- Hi guys, Tech James here,
How to setup and install the kernel/firmware for the EZ-Flash Junior! The EZ-Flash Junior is for the GameBoy and GameBoy Color, but it does work on GBA! The link to the firmware is not secure for some reason? So, I’ll link it in the comments!

For anyone watching this Tutorial, DO NOT select Default Allocation Size when formatting the SD card, select 32kb or 64kb otherwise the Cart will not save your games. This was difficult to diagnose, but if you're games aren't saving I'll bet that's the reason.
Recently bought one of these. Thanks for the heads up
thanks man. do GBA games work on this?
@@ShamanNoodles no, gba games are for ez flash iv
@@ShamanNoodles Ez Flash Omega
Thanks, your a life saver
This setup guide helped a bunch! Had some trouble figuring out how to save games but otherwise everything worked out well. Thanks!
"Dumped my own roms"
"never played this game"
Haha that’s actually quality.
haha also, "I dump my own roms of my own cartridges" shows a bootleg multi cart hahahaha class
Man this would be perfect for my gbc when I decide to breathe new life into it, maybe even coupled with a new backlit screen.
So dude, it's been a year.....where you at?
@@8BitPasta Still haven't gone through with it. Been busy with other projects like learning some basic coding.
I never saw the point of a backlight. You can use a worm light and 2 1.2 volt rechargeable AA batteries with like 2200+ mah for 25-50 hours of life. Longer life is much better than a backlit screen. Plus solder can be risky and just isn't worth the risk for a system that isn't being remade and is in limited supply.
@@7GSC251 The way I see it you'll have to learn how to use a soldering iron at some point anyways when you're into old consoles. I started fixing broken controllers like their vibration and analog sticks, and eventually moved on to more complex stuff. To me knowing these things is preservation. But yeah only do things you're comfortable with.
@@7GSC251 there are screens that you can just drop in and have no soldering or cutting to do
This stuff is gold for retro gamers ! ! ! 😀
Thank you very much. I couldn't have done it without you! 😅👍🏼✌🏼😎😅
Awesome I would totally get one if I had a gameboy color or gba sp.
The special screen for game boy games was included because the game boy pocket had no knob and actually you could insert and start GBC games.
Easy man took me 10 minutes. Thank you so much.
Great video, thank you for covering the whole process of install. I saw the auto save. Is there any unique way to save games or do you just save in game?
Love your videos
brings back memories, i remember they sold a giant ass magnifying class contraption that had a little light on it to deal with the bad technology back then, and those 4 AA batteries ate the gameboy power so easily too, all the good games didn't come out of japan which pissed me off even more, i've seen games that looked like half double dragon and half street fighter, the west got what? tetris? black and white mortal kombat....big whoop
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 it works, just as described on the vid! Thanks!
This is AWESOME!!!!! Thanks brother.
Danke for that cool Video 👍
Can you save ingame and does it load up at the saved state when reopening?
bro. where has this been in my life? as a child i always wanted a GBC/GBA cartridge that played full games. im definitely gonna get this!
If anybody still has the original gameboy you can change the color palette based on what button or buttons combo you press. There are 12 colors you can pick. When the gb logo appears press: up for brown. Or up+A for red. and so forth.
@Kagereneko Yes I'm talking about the original game boy with the green screen. The color can be changed. The game boy color that I got back in 1998, and I still have today, came with a little booklet that tells you how to change the color of the original by pressing button combos before the gb logo appears. I still have that booklet with the info, and when I had the original gb I tried it and it did work.
Cool. Never knew that😁
Could you do a tutorial for PKGi for PS3, I have no idea how to set it up.
Do i have to change battery after time just like normal gbc games to hold the saves?
Sry bad english im from germany but i hope u understand what i mean
Does anyone know where i can get the games for this. I'm trying to find a way to download the games so I can play them and I can't seem to find any.
got 2 for lsdj. very cool. wish i could have ordered them without the stickers but that's just nit picking
Tip: Do NOT buy an SD card with a lot of storage, GB and GBC libraries are very small in size and getting a 32GB card will make loading times very long. I first got a 32GB one because it's the maximum the flash card can handle, but it took ages to load folders. I then copied all of my files onto a 1GB SD card i had sitting in a drawer for about 15 years, and the loading times are MUCH faster now. I wish i didn't buy the 32GB one but it was only like 8€ i'l just keep it and maybe i can use it in the future for something else.
Likes likes baby. You are my jam right now over at Posterposterous. You're a Postposterous kid now. :P
This update, does it updates the gameboy or the ezcard? I intent to use it on Original Gameboy, will it work?
Hey, maybe you can help me out.
Do games played from this device support link-cable/infrared functionality?
Yes. Link cable and IR depend on the hardware for usage.
Great video !! :-D
I already have two EZ-Flash IV Omega cartridges.
The next one are one or two EZ-Flash Jr.
Can I use my save files from emulator vba?
Does it matter what type of card is used??? because i only have the exFAT as an option with a 64gb card and it keeps giving me "Micro Sd card, initial error!"
How good is the RTC function? I'm thinking of getting one of these for Pokemon Prism.
Works fine for pokemon crystal.
@@PLATESWEEPER is it possible to trade the pokemon?
@@muhammadrauf2600
Yeah, but i heard is needed a hood cable link or somethink like that jeje
I glad you use "un-moded" gameboy , for retro and Nostagia Feeling better on those blurry pixelated non backlit screen 🤓👍 because reason we play those retro game is because of nostalgia reason, right ?
Does this work with the Super Gameboy player?
That's not the contrast wheel! That's the volume wheel!
What does the auto Save do exactly? Is it like save states? Curious.
"Auto save" automatically saves the save game created by the game from RAM to SD Card. It's not an automatical savestate function.
You need to get a backlite for your old GB & 2 frontlines for the GBC & GBA. I installed my own on my old GB it was easy and my 1st time using a solder iron. I have a usb cart just for LSDJ rom.
I prefer old non-mod gameboy without backlit, play it as we play back then. Modding just remove *Nostagia Feeling* because reason we play old console/handheld is Nostagia right ? 🤓 If we want to play on better screen just play via emulator on smartphone or those cheap emulator hh like new bittboy or LDK 🤷🏻♂️
this. anyways I just ordered a IPS screen replacement for mine, will check how it goes.
Hi, It seems I cant save games, is the Update obligatory? What can I do?
my ez flash does not work on pal snes supergameboy but it works on og gameboy and color
I am getting a lot of crashes due to "filesystem errors" with this thing. Even after updating the firmware, re-organizing my files according their recommendation (100 files max per folder, 32 folders in root), switching SD card, shortening file names etc. The errors have become less frequent but I still get them. Anyone else has this problem?
Hi. The GBC folder does not appear on my Ez flash, but the GB folder looks ok. I'm using it on my GBA. Anyone can give me a tip on how to solve this?
Does the multiplayer for example pokemon yellow?
Support real time save?
Does this card have a time bomb?
Will it run pokemon crystal fine with the RTC?
So good to play hack rom on a real gameboy. I need to get one !
I got myself one of these from Aliexpress, can I update the firmware or it would brick my flashcart?
do you NEED to update the firmware or is it working?
If it works, don't try to fix it.
Reminds me of an IT guy... a Microsoft Certified's first month at my workplace despite we use Debian and he's "learning" here.
«Noobs, do we have a backup for the compta's PC?»
«Yes we have but why?»
«I was doing a routine check and updates with the drivers, security... so it was flashing a new BIOS windows had to reboot to apply changes, now it's making long beeps»
«Did I explicitely ask you to do anything?»
«It's my job, don't worry about that, i'm handling it!»
«Turn off your office's PC and bring it in the compta's office, I'll move the hard disks when I'm done with that.»
«Man that's not going to be possible, i need it»
«Not anymore, you're fired.»
Does the N64 transfer pack read this thing?
I bought a GBC with black light screen. I'm excited for it
black light?
that's gonna trigger some physicists to know someone achieved generating antiphotons.
@@SilverSpoon_ ahaha back light >.
@@lil_wildboar yeh, however i'm renovating yet another, original GB but not doing the backlight mod, but going directly with an IPS ( RIPS V3) 45$ or something on Ali, the screen is really something else than the LCD.
The boss
Does it work with on the game boy pocket
Your mic is clipping pretty bad buddy. But cool review for this device.
Can u put randomized Pokémon games on this and play it on a gameboy
Wenn you start a gbc game in a gb it say that's not for gameboy klassik
i need a cheap flashcard for the nes but cant find one
Is it possible to run lsdj with this?
Stupid question, but once you finish updating the firmware can you delete the file off the card to declutter?
What does auto save even do ? Like auto saving something yesh but when and what exacly ^^'
It saves the data to the sd card after you reboot it
@@PLATESWEEPER ah okay :o but when you have it off you need to wait 5 seconds like with the other ez flashcards ?
@@IcePhoenixOfTime no.
I still have the old consoles
I'll check if I might have a chance to try the EZ3
You’ll get a screen saying the game will only play on Game Boy Color.
My ez flash junior just keeps freezing on my game boy dmg any help would be grate please 🙏
🤤"oooOooooooh. I N E E D this."
Chris Cash Music Hahaha yeah it looks pretty nice
What would make it freeze on loading
Just got my EZflash omega(I normally get Everdrives, but the features weren't worth all the extra. I can wait a few seconds for it to write the save to SD), and I just put in my order for the EZflash Junior after seeing the quality is quite nice. I had heard from some it felt cheap, but not really.
My card runs only on seconf try. Is that normal?
Can I change colors on GB games if I will play on GBC or GBA?
I don’t have a gba but I was able to switch the color palettes on my gbc
I'm searching for a flash cartidge. I think i am gonna buy that one. But man unacceptable.....you haven't tested on saving progress. Can it save games like Pokemon or wario land? This is what people want to know more. Anyway thanks for sharing it.
Can i play this of a Normal Gbc?
What’s the main difference between EverDrive GB and EZ-Flash Junior?
I think just the sticker. On aliexpress I bought an everdrive gb and in the description it said Ez flash cartidge. They also said the sticker may vary.
What does “auto-save” do? Is this capable of saving your progress within games? It would be frustrating if I had to start over every time I fired it up...
"Auto save" automatically saves the save game created by the game from RAM to SD Card. It's not an automatical savestate function.
Klotz define automatical
@@diablo1of112 other flash cards require you to reboot into the flash cards menu to save the game there. This one does save the game to SD by itself without requiring the user to do anything besides using the in-game save function.
The original question was if the EZFlash does a savestate. It does but not by itself for example when powering off the device like odroid go does. Savestates can be saved manually via the in-game menu provided by the flash card.
Klotz i was just messin with ya man lol u said automatical
I dont have game boy but i watching it
I cant for the life of me get this to run lsdj. I tried the whole replacing the .sav file too and still cant get it to work. I have the newest firmware and kernel, I formatted the sd card right.. I feel like saying it can handle lsdj is a bit misleading because even when replacing the .sav file in saver with bgb it still has issues for those it actually works for. It didnt work for me at all though. If someone reads this and could help I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm about five seconds away from tossing this cart in the trash and buying one that for sure works with lsdj without having to constantly move my sd card between multiple things.
Question ....do you have a guide to hack psvita 3.73 ..
I will wait for the Omega or Definitive Edition version...I really NEED save states
"i backed up my own games"
"i never played mortal kombat and lego race" HAHAH
milad H yeah that made lol as well
Does this support save states like the Omega?
No 😔, need save directly to the game
Has anybody tried this with the Super Gameboy?
It'd be cool to see if the SGB specific games actually retain their special borders.. like Donkey Kong GB
Doesn’t work.
hola. funcionara en una gb colour (china) vsaludos.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to put GBA roms on this cart? Thought would be cool to play like Emerald or something on my Gameboy Color lol.
No it wont work
gameboy pocket didnt have the power switch lock so thats why that screen was made
worked after reformatted to fat32 32kb allocation on the gba sp only, would not run on gbc. worked fine after the initial install on the gba sp
I take it back, the games do not save and save file is deleted when you turn off the system...
on my GBC I get "Loading..." "Micro SD Initial Error!" what could be causing this?
Only use 4-32gb sd cards. FAT32 formatted with 32kb allocation
Does it have save state for all games? Or only games that originally have save state?
I read an article that provided evidence that flash carts will damage consoles over time
I know which article you are talking about and it was debunked a long time ago and it doesn't apply to the handheld systems.
That original article was written on faulty logic that flashcarts only accept a maximum input of 3.3v whereas consoles output 5v and the excess power is overheating your system.
As it turns out even the cheap Aliexpress flashcards have a minimum input of 3.3v and a maximum of 4v and always have a diode that drops the consoles voltage to the cartridge by 0.6v meaning the flash chip is running only 0.4v higher than its maximum, at this voltage the only damage your doing is to the cartridge itself which is why they don't last very long, you're console is safe.
More premium cartridges such as the Everdrive don't have this issue as they support up to 7.5v I believe so they last for much longer again with no risk to your console.
As for GB/GBC/GBA flashcarts the handhelds only put out 3.3v and as even the original article says there's no mismatch between the power output of the console and power input of the flashcart so even if the article was true it wouldn't apply to those systems.
The only way you'll break your console with a flashcart is if the cartridge is cheaply made and is a tight fit and the pin contacts get yanked out on removal and if my EZ flash omega DE is anything to go by the cartridges are pretty quality.
EDIT: The OP of that article DB Electronics where Nintendolife got their source from deleted his article on his site and his UA-cam video talking about this issue so if you wanted more evidence it's BS that's pretty telling.
could someone tell me if RTC (Real time Clock) works on this model for pokémon games?
Not at the moment. It is advertised as though it does, but the current firmware has a bug that makes the RTC jump all around to random times/days
I've just ordered the EZ FLASH OMEGA for GBA, I wish there was one that worked on all Gameboy systems.
That's not possible because GBA games run on 3.3 Volts and GB/GBC on 5V. A GBA cartridge could be damaged by the higher voltage. Also, GB cartridges press a physical switch inside the console to indicate that they are a GB game. The circuits for everything GBA related will be turned off by that. GB games are not emulated on the GBA. There is a whole GBC built in. Even if there would be a cartridge that could accept both voltages, there would be no way to turn the switch for 3 or 5 Volts regarding to what type of game you intend to play.
@@klotz__ Someone could definitely get around those issues if they were clever enough.
What's the difference between Ez-Flash Junior & EverDrive? I have a GMC
I also want to use this flash card to play GBA games too on a Gameboy SP / Advance
They are all flash carts that run roms on sd card, all the same.
From which website do you guys get your roms when you don't have back-ups from your original GBC games?
google
Moments after browsing my files the screen blanks out
Turn down the brightness, it uses a lot of power. Maybe this can fix your problem, i had the same problem and the screen would start flashing black, turning down the brightness a bit fixed it.
Not sure, but the 16gb sd card you have could probably fit both gb/gbc romsets.
Can you have fullscreen while playing on gba ?
Does this have drains GBA battery more than a regular GBC cartridge?
Yes bro 😔
Why are they flash carts so expensive.. the r4 carts is way cheaper
R4 have timebomb ;) thats the reason
@@DoubbleDdragon There is ways around that though and you can also change the date on your ds so it doesn't tick it

After the Omega it’ll be a cold day in hell before I buy another ez flash product.
How come? Wasn't the omega good?
Hmbs no, it is terrible. Freezes, corrupts mem cards losing all saves. Worked with ezflash rep on gbatemp but it’s a lost cause. Went back to my ezflash4 or rg350
@@diversionmary ah man that's a shame I was thinking of getting one
@@diversionmary I think it's rather your SD Card that is faulty. I have had no issues with my Omega.
Klotz yes, that’s what ezflash said too, so I bought multiple cards, both what they recommended and good Samsung. We all did. Also tried all their diff partition types, setup, cleaned contacts, diff cases (they thought it was overheating at one point), diff units (micro, DS lite, gba sp). No dice.
This video is decent but you cant honestly believe youre the first person to ever attempt loading a gbc game on a gb.
I don't see anything about cheats. Kinda lame. To bad it doesn't detect a actual gamesharl. It's a pass for me then.
Rocking the everdrive gb x7. I got it early it's the first rev, supposedly it has problems with GBP. I don't own one of those anyways. THe later revs fixed that. The menu button on the cart broke but i sent it in for repair, works now but i don't trust it. if i got a opportunity im going to sell it and get a newer rev one.
The EZflash omega i got cuz of cheats thou it works for only 65% of the games but if you don't activate cheats the capability is higher.
