6.2 seconds to 60 is actually really fast for its time. Also compared to the other classics Doug reviewed in Dubai, so far. I thought Doug would mention this in some way.
@@v_stands_for_value124 More like 4.5 seconds today. Many of the V8 muscle cars of the time could do 0-60 in the 6-7 second range. A Shelby Cobra 427, however, could do 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds in 1966.

One of the most beautiful cars ever made. Funny how you always point to things as odd or strange, but everything need the perspective of the initial design area. Unlabelled switches and buttons, check, you have the manual for that and the dealer to explain. The interior is amazingly beautiful. Keep driving the car and suddenly you’ll see all buttons and switches are exactly there where needed when driving. The back is perfectly done when seeing it from the right perspective. Building a car has an order. So the carpeting is pure logic and efficient. Filling up the holes with cushions is a great idea, for noise reduction. The fact you can take them out for convenience of space is genius. Air vents in the back? Brilliant. The speed when driving will create different air pressure between the interior and outside world thus sucking out ‘used air’ from the interior. And some other things,.....it’s just design 😁 Who cares the headrest only has two useable settings. When taking it out it is symmetrical. Design. This is one of the most most beautiful cars ever made. Sometimes one just has to drop the ego and ‘needed’ comfort. A car is made for emotions, driving, enjoyment, love.

ijl1i "This is amanda, i barrowed her from New Jersey, im gonna take her for a ride and give her a Doug Score, but first, lets look at her wierd quirks and features"
Yes indeed and even more so perhaps then the Tansim certainly from the outside but the tansim was more comfi and less quirky on the inside for the inside of this one has to many confusing buttons some even hidden that would drive anyone round the bend and this is why the previous owner ('probably a German') after having initially gone mad with frustration drew out a map to explain it for he does not want any phone calls from the buyer who would aske him on a weekly basis : hey what does this do or that do ?
Just imagine Doug, tall, loud American in shorts and t-shirt walking into Tomini Classics in Dubai 'Hello, I have a UA-cam Channel, let me borrow your FINEST MASERATI GHIBLI!'
Doug, I've watched many, many of your reviews, and I'm not sure I've seen you have as much pure driving pleasure as you got from the car. You've enjoyed other models, but something about the nostalgia, and sound and response and comfort from this car just seems like it was at the top. Just my reaction.
Actually the front quarter window opens in a way that would suck air from the inside to the outside. So between the interior air vents and those little windows you'd get a draught/draft so cigarette smoke was guided out of the cockpit. The rear vents are probably for air pressure balance when you close a door or the trunk while someone is sitting inside.
El Ciervo Inforrect. I've never seen a front window vent that opens in the other direction (probably because it's easier to seal that way). Opening the vent creates a low-pressure area which sucks air into the vehicle. The entire purpose of these vents was to bring in fresh, flowing air back when cars didn't have air conditioning. Also, air pressure balance when closing the trunk or door makes no sense, that's just not an issue.
They are called "cabin air re-circulation vents" all cars have them. Including one car called Jarama who has the vent opposite to the fuel filler cap on he left side.
Max Overtake you can find the same "gap" a lot of Ferraris and Alfa Romeos. It's design feature, not a build defect, and it's sad someone in the industry doesn't know that.
I don't recall ANY car from the 60's that had hazard lights, at least European. None of my father's FIATs had one....Anyway, I always enjoy your shows, keep up the good work!!!
In the early days olectric windows the mechanisms were not particularly reliable. As a backup, many manufacturers left the mechanical winding mechanisms intact, replacing the handle with a plug. Usually, a spare handle was provided in the tool kit so that if the electric mechanism failed, the owner could pop the plug, insert the handle and wind the window up. Not sure if this was the case with this particular car but it was certainly common. I suspect the they engineers just didn't decide to cover a hole with a plug.
Gorgeous car, truly beautiful, why oh why can't cars be designed like this anymore, the style and wow factor of this original ghibli knocks spots off any modern day maserati, or come to that pretty much any modern day car that springs to mind. Great review Doug I love seeing these old classics being driven, although some of those scores seem a bit harsh, 0-60 in 6.2 secs one of the fastest cars of its day and only deserves 3 of of 10 for acceleration?! Good job you weren't my examiner at college!
Another Doug score failure was giving the classic Ghibli styling a mere 8 out of 10! C'mon Doug...are you serious? If this doesn't earn a perfect 10, what the hell does?
I think when you do the scores, it would be best if you classified them by decade, so you would score them by their time standards and not from current standards Doug. It would be cool. Nonetheless, amazing car.
I am currently making a 3D model of this jewel of a car and you helped me out by doing a lot of close-up images on details and interior parts I could not find anywhere else :) Cheers :)

At the time Joe Walsh owned a Mazarati 5000gt, capable of around 162MPH, which would have shown higher on the speedometer, because marketing. Trip Odometer: that's how they all worked. My '82 Yamaha Seca does the same thing, as did my "81 Chevrolet Chevette. Gas tanks: My '83 GMC pickup worked the same way. My '75 Toyota Celica had a front-hinged hood. Lots of storage compartments behind the seats? My 260Z and Dodge Durango say hello. I guess what I'm trying to say is that If you put together all of the quirks and features...I've essentially owned a Mazarati Ghibli without ever having owned one. Oh, the "fake seats" classified the car as a 2+2, which meant the owner got a break on road taxes in most countries, as compared to a 2 seat car.
You forgot the oddest feature of all- the cable driven water pump. I'll let you all wonder about that. Drove my 1970 Ghibli from Bremerhaven to Monte Carlo in one day. Guzzled gas like crazy, steered like a Studebaker truck in city traffic , but was light as a feather at 130. Styling is a 10, one of the most beautiful cars ever built, too bad that one was in blue/blue, mine was red with cream leather interior.

Ya , and new maseratis turn signals probably snap off when you turn them on
Lol
I truly don't know how Doug stays alive, he literally NEVER takes a breath during an entire video...😅😅.
Doug the type of guy to give Doug scores to his tinder dates
ijl1i "This is amanda, i barrowed her from New Jersey, im gonna take her for a ride and give her a Doug Score, but first, lets look at her wierd quirks and features"
lmao
The other jokes were boring, but yours was excellent...
You mean grinder
Doug is the type of guy who uses second-hand audio equipment from 2004
Doug is the type of guy that still takes flintstone vitamins.

Shit dog I do too
You should make a club
I needed this today :)
I'm so over the "Doug the type of guy jokes" but this one is probably true,
Pop-up headlights.....um Douglas....60's and 70's Covettes come to mind long before any 80's trend....keep up the good work!
My 1975 Bricklin has pop up headlights too
Doug is the type of guy that runs out of signal fluid
Signal fluid leak.
Scott Reich (you mean blinker fluid? Thats what everyone else calls it.)
Scott Reich fail
stopaskingformyfullnamegoogle your mom failed!!
Scott Reich No, just you and your potential career as a comedian. 😂
Definitely one of the most beautiful Maseratis ever made.
Yes indeed and even more so perhaps then the Tansim certainly from the outside but the
tansim was more comfi and less quirky on the inside for the inside of this one has to many confusing buttons some even hidden that would drive anyone round the bend and this is why the previous owner ('probably a German') after having initially gone mad with frustration drew out a map to explain it for he does not want any phone calls from the buyer who would aske him on a weekly basis : hey what does this do or that do ?
Doug the type of guy to wear shorts and kneel on rough concrete in Dubai desert sun.
Styling deserves a perfect 10 on the hero score. That car is absolutely gorgeous.
? Lol?
It looks like any of those wannabe-stylish 80's tin-cans. Tapered anteater nose and of course those dopey ''pop up'' effect headlights. Ugh.
@@netweed09u have 0 taste.
Doug signaling right while turning left. A+ driving lol
Edit: around 16 min mark
But... does it have panel gaps big enough to fit a tube of toothpaste?
lol
which one was it again?
SpikeGT3000 Which one was *what* again?
which car/episode silly
SpikeGT3000 It was from when he reviewed a 2015 Ghibli S Q4 back in April 2017.
thank you kind sir
Now Doug needs to review the 1963 Stingray. One of the most classic vehicles ever made and it also had popup headlights.
Lotus had pop up headlights in 1962.
Doug is the type of guy who locks the bathroom door even when he's home alone.
badbirdkc I lock the bathroom door when I'm alone too lol 😂
Doug is the type of guy who still collects the toy prizes from cereal boxes.
Doug is the type of person to pour his milk before his cereal
Please make a DeTomaso Mangusta or Pantera video!!
... and Maserati Bora
YESSSSS!!!!!!
rear vent is to let the air to exit if you open the front quarter glass
Actually the front quarter window opens in a way that would suck air from the inside to the outside. So between the interior air vents and those little windows you'd get a draught/draft so cigarette smoke was guided out of the cockpit.
The rear vents are probably for air pressure balance when you close a door or the trunk while someone is sitting inside.
It’s for cigarette smoke because in the 70’s😅
To let air exit if you fart.
16:07 stopping in the area to turn left with the right turn signal on. alright alright alright

Doug back at it again with the quirks and features
Damn that is a good looking car
Time to start giving the follow car a walkie talkie Doug.
Or one of those Cell Phone thingies.
@8:02 The little tiny vent (when open) creates a bit of a vacuum and can be used to remove things like cigarette smoke.
They are called "cabin air re-circulation vents" all cars have them.
Including one car called Jarama who has the vent opposite to the fuel filler cap on he left side.
How about the TOOTHPASTE test?
modelllichtsysteme elaborate please?
Privileged Spawn Point Doug did a review on a maserati ghibli a newer one and he could fit a toothpaste tube in the panel gaps
Max Overtake you can find the same "gap" a lot of Ferraris and Alfa Romeos. It's design feature, not a build defect, and it's sad someone in the industry doesn't know that.
Arty Eet The design feauture is well known, but the main question is WHY this big panel gaps?..!..
Why is the right turning signal always on?
I don't recall ANY car from the 60's that had hazard lights, at least European. None of my father's FIATs had one....Anyway, I always enjoy your shows, keep up the good work!!!
Doug the type of guy to wear an undershirt beneath a t-shirt
Shawn you know he's one of those socks with sandals type guy as well.
Doug the type of guy to put his right signal and turn left. 16:07
And leaving it on forever!!!
It wasn't him driving
He SAYS it wasn't him driving
Lol yeah I don't buy that either.
Hahahahaha
The vent is probably for cigarette smoke
EqualVent my first thought as well
The vent helped defog the windshield. It also let you get some fresh air without messing up your hair.
They were phased out across the entire industry during the 70's.
thats surprisingly handy, i'd imagine a male or female who spent a lot of time doing their hair up wouldnt want it getting bullied by the wind
or pot and hash smoke....
U really r the best car reviewer on the UA-cam . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

cA mO rA really not
Joe Churchill . u should also mention why ?
cA mO rA because mr regular is the best.
Actually he isn't, Chris Harris, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Jaime Enrique Gabaldoni, I could go on...
Doug, you make my day better.
Doug turned 90 this week, as seen by the right turn signal being on from 15:39 and on
Gorgeous car, truly beautiful, why oh why can't cars be designed like this anymore, the style and wow factor of this original ghibli knocks spots off any modern day maserati, or come to that pretty much any modern day car that springs to mind. Great review Doug I love seeing these old classics being driven, although some of those scores seem a bit harsh, 0-60 in 6.2 secs one of the fastest cars of its day and only deserves 3 of of 10 for acceleration?! Good job you weren't my examiner at college!
Doug is incredibly miserly with acceleration points...I think only drag racers get better than a 5/10 from him.

I agree 100%
EFRANEED I was thinking this exact same thing when he was talking about the engine near the beginning
true
Easy way to fill car completely. Park in the middle of the lane between pumps and use two at the same time.
Some say... His blinker is still on and that he is sexually aroused by quirks and features. All we know, hes called Doug DeMuro.
IIdemonII
Top Gear Series 2 reference.
I was reading this normally and then I reached the "all we know, he's called.." and my inner voice suddenly changed to Jeremy Clarkson's :'D :'D :'D
The missing "is" after the word "know" really annoys my Grammar OCD. Even in Top Gear they said "All we know *is* ,...
He was....some kind of man....
IIdemonII That’s funny!
I am currently making a 3D model of this jewel of a car and you helped me out by doing a lot of close-up images on details and interior parts I could not find anywhere else :) Cheers :)
Maserati Ghibli came before Ghibli studio confirmed.

Doug: “yeah I signal right to go left. What are ya gonna do about it?!”
Who else had a deja vu when he talked about the trip odometer
Pablo Escobar some dirtbike odometers (and some motorcycles) do the same
Pablo Escobar Matilda right?
Yup he's done it before hahah
I was 4 years old when I first saw this car, thank you so much for letting me see it close up

there should be a dougscore specially made for classic cars... it seems a bit unjust to compare them with modern equivalent
benjicool2808 all cars should be rated on the same standaed . Plus the doug score shouldn't be taken too seriously
I never look back darling, it distracts from the now!
Reminds me of the espada i love them both
Doug the type of guy to indicate right when turning left
_Doug the type of guy who wears light up sketchers _
Random Alvaro LA Lights!
Light up sketches that only the right one works, and never stops blinking
Or shoes with a pump in the tounge, velcro, or the curly laces you dont have to tie
Random Alvaro i see you have used _ before and after your sentence. Were you trying to use italics?
no it is just to get attention
You forgot the oddest feature of all- the cable driven water pump. I'll let you all wonder about that. Drove my 1970 Ghibli from Bremerhaven to Monte Carlo in one day. Guzzled gas like crazy, steered like a Studebaker truck in city traffic , but was light as a feather at 130. Styling is a 10, one of the most beautiful cars ever built, too bad that one was in blue/blue, mine was red with cream leather interior.
