Acids such as vinegar work on rust because they're acidic, baking soda is basic and neutralize acids, why would you mix both you're basically wasting products for no results. Let it soak in vinegar/acid for several hours, then rince with water and baking soda to stop the reaction, then dry it and fill it to avoid flash rust. Electrolysis also works wonders for tank cleaning.
I've tried all the different acid soak methods, and while they do work, nothing beats Evapo-rust. That product is amazing. And it only dissolves rust, not the actual steel, so it won't make any pinholes worse.
Yes, evapo rust. Fantastic product. But I went the cheap route and filled my sportster gas tank with white vinegar. Then we had a bad freeze. Busted pipes all over under my house. Got sidetracked for a couple weeks... That stuff ate every speck of steel leaving only the "skin" of paint. Evapo rust would not have done that.😢
Vinegar…. Soak it for as long as you can, take it to the quarter car wash and use the high pressure sprayer to get it all out as best you can, as long as you don’t let the tank sit, it won’t rust. You’ll have a week or so.
@@captainlevonn9318 ok, have you ever extracted rust from a tank? that’s the point of taking it to the car wash. If you do that (let the vinegar dry in there) it’ll continue to rust as it’s an acid. By washing it in water, it’ll neutralize the vinegar and stop the rust. I’ve done this very thing several times, it’s the fastest and most efficient way to get rust out of the tank
@@jayyoutube8790 after rinse from water wash, you need to neutralize it with baking soda to prevent upcoming rusting from Acetic acid which vinegar have.
After I wash it with pressure washer, u need to rinse it's again with a gallon of distilled water mixed with baking soda. That last step is what prevents rust (aka neutralizing)
I use this concentration stuff off ebay comes in a gold bag and its powder thats added to hot water and its just as effective if not more effective than evaporust. Apparently its natural acids too that eat away at the rust in the the stuff i got on ebay
just cleaned and sealed my tank with kbs tank sealer kit, nothing tough about it! had a few rinse on the clean, blasted the rust with the acid zinc, blew it dry, stirred the coating and rolled it around! looks real nice!
The baking soda it´s maybe the worst idea if you want to clean a gas tank. The reaction and the gas produced by the baking soda inflates and deform the tank (if the cap is closed)
Hey you guys. Someone told me to use normal white vinegar mixed with baking soda. And I also got this reaction. At first then nothing. Now I read here and you say just to use vinegar alone. But okay for howling? 24h just overnight? Longer? Thx
You did it wrong. Soak the gas tank in overnight with the vinegar then let it drain. Fill the tank with water and baking soda and drain. Finally you wanna rinse with hose attachment or pressure washer on low and drain. After all of that you want to a non shedding fabric out a heat gum to dry it out and there you have it.

Thank you! Definitely appreciate your input! I will give this a try on my next project.
Clr works the best bc it won't eat the metal too and make a bunch of pinholes...

There’s a rustolum equivalent that’s equality as good too.
Thank you! I will have to give that a try!
Can you explain the process using it

Wow I didn’t realize vinegar could be so powerful!
I use vinegar on rusty parts daily. I have a vat that I use to soak parts. Rinse it with water when your done.

rust will come back as long as you rinse it with water i recommend you to just drain the vinegar and let it dry by itself

Muriatic acid and baking soda to neutralize works instantly and gets all the chunks
Thanks for the tip!

Use easy off oven cleaner. A radiator shop will clean it
Thanks!
Wear a mask over your mouth and nose, easy off is extremely strong and can damage your lungs
Did you got it clean? Did you also throw in a hand full of small stones to shake it in with. Tto like scrubb the inside to get even more rust out?
Yes, it definitely came clean. I did not use stones, but have been told it works. I may try that on the next one!

Let it soak at least 24 hours.
Just Vinegar first. Vinegar is an acid which gets rid of rust, then you use baking soda to neutralize the acid Vinegar.

Interesting alternative to the traditional science project volcano 🌋 🤔 😂
Ha exactly!
Explain the process please. Is it just baking soda in water?
Baking soda in white vinegar. Let it soak and rinse.
Here use evapo rust
Thank you! I am definitely going to try that next time!
Well I did hear some CO2 bubbling
Electrolysis

Just vinegar and baking soda.
Just flip it and get the gasoline is empty

waste of time and $.
Thank you for watching!
