The new Salomon SLAB Sense Ultra 8 Set (and 5 Set) are some of my new favorite packs from one of my favorite pack manufacturers. The stretchy, accommodating materials are amazing and very few if any other brands are able to recreate the types of packs Salomon is putting out. This 8L is loaded with pockets and plenty of storage options. I love this thing. What do YOU think of the new SLAB Sense Ultra Sets?

Salomon is doing something with their packs very few other brands are able to create. Thin, hyperlight, stretchy materials make for a comfortable pack, but sometimes carrying more doesn't always work out. While I have really liked the Sense Ultra 8 Set, what do YOU think of the new packs from Salomon?

This is my "go to" pack. Extremely light and holds everything I need for most runs. The new bottles with the bigger mouth are awesome. I get plenty of ice in them out of my fridge as I'm loading up for the day. I generally carry 2 soft flasks in the front pockets and 1-2 in the rear kangaroo pocket if I'm going for a longer run. However, due to the bounciness, if I'm carrying anything heavier than that (like Ethan's camera equipment), I go with the UD AK 3.0 that day. I haven't had any wear issues, but I've only got about 400-500 miles on mine and I don't wash mine as often as Ethan has been in his testing. BTW, I'm 6'1" 225 lbs. and the XL fits me just fine.

I've been using the Sense Ultra 8 since early spring and I love it. Though, I have to say the stitching at the bottom of the large back compartment came undone recently. So if I drop anything in there it goes into the kangaroo pouch or on to the ground. With that being said Salomons customer service was great and I had a voucher to replace it within a few days that could be used for any pack. I asked how they preferred that I ship the old one back and they told me to keep as a spare. So I ordered the 12 set and the sense 8 sewn up. I would call that a win win.

I've run in the 2L version and love it. Loads of storage. Perfect vest for my mountain runs up to about 3.5 hours. At 90g or 3.1 oz, you kind of forget you're wearing it, which is a massive bonus.

Just finished a slow 10mile trail run with this pack and I loved it. There was a little bounce at the beginning and I tightened the pack halfway through after I drank half the water. Glad to have purchased it!

Solomon is an impressive company. I bought the s-lab advanced skin 5L last year and only used it in 3 races. One of the crucial side zippers quit working. With a quick email and proof of purchase, Solomon honored their 2 year warranty and allowed me to replace the pack with a credit to their website. I ordered the sense ultra set 2L as I don't really use the back pockets and wanted more breathability. What is awesome is Solomon allowed me to keep the original pack and it will come in handy for packing more heavily when I eventually get into UTMB 😂. They created a lifelong customer with that move. Total class. Thanks for your reviews Ginger!!

I've recently used the 2L for The Rut 50k and loved it. I could certainly see carrying heavier loads/more than just water, gels, light jacket weighing the larger capacity vests down and the stretch of them becoming an issue but for racing, the S-Lab 2 liter is amazing

Hey Ginger Runner, I use the Advance Skin 12. After I got over the price I paid for this ($175) pack, it soon proved worth the spend. This thing is phenomenal! Im a huge Salomon fan anyway so I knew it would be a high quality pack. I dont like the pole attachment idea they have with the strap twist idea. I had to watch UA-cam videos on how to attach poles and I still cant get it to work right. But besides that, I love it. Whats so amazing about it that you can have the thing packed pretty heavy and when you put it on its balanced perfect. Trust me as someone that carries heavy packs in the Army all the time, Salomon has this dialed in. Great pack, great brand....Ginger Runner..great channel!!

Thanks for the review, I've use the new soft flash a few times and I noticed an improvement the easy of which you can stash them. I do tend to prefer a water resivour if I can. Dominic

We're on the same page on this one. Love the fit and features. Accessibility to storage is unrivaled. But, the inside edge of the front "lapels" chafe me no matter what I'm wearing. (Tech tees are ruined, singlets draw blood.) The hard upper rim of the soft flasks rubbed all the way through the mesh meaning it's soft flask rubbing shirt. The same front pocket seam ripped on my pack, but I had a friend sew it back up. The elastics that hold the flasks up broke on both sides. I'm experimenting with a rubber band remedy because it's so impractical to be constantly fishing around for a drink when you need it. And, the cap to each flask also cracked where they meat the threads. I've worn it all summer, probably 160 hours, but I guess I expect more than a season out of "non-shoe" gear. Salomon DID take care of me with a warranty claim and I opted for the Adv Skin 12 Set and am much happier with its ability to hold more, and hold it better. Admittedly not as light and not as simple, and we'll see how it holds up over the longer term, but........ I think Salomon got really close to making the 8 Set just about perfect, but where it misses it misses big for me.

IMO, unless you really need the 8L, I think the 5L version is a better option. It keeps the load much more supported. You really have to fill it up to have that same feeling on the 8L version. And the fabric on these is designed to be so light and stretchy, that I'd avoid carrying stuff like phones or cameras in certain pockets, because they will bounce.

I've used this as my main pack for ultra's for the last 6 months and it's incredible. I've owned the previous iterations of this pack and the noticeable difference in weight is incredible. Just comparing details like the places seams gather at the underarm compared to previous incarnations, on the old generation packs they would sandwich all those layers together creating a lump of fabric. In the new ultra set it's like wearing another singlet with pockets. Unfortunately you cannot use a hydration bladder with these packs which limit's it's uses on a weekend long run but for ultra's with frequent enough aid station support it's the basis of your kit.

I've always had the problem of my Salomon zips oxidizing. I have to remember to coat it with a layer of Vaseline to prevent that. No problem with the UD packs though.

I JUST got this vest a week ago and have run twice in it. (Prior to this, I had the other vest that you held up early in the video!). My main complaint is stitching came out for me just like you mentioned, after ONE RUN (wtf?!). I do love the new bottles (AWESOME) and like you said, the lightness and comfort of it. I also notice the stretchiness becomes saggy after awhile, I had this issue with my old pack. I'm going to contact them about the stitching coming undone so soon, but I really do love this model and hope to use it in many more runs and races to come.

Compared to the Nathan Vaporkrar, which would you recommend?
