Not a guy, but I love seeing your take on gizmos and gadgets!
Yes! Love this!
Minimalist Wallets are not my thing for those exact reasons. Luv me Fossil Foldout with my name pressed into it in goldleaf :)
Oyster shuck, file.
I'd watch a full series of greg explaining why X gizmo is useless and why you only need to use a case specific knot instead....
hell I'd listen to him just ranting about knots in general lol
Please, do anti-gift guide with girl stuff and let Meredith host it
Oh my god yes please. More Meredith.
Yes please!!!!
THIS!!!
Fucking love this idea
The content we need
I love that Greg went into a total dad lecture on the virtues of his preferred cardboard knife. Took me back to my own dad standing in the garage talking for 45 minutes straight about why he loved his favorite 6' ladder and it was better than all the other ladders
Well why was it the best and where can I buy one?
@@nut897 haha it was from a chain store in Western PA called Trader Horn's that's been out of business for years. He really liked the feet on the bottom (more stable with grips - he was scared of heights so going up on ladders was a big to-do for him)
I've noticed that I'm starting to develop these opinions. I held a monologue just the other day about ice scrapers and why Kungs Max-Is is the best one.
We own two of them! I smiled when I saw him extolling the virtues of the cardboard knife 🥰
My favorite thing is listening to autistic parents that don't know they're autistic talking about their hobbies
Ladders, model trains, lawnmowers, saltwater aquariums, making furniture....
My partner used to be homeless and the can opener reminded me of something important.
Firstly, this holiday season, if any of you are planning on donating canned goods, please also see if you can donate can openers. They sell them at a lot of dollar stores and it's shocking how few homeless people actually have them.
Secondly, when donating canned goods, please be sure that what you're donating seems safe. If you wouldn't trust giving your family something then please don't give it to someone with less access to healthcare than you.
I lived on the streets of Seattle 10 years ago. Super totally double-secret-S-tier agree about CAN OPENERS. I also had a stainless steel spoon in my backpack that I'd clean in the sink of a Starbucks bathroom. Survived on a lot of baked beans eaten right out of the can.
And also, yes, don't use a food drive as an excuse to clean your cabinet out and donate your trash. Some things bear repeating, so I'll second that "If it's not good enough for your family, it's not good enough to donate." You know that Seinfeld episode about the muffin stumps? As a former homeless person, I feel the same way about your cream of mushroom soup you had left over from last Thanksgiving's disgusting green bean casserole because you bought too many.
And finally, although I am not one myself, if I learned anything from meeting homeless women on the street, it's that they NEVER have enough feminine hygiene products. Donate those to your local women's shelter.
@@SimuLordi like cream of mushroom soup though
I always thought the purpose of those “tactical pens” was so you could get in a fight with a swordsman, and find out if the pen really is mightier than the sword.
This is the correct answer.
"Give me an orange I didn't rip in half with a rope" is my favorite Greg quote of the year.
Despite hearing Greg say it himself, I can only read that quote in an Alex Jones voice
Honestly? Me too
@@minerbean Omg you just took this up another level. Yes
As someone who does make soap, and am in Soapmaking communities saying Cold Process is basically the same as Toasted Tobacco and is the most common kind of Soap you'll find in home made communities.
Much like when every coffee place says "100% Arabica", by far the most common kind of coffee bean
Cool. Thank you
My mother is a soap maker and predominantly does hot process. The main advantage of cold process is the scent options. Some sense such as citrus volatize at a lower temperature. If you want sense such as lemon or orange cold process is a better option.
cold processed soap is 1000% just toasted tobacco
@@cmg565 yeah and that's super cool! Hot process isn't as common and still produces some really nice bars, I was just saying Cold Process is the most common.
“If anyone is stealthy enough to steal your rfid, let ‘‘em have it.” I’m a big fan of criminals earning their keep, it’s why I don’t lock my balcony door, I live on the top floor of my building. If they want my stuff that bad, they can have it. Good stuff, Greg.
"Gerber makes baby food and knives."
Oh, man. Thanks. That's the first time I've genuinely laughed in longer than I can remember.
Greg: I'm done with pockets!
Me, a purse haver: boy do I have the product for you
I will definitely say that a lot of guys take pockets for granted. Transitioning made me realize how rare good pockets are on women's clothing. So yea, purses, fanny packs, knapsacks and the like are life savers.
Now my goal having this knowledge is building an outfit to maximize my inventory space!
One of my favourite parts of this show is that now and then we just get random tidbits of Greg lore every now and then. Highlights today include the fact that Greg has friends that smoked opium like 1800s sailors and also that Greg cuts his own hair.
And that he was a repo man
And he's a pescatarian! As an animal loving bro dude (I hope my wife sees this video for advice on manly man which I totally am I mean what have you heard?) I appreciate this greatly
i was a pescatarian for a few years and i lost 30 lbs in the first three months. i should do that again lol
“and also that Greg cuts his own hair.”
No! I would have never guessed!
always suspected him to be opium adjacent
I really respect Greg's integrity regarding sponsors. Like if he doesn't use it or think it's good, he's not going to take the money to recommend it to us lot. Plus the 'buy it for life' mentality. What an excellent guy who makes excellent content.
On the shaving supplies discussion at the end: YES! When I discovered how good and how cheap safety razors are, it shocked me. I simply cannot believe how much money people spend on shaving.
Yeah me too. I've been using a safety razor for a few years now, it's unbelieveble how a thing so simple yet so much better than modern razor is not used by every shaver. Next best thing: old school shaving soap, 10 times better than any shaving foam, I forgot what a shaving irritation is.
@@Rankidu YES! love the stuff.
This video was off the rails, from making $400 old fashioneds, to sharding yourself, to eating uncooked beans straight from the can xD
And cutting an orange with a rope
Well, technically they are cooked. But probably not the best tasting straight from the can.
That kinda shit is soooo cool. My GF gets me stuff like that. At 56 years old the little boy inside me still gets excited. :)
They're definitely cooked, if they weren't they could kill you. They're just not warmed.
I always love thinking of the sheer horror whiskey snobs must have watching Greg pour Pappy into a cocktail
Agreed. Anything that will make whiskey snobs seethe is the correct choice to make
"Today we're making a whiskey and Coke with Pappy Van Winkle just to see how many whiskey snobs I can kill with 1 video..."
Oh, I'm sure they're seething
"NOOO YOU'RE RUINING IT!"
All the more reason to do it. My whiskey, I'll do what I want with it.
Don't comment on videos often but this was highly enjoyable. The blazon disgust at the "manly" items that mostly are a cash grab is hilarious. I also love the honesty and the openness to the possibility that an item could be great. Would love to see you review more "Manly" based tools, gadgets, Etc.
"This is a great gift for somebody who asks exactly for this."
-Greg Titian
Truer words have never been spoken.
As a Barber hearing Greg talk super accurately about shaving as well as promotiong Wahl products is badass
After I got my Wahl, and my safety razor, damn, never looked back.
"If they're stealthy enough to RFID your cards off you, just let them have it."
There was a follow up that got cut there about a drill sgt. teaching me how to find a hand grenade booby trap underneath an anti tank mine, that was his attitude "I've got to teach you this, but man, if they can figure out how to get a hand grenade under there, I'm sorry dude, but they got you"
Terrible advice. A guy walking on the sidewalk with a backpack bumps shoulders with you. You just got rfid swiped. Good rfid scanners don't require high stealth, they have decent range and can fit in a backpack.
@@Astounded2 "let people steal you is terrible advice". You must have gotten really good grades to have figured that out, man, fuck, if you hadnt said it, i'd have just believed it was good advice from the funny drink man.
@@Astounded2 A smart phone with an app can read your card in your wallet, in your pocket from an inch or two away. If they want it, they're getting it.
@@Astounded2 "He might've also stole your whole wallet. That's how our grandads do it, before they came up with flimsy plastic rfid scanners"
Future videos like this should be titled How To Deal (if you want it to also have the initials of HTD) or just call it How To Buy. Love the show please keep it up, the aesthetics and vibe are always comforting/funny to experience.
I find this show incredibly comforting
The taut-line hitch is one of the few knots from my Boy Scout days that continues to come in handy year over year. I've forgotten most, but that's the one that I'm really glad that I know. Taut-line hitch, two-half hitches, and the square knot are more than enough for most practical uses.
I'd be down to watch a once-a-month gear guide. The way Greg describes things is A+
maybe a livestream
@@howtodrink when are you doing the new haley strategic plate Carrier review!?
I feel like once a month may be a little too often, but I definitely like the idea. He's a good guy with good taste and sensabilities.
@@KaptajnKaffe I have no idea what this means but I can only assume it's some sort of tactical picnic basket
@@Brion57042 well, it can be 😅
First: I admire the restraint it must've taken to not break out in a "I'M THE SQUATCH MAN! SKEE BOP BA BADA BOP" bit during the man soap segment.
Second: I second the idea of a Meredith-hosted anti-gift guide. I get the feeling that she's much of a girly girl as you are a manly man - that is, _not,_ not really - which is a huge part of the appeal. Basically, I want her staring at something needlessly gendered, slathered in obnoxiously pastel pink, shouting "WHO IS THIS FOR?!?" at it.
I’d love to hear her talk about how dumb some of the “women directed” products are. Every time I’m buying hair product or something it’ll be like “smell refreshing so you can get the man of your dreams” and it’s a bright pink bottle with flowers on it.
"YOU'RE NOT A DISH, YOU'RE A MAN!!"
Imagine having the last name "Skatz" growing up...
I mean aside from manly and girly being generally just sexist gender roles, hyper gendered products are always shit because they are trying to capitalise on the aforementioned sexist gender roles
Here's how it works. Convince men that makeup is gendered. Convince them that all existing makeup is dor women. Now make the same makeup but say its for men. BOOM you have no competition
I never thought of the hori hori knife as a "tacticool" item because I always associated the thing to raised garden beds and grandmas and grandpas tending to their home plots and flower beds.
I have one with a good front end and it is my best weeding tool by far. I get a ton of use out of it every spring
@@nibblitman yeah, that's what I always thought about them. Great all in tool for small plots and plans. I knew an old man who even used it for some grafting of fruiting bonsai and other potted trees.
It also just doesn’t look very tactical, imho. “Tactical” to my mind is lightweight, matte finishes and synthetic materials. This is none of those things.
genuinely thank you for this. I really struggle getting gifts for my dad, I normally default to decent quality bamboo work socks and something silly but I always feel a bit predictable doing that so I'm grateful for any insight into the Mind Of The Dad
One thing I really appreciate about Greg's reviews is that he likes to buy stuff for life. You can get quality stuff that won't last forever, but stuff that lasts forever is almost always high quality. I appreciate that he doesn't need a bunch of junk and gizmos. Just stuff that works, works well, and works for a while. I would love to see more reviews, because I almost always agree with his take. No need to buy stuff for the first few episodes I'd like to see some of the stuff he owns that he recommends other people get too.
I'm not going to lie, I really like the Gerber shard. I've had one on my keyring for the better part of 4 years and have used it to open boxes, repair friends glasses, scrape off a battery terminal to start an older car, and a whole bunch of other random uses when I didn't have proper tools to use. It also is quite effective for prying little things, and you don't have to worry about damaging it since it's only like $9 and it's tough as nails.
Agreed, way more useful than you would think. Sometimes you just need a smol piece of hardened steel.
I used to carry a Leatherman daily, and that was nice, but it kept setting off the panic button on my keyfob. I swapped it out for a Shard 6-7 years ago, and it's opened every taped box for me, opened many, many bottles, and saved me when I quickly needed a screwdriver or to pry something.
@@MisterSquared I also used to carry a Leatherman Wave daily, but now I have them strategically placed both at home, in car, and in my travel bag since they are very handy. But lightning up my carry with the shard was awesome
shard is nice, saved my ass a good number of times
yep, i've had mine for 8 or so years now and it's sneakily useful. The cutter between the pry bar is super useful too
Fun fact about the safety razors: the blades are so small that if you ever found a small slit in the wall next to your bathroom sink, it probably has a pile of these blades in the bottom of it. The thought was that the razors would never get to the slit before the house burned down, was condemned, or the original owner had long since died... and probably most of his heirs. They are very packaging and material efficient.
YES!! We demo'ed two bathrooms in my 100+ year old parents' house and found a pile of razor blades inside the wall in each. The medicine cabinets of old had slots for blade disposal. Now, I use an empty Advil bottle for mine. Don't put them in the trash!
@@incidentshappenfor my craft knife blades i 3d print sharps containers, its like 20 cents of material
@@incidentshappenYour parents are 100+? Impressive.
I'm a lady, and I also use a safety razor. Just, not on my face. Gotta be real careful around the ankles, but it's worth it to not have to keep buying expensive razor heads all the time. Also as an ecology degree having tree hugger, I appreciate not wasting loads of plastic and metal all the time. My travel razor still uses disposable heads, but I use that infinitely less so I'm not as concerned. My husband actually gave me his safety razor when he switched to a straight razor for his sensitive skin.
Been interested in traditional shaving for a long time, bought myself a cheap safety razor which i intend to use till it breaks then buy a more solid one but i have fairly sensetive skin and always thought that a straight razor would be more likely to irritate, so ive usually waved the idea away as a lovely, sustainable and aesthetic choice but probably not worth the cost and maintenance. Does your husband use a solid blade?
I tried a safety razor but my skin really can’t handle it. Never had that much bleeding or irritation. Tried it a few times and it never worked for me. :(
I love these episodes where Greg just gives his unfiltered opinions on everything for nearly an hour. Top tier content. Especially the panic industry stuff. Love it.
Same. Some of my favorite episodes, along with the history driven ones.
That barebones hori hori gardening knife has lasted me 3 years so far. I’ve used it for camping and gardening. I wouldn’t call it a disposable item.
Yeah, mine is great. Won't rust if you take care of it...
@1betterthanyou1 I think he was saying you're paying the 'tough guy tax' on a piece of equipment that should cost you a fraction of what this one is being sold at.
@@Ghonosyphlaids But your not. The hori hori costs 30 bucks and basically lasts longer than you will if you don't mistreat it. The cheapo spades Greg mentioned are 5 bucks or so a pop and last a few years before they break. If you actually are a gardener that would use that knife, it's well worth it. I ju8st assume the limit to Greg's gardening is mowing the lawn.
So glad to see you advocating for safety razors. I gave them a try 5-6 years ago and I’ve never looked back. So much cheaper and it just feels better.
I have the Gerber tool on my key ring. It's pretty useful at random times, but not often. Mostly as a sharp edge for cutting things like tape. Also, definitely a bottle opener and it works decently well.
As a sober HTD watcher (and a dude), I appreciated this video a lot.
I have the gardening knife and it’s perfect for my needs. My yard has a mega ton of trees so the soil is very rooty. So while definitely not for everyone, its nice multi tool for gardening or greenhouse stuff that’s more than perennials
"Tactical garden shovel" is an interesting name for an entrenching tool.
It's a classic Japanese tool, and we know how the Japanese are about designing tools...
@@SimuLord how much are surplus entrenching tools these day?
To be honest, finding out that it's really just a gardening tool made me more interested in it.
Ohh how's it hold up? I got more interested when he said it's a gardening tool and was wondering about the quality and handling
I love your work, Greg. Keep it up. I came to learn how I might craft my own cocktails, and I stayed for the delivery and commentary.
I love this so much! It's fun watching Greg and Meridith having so much fun. :D
As a photographer / videographer I find the Gerber Shard very useful. Having something always in your pocket that lets you tighten and remove tripod plates is amazing. The other uses are just a bonus.
I work for Wahl Clipper and I always like to see them represented. I'm glad to hear that you like it.
Be happy to do a sponsorship! I can demo how I cut my own hair
Got a cordless Wahl clipper ~ten years ago, and I have to agree that it's the best.
Also, mom got herself a hori hori knife when she took up gardening seriously so it has been seeing use for seven years. They're pretty well designed for what they do, so she uses it for a lot of gardening tasks.
My mom's been using a garden knife like that for fifteen years. She swears by it. When they started marketing them as a "survival knife" I laughed.
Well... if you think about it... it is a sort of survival knife and probably more useful for surviving that a "survival" knife.
Besides... when your fighting off cocaine bear or some thug intent on your demise, don't you want to know the depth of penetration?
@37:27 "It's a rugged box that must remain pristine"
That pretty much sums up all the "manly" "tactical" listicle stuff
A little self awareness never hurt anyone
I was skeptical about you having enough Old Fashioneds, and then the next minute happened. Kudos to Greg for recognizing his limits (and proving very entertaining when he's approached it).
Learning a lot about gregg. Getting teary-eyed from all the dad advice im getting 🥺 thank you
The last part with Greg's usual shave and haircut gear was a great bonus section; very useful
Not associated but can also heartedly recommend Wahl clippers. Had a set for nearly 10 years and they have been the only clippers I've tried that don't get chaught up on my super thick hair. Only thing that has failed on them is one of the guards had a prong break. Stuff is made well and will last if treated properly.
Last year's gift guide was probably my favorite video you've ever made and I'm EXTREMELY glad to see it return. Happy holidays and don't have an aneurysm, Greg & crew!
It’s really fun watching this show slowly get more and more manic as time progresses lol
Thanks for the info and fun stories Greg and Meredith! I'm definitely going to look at a safety razor after watching this!
I 100% agree with you on double edge razors, they're way cheaper in the long run and pretty easy to pick up. I will say that while feather is definitely the sharpest, if you have sensitive skin it might be better to go with a blade like derby extras since they're milder.
Yup. No matter what I do I can't use feathers without a lot of irritation.
I would personally recommend getting a sampler pack if you're just starting out to find out what works for your skin
I’ve been using the Secrid miniwallet for years now and I still like it. It has a sort of lever that brings the cards out so I’ve never had to drag the cards out myself.
And small wallets are a godsend when you wear women’s jeans.
I got one and my wife dug it so much she got one for herself too.
I love the Secrid wallets, i've had the slightly bigger Slim Wallet for a few years now and I love the pop-up functionality for the cards.
I've carried a Secrid for a few years now, love it.
I like this type of video, good change up! Wouldn’t mind seeing one every month, perhaps with a different theme each time. Happy holidays!
Big respect for your take on less waste and purchasing for longer terms of use. The older I get the more I want less waste and less stuff, but the stuff I have I want to be of quality and last as long as possible. I'm willing to put the maintainence into it to make it last that way too.
Regarding the shaving brush: there are great non-animal-based brush alternatives these days. I bought one in the early 2000s that was absolute garbage: shedding bristles constantly. In 2014, I found a synthetic brush on Amazon that I bought and it has performed great in the years since. No shed bristles, great lather, highly recommended.
Sure but why would you want to contribute more plastic into the world? Especially of this type size and shape (aka small fibers) that goes straight into the water supply usually
I love pine tar soap. Been using it for years, not Dr. Squatch but Old Grandad. The bar smells strong, but mild after using. My partner likes it so that's what matters
This is THE MOST dad-energy video I have ever watched in my life.
really loved this. id love a monthly episode like it
I got my barebones garden knife before it was cool...to use in gardening. It's actually really good, though not the sharpest. The weight helps with driving it into the ground. It doesn't rust, but I keep my garden tools oiled between uses. Spades aren't comparable. Hori hori (this type of garden knife) are super useful, so are the weeding sickles (though the sickles are disposable because you pound them into rocks!)
I'm late, I know, but thank you Greg. My husband got me the Dollar Shave Club (DSC) subscription for a couple of years, and I ended up with about six of those razer packs in reserve after we ended it because I'm not a "shave every three days" kind of female (mostly summer; have you ever experienced a Canadian prairie winter?). After your very astute comments about it, I'm now looking at the safety razor for myself. We're nearly plastic-free in the bathroom, and this is another step towards that goal.
I genuinely like this format, and would welcome seeing it it once a month/every six weeks/whatever schedule you want. I value and respect your honesty and integrity when it comes to the gift listicles and the sponsorships that were not to be.
That was lots of fun greg! I hope you keep this up as a miniseries. I agree with you on many of your opinions regarding buy for life and would love to see more. I was really hoping to see a fort Belvedere wallet but you should check out some of their stuff. High quality but pricey.
Soap Maker here (hobby, also not hippy) there are 2 types of "soap" cold and hot process. Hot process is much faster for end product, but more work stirring mash potatoes. Cold process is mix it and dump it, but longer to "cure" it also makes much smoother bars, and it is how you can also get fancy designs. As for the Natural oils part, think they are more getting at most "soap" you buy in a store is not soap. They are detergent bars made with a boatload of chemicals. That is why you tend to not actually see them listed as "SOAP" but wash, shower, or other things.. True Soap is made with oils, butters, and lye, then other addins. That is why for many people their skin is happier with Soap vs Detergent bars.
Of note, the reason why you’d go for a detergent as opposed to a soap has to do with allergies to soap, or having hard water- there are plenty of good reasons to go with alternatives over lye-water based soap. And yeah, real soap is made with lye. There’s no “chemicals bad natural good” when it comes to soap. Or anything, really.
@@TheMaddestHatter234 hold up, tell me more about detergents and hard water
@@cin3859 okay so a detergent is technically any surfactant that, when diluted, will clean a surface. That means soaps are, broadly speaking, a type of detergent. But in marketing, they’re usually contrasted between “soap” which is made with lye and water, and “detergents” which are any other surfactants. Now detergents (as a category) work by binding to both water and oils, one side of the molecule binds to water and one side binds to oil. But that’s not the only thing they can bind to. Hard water is water with (usually) calcium in it (or other ions). And the stuff in lye-water soap that makes it clean (sulfonate) likes binding to calcium more than the one in synthetic detergents. That’s a problem, because it means it’s *not* binding to the water or the dirt in it. So synthetic detergents are preferable for use in hard water because they don’t do that (as much).
And synthetic detergents can be altered to foam more or less, which is why you use detergent in washing machines and not soap. All the bubbles generated by soap would mess with the machine’s parts.
That knife at the start is actually fantastic for gardening, it's called a hori hori I think? Anyway, my mom bought me one for my birthday a few years back(because I garden) and it's far and away my favorite tool. It genuinely works great
Cool, I love gardening and knives. Does it cut sod well?
@@Tesrob I don't have that one from bespokepost specifically, but the one I have does a fine job on sod. It's not a razor sharp edge(on mine at least) but mines made out of good steel and I honed it a bit more just to help cut through thicker roots and such. My hori hori is made by a company called Truly Garden(I guess, never heard of them before) but it's really well made, has a full tang which I feel like is probably important with how hard you'll end up treating this kind of tool. My mother has a Nisaku hori that's a little cheaper, and she says it's held up great, as well
I just watched this and laughed so much. Please, I hope you do something similar this year
I love your videos so much, thank you for bringing so much serotonin in my life
Never would have guessed I'd learn such a useful knot on HTD. Also, gonna get me some of those carabiner, bb!
Dr. Squatch's branding and advertising is obnoxious, but I love the pine tar soap. The smell is strong out of the box, but after bathing it leaves a mellow, sweet, woodsy scent on the skin that lasts basically all day. I usually use that in the colder months and the aloe bar in the summer - it's perfect if you get a little too much sun and generally makes my skin feel great!
Did you try any of the other ones, or did you luck into finding one you liked on the first try?
@@matthewgoebel8785 I've tried a few others. Bay Rum is good, classic. Most of them were actually so mild scented I felt like they didn't have the same "perfuming" effect that I liked about pine tar.
While I'm here, word of warning if you get pine tar, the soap scum is VERY visible. It looks like black blood oozing down from the soap stand lol. Very metal 🤘
I'm sure it's fine soap, but soap isn't exactly hard to get right. Wouldn't you rather support your local hippy?
That was my favorite advice in this whole episode
Look forward to this every year. They are my favorites vids.
I love your holiday anti-hauls.
What I learned from this episode is that Greg is the kind of guy who knows about paracord and knots...
I've done a bit of dangling from paracord

Garden knives are actually really handy and helpful in the garden. I bought my wife one a few years ago and she really likes it and uses it a lot. Much better than a standard spade. More durable than a spade and more functional.
i LOVE that Meredith is cleary toasted as well. ah boy... the holidays!
I love it when Greg gives his unabashed thoughts on products from would be sponsors. Delicious stuff guys!
"I'm going to teach you guys a knot that's going to change your life"
Me: We doing taut line hitch or bowline?
Those are the two!
Absolutely love this episode! I would be down for a monthly "Greg's list" type of episode. Maybe a featured cocktail, and a chat about crappy and great products!
Also, what are your thoughts on notebooks and pens?
Never realized I would want or get shave advice from Greg but man am I glad I did
I love the Slice! Granted we have a much slimmer version that magnets to your fridge, but it's so sharp and lasts forever.
"Yeah it's pappy ya gotta water it down". I feel the wave of opinions coming. . . Run.
it's bait
Thanks for this, I thought this would be too off brand, but it was exactly what htd is. Thanks for staying genuine and showing us better options with lower carbon footprint and ethically better products!
Whenever I see ads for Ridge wallets, I always thought it would be hard to get the cards out. Good to know I was right. One of my fears of the grocery store is being too slow pulling out my money in line, so I always try to get a wallet where all my cards and money are easily accessible lol
my favourite time of the year! Uncle Greg keeping it real
Item 1, the Hori-hori knife is indeed a very useful tool for landscapers and vegetation biologists, but as with everything, execution matters.
Agreed!! I’ve worked in horticulture for a while now and getting a nice one was a game changer!
@1betterthanyou1 If you're expecting a tactical knife as he was, I can see how it would be a let down. I mark this one up to deceptive marketing.
I’ve been using Dr. Squatch soaps and shampoos for about two years now. Maybe I don’t know what I’m missing with other products but I’ve been very consistently happy with their products.
Just commenting to let the HTD team know I love the monthly "gear" episode idea.
So glad someone else uses a safety razor! Bought mine at the dollar store and never looked back. I want that shave cream puck though
Magpul Daka wallets are the way to go for slim wallets. Cards slide in and out easy, and it's some kind of tough polymer so it's flexible in your pocket and won't scratch any of your stuff up. I've had one for like 8 years, they hold up great and come in a couple different sizes and configs. highly recommend.
I use the Thread wallet. It's literally just two concentric elastic bands that hold everything in place. It doesn't scratch, its ultra-thin, and the flexibility and stretch make it really easy to get cards in and out while also keeping them secure. Plus, it can be hooked on a keychain or lanyard and only costs $15.
I have carried a Decadent Minimalist Titanium wallet for many years now, and I love it. So clean and minimal with a super satisfying easy to access card action. Definitely a conversation piece too.
ok about the “knife” at the beginning. if you have a packed garden and plant a lot of bulbs you actually do need one of those. they’re great for digging small, bulb-sized holes for your annuals!! i have used one and i adore it for gardening
I have a wallet that’s almost exactly like the ridge wallet and it took me a second to learn how to take the cards out. You’re supposed to push up on them through the cutout, then pull them about halfway out before pinching the bottom. The cards will fan out and you can grab them from there pretty easily.
It sounds like a lot but I’ve really enjoyed it
Merry fugging Christmas to you too, Greg!
My favorite wallet I've ever found is just a sheet of Tyvec folded into a traditional wallet form. It's been super durable over the years I've had it and given that the wallet itself is basically the thickness of a few sheets of paper, its only as thick as whatever you put in it.
Love the whole idea of an anti-gift guide. This is just gold.
I actually got a Gerber shard with a knife I bought from them once. It is primarily used to pick at my nails and cut tape on boxes by using the notch on the prybar part
Liked this episode, great to see EDC but for what's functional! Great to see someone who isn't completely sponsored. Do one with flasks... seems on brand and too many options. .Also still waiting on an Irish Whiskey episode ( as I live/imbibe in Ireland). Next up, best new years drinks?
Stoked to see you promote the safety razor life. Truly a better and some how cheaper shave. Razor emporium out of AZ has great stuff for anyone interested
Haha, the presentation of the garden shovel was so anticlimactic 😄
Greg out here preventing any of the sponsors for those products from spamming him lol
🎄🎄🍹🍹
“Happy Pappy New Year” is my new favorite
Best line I’ve heard all day “it’s like a CVS receipt”. YES! I hate those things, so many plastic trees die for each one.
LOL, Greg opening each bar of soap when they have an opening in the upper right corner to smell it thru was the best.
