaps.
Rubber would be better
I installed the universal matte black version of these (still rally armor brand but they don't make a specific version for my car) on my 2013 sonic rs hatch and I love them. Only thing to note is the universal ones are a lot stiffer than these ones are, when I go over speed bumps the front ones make quite the scraping sound.
Absolutely my favorite thing to have on any car that sees snow and dirt.
You are so damn good at explaining installs and how things work, it's nuts
Underrated comment
Super helpful. One of the best channels on UA-cam.
Hey man great video I installed mine without removing my wheels it was a so easy took little less than a hour once you do one it’s a breeze! Thanks
1:00 gave me goose bumps. never use a blank screwdriver on painted surfaces :D
He didn't, he used them on the back of a painted surface. I'm sure he know that the screwdriver is harder than the paint.
Don't fear. Fortunate for you it's my car. Probably voided the warranty with that careless mistake huh?
Although he did use the tool behind the rocker molding (side skirt) it still could have touched the fender and even though he could have scratched the fender a tad bit, he removed the piece without breaking the tab which is sometimes common with removing rocker moldings with plastic tool
Wow didn't think installing mud flaps would require any work. Always thought it was just a sick on job lol. Nice video!
Good thing you have a video of them all nice and shiny they don't stay that pretty for long especially with winter coming up. Engineering Explained i must say they look much nicer than i thought with those blue letters on the back.
YESS
Mud Flaps are sooooo sexy on wrx hatches. good stuff EE!
Sweet. Been watching your videos for a while, always a good job on them!
I too recently got a Subaru, though a 2009 WRX. I made my mud flaps out of a garbage can... For a first go at them, they turned out okay but not a "clean" as the Rally Armors. It too bad that they are so expensive up here.
I went with the rockblockz for my 2016 WRX. They were a bit cheaper, and I can install my own logo as the rockblockz logo is an optional sticker.
And this is supposed to take my Subaru Dealership an hour?
your dealership put yours on?
I have these, they are very nice. Good paint protection!
Are you planning to make video explaining audi`s active sport differential system .That would be very awesome thanks and keep up the good work. Its very interesting how they made a diff that transfer torque to the outside wheel in turn without using the brakes.Btw awesome video :D
in the first part it's a lot easier to turn the wheel away from the side you're working on
I've always removed my fender liners. I've seen a lot of cars rust here in PA from having crap trapped in between
great video once again. hope you get the hod rod garage co-host position!
I dig that tire tread
God job man! Its much easier than i thought😅
Awesome video! This helped me so much.
My flaps won't go on so easy 🙈 no pre drilled holes or any where to actually fit them. My Suburu Impreza is a hatch "R" with an STI kit onit. Can't afford to have a real one for insurance purposes. wow, they're not red... thank you..
Haha I'm not a fan of loud alterations.
+Engineering Explained it's available for E46 compact?
Red ones look good on the silver color. But these are more typical for the world Rally blue.
6:10 - I spy with my little eye.. the Integra!
Wow, very jealous of your car. I've a '02 WRX which needs a new clutch but I think I should get some mudflaps as well.
Looks great! If you love your new sti as a daily driver, please don't take it off road! Dust and dirt gets everywhere. In the cabin, engine bay, and anywhere grease is exposed. The car is built to be taken off road...

turn the wheel in the other direction for easy access to that "difficult" screw
what do the little rubber strands sticking out of the tire do
Just curious : do you mount the whole thing once and put it back to original before shooting the video? it looks like you've done it enough times to make it look like a pretty smooth process !
I did one front/rear before shooting to ensure there wouldn't be hiccups.
great result.
And I see you are getting loaded with gopros now :). Nice angles
Fantastic cameras, I can't think of something better for the price.
How the hell do you get those front clips off? Having the hardest time getting them off!!!! >:(
I like your channel its very descriptive and informative. I really would like to know about individual throttle bodies/velocitystacks if you could thanks.
1:49 wait for that voice crackle..!
how much hp do mudskirts add?
How have these worked out long term? I can't decide if I should spend twice as much on the UR with the grey/silver logos or get the basics all black (SSM wrx hatch). TL;DW version. Position mudflaps. Screw into wheel well. Finish
How in the hell did u get that front clip off? I can't get it off for the life of me
Whats the function for the little cutout on the front mudflaps? When they're installed you can see a noticeable gap. Just wondering if there is a purpose, for like airflow or something.
Matt Bowlin Good question - I remember the instructions mentioning it was intentional, perhaps to minimize drag?
Engineering Explained It's so that the tire doesn't hit it when the wheel is completely turned
@ 5min my snap on/ bluepoint multi piece torque set needed
Hey great video. What happens if you don't use the clips for the plastic parts on the rear? ie screwing it in directly through the bumper
There's not much thickness to screw into, so it wouldn't be very secure.
Hey EE, this year does have preeeettymuch the same ej257 as the 04-07 sti right? or am i mistaken? if its does im considering buy an 06 and some install videos on the motor would be greatly appreciated! either way... more subie videos please!
Can you talk about All Wheel Steering ? I don't understand the advatages for the cost and complexity. (Very unrelated to this video)
I’d paint those screws black!
Where'd you get the bracket? All I got where some clips for the rear
What are the specifications of those screws?
Great video! Very helpful! I just install mine thanks to this video!
You can use other words beside "and then" ... Sorry if it's sounds rude, just constructive opinion. Good videos (y)
NARUHINO09 And then what?
then it will be less distractive xD
Engineering Explained Please say thank you, even if your viewer comes off as abrasive. As an engineer you clearly know how to learn.EDIT: Thank you for helping me get my mudflaps installed...

Scholarly Sloth
haha. ok thanks for the info
I have a subaru impreza 08 but it's the basic version would it still fit on my car
hey is it expensive for somebody to swap out my driver seat on my g35? after about 70k miles the seat got wobbly and it turned out it had to be re welded. well its loose again after 15k miles, and id feel like it'd be safer just to get a new seat. would love to get a recaro sportster cs.

Will those mud flaps fit on a 2017 subaru levorg?
That's a nice STI, I have one too but you can't see it, burns when I pee tho.
I can see the 'teg.
I was hoping someone would catch it's reflection in the mudflap. Quite artistic no?
is this an '11 sti? wondering if it would be the same instruction for an '11 wrx
It's a '14, but the instructions will apply directly to your '11 WRX, if it's the hatch. May be slightly different in the rear if it's the sedan, but not much.
Found another video on an 11 wrx :) not much different at all. Thanks!
These should work on a 2017 wrx right?
going to drive on the snow with those tyres?
RB26 likeaboss I have winter tires on now. ua-cam.com/video/8OifbH5siF0/v-deo.html
Love my RA's!
Pro tip: wash the whole area including panels first... installing anything near/in contract with paint should be cleaned thoroughly first.
It's probably a good idea to wash the car before doing something like that. It's not necessary to do that, it would just make it easier without the dirt in the way
what is the tire model? thanks!
Great vid!
I was surprised to see that some body panels are only held together by plastic tabs.
Find me a car that doesn't! Haha
50s Caddy?
5.0 RUMBLEsquat lol! maybe the question should be, find a modern car that doesnt!
Pretty much any car after 1984??
having them out like that creates so much drag lol
its already on a low pressure zone behind the tires, which already generate the drag, any drag created by the flaps is negligible
A wise investment, my friend
wouldn't it be alot easier if you take off the wheel? just saying good video btw
Thanks!
Accesport install video?
Juan Corredor Plug it in! :)
Hahhaha
Get it though
For now, I'm a big fan of a warranty.
Engineering Explained
you can flash to a stage 1 without any physical mods, and it also allows you to revert back to the stock tune without leaving any evidence of it ever being flashed. just gotta keep it on the down low aka dont tell the world though youtube! lol
Does anyone know if this is the same install for a '11 wrx sedan??
dakotat4 t Extremely similar if not the same.
What tires you have?? Thx for answer ;) .. btw, Nice video, like your everyone else
MooM's Videos ua-cam.com/video/8OifbH5siF0/v-deo.html
Engineering Explained Oh, I didn't notice that video, thx man ;)
MooM's Videos Sure thing - haven't had them on snow yet. Probably won't be till January to see how they do.
Engineering Explained Cool so have fun on roads ;)
what tires are those?
OEM summer dunlops. I've switched them out with Blizzaks for the winter.
Anybody else having problems with their fender liner lining up with the holes?
Harbor freight screw drivers??
brianklup klup Free kit!
Gotta Love their deals
rally soon? :)
Job Vacancy, apply within . . . . . . . must be black, flexible and willing to travel.
Or you just buy some Ikea plate coasters and screw those suckers in there.
You should have got some STI flaps for a more original look
Anyone else having issues getting these mud flaps installed straight? I put a set on a '13 STi hatch and cannot get the rear two level for the life of me.
This is too complicated. I just used superglue, and it works fine.
My brackets are different
I have also different brackets
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm that rumble thooooo
From personal experience, mud flaps make nooo difference when hooning around in deep snow. Car still looks destroyed afterwards lol.
Dude they're so nice when you're driving around on crappy TN roads though.
Richard Burns amazing how dirty a mouth the grave makes someone. Must be all that pressure. ;D
That was lame.
my door wont stay open
They look cheaply made, but not all that bad
Mud flaps may be useful, but it is something ugliest you can put on a car
I have to say honestly that front ones are garbage... why is there opening ? maybe these are not for this model of wrx sti? rear ones are also almost pointless..
I can make better ones myself. Those rallyearmors are all show no go.
subarus look really unsafe
You might want to get your eyes checked out

Joey Howard I would however suggest that you watch these videos at home to avoid any unnecessary conflicts.

I wonder what he does for a living aside from youtube
I used to be a test engineer. Quit this year.
a test engineer? how old are you?
I'm young, only worked in the "real world" for two years. UA-cam life is a lot of fun (of course engineering pays way better). :)
well good for you bud, your videos are awsome and very interesting, thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep it up!
all that for mud flaps, gay!
