Watching this reminds me that he matches or even exceeds Sanders on highlight reels. Sanders was INCREDIBLE… but I still think these highlights are a notch better. Just as many jukes, cuts, and slips… but with a heavy dose of truck and 8 TD passes for good measure.
No jukin'? Emmitt could out juke anybody. I get so tired of Walter Payton and Barry Sanders fans shitting on Emmitt Smith. Go watch some Emmitt Smith highlights.

Grew up watching this man. He was something else. I think he was the back up punter and the quarterback for a number of years. I remember him playing qb a couple times.
He is as back up QB one season when McMahon was particularly injury prone (most seasons really) he once punted (39 yds which is solid), has 8 TD passes + 1 in the playoffs, 331 yds passing, is the first RB since the NFL-NFL merger to have a rushing, receiving and passing TD in the same game. David Patten (2001) and Ladanian Tomlinson (2005) are the only others to do so.
Man they don't make em like that anymore. That forearm, wow. Greatest all around running back ever. They should show every team this tape, to show how a real man plays with everything he has on every play. And teamwork, that blocking was amazing. Makes me remember why I love football.

My fav runs of his were when it was looking like he was gonna lose like maybe three yards, but he'd put his head down and dive forward for no gain, no loss. He always seemed to get just a little bit more right at the ends of runs.
Tar ico. Agree. He played on some pretty bad teams early. How many times did be get hit in the backfield and turn it into a 3 yard gain? Thats where a bunch of his yards came from.
His running skills were 2nd to none, agile and strong, but what I loved most about Walter Payton was not just his ability to block, but the passion and enjoyment he seemed to get out of making holes for other people.

All commentary would do is ruin a fabulous video.
Absolutely my most fav player of all time! Thanks for the memories
My favorite player of all time... Mr Smooth could just glide down field. 34 was a master.
I had no intentions of watching this video fully through, but I couldn't stop watching. Man that guy was great. I was a grade school student toward the end of his career. I knew he was good, but this puts it in a whole new light. Late 70's baby hehe
great video of the GOAT!
Tru Dat
A true team player. I wish I could've met him. Not only a hall of fame football player, but a caring soul. He even asked prayers for the people who bad-mouthed him as he was losing his toughest battle. God bless Walter.
I know what you are talking about.... especially the local news broadcasters that were making fun of him! They didn't know about his personal health struggles. So sad. I met him in the mid 90's and he was so funny! He was making fun and told my friend his fly was down.... it wasn't! He laughed and walked away. Haha
The best running back of all time
No, he ran forward! (Less running back)
Dumb humor
The greatest
Aaron Hines WELL SAID👍
Sorry...second best. Barry Sanders was the best.
Wilson Quick WALTER PAYTON HAD MORE YARDS....AND WAS FASTER THAN BARRY.
HE WAS THE 🐐
Watching this reminds me that he matches or even exceeds Sanders on highlight reels. Sanders was INCREDIBLE… but I still think these highlights are a notch better.
Just as many jukes, cuts, and slips… but with a heavy dose of truck and 8 TD passes for good measure.
No jukin’ Emmitt Smith needed tractors to beat this man’s rushing record. What you’re witnessing is a MAN!
yup...Emmet had the luxury of that o line Walter didn't if Walter had that type of o line he'd still be the leading rusher still
Sweetness the best ! 34
As someone born in Texas amd a cowboys fan I always hated when people said Emmitt was better than Barry and Walter
No jukin'? Emmitt could out juke anybody. I get so tired of Walter Payton and Barry Sanders fans shitting on Emmitt Smith. Go watch some Emmitt Smith highlights.
@@zorro149 No. You're here. We'll stay here. We know where the 2k negative votes are from.
I missed the 85 bears by a year and a tad. I am 33 years old. I am a DIE HARD BEAR FAN since I was 2. Walter Payton is the reason why!
Had the honor of watching Walter play in '86. Its still sad he never got to score a touchdown in the Superbowl.
right, that's why he will never be the greatest player.
It's about the tds on THE WAY to the super bowl that matter
@@jesusbarraza9683 That's why everyone is blocking you
@@gordon4385 bahahahahaha, ok kid. Drink your milk and get to bed. This is a game for big boys.
Ya, Ditka had an opportunity to give Payton a TD at the 1 yard line but he gave Fridge the TD instead.
Payton did it all, run catch throw the ball and he was a devastating blocker
Walter was the GREATEST by far. The man was a stud!!! I love how physical he ran the ball. Defense wants contact, Walter said OK. Legend... God bless and keep him.
What an amazing athlete and all around good guy. Mind you this is coming from a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. RIP Walter. You WERE the man. ...you're still the man.
RIP Sweetness. Although a Rams fan, I always respected your skills and the way you played the game. 💯 % class.
If you noticed that nasty forearm to the face its because he had forearms like Popeye. He could walk on his hands for 100 yards. He routinely punished tacklers. What a warrior he was.
#34 Walter Payton was so great that opposing teams running backs wanted to see him run actually the whole entire team watched in amazement @#34God bless Walter Payton!🙏🏾
Class, class, class. No showing off, just one of the most exciting players of all time. Balance, timing, acceleration, gracefulness and dependability all rolled into one player.
Thank you for this....
Thanks for posting this footage. I want my kids to see what I witnessed as the greatest! Long live Walker Payton !!!
I remember watching the 1999 press conference when he announced that he had a rare form of cancer, and that he wasn't expecting to live much longer. It was a shock.
Stopped watching football when he quit playing. Definitely the GOAT
Greatest all around football player ever. All around that is. No doubts. Case closed. Next.
I still admire and love this man. He was a class act on and off the field....I love myself some, "Sweetness." Rest In peace, Mr. Payton.
The GREATEST RUNNING BACK EVER.
Tuff as nails...these áre different from the rést,and they proved it in their lifetime...
Saw him play in 1977, End Zone seats...amazing!!
Me too. It was truly amazing!
This Battered Warrior Was IN Miserable PAIN..(according to his wife) all the years as a Bear
Met him in training camp in platville Wisc, one awesome person , so humble,, he was sitting down against a tree with Wally Chambers asked for a autograph and he said sure...the greatest all around running back of ALL TIME..!!
One of the things that made him Special was how many times he had the first down and could have ran out of bounce yet kept fighting for More yards .
I watched my father watch Walter when I was younger .soon as I saw him play he became my favourite running back ever .thanks dad for making me watch a great perform r.i.p mr payton .
The Bears were blessed with 2 great RBs... Sayers & Payton.. shizz!!...
Those saying Sanders was the best, at stopping on a dime and this and that, didn't see Sayers.
@J D Don't have a clue what you mean, or what older has to do with anything, but I suppose that makes me older, too.
Although never a bears fan, sweetness was something else. Thank you very much for this.
Greatest to ever put on the uniform!
fan4life34 he NEVER quit.
Him and Farve had the same heart.
He was GREAT! But he was not better than JIM BROWN!
@@georgeoshust793Walter was better because he could do more. He could run, block, catch, throw even punt the damn ball.
@Cadillac Kadafi seriously? Wow, that is a low bar.
Rice ,moss and both sanders
Diehard Lions fan.....but always loved watching Payton run. The early 80s had some excellent RBs. Payton, Sims, Cribbs, Campbell, Dorsett, Franco Harris, Joe Delaney, William Andrews and many more.
He’s the greatest all-around running back of all time.
Great RB and great man. He has a very unique running style that is all his own.
Started out as a drummer in the Columbia Mississippi high school band.
Well he ended up POUNDING more than just drums
Wow, imagine if Payton played behind Emmitt Smith’s all-star offensive line!?!? Payton turned nothing into 20+ yard play every game. Goat
Sweetness carried the BEARS for every season leading up to the SUPER BOWL when they won and DITKA forgot to give the BALL for an easy TD but instead kept letting the FRIG TAKE IT IN! DITKA I think said he forgot or something like that but there was no excuse for that at all! The greatest EVER is WALTER PAYTON! RIP SWEETNESS as you are still missed!
Ditcka and Jim mc dummy did not think about Sweetness to give him a touchdown....buddys departure was the fall of the dynasty cause of....u guessed it: Ditcka jealousy of buddy.
Payton carried the ball 9 times inside the 10-yard line but failed to score in the super bowl. Yes, Ditka should have kept giving it to him. I wish he did.
That block in minnesota was the best block a running back can make.in todays game the qb is sacked.walter was all pure effort, will, heart.walter payton
His emblem should be on all NFL footballs!!
My favorite player of all time. I got a chance to meet him when I was 11yrs old at a car show. I almost passed out.
I'm glad you did. Awesome! He was a great guy. I met him too. Read the funny story in my description of my Payton video of the early years: 1975-1979 ua-cam.com/video/pNg_YG23MiE/v-deo.html
Walter paytons theory of forwardability
Never give an INCH. Make em PAY
The man, the myth, the legend. He is the standard for running backs.
