This is one of the reasons I got my NC. I wanted to get a replacement for my motorcycle. The MX-5 is probable the best bang for buck you can ever get. It does really make you feel like you are one with the machine.

Exactly. I got this feeling too, as you don’t feel you and the car are independent. Same way as on motorcycle. And for sure, Miata is the best value for what you get today.

I bought my Miata because I miss riding but it’s far too dangerous to ride anymore. My big Dodge Ram truck seems to be invisible, what chance do I have on a motorcycle? But I love my ND Miata so much, I bought an NA for the track.

I have the same mx5 as the video but with black leather interior, I’ve had it since September this year and one of the reason for getting it was I will no longer ride a motorbike after I had a bad accident in one a few years ago, the mx5 is best best car I have owned and I have owned quite a lot of nice luxury cars, nothing compares to the drive of the mx5 you literally feel like you are on rails, I find the super sweet spot to be about 60mph you literally feel like the car is just flowing down the road 👌 best car for price I think you can get also I love the simplicity of the cabin no distractions just driving 👌

Great video! NCs, especially NC2s, seem currently VERY under-appreciated. This creates a great opportunity for people to get a great sports car at currently modest costs with easy maintenance and relatively cheap mods available.
I don’t think it will be too long before people start to realize what great cars the NC2s are, and their prices will start to go up. NC1s are also better than people realize; they’re just typically not quite as track ready as their NC2 siblings.
    Your video is nicely done.

OK, I had a NC with a PRHT and drove it for 8 years loving pretty much every mile. But June, I traded it in for a new ND2. Sacrilegious because I work for a used car company with 150 lots.
But the ND2 has 300 less pounds [got a rag top] and more HP which equals a bigger smile and more fun.
It is the only time that I bought just a newer version of the car that I already had - the MX-5 is just that good. Used car prices went through the roof and it was actually cheaper for me to buy new.
You can never go wrong with a MX-5.

It handles great, but up here in Maine we have some terrible roads because of severe winters. Because of the lowering done by the Progress springs I occasionally bottom out and it sounds awful. Even the highways through MA. and CT. are bad so I don't dare go on a long road trip. My son lives in NC. and the roads there are beautiful and I'm sure they are in GA. as well.

I totally support your thinking. Since 1990 I’ve owned a 1990 NA, 1999 NB, 2006 NC1, 2010 NC2, and 2020 ND2. We usually give our cars to people who need them when the time comes to get new ones. The ONLY cars I wished I would have kept are the NA and the NC2.
NAs just have something very intangibly special about them that is difficult to replace. The NC2s are oddly under-appreciated right now. My ND2 is different, but I wouldn’t say necessarily better as many reviewers have stated. It’s a great car, but so was the NC2.
NEs will no doubt be hybrid, so don’t give up your NCs! It won’t be long before people REALLy start to appreciate them.

If you have the choice between an NC1 and NC2, go for the latter and get if you can the limited slip differential. So many refinements and stronger parts. Very noticeable. @@SergeyVikultsev I can not tell any difference. I have read reports that the NC is more roomy but that's not my experience. I'm a big lad, very big for the MX5 but fit very well, so it was something I checked very carefully on test drives before I bought the ND. In fact, the NC has annoying cup holders in the door cards that dug into my legs - the ND doesn't. The NC does have a glove box whereas the ND doesn't, but all I ever kept in there was the manual anyway and in the ND that goes in the cubby behind the seats. The ND2 is much more lively but I'd say if I was being really critical that the steering 'feel' on the NC is better with its hydraulic power steering. The ND's electric steering rack is excellent though - it really is a tiny difference.
And of course the ND has equipment undreamed of in the NC, such as cruise control, reversing camera, heated seats, sat nav, auto wipers, lights, and headlight dip, little yellow warning lights in the door mirrors with beep if something is overtaking in your blind spot. keyless entry, engine stop (the restart does not use the starter motor - it fires the engine instead). So I went to the local Alfa Romeo / Fiat dealer for a test drive in the 124 Abarth. Not impressed by the heavy feeling clutch or the turbo lag from that 1.4L Multi Air engine. Next day went to the Mazda dealer for the 2016 Club test drive. What a difference. Instant throttle response & flat torque curve in every gear from the naturally aspirated 2.0L Skyactiv engine. The clutch was super light feeling exactly the way I like. Plus besides traction control there were No Nannies controlling the car ! No accident avoidance / no lane warning / just you the driver controlling the car ! I live in a 4 season climate & bought winter tires for when the snow falls. As a daily driver its been reliable & so much fun. Love this car. It tells you what is happening on the road by its feedback thru the steering wheel / the seat / the engine / the tires. One of the best descriptions of the MX-5 I’ve heard is…. “ You don’t so much drive a Miata, you wear it.”
Meaning, when you drive a car you are constantly reminded that you’re in something bigger than you that your surrounded by, sitting on, moving your butt down the road. Very rarely does the experience itself make you look at the process and smile.

The power retractable hardtop does not add 100 kilos. It adds less than 100lbs. The problem is that that weight is added up high in one of the worst spots it could possibly be. It also does not make the car stiffer. You are imagining that. Personally I feel the soft top looks better whether up or down. The PRHT has weird lines that don't fit the body.

Thank you! My bad about roof weight numbers. Also agree about weight position, lower the better.

@@SergeyVikultsev No big deal. The filming quality is very good, and your passion for the MX-5 is very justified. The nicest part of the hard top is probably just not having to weather proof spray it, and it should last the life of the car where as a soft top is usually done after 15 years.
The biggest downsides of the hard top are that it puts about 75lbs. (~35kilos) more up high, and without modification it can't be put up or down while moving. There's a module called a smartTOP that changes the top to moveable while driving, but it cost over $300 USD.
Still, the soft top can go up or down in under three seconds, and this can be done at, at least 80kph.

Sory but you cannot open or close the soft at 80 km/h. To much wind force. You can do it at 30-40 km/h and you need to know what are you doing. I have a 2007 nc soft top.

@@madmagcat7515 Sorry to bust your balls, but you are certainly wrong here. I have a NC3 soft top. I know it can do it at those speeds, because I have. Your arm is too short or your shoulder too weak. It works well otherwise. There's zero damage to the top at that confirmed speed.

I had a soft NC1 and now a hard top NC2. Mazda makes the best version of both in any class. The preference is up to you. Personally, the hard top is my favorite. Easier to take care of and I don’t have to worry about water leaking into the cabin. You can lower the soft top while moving but you CANNOT raise it while moving. Hard top you need to be parked in either case. The NC2 with the suspension package which I have is much better handling than the NC1 I had without. The hard top does not affect handling at all. I never get the hate that NC versions get. It is a great looking car and doesn’t have even close to the maintenance issues the NA or NB had and have.

Try getting used to shifting and then putting both hands back on the wheel. It will make you a better, safer driver.

The NC is the best. The ND exhaust is horrible and 37k for this car does not make sense. I bought a 2012 NC for 17k and compare it with an ND from a friend. Hydraulic steering is way better than the electric from the ND. Cup holders location and no glove compartment are nonsense features. Trunk capacity is bigger on the NC.

Short answer: no. Longer answer; if you like to properly drive, buy a NA, NB, ND. If you like to cruise in a convertible that is not too ugly and too floaty, buy a NC. Or a mini convertible, which is about the same thing.
