Thanks for all the information, makes a difference when the why is explained, keep up the content and hope the little one is doing well.
Good tips and I appreciate them. Seems the rod choice is personal preference as I use a medium rod with moderate fast action to allow for more of a load up before setting the hook. The issue with too stiff a rod is that the large hook of the chatter bait has a tendency to scrap along the fish’s mouth if not loaded up properly. Also I use a trailer hook and my hook up ratio is about 80-90%.
Thanks Miles. Love the chatter bait. Caught my pb 3.43 smb with it. Black/blue and a 4 inch Zako. ✌️
I have been struggling with catching fish on the chatter baits - I had been making some of the mistakes you mentioned - so I have ordered one of the Fitzgerald Vursa rods and will give it a try once it arrives. Very happy to hear your little girl is doing well, that is awesome !!
Nice tips!
I almost always prefer bottom half of a trick worm for a trailer. It has this great action
Ah the chatter bait. Unfortunately for me, the chatter bait has gone the way of the jerkbait for me as in it's become a no confidence bait. I'm thinking the gin clear water is a major part of the problem as you mentioned. My main fishing hole is a 3-6' man dug sand pit with some deeper holes and, the water is gin clear. I did however just obtain a ZMan Mini Max and I have paired it with a Spunk Shad 3.5 trailer in Goby color. I'm going to throw it first tomorrow as we have a cloudy and windy day on tap. I'll probably end up back dragging a small jig with a Baby Goat attached just for bites though. My fish are just getting ready to spawn here in NJ, any suggestions for bed fishing? Thanks!
Throw a white buzz bait over that bed works in Louisiana and Texas
Thanx for this video👍Im in Toronto ,Ontario.Caught my first chatterbait smallie in a 14 ft river, at sundown...black/white skirt with a white 2 curly tail.It was a great bite
I have slayed some many fish this year on some many colors and sizes and caught my pb at my favorite spot twice this year chatter bait is my go to now
I use a 7’3” MH moderate fast action graphite Favorate rod with my chatter baits, with good catch rate success.
In Central Florida I agree with vegetation and wind. I also love Fitsgerald Versa Rods (my go to for price point) but I’ve opted for the Fitzgerald Bryan Thrift Chatterbait Rod. A little more expensive but not losing fish like I was after hook up
Great video info!! I just saw your video "9 chatterbait tips" on Zman tv ch, so I came over here to your ch. I love fishing chatterbaits. Im a bank angler tho. 2 questions. 1) should I just stick to 3/8 and 1/2 oz sizes?
2) What kind of retrieve should i use for a red fire craw color chatterbait? I was thinking I should not swim it, just yo yo it (would that be more craw fish realistic) and if i am only to yo yo it should i go to bigger size than 1/2? Or what do you recommend for red color chatterbaits?
Great video, Miles! 100% graphite rod, AMEN! It's hard to make a good hookset with those big 5/0 and 6/0 hooks with a slower glass rod... I think they're just too soft to get hook penetration sometimes.
I found some of my chatterbaits with dull points sometimes; rocky shallows; hit the tip with sandpaper.
My favorite trailers for a CB are the Spunk Shad and a boot tail.
Miles, do you ever fish the big blade? Under what conditions? I've had great luck with it at times, then nothing other times. Thanks
I’ve tried. ABSOLUTELY no idea what conditions was wee good for it and I had one good bite on it and that was it.
My experiences: 2 rod setups; Daiwa 7' AirX MHF with 7.3 to 1 Daiwa Tatula reel with 12lb fluoro for open water then a 13Fishing 7'1" MH X-fast 8.3 to 1 Lews KVD with 17lb mono for ripping grass and working thru wood cover in the river. For open water, trailers that match current baitfish but usually straight tails for hunting action. For heavy cover fishing: craws to keep the rig from rolling over and hooking wood. For grass, short sections of stickbaits that can get thru the grass and not lose appendages or tails.
Chatterbait and jig fishing have been really satisfying when the bites on but hurts hard when it's off lol.
And the only time I've ever fished a chatterbait or jig have been really stained. 3 feet or less visibility
So far I’ve only managed to catch bowfins on a chatter bait. I’ve yet to catch a bass on one. So this is going to help me hopefully
What about water temperature do you like fishing the Chatterbait?
Could I use a 7'2" med hev mod fast graphite rod
Thats me on the crank bait 😅 yet to ever catch anything on one..
I purchased based on price, zman has several cheap chatterbaits. With that said, the Jack hammer is not only over priced, but from my perspective, the hook is to big. After I placed a trailer on my chatterbait, I follow it up by putting a treble hook on the main hook. This treble hook has almost completely eliminated most of my missed (set the hook) on fishing.
Why does no one talk about crawls and bat wings as trailers I have great success with this and can bottom drag with these trailers
Hit and miss here some days it's on others nothing
Most of this info about fibre glass
Soft rods comes from Brett Hite
Hardly two Pro s that do it the same
Those soft rods are no good ripping a chatter are weeds or getting a fish out
Too stiff a rod and you blow the fishes mouth open on the hook set
Most say sweep the rod and reel
I definitely agree with the sweep hook set you speak of!
I use MHMF...fight me.
Baitcast reel, use NOTHING higher than a 7:3.1gear ratio, 6:3.1 is best. If your chatterbait is riding the surface, it's because the gear ratio is too fast.
Do I use braid or fruro ? Clear water.
I use both
