    Light bulb moment. Very simple and the key is to move the club. What moves the club? Its not the legs or shoulders. Its the arms which is connected to the club by the hands. The arms and hands move the club. The club needs to be moved. Move the club. I agree-moving the arms while chest still. Great video.

    Thanks that all you do for the golfing community...a true culture of giving--may you be forever blessed. May I ask that your next project be looking into the Inside OTT (Miracle) swing. Christo Garcia at MSE golf has spotted something that's been hidden for many years due the industrialized mass coaching industry. I have shaved 3 shots off my index 11 to an 8 in 3 months and I'm absolutely pounding it out there 300yds with ease---doing something we were led to believe was a no no. Its so common sense and noticeable when you know what to look for. Bobby Jones, Snead, Hogan, Player et al all did it

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 роки тому +3

      I love the OTT stuff because Cristo has the balls to hold a mirror up to the current rhetoric and philosophy. I've messaged him and he asked me to email. I did, but never got a response. Think I went to his spam folder. So I just never bothered him again. I'd love to hear from him though. I've had OTT this whole time, lol.

    Excellent! So glad after ALL your hard work and commitment you have achieved the great swing you seem to personally love and feel confident in. Very happy for you, thanks for taking us on your journey! Quick question, is the lowest point of your circle directly below your sternum as Shawn Clement teaches?

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Russ! Good question. My response would be that there's a difference between where I'd "feel" the center and low point, and where it actually is. My feel is that my shoulders don't turn, but they CLEARLY do, lol. The true low point is the sternum.

  • @legend9018

    Great video and it is greatly appreciated. I feel your pursuit (and struggle) with trying to combine all those multiple feels and thoughts out there on UA-cam lol. I have definitely been in that boat and it can get ugly trying to juggle more than 1-2 thoughts or feels.
    The best way I have found to wrangle all those tips,
    positions and feels is to try and combine them into one large swing feel. It’s like thinking about everything and nothing at the same time. One big fluid sequenced feel is the best way for me to describe it.
    Sadly I hate to admit that some of my best rounds have been played when I was hung over, little to no sleep and out on an early tee time (and a few times with rental clubs). What I noticed on those rounds was that my head was clear of any specific swing thoughts because I was just too bad off physically to try to entertain any of them. I was just trying to get a nice fluid feel and played excellent. The only time my swing would ever really falter was when I noticed how well I was playing and in an effort to keep it going I began to creep into my old swing thought habits lol. Keep up the grind, I think that is what makes a golfer a golfer. It’s the pursuit of the almost unattainable goal. You grasp it for a moment, then it’s gone and you’re right back to the chase!

    Great video, you hit the nail on the head: golf can be simple if we just let our bodies do what they naturally do. It just needs intention, once we tell it what we want to do, I.e., swing the face of the club in a certain direction, it’ll do it most of the time. Unfortunately, most golfers are taught or told to control the swing and move it positions, which creates way too many mental thoughts, freezes the muscles and prevents freedom of movement. Every swing will be different and we all should use whatever 1 or 2 thoughts that allow us to swing freely with intention. Feel is not real, but once you get “your” feel, it’ll make your swing “real” to you, and that’s all that matters. Good luck with the new swing, now get out there and test it on the course.

    Congratulations! You've just articulated and demonstrated your very own golf swing method. Very solid. I love how you've referenced key components of different methods. And yes, you are correct that it is as simple as swinging the circle around you aand squaring the face through impact while allowing yourself to accommodate that motion. After all, that's what every swing method does. They're just based on the individual. Well put together and from the looks of it should serve you well on the course! @@GolfTestDummy I played this afternoon and tried your swing on a couple of holes where the fairways are wide and there is no trouble. Surprisingly I hit all the shots very well and straight. I would be interested to know your thoughts on ball position and do you vary the width of your stance at all.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 роки тому +1

      This is a good one. Thanks for asking. With ball position, I'm thinking about 2 things really; Trajectory and low point of my circle. The low point is in front of the ball on the turf, and either at or just before the ball with driver. So when I setup, I set my left shoulder ahead of the ball with a ball on turf, and at the ball with driver. I get that wide stance, which can vary a but based on the intensity of my swing, and I anchor my left shoulder. Tension in the arms, elbows, and wrists will ruin the shot.

    I have to comment on your 10 finger grip. When I started golfing I used this grip simply because I never knew there was a different one. One day, while playing with a group of better players, one of them told me I’d never get better with “that grip.” Wanting to get better, I developed what I feel, and a few have told me, was a very good Vardon grip. Every now and then when I was struggling I would go back and hit a few with the old 10 finger, on the range, and immediately made better contact. I figured maybe at some point as I aged I would have fall back to this grip. Well I’m there…..and the 10 finger feels terrible. I have some pain in my fingers and I sure using it would help me but the feel I developed over the years won’t let me. Surprised you transitioned so easily.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 роки тому +1

      I can relate to that, but not in that order, haha. I started with the interlock Vardon. Of course that felt completely alien, but then again, all of golf at that point was alien. Over time, my fingers were killing me with pain, so I swapped to an overlap. Played that way for years and pretty much developed "golfer's pinky", haha. Switching to 10 fingers was weird at first, but a lot of pain went away, not only in my fingers, but in my troublesome right wrist as well. The wrist pain will never go away, but it isn't as big an issue.

    What is impressive. in this swing is the wideness of his swing arc. This is due to his long arms and the position of the hands at the top of the backswing: HIGH. and DEEP, above his head and over his heels. Most amatuers have shorter arms, a much smaller arc, the hands are below the head and over the toes at the end of the backswing. You can't know this unless you video your swing

    I played 9 holes this afternoon even though it was a bit chilly, 13 C/55 F, as it is late autumn in the South Island of NZ, with a cool easterly wind off the pacific ocean. I used the swing you demonstrated in your latest video and it was effortless. I scored 3 over par (39) and all 3 bogeys were due to going into greenside bunkers. I hit 6 out of 7 fairways and 6 out of 9 greens. The majority of my shots were straight, even with the driver, and it felt so easy. My only swing thought was to trace a circle during the swing. Bearing in mind I have never practiced with this swing I am thrilled with the results - I am extremely grateful.

    • @georgehadley7863
      @georgehadley7863 2 роки тому

      @@GolfTestDummy That's correct, all three bunkers were on the left side of the green. I put the pulled shots down to swinging too hard on those shots. I should also mention that regarding distance I was hitting the ball virtually the same length as I normally do, however I was more consistent with my ball striking. FYI I played the ball in the centre of my stance for the iron shots and half way between centre and my left heel for the driver. The only fairway that I missed was when I tried playing the driver off my left heel and I hit a fade/slice to the right which missed the fairway by 5 yards.

    However, after having watched the whole video and reading through all the comments (as of me posting this), I will say the THWACK! alone tells the tale of very solid compression at impact. Well I think my guess was dead on the first time that you told me about the new swing. You have succeeded in counterbalancing all or most of the old flaws (which are all still there) by turning less each way and taking huge advantage of the hooding of your upper body for a covering effect and essentially hitting through the ball more. Less turn relative to the arm swing means less ground to "make up" in order to cover the ball (possibly more chest hooding going on then before) and square the face well. It's very far from textbook or even from the swings of the proponents of any of the systems that you invoked but it seems to work. I'd like to see long iron, 3-wood and driver numbers for it since I'd be curious in particular if your driver and 3-wood numbers improved.
    There are some weird numbers coming off of the Garmin though (that's not new to this week), on one 8-iron swing 4390 spin, 111.8 ball speed off of 70.8 clubhead speed, giving 1.58 smash (should be impossible even for a driver). The 8-iron averages for the PGA tour are clubhead speed 87, ball speed 115, spin 7998, and smash of 1.32 (much more realistic for an 8-iron). So I'd like to get a sense of how this is really performing on a range or course or with a more accurate monitor but of course you can sense if you're hitting it better so, so far so good. Cheers.

      Yeah, the fact that I involved multiple philosophies means that I'm not adhering to any of them, lol. Driver is longer. In the sim, it's up a few mph, and on courses yesterday, up about 12 to 15 yards on average. Had a few 8 irons on course. Both in the 165 range. 2 6 irons, 1 wasn't struck very well and was about 170 and lowww. The other 192 with no roll because it landed in a patch of fairway that was under repair. Definitely not perfect yet, and not automatic. More work to do. And on course, my effort levels were just too high.

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 2 роки тому +1

      @@GolfTestDummy Well 165 yard 8-iron and 192 6-iron are nothing to sneeze at especially if reasonably straight and consistent and neither is 15 yards give or take on your driver. A lot of players would kill for those results if it's with normal lofts.
      You sound a little disappointed though. I'm guessing there was more effort than previously or did you just have expectations of effort levels going down significantly? What was causing so much effort?
      Funny thing about what the Garmin is reading. I checked what it measures directly and speeds for both clubhead and ball are included and then it's a simple calculation of smash. But the smash doesn't compute at all for the 8-iron numbers (or probably any club) so I'm trying to figure that one out. And then it sounds like distances were not massively different on the course from the sim so I'm not sure how that works but at least however it's getting the numbers, they don't seem too off. Cheers.

      The Garmin does have anamolies from time to time. Sometimes it says my driver clubhead speed is 82 lol. It's not often, but occasionally. Spin rates are calculated, not measured, so I never trust the spin rate.

  • @johnmurphy4546

    Just curious do you still use Garmin for your simulator? If so how accurate do you believe the data is ?

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 роки тому

      I do, yes, and with it, I have learned what to pay attention to, and what to ignore, lol. Spin? Forget that. It calculates spin, it doesn't actually measure it. I watch ball speed and trajectory. Club head speed is pretty reliable, but I've caught it lying here and there. My average driver speed is about 95 and occasionally it'll read my speed at 82 or 84. This kind of stuff leads to inaccurate smash factor also sometimes, but not often. On course the other day, I was able to confirm some true yardages, which weren't far off. A few yards give or take. I track reality with Golfpad. Hit some 185 to 195 6 irons, 165 plus 8 irons, 250 plus drives.

    It's your swing own it get out of your own way. You may just focus on level decending blow with irons on your arc in the sweet spot. Good luck with the driver it's all I can do is finish the arc but toe open or closed is easy ,catching it level is a whole different ballgame.You don't hear much about toe up or down but open or closed is pretty easy stuff.

    Great stuff! It appears you are keeping your arms straight and just slinging that club through, then the rest of your body is responding.
    I know you are not thinking of the consciously but when do you fell like stopping the backswing? It seems that you are not too worried about getting the back to the target, which most instructors stress, but if you over swing do it seems to zap power. Asking for a friend...

    Hi Chad you are doing coincidentally what Lee Comeaux Golf of C motion fame recently calls his lead side dominant swing with a reactive trail side. In his own words he could care less what his trail side is doing.
    As for myself I prefer to care a lot about my trail side pushing me through my golf downswing and I could care less what my lead side pulling reactions are doing.
    So you see we both have equally successful swing but clearly opposite of the other. Why? Because our human brain can either detect a pull or a push; but never both at the same time. Cheers 👍😃⛳️❤️🥂

    I think you have officially broke the code. It’s time to start advising on UA-cam to sell a $49 dvd and a $9 monthly subscription. Jokes aside, are you trying to make a circle with your arm, hands Or the club? Are you paying attention at all on the low point? U say u are swinging your left arm, so ur right arm are just on there for the ride? How strong or weak is your grip? Same great result with the 3w off the deck or driver?

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 роки тому

      Great questions. Just to be clear though, I don't think I'll be making DVDs, lol. I just ask that you watch and interact. My left shoulder gives me ball position for now. Low point is absolute key. It governs everything. I'm feeling my circle during setup, over and over, and place the low point. When I make my circle, the swing is built so that I can think of my arm, hand, club, or club head. Since my arm, shaft, and club head are on a straight line, it doesn't matter what I focus on, so it gives flexibility in what I draw the circle with.
