    the crazy thing about this episode is that it predates the Me Too movement. That kind of stuff wasn't talked of nearly as much back then

    I love Todd’s role in this episode because nobody is really concerned with Todd’s problems, even us as the viewer can just kind of tune him out, yet he’s the only one who cares about a genocide happening. Everyone in the show and us as a viewer are like “ok Todd get back to the actual issues like the famous guy being a sexual predator ”

    i remember the first time i watched this i wanted to wring mr peanutbutter's neck omfg. i hate when people say the "why you" argument because if everyone had that philosophy literally nothing would ever even touch these pieces of shit in power, and the cycle would continue forever. its such a selfish way of thinking to get all pissy at diane for being the one to speak up rather than getting pissed at hank for what he did to his assistants that required someone to speak up in the first place. this casual shit that people do of "wow thats horrible but im more uncomfortable with you taking sides than i am with the horrible act committed" UGHHHH

    30:10-30:46 you guys are spot on with this, like with probably most stuff at this point. I really have learned SO MUCH from you guys over the years. That said, I kind of feel like you guys did this with the whole veganism thing a few episodes ago. Especially as that is something you can directly change, and in the grand scheme of things relatively easily. Really does show exactly how apt this is as well. I Don't at all mean this to talk down to you guys, or be annoyingly corrective, just certainly something important to think about. And I hope you guys will consider it some more. It's a long shot, but if you guys (or anyone else reading this) have any more questions or considerations about this feel free to let me know. I can also redirect you to some other more comprehensive resources if you think it'd be helpful!

    So the Oscars thing, I'm not sure if its about race, experience, name recognition, ect directly.... I think it's about keeping as much audience as possible.
    If they didn't have at least one main stay white actor win something while the awards are being swept by a deserve cast/production film, it would cause a significant portion of the audience to simply hand wave the entire thing away as 'woke bs'. Not only would the Oscars lose its credibility with them, but the actors and staff who won other awards in association to that sweep would also lose all credibility in their wins.
    Sometimes things that seem blatantly bad, were done for reasons lined with good intent.

    Man some people really hate Mr. Peanutbutter for being worried about his wife and not wanted to lose his job, especially after said she wouldn't take this further. And I'm not even taking Peanutbutter 'side' here, I'm just saying it was a normal couple disagreement, because as a married couple, you're suppose to be a unit, but will naturally disagree on things. Similarly, some people say, "Mr. Peanutbutter was actually just as bad as Bojack the whole time," _he's not._
    I think the people who hate him this episode are probably young, because young people are in the stage when activism is the most important thing - and in some ways that good, not just shltting on young people (this also respresents their age difference well). But it's not like Diane had to do all the interviews, and then wanting to do more afterwards even though she knew it wouldn't do anything. Let me ask you this, what if Peanutbutter was fired? Would you act like he was just crazy? I think they found a good solution to take that job opportunity after talking it out. This worked out pretty well.

    • @seeleunit2000
      @seeleunit2000 Рік тому +3

      Mr. Peanut butter is no different than BoJack horseman, except he's slightly better at hiding his flaws, but they shine through very brightly.
      Like the fact that Mr. Peanut butter NEVER listens and constantly overstepped his boundaries with his wives and everyone else.
      And we all know that he Mr. Peanut butter didn't care that much about that job because in a few episodes he loses it and it didn't faze him, in the slightest.
      He's constantly fixated with keeping himself distracted and entertained at the detriment of everyone else.
      And if he got fired? The universe goes far and out of its way to make sure he still always has a job. This fake positivity is destructive and he's more fake than a three dollar bill.

    • @brandonchandlerMGnO
      @brandonchandlerMGnO Рік тому +9

      @@seeleunit2000 Bojack was indeed worst, he literally does worst stuff in the story, that's as close as you can get to factual, only thing that might balance it out is that Bojack might have intentionally help more people. But not liking someones flaws does not make them as bad. Because the shlt Bojack has done, it's not even close.

    • @brandonchandlerMGnO
      @brandonchandlerMGnO Рік тому +3

      @@seeleunit2000 And it's not "false positivity," he is just positive most of the time (most of you are just too negative to accept it). What if Diane got fired from her job because of Peanut, would you just say, well, it wasn't that important anyways? You're belittling what he wants, and that's ignoring how he doesn't want her to get attack as well.
      You're using a meta reason why his job doesn't matter, can you imagine if Diane was like, well you're a people's person so everything will work out for you if you lose your job.
      And Bojack listens, and then actively goes out of his way to hurt people. Plus, he was intentionally oblivious (or just oblivious) to Carolynn for the whole show.

    • @brandonchandlerMGnO
      @brandonchandlerMGnO Рік тому +2

      @@seeleunit2000 And the show is filled with Peanutbutter trying, but Diane can be difficult, he has episodes where he asks her directly what she wants and she barely has an answer, she really only gives the most direct answers when she's angry.
      And I Love Diane's character, I didn't get the hate, but people's one sided hatred to Mr. Peanutbutter, when he's genuinely nice (even Diane says so) makes me understand the hate a little more.
      Diane was just as much in the wrong this episode. Although we don't have to make this a point system of who was more wrong if people could just accept that they both had an understandable disagreement, that resolved pretty well.

    • @somestuff7876
      @somestuff7876 Рік тому +8

      Oh, I would never equate PB and BoJack. One is objectively worse. It's probably variation of "Skyler was as bad as Walter" deflection. Nope.
      I think this episode showed pretty well where each character was coming from and how multifaceted that place could be. The rest is biases.
      And I love Diane and I feel like she is overhated by casual viewers at the very least, so you kinda get overcorrection with hate for Mr. Peanutbutter.
      I won't budge with the whole "big gestures" issues, I'm very much on Diane's side in that regard. But in this case, I recognise that this is the type of situation where PB feelings and career concerns should have been opportunity to compromise for Diane and just not saying anything further on the matter.
      In the end, it just shows you that they both not willing to adjust the way they express themselves for benefit of their partner.

    My favorite thing about this episode is they never made it clear if he was actually guilty or not. Diane was fully sure he was guilty but it was all word of mouth. That doesnt necessarily mean it wasn't true, but we don't ever have solid proof either way. While there are some pretty obvious nods at thr political leanings of the writers through the series, points like this where it's heavily dependant on viewer interpretation are, in my opinion, where the show shines the most.

    • @xanecho
      @xanecho Рік тому +12

      The way he had one of his uncomfortable assistants call Diane to draw her out makes me lean towards him being at least a bad person to work for- we never know what the exact allegations are, but I think that's enough to prove that he does overstep with what he asks of his employees, but you're right that there's not enough to draw conclusions beyond that

    • @ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502

      Eh, this is one case where I really don't think it's up to Interpretation much. Yes, technically we don't have 100% conformation he did it, but the episode is so clearly pointing to it at every point that I don't think there's any real room for doubt.

    • @cadehartman2872
      @cadehartman2872 Рік тому +11

      @@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 Yeah, I agree. Everything within the episode points to Hank doing everything he was accused of. He didn't even attempt to deny anything when he met Diane in the garage, it was purely a stunt to intimidate her into being quiet.

    • @cadehartman2872
      @cadehartman2872 Рік тому +16

      I don't know, I don't believe that its meant to be up to interpretation. I think the episode makes it quite clear that he did everything he was accused of. He doesn't even make an effort to deny it when he meets Diane, it was purely a power move to intimidate her and let her know that he could ruin her. His assistant that we see next to him is clearly afraid of him, we know that he has buried allegations in the past based on everyone being unaware that he had previously been accused.
      Add in that he's meant to be obviously reminiscent of family friendly comedians like Bill Cosby who very plainly did everything that he was accused of and it seems clear that we are meant to believe Hank did it. When someone is accused by that many people it is safe to assume they aren't lying.
