the most memorable drum clinics I ever got to see were Will Calhoun and Dom Famularo. Both changed drumming for me forever in different, yet equally profound ways.
What a fantastic interview. Will is a wealth of experience and information. A true musician and a first class guy. Rest is Peace Dom, another fantastic musician, educator and human being .
Calhooooooun..!! He’s the power-brother I’ve not met. He has such a powerful creative/mental posture and I really need to hear that! All my thanks! Funkrad
I watched the video of Will Calhoon when he played with the Buddy Rich orchestra. Then YT bought me here. What a superb man he is. What an inspiration. Such a sensible guy just like Neil Peart keen to learn more. It is so so true that we can keep doing research in to everything.
I fucking LOVE Wil! Man, I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Iridium in February for the Love of 48th street. He walked in and I was at the bar. He asked the bartender how he goes about getting a drink because he was playing that night. She directed him towards backstage...across the entire crowded venue. I said, "this is Wil Calhoun, get him whatever he wants, I got it." He was super cool and after the show was over I asked if I could get a picture with him. He said, "you bought me a drink right? You can have all the pics you want!" 😂 So humble and gracious and what a MONSTER behind the kit! 🙌🏻 The wisdom is befitting the talent and the soul he possesses.
FANTASTIC interview! OUR drum ambassador does it again! I love the concept of eliminating the conception of "styles". Very Bruce Lee in that aspect. It definitely lends to how he's able to blend all his knowledge into whatever he's playing while maintaining musicality and natural flow! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the content!!!!
Living Colour are and always will be one of the best bands ever! All that's left is an interview with someone I can truly call a friend, as well as a huge influence on my playing: Vernon Reid. Please make that happen :)
What a wonderful interview, watched all the way out here in Australia. Interesting that Will Calhoun ventured out here to meet the Aborigines etc, nice to hear. Good interviewer Dom, love his laugh. It is so important to be able to laugh & enjoy humour, music & the natural world. I witnessed Will in action 30 years ago in Brisbane with Living Colour, An inspiring performance from them. Calhoun is an into it guy indeed, very uplifting he is. Thanks ever so much to all involved. Cheers.
Dom, thanks so much for this experience. I am continually inspired, excited, and impressed by these interviews. I knew who Will Calhoun was, but I didn't know who he really was - and now I do - and I am grateful for it.
THIS is what I call a MINDBLOWING interview!!! HUGE drummer, a REAL adorable and lovely person!!! Thanks DOM!!! PS: it's wonderful if you can catch also Gavin Harrison! Cheers from Milan, Italy!
Beautiful human being. Incredible interview too. Great questions AND actually allowing Will to answer fully, without interruption and interjection from the host.
Haha. Thank you Dom. Will is a big influence along with Living Color. This was a lovely interview that bridged rhythmic, stylistic, history and culture to bring the best out of the occasion. Thanks Will, I've respected your efforts since Vivid and now consider all you draw influence from. This is gold. Cheers from Glenn in Australia.
Great interview Dom! Will inspires me to learn more deeply about the roots of drumming as I find the cultural reasons behind musical concepts so fascinating. What an experience it must have been for him to spend time amongst more remote musicians who bring such a human element to their music!
in the ending 80´s a friend say to me...man you got to listen this tune; it was "Love rare its an Ugly Head"....fu...g christ!! What a band. I have all records, and my favourite is Time´s Up. For far.
The vic firth will Calhoun signature stick was THE BEST stick l ever used - by far ! And when pro mark bought vic firth, they choose to discontinue THAT one stick. I *dispise* those little pricks for that.
I always liked Will Calhoun but now my respect for him is through the roof. Incredible interview.

The meaning of "protect yourself" in the begining of the video is really special. Amazing intervierw.
This is just a damn good conversation. So much depth in this guy. He never ceases to surprise me with his humbleness.
