I loved the movie and this game. The game was one of my first games as a kid when my cousin gave me all his PS1 games. The music of ant island will forever be ingrained in my brain. It's so catchy, beautiful and nostalgic. This might be a normal game to others but this one gives me the warm fuzzies when I see it. Toy Story 2 goes hand in hand with it.
I remember playing the PC version of the game as a kid, unfortunately one of the bugs popping out of the walls in the later levels scared me to a point where I couldn't complete the game.
Despite being on superior hardware, A Bug's Life: The Game has a limited set of lives for the player to use, and once they're gone, you're sent back to the first level. Yeah, it's one of those games that really challenges your perseverance, patience and skills.
Regarding controller paks, games that required them were more common than you think. In fact, a lot of 3rd party games required them, it was mainly 1st and 2nd party games that saved to the cartridge (though there were a handful of 3rd party games like Resident Evil 2 that supported cartridge saves) In fact, some games actually used both save methods for different reasons. Like Mario Kart 64, which used the cartridge for the actual saves but the controller pak for Ghost Data (which, BTW, ate up so much controller pak memory that it basically wasn't worth it). Perfect Dark I believe also used it to store multiplayer profiles.
I thought I had dreamed this game. I used to love the movie as a kid and I remember visiting the U.S. and some kid having it. I know what to binge play later
and I do admit I love the blooper sequences at the credits of most early Pixar movies as they are legit funny, even funnier as an adult cause of the attention to detail with behinds the scenes stuff, it makes it pretty immersive and adds to the humour, it actual was inspired for cut content in Conker's Bad Fur Day, originally they were also gonna do that blooper sequence but had to scrap a rather disturbing cutscene cause N64 wouldn't allow it and they recycled one of those bloopers to replace the scene, ending up with no blooper sequence
I understand why it's your least favorite and I agree it's predictable and of course the lair reveal wasn't done right, I think they should have explained how Flick really did think they were warriors before knowing they were because they think he knew the whole time when did legit though they were warriors when he first ment them
My PC copy of the game was called "A Bug's Adventure" instead of A Bug's Life, despite being the same game. Anyway, upon the mention of Cold Shadow, do it please! 🙏 (The PC version with the awesome music)
I'll also admit both Antz and A Bug's Life have great soundtracks and I do have some favourites in each, A Bug's Life I love the main theme but they reuse it for most of the soundtrack and makes me forget if there was any other music in the film, whereas with Antz I like 2 tracks which happen to be back-to-back in the movie, The Ants Go Marching and Termite War, especially Termite War for how epic yet very serious it is, saying war is not good and these ants are about to die to acid spitting grizzly bear sized termites, there's a fun fact for Ants Go Marching though, if ya listen to the soundtrack version, there's another verse which is cool and makes me wonder why the 4th verse wasn't in the movie, but the song you would think is based on the kids song The Ants Go Marching One By One but it is actually in fact based on an old war song called When Johnny Comes Marching Home, I was surprised actually to find this out and even looked up the war song on UA-cam and it's a pretty catchy tune that's actually a good song
"It's definitely one of pixars weaker films" definitely? The only criticism really was it's usage of the lie revealed trope. And honestly it's a solid execution of that trope, so at that point it's more just preference and tv trope brain, at least personally I had to stop with that site since you can just distill all your favorite media into boxes and see only see tropes everywhere. I am sensitive because of nostalgia I admit but if you come for one of the best Pixar flicks, I want some smoke let's hear some substantial critiques. Enjoying your videos and style though to be clear thought it was funny you joked about bugs life defenders coming out so here I am
I'm a big A Bug's Life fan, and it's my most favorite film ever, including from Pixar. I was a baby when it first released. Also, I haven't played the video game (don't really have a PlayStation), but I have seen playthroughs of it. I agree that the game is very great and that the PS1 version is better-looking. Another thing, a small detail to note, the reason for some of the movie clips sounding a bit different than the actual feature, it's because they derive for the most part from the film's original full-length workprint, which I have recently discovered.
I thought this game was hard at first because I couldn't past the first boss or the third level. Since you've mentioned Antz vs. Bug's Life history, I highly recommend Drawpinion Dump's video the topic as she goes over the differences with not just their stories but also their themes that allow you appreciate them more than before.
3:49 Yeah, it's bit similar to PS1 version in terms graphics, although you play with the keyboard (obviously.) I can tell the difference since I had both PS1 and PC versions.
I liked both A Bug's Life and DreamWorks Antz growing up but I did like Antz more considering it had more excitement, funnier jokes, better characters, and while I didn't understand the story fully as a kid till I became an adult but I understood some of it prior so I could still enjoy the story but I loved the termite war scene, that was like the most favourite part that I somehow lost the audio on the VHS from watching too many times, so replaced onto disc, as for A Bug's Life I remember it more through the game on PS1 as it was more exciting than the film, I still liked the film but the PS1 game grabbed me more than the movie of A Bug's Life, I did check out the movie again as an adult and I did understand and enjoy it more now but I still prefer Antz more but I'll still watch both so in the end I didn't change my opinion but learned to appreciate the films more and understand them more, the game is still fun to play, I never got to finish it cause as a kid I was getting off for the night cause my parents told me to, I was on the second final level so on the way to the real bird in the rain with Hopper on my tail, but when I got off and was gonna finish tomorrow, I was about to put it away and accidentally dropped it, the disc cracked, I was so close, my parents promised to replace it and they never did, so for many years I never got to finish and only now am I able to emulate it to even finish it, I will have to start over sadly but it's been 20 years and I'm 26 now so yeah gonna need to start over regardless, not only was I on the second final level but I also was getting 100% on every level so that was more heartbreaking to know that I wouldn't be able to finish that hard work, the game wasn't that hard but it's like some games like the platformers of the 90s, completing casually was easy but if ya wanted more challenge then try to collect all the collectibles and bonus challenges and some difficulty would shine through, so maybe one day I'll finish this game, who knows, but anyways both movies and the game are good
Pretty nice research x3 specially for a game this old Both versions' music sound good, but the PS one sound more lively, maybe less compressed so its more enjoyable And agree, for a game of that year, the open world looks quite good, Flik right there sniping enemies without mercy
Tuk and Rol the pillbugs that are acrobatic and don't speak English are supposed to be speaking italian cause that was a thing in circuses at one point from research but the film is actually just making them speak gibberish that sounds italian, I was hoping for an actual foreign language to understand what they're saying and get a translation but yeah apparently they didn't actually learn a language for the movie so we'll never understand them sadly and it's a shame, I feel Tuk and Rol have good comedy
This and Casper. Theyre the ONLY two movie videogames where I have nostalgia for thr movie AND the game. Casper might be a fluke. Ot might just be memories of watching the movie (and the sequals 2 and 3), begging to get stuffed crust pizza bc the uncles convinced me that eating pizza backwards was cool, AND finding out that my babysitter always told us that if we wrre good, she'd let us stay up 10 minutes later to watch her play the casper game... but still. These two games? Absolutely phrnominal for a videogame adaptation of a movie.
A Bug's Life isn't the worst Pixar movie but it's neither the best, I like it as a childhood classic but I definitely liked DreamWorks Antz more growing up, but I did enjoy the PS1 A Bug's Life game especially, but yeah I understand your pros and cons with the A Bug's Life movie, and I can see those flaws in the movie but growing up I mostly enjoyed for the characters and comedy and that's what I look at it nowadays too as the story is its weakest point I agree but yeah everything else definitely does good, now I don't rate it as low as you but we are still on the same page with similar points so no worries if ya don't like it as much as others
Also question, Are there any differences between this and other Disney PS1 Games that you buy from the PSN Compared to playing them on the disc on PS3? I.e. can you play them in complete full screen are the graphics better etc.?
To answer the question in the video title. No it was not beter than then movie. The movie was fantastic. The game was good ;) especially for a Disney movie tie in
I remember this game they should put it in the PlayStation plus category I'm waiting for the Harry Potter ps2 games to go on there and bugs life spider man 1 2 and 3 movie games
Eh the knock off sega genesis version is better (Yes,theres a sega genesis bootleg for a bugs life and its based on the game boy colour version of the game)
I hate how everyone makes everything a competition. Why can’t I like both? They’re both good and different. Why is the fact that it’s your personal least favorite’s relevant? I mean, if you want MY opinion… Antz falls apart over and over. But it’s still just as good.
Toy Story 2 goes hand in hand with it.
i grew up playing the PS1 version of it and loved it so much, it has NEVER left my videogame collection
I remember playing the PC version of the game as a kid, unfortunately one of the bugs popping out of the walls in the later levels scared me to a point where I couldn't complete the game.
Oh man, I loved A Bug's Life back in the day, that game was so much fun. Although I never got past that bird 😔
Play it again on a emulator, most PCs can emulate PS1 same for phones and its so easy to set up
Despite being on superior hardware, A Bug's Life: The Game has a limited set of lives for the player to use, and once they're gone, you're sent back to the first level.
Yeah, it's one of those games that really challenges your perseverance, patience and skills.
Hopper is of course the saving grace of both the game and movie
If you're taking 30 seconds to complete a level, you're not doing it right.
12:07 i love the way you say
'' bye '' 🤣
The PS1 game was just a joy to play.
Regarding controller paks, games that required them were more common than you think. As far as the PC version is concerned, its a one for one port of the PS1 version, but with better graphics and altered sound effects.
and I do admit I love the blooper sequences at the credits of most early Pixar movies as they are legit funny, even funnier as an adult cause of the attention to detail with behinds the scenes stuff, it makes it pretty immersive and adds to the humour, it actual was inspired for cut content in Conker's Bad Fur Day, originally they were also gonna do that blooper sequence but had to scrap a rather disturbing cutscene cause N64 wouldn't allow it and they recycled one of those bloopers to replace the scene, ending up with no blooper sequence

Great review man, I always enjoyed the film though I've never played the game
My PC copy of the game was called "A Bug's Adventure" instead of A Bug's Life, despite being the same game. Anyway, upon the mention of Cold Shadow, do it please! 🙏 (The PC version with the awesome music)
I played the PS1 version as a kid
It sucks so much Disney doesn't make games like this anymore
Bugs Life is top 10 Pixar

Ohh, i'll definitely check out that video. Thanks for the reccomendation.

Just here to comment the music, The PS1 Feels like a HC version of N64
I remember this game they should put it in the PlayStation plus category I'm waiting for the Harry Potter ps2 games to go on there and bugs life spider man 1 2 and 3 movie games

This game was very decent for a movie tie in game
I just fixed my ps2 from aloooong long time ago and it worksssss
Im playing a bugs life and i am really really enjoying it
I like A Bug's Life

The low point of the game is the Atta flying level. That level was trash. Like a brick wall right before the end.
pc version is the best
