People hate the fact that it’s slightly bigger and more comfortable. Apparently you’re not allowed to want to sit in your car for 3 hours without breaking your back.
Have to admit, I wasn't a fan when it was released. I think folks were too busy focusing on what the NC wasn't, rather than what it is. Picking up my first NC, an Aurora Blue 20th anniversary one next week.
I test drove a 2012 mx5 with 77k miles yesterday and that was the most joy I’ve ever got from a car. I can see why people say it’s a “slow car fast” because I accelerated not even full throttle just up to 40mph and I was shocked I was only going that fast. I’m not gonna be able to get any sleep until I get one now 🤣
I bought a 2.0 litre one with the electric hard top recently and it's great fun to drive. It is cramped, but aside from that I absolutely love it. I can't help but smile when I'm cruising along with the roof down, enjoying what little sun we have left. I'm just trying to enjoy it while I can. It's a wonderful car. The heated seats keep me warm with the roof down.
I often think about how good this car was and the experience of driving it. Glad your enjoying it though and can’t wait to see what videos you do next with it!
I bought a 96 brand new. 286,000 miles later still no problem other than normal wear issues. No oil leaking or being consumed. I still love it as much as ever. Hope your experience is as rewarding as mine has been.
I've had a 2.0 PRHT niseko for just over a year as my daily. Still enjoy the drive, even in last weeks -10 weather. Ive only had 2 problems with mine, near side caliper sticking (replaced) and water getting into passenger side through a clip (silicon sorted that). Glad you find as much fun as i do driving it
I bought a blue 2.0 soft-top new in 2007 (aged 41 and working in the city) to replace a 2nd gen one that had been written off. Loved it, didn't know they weren't liked. Did long journeys as well as using it as an everyday car. Would happily have another. Main problem was it flooding when it rained when parked outside because the drains got clogged.
Hi, have myself an nc1 miata from 07 Great video for someone new to nc But i recall that its recommended that to always close the latch on the soft top before putting it down to prevent any damage on the soft top
I own an mx5 2l sport nc1 every year gets a service with mot so far it sailed through and 100% reliable. No issues with oil at all never needed to top up
I own one and all I can say is that it was meant to be fun. Not too comfortable, not too luxurious, not anything but fun. It makes a great first car and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Couldn't be any more satisfied with it. I'm not sure you can buy a more fun car for around 2.5 to 3k.
@@k.zohaib they are pretty reliable cars. As the usual, check for wear and tear, rust especially underneath, to drive well, have no rattles or clunks. On mine, the driver door doesn't always lock or unlock from the key fob, you have to use the key. Also has recently developed an exhaust leak and one of the break calipers is lazi and I hear it touching the disk or something. But given its a 2006 car, that alright. Nothing to be scared. Also, an opportunity to upgrade to a nicer exhaust
I was going to buy a 5 speed Miata a few years ago. It was pretty nice. Can’t remember what year the car was might’ve even been an ‘05. I contacted the guy on Facebook market place. Set up an appointment to see the car. Then the day before he said he changed his mind about selling it. If I liked it I would’ve bought it too. I’m here in New Jersey in the U.S. Over here the prices for any used car are out of this world now. I did get an ‘02 Honda Civic coupe 5 speed for a thousand though. Right before the pandemic stuff happened. It needed work but I’m doing it myself so I figured why not. Nice video. Stay safe out there.
Great to see you back on UA-cam Paynos and love these POV videos 👊 If you're thinking about doing a power upgrade, have you seen videos of BBR's 'Super 225' NC? Its an Individual Throttle Body package which makes the car sound so visceral for a 4 cylinder! It is a pricey upgrade for how much horsepower (+ torque) increase you get compared to a turbo kit but there might be some 2nd hand ones out for sale. Anyways, keep up the great work!
Thanks man! I've been eyeing up the BBR tuning options for ages, long before I bought one. The ITB kit sounds absolutely superb. Even the base map/intake/exhaust/cams unlocks a lot out of the car and makes it just right imo.
I have an NC1 with the PRHT and I believe it will be considered a classic in ten years. For the money you can't beat it for a used two-seater convertible. Fun,reliable and low cost of ownership. Remember, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow!
I absolutely love mine. Throw an induction kit and a sport exhaust on it and it comes alive, sounds like a genuine track machine and gives it a noticeable amount more punch. Mine should dyno at about 175 at the minute without an ECU tune. Looking forward to giving a little more love and seeing what i can do with it. Mind you they're just as fun stock !
I drive a gun metal grey 2014 MX 5 NC. A ten second car. It came out of the box race ready with Le Mans paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Every time I drive it I'm in a James Bond movie. When people see it they ask, 'does it have machine guns behind the fog lights?' The license plate reads 009. It's definitely licensed to kill. Does a 'drift' nicely. Q branch read out, race ready with paddle shifters. A ten second car, does 0 to 100 mph in ten seconds. Double wish bone suspension and drive while flat tires makes her a nimble cat with tough paws. The body is made of rust resistant steel and carbon fiber (Kevlar) material. It has quarter inch metal armor under the engine and transmission. Stainless steel exhaust. A seven speaker Boise sound system keeps the Bond theme music coming thru 5 by 5.
I accidentally just purchased a 1.8 on a 56 plate and whilst it uses a bit of oil ( priority to keep an eye on the level) it drives beautifully and I have never enjoyed driving so much. I do the school run and shopping just to drive it. I only paid £1700 and it’s fantastic

this is my fave NC Vid, can watch it over & over. I got to agree with you, prefer the look of NC2. However a good hardtop is quite pricey now. I plan to get a good one & keep it awhile
A Miata is the most fun you can have in a car without a woman. Seven years 68,000 miles. No problems so far except clogged rain drains in the cockpit. I keep it in a tent.
I have an NC2. Love the car but leaks and so much condensation in winter have driven me mad over time. I’ve done the third brake light and the cowls but for whatever reason, it’s impossible to keep the car free of condensation.
@@FatherandSonHavingFun 😂 tried that to pull out the water from the carpets and underlay. Was an improvement but took the under lay of the carpet being ripped out and replaced for the problem to go away.
@@Paynos 😂 yeah sadly age catches up with seals. Especially if the car hasn’t been well looked after. Mine took a fair bit of abuse in terms of its soft top having ingrained algae and stains on it. But otherwise it was rust free in the under carriage so that was a positive. In the end I came to the conclusion that the seals of the door/railings for the soft top were struggling to stop the moisture coming and promptly moved the car on.
they’re the best mx5s for taller people, but you might find you struggle with the clutch pedal if you’ve got long legs. Long torso and you can drop the seat brackets to lower ones if you need to as well
Using it with a hatclip whilst i'm wearing a baseball cap, and it's mounted under the brim. Definitely not exactly super comfortable, but does get good footage.

Now you might ask me why a MX5, well simple, in the past I owned many a 924 S2 Turbo 944 S2 Turbo 928s/S2 Porsche, I think the MX5 is probably as close as you can get to a modern equivalent, a modern Porsche is full of management chips and simply impractical to own unless your running one through your company, as I did. Yeah I know there is the Boxter, seriously, I am not a hairdresser and same can be said for the silky (SLK) Mercs
Such an amazing car ruined by that ford engine. The chassis feels amazing and ready to race but the engine feels like it came out of a budget 90's minivan.
