- We preview the eagerly awaited Salomon S-LAB Sense Ultra 5 and 8 Sets and we like what we see!
There are a number of excellent improvements including five size options, much lighter materials, a locking front cinch, new bottles and larger side pockets, and not much to not like. It's too early to make a comment on durability but, overall, this looks like a great release from Salomon.

Great review. Just what I was looking for in making my decision easier. Still have one question to be answered. I don’t know what size to purchase since there aren’t any stores right now in the area offering these models I am not able to try it on. I have to go the online ordering way. I am 5’ 10’’ (180 cm) and weigh 70 kg. Slim build and wear a Small in every clothes department. What could you recommend me? Would you say a S or an SX would be the best choice? Many thanks!!

not to sure about the updates, the old one had straps on the shoulder were you could store your sunglasses , the soft flasks look decent
Andrew Smith - cheers for the comments. Agreed on the old sunglasses strap - no weight and so useful.
I got one of these vests in the blue , blowing away by it , the material is so soft and smooth , so comfortable and the front pockets are great , the best hydration vest on the market
Which salomon packs allow you to use a water pack on your back with a drinking tube?
You could try to fit a 1L reservoir in the back but it's really not designed for it. We've tried one or two extra 500ml soft flasks in the back and this works ok. If you're after a Salomon pack designed to take bladders, the Salomon ADV Skin series is your best lighter / racing option.
Hi there, I've ordered the 8L version today... I'm only wandering about the additional water storage options with this pack - namely, will I be able to throw in the back pocket two hard or semi-hard 0.5 L plastic bottles (when needed), without too much bounce, just wandering
1-2 additional soft bottles in the back works fine and we suspect the hard bottles would be ok from a bouncing perspective as well, though might be a little less comfy? Happy trails.
i guess, just kind of silly to pack the 100$ worth of Salomon soft flasks, not to mention buying them :) just thinking about the options for that additional storage one sometimes needs
is the 8l stable when it isn't loaded in the back and with the bottles in the front?
It's a good question. The balance feels a little forward as it's designed for weight front and back, and you'll need to cinch the front clips tighter to hold the front bottles in place.
because i'm undecided between the 5l or the 8l..
Great review. Just wondering If I am currently using 2016 Advanced Skin size M/L, what size Sense Ultra should I order? M or L?
Hey Digi. The sizing for the old M/L was 38-43" chest, while the new sizing is M 38-40" and L 41-43" so it really depends on whether you were a small M/L or a large M/L previously. Always best to check in store if you can, and make sure it's not too tight empty as will only get tighter when you pack it. Good luck!
Thanks. Please note, Sense Ultra line doesn't replace the Advanced Skin product line. There will be Advanced Skin 2017 too, sizes will be the same as in the 2016 version.
