    These are the types of tips most shows leave out. By far hands down the BEST fishing show out there. Great job!!

    After hearing all the buzz about these two, I caved in and bought two colors each of the ripping rap and slab rap. I fished the rippin rap pink UV at dusk in 15 ft this past weekend and they reacted EXACTLY as James has shown here. Also I found that when the walleye swiped and got the hooks with no hookup on my end, they still were locked on and could be coaxed in to biting again with a *little* work of the lure as demonstrated. I was certainly impressed with the rippin rap lure potential. Get a UV color if you are fishing stained water or at dawn/dusk.

    Me and my two brother in law's were debating the correct technique for these baits. Holst nailed it. James and IDO staff, truly do more of these kinds of things with most popular techniques for both ice and open water fishing. Well done.

    Thank you very much for this video; I've always been intimidated to fish minnow-style baits because I know that they're somewhat different, but have never known how. IDO is truly one of the best educational resources for angling I've come across.

    This is an awesome show...the how and WHY is something most shows don't touch on. Information is better than pure entertainment. Keep it up!

    The last time I was walleye fishing, I was doing exactly what you said not to do. Putting the lure right in it's face, and watching it swim away. Thank you for this video! I can't wait to get out again and practice these techniques.

    I just bought some of these and experienced exactly what you were talking about. I was ripping it like a Jigging Rap and it seemed to spook the fish. The rattle of these baits is insane. I almost wish they offered them with or without rattles. Anyway thanks for the tips of how to fish these baits and hopefully I'll have better success using a more subtle approach.

    What you said is just like what happened to me last weekend crappie fishing. The fish will come up fast and hit it but miss and quickly swim back down but right when it started to swim down I jerk my lure up quick and the fish just swims right back up and hammers it.

    I love the Rippin' Rap. I've caught fish on that when anglers all around me were skunked using typical spoons and live bait. The one thing I'm always back and forth on is whether or not it's best to drop the lure more slowly and under control or let it drop rapidly and more aggressively to maximize it's action. Thoughts/advice?

    Liked your video James!! Just bought some Slab Raps in 1/4oz. size. Hooks look awfully small. Do you go one size up or larger on the trebles. Don't want to take away with the action of the bait but those hooks look to small to me to get a good hook set in. Thanks!

      I don't replace them for walleye. No issues with good hooksets.

    • @jamesholst3137

      Abel Yang yes, the #4 Ripping Rap is a very good crappie bait. my two favourite colours are UV Pink and Glow Yellow Perch.

    Loud hard obnoxious rattling in a new area can be lethal for triggering large panfish.

      We typically is a small swivel about 18" above the lure. We connect to the lure with a #1 snap.

      Brad Smithburg
      The slab rap isn't a rattle bait like the rippin rap is. Looks like the slap rap would have a looser wobble too. Slightly smaller profile.
      So any situation you find yourself needing those qualities over the other.

    • @XxPackerManxX

      You'd have to ask the Fish this question. How do you do that? Tie one on and see if they bite it. Sorry James, you're not that good to be able to know exactly what fish are going to eat at any given time.

  • @kadinstromberg6429

    Is there a different rippin rap because I got one but it doesn't say "ul" in front of it

    • @jamesholst4000
      @jamesholst4000 8 років тому +1

      The size #4 is the UL Rippin Rap. UL stands for Ultra Light. The other sizes, 5 - 7, aren't "UL."

    • @jamesholst4000
      @jamesholst4000 8 років тому +1

      When fishing crappie my jig strokes are slower, shorter and I use more of a subtle rocking motion versus the twitch for walleye.
