@@vulpix9210The ND is the ugliest one. The NCs rear looks wide and proportioned, the NDs rear looks like it has a flat ass, with the tail lights being too small and close together.
NC1 is the best looking Miata! The fender flare looks great, glad the car is getting attention. Just bought one, very fun. My favorite aspects are the "Advanced Keyless Entry" (AKE) system, fender flares, leather seats, and true convertible PRHT.
I prefer the NC2 taillights, but these are not bad. One thing to know for the buyers out there is that the NC2 and up have forged engine internals (2009 and up). Mazda didn't do this for reliability, but to make the engine smoother. Also, it is a little better is you go crazy and add a turbo to it. I personally own an NC2 and I think it is fine without a turbo. I do prefer the NC design to the later iterations, but I love my NC2. I did add a single exhaust, and while it doesn't look symmetrical, the sound is amazing.
Best miata ever. The NC. Great video. I found on the internet that people who sold their NC for an ND, are regretting this move and they want to go back to NC. The main factor is space and steering feel since the NC is hydraulic vs the ND is electric. also, the glove box, cup holders, and exhaust pipe on each side, are sportier than the double pipe on the right side of the ND. I have a 2012 NC GT True Red. this color is no longer available for the ND. Yes, the red soul is nice but true sports cars use flat colors.
I did exactly this for the reasons you’re saying - had an NC2, traded and eventually bought an ND, but have just sold the ND to buy an NC2 again because I missed it. The ND didn’t give me the same childish feeling every time I got into it somehow.
Can you talk more about the size difference between the two? I'm a bigger dude trying to decide between the two. Have driven an ND and was fine..is an NC more spacious? @@andrewbeckinsale1888
Hell yeah! I have one here in Australia...2006 NC1, 97K KMS. Absolutely brilliant drive... subtly modded with muffler delete, work emotion cr kai rims, adjustable coilovers and a Kenwood android auto head unit. It's absolutely brilliant. Thinking of getting a custom mid pipe made up to delete the mid resonator as well. Got a new roof on it as soon as I bought it about 8 months ago and it's fantastic. Came from a V8 Commodore 6speed, and this is a much more engagi drive.
Happy to hear you like the NC generation. For many years it has been the most hated Miata. I do prefer the NC2 with the more smiling face, but the NC is still a great sports car and maybe the one to get since NA are staring to skyrocket in price and NB are almost right behind it.
I've owned six Miatas, including three NC Miatas, all PRHT Premium models... 2010, then a 2012, and my current is a Sparkling Black 2011 Special Edition. I daily drive them and you can see from my user name I love them.
Hey hey, I don't care about any fancy stuff or infotainment. That Miata is perfect for what I'm looking for. That 6 speed, the cabin layout. That Miata is the definition of a light sports car.
Has there ever been a bad Miata? Not many cars reach icon status but I consider this to have made it. Similar to how the Mini Cooper and VW Beetle have done.
Mazda is one of the few makers that keep their designs consistent and not grow them until they’re unrecognizable. Not a fan of those double chamfer fender flares but I like the rest of it. I’ll see if Turo has one in stock for Labor Day.
Mazda are highly regarded as having the best handability in cars, so your not wrong about the curvy roads, but once you drive it with the top down on a long road you’ll fall in love with it instantly
PSA - If you have an NC, consider a red film kit for the taillights, the previous model owner of mine put this on and it covers the Altezza lights. It looks much better and makes it look like an NA on steroids imo
I agree with you. This is a much nicer iteration of the Miata compared to the ND. The Targa style C-pillars of the ND spoils the lines of a true convertible.
I have a 2008 PRHT in Copper Mica, with just under 28K kms on the clock. It is a terrific little car, but living in one of Canada's more "winter-laden" cities, I drive it only seven months out of the year (why kill the body with all the road salt?). I'm thinking of replacing the stock Bilsteins and coils (original!)vwith something from BBR (or Flyin' Miata or Goodwin Racing). I'd also like to get something like the BBR Stage One turbo (I know, naturally aspirated is great, but the induction noise from the kits sold by BBR--the 225--is god awful loud for use in a street car). I would round it out with some slightly wider wheels and tires and perhaps Willwood brakes... We'll see how the finances are looking next spring. Thank you for this review.
After driving all gens, the NA and the NC is my favourites. The NA just looks the mest imo and feels more "raw". The NC is the better car over all gens, feeling great to drive but it just does not have the same raw feeling as the NA.
I know, it's fun to drive and has many refinements over the NA/NB......but I just can't get past the styling. Of course, styling is subjective---some may like it. I think it's quite ugly, and I'd hate it every time I had to look at it
Just put if curiosity - what specifically do t you like about the design style? Like, is it the headlights, the rounded front shape, the intake that's not smiling, etc?

How much you pay for it?
Great review! the NC Miata is, in my opinion the best looking Miata, it's well proportioned and its lines make it look timeless.
While I disagree with you on it being the best miata gen I do agree that the nc is underrated
I disagree about the best looking part, in my opinion the ND perfected the look. But I do like the fact that it is arguably the most comfortable one.
For me, the NB and ND are the best looking. NA and NB are dead last, but NB can look way better with some mods.
