  • Welcome back spartans! In todays video I would Like to show my love for the spartan laser! I miss this gun so much and with a few tweaks and modifications I think it would blend in very well with Halo Infinites sandbox! Its a great weapon that was super brutal and fun to use. Please let me know what yall think about it and if you would like to see it added to infinite in the future!

      yeah the skewer is dope. I do want it to have more of a physics effect though. If I hit a warthog with it i want it to spin it around or make it flip in the air

    after a long thought no.... 343 doesnt know how to balance so i dont think i would want the splaser its fun but i think the skewer is more blanaced and doesnt upset btb players like the splaser did

      The desync from getting hi-jacked got me rolling. Once I got so screwed up I ended up under the map of the desert 4v4 map with the snipers and vehicle spawns. And found myself trying to walk around and find a way to kill myself.

    I disagree. Playing only Halo 3 and Reach on MCC, I can safely say it kind of ruins vehicle gameplay. You’re basically wasting your vehicles if you step one pinky toe out of cover when it’s on the field. In BTB Heavies in Halo 3, there are often multiple lasers per map (Avalanche has like, 3)
    Way too easy to use.
    Plus, the anti vehicle, high damage, slow fire rate weapon roll is already filled by both the rockets and skewer- both of which take more skill to hit a moving target.
    IF it is added, keep it campaign and customs ONLY. Even then, it should probably become a weapon that’s a solid, continuous beam (kind of like the Spartan Attack Synonym game versions, which function more as a Sentinel Beam).
    Maybe it could be like the Inferno Tower in Clash Royale. The longer it fires, the more damage it does. Rockets still feel super redundant in comparison.
    Splaser could also be reworked to do way less damage, but have more charges. Say it takes, 10% charge but takes 2 shots to kill a Warthog. That way, vehicles have an actual chance to retaliate.
    I’d still prefer it maintain a solid, continuous beam over a quick one, though.

      I like the laser. without it, heavy vehicles dominate the map every time. vehicles should have to depend on infantry support to stay active. when lasers arent on the map, a skilled pilot or driver is rarely killed by infantry unless they get close enough to throw down a power drain or catch a lucky rocket from across the map, neither of which should ever happen if the driver is fairly competent and maintains a good awareness of their environment. the laser makes it so vehicles cant just steamroll everything, they cant make risky advances as often without putting themselves at risk of being picked off. vehicles aren't just good at fighting either, they're great at enforcing map control, and the laser is really the only thing that can put a check on that. while the laser is up, vehicles are forced to be cautious with advancing into enemy controlled territory rather than having free reign to barrel back and forth across the map racking up multikills on fresh spawns carrying only frag grenades and a BR

      its frustrating to be on a hot streak and then get blown apart by a laser but if you're experienced enough to know when the laser spawns you can always avoid it by backing off and playing cautiously until the rest of your team on foot either kills the enemy player who has the laser or puts enough pressure on them that they are forced to exhaust its charges on infantry targets. however on the flipside once vehicles begin to dominate the map theres nothing you can do about that other than accept your fate of being repeatedly respawned away from teammates and power weapons and killed over and over until the match timer reaches 0

    Skewers are far more balanced for anti-vehicle than the splaser. Nothing is worse than having a full hog only to get melted immediately by some guy who was charging the laser behind a rock

      Yeah like I said I'd like for some changes to be made to it for sure. I think it could be done. Longer charge up time and a longer cool down time would be great changes. Also making it a two shot weapon unless the laser hits a critical point on the vehicle would be a cool mechanic as well

    Watching this I was thinking what my ideal anti-vehicle weapon would be.
    To distinguish it from the rocket launcher it should have a faster projectile, greater physical force, more shots between reloading, and less damage to try to encourage smarter use.
    And that already exists as the rail gun, fuel rod gun, and, my personal favorite, the Brute Shot.
    Halo Reach's plasma launcher also has a neat niche with its charge shot and plasma grenade style explosive.

    343 needs to bring old weapons back even if they overlap in functions with the current sandbox. Despite redundancy in functions it would still give players more options in terms of weapon feel. Example being the carbine and battle rifle almost serve the same purpose but feel different from one another. I could never wrap my head around people complaining about redundancy when the weapons still feel like they're different from each other. All it would do is give people more options and the game extra fun factor (which 343 doesn't understand)

    I appreciate the machinma style intros to the video but this one is just over half the video, not saying to stop doing them, it's a great addition to your channel, but some people might think you're never gonna get to the point and click off if they're too long
    that being said I fully agree a nerfed version of the lazer like you suggested with longer cooldown and charge-up could balance it for Halo. I think the bigger issue is that vehicles in Infinite are severely underpowered right now and the last thing they need is more anti-vehicle weapons being added. vehicles in infinite already have to deal with the most anti-vehicle sandbox halo has ever seen!

And yeah the machinima sections are by far my favorite part but yes I agree people may click off so I'll have to find a way to shorten the structure of the machinima sections. I'm learning a lot throughout all of this so I appreciate any advice you have to give! Also the skewer is great but it would be cool if we had the splaser back. Maybe make it a two shot weapon if the laser doesn't hit a critical part of a vehicle. (The engine of a warthog)
      I am happy with the update that came out today for August that buffed the warthog health. I see things slowly coming together for this title. It's just gonna take awhile. Thanks again for watching and I'll see you on the next one!

    My first video ever on UA-cam was a Spartan Laser montage. A friend helped me make a montage of my kills to celebrate 18,000 of them. Bungie noticed and put on their website. I wasn't and still am not the greatest player. But I felt like a I had a place in the team using the laser conservatively and to the greatest effect. Infinite's BTB just feels like everyone running around and there isn't a great beta for to play the maps

    The spartan laser was about as much fun as a Gauss hog. Really great when you control it but in the hands of the enemy team you might as well just put the controller down and wait for the next match

      Yeah but you had to fight for those. You didn’t just have them at the start of a match. Either both teams had one of each at their base or they were in the center of the map. That’s how Halo works. You fight for highly contested areas and are rewarded for knowing the map.

      @@gabethebabe3337 yes both teams had equal access to a gauss hog at each base and one splaser in the middle but those weapons are so unbalanced it’s really just one sided. Any BTB heavies match on stand-off is essentially decided by who loses their gauss hog first. If the enemy team wins the initial encounter and destroys your hog then you spend the rest of the game spawn trapped while the enemy gauss rain death down on your team and destroys your gauss hog as soon as it spawns again for good measure.
      The splaser on Valhalla is essentially the same way. The enemy grabs it first and uses it to blow your wraith and scorpion, which pretty much screws you for the next 2 minutes while you wait for them to respawn. In the meantime the enemy tanks can set up and start shelling your base from across the map. Scorpion can easily deal with any hog or banshee you try to launch at that point (and most likely will instantly destroy your tank as soon as it spawns). But there’s also the guy with the splaser on the hill who still has 8 shots left who can just as easily tag any player or vehicle the scorpion missed with minimal risk to themself and with no range drop off like the skewer

    I personally like the laser, regardless of what people say, I been in to many matches where there was a laser and vehicle still dominated, especially when it comes to the tanks when they can just one hit kill, usually people get a good 8-10 kills if not more with the tanks alone, the laser did a good job balancing that, I feel like people are mad bc there a weapon that can keeps them from dominating the game

    I think there are too many anti vehicle weapons and too many emp effects in infinite. I would love to see the spartan laser come back one day, it's one of my favorite weapons in Halo.

      It could absolutely be done right. Long charge up and cool down times. Two shot kills instead of one shot kills. The gun can become hard to stabilize while it's charging up making it require more skill to aim. All kinds of things could be done to make it fit well into the sandbox. I'd like to see it again.     It's literally my favorite weapon in the series, but given 343i's mission to avoid "sandbox redundancy" I can imagine it coming back with different mechanics, perhaps functioning like a H5 Binary Rifle

      Yeah I agree the splaser needs some big adjustments if it's ever added back. Being a one shot weapon the charge up should be loud to alert all the players around and the charge up should be long to allow players to avoid it easier. And maybe only put one of them on the map for teams to fight over. Fighting for that advantage against the enemies vehicles would add a cool dynamic. Thanks for watching!

    The splazer was removed specifically because it didn’t fit in the sandbox well and ruined the vehicle part of the sandbox.
    Your proposed solution of extending the charge up time would not solve anything. The meta with the splazer was to aim at a wall/ground and then in the last second of the charge up quickly change to aim at your intended target. When used properly there was 0 warning for players to notice and avoid the income laser. Increasing the charge time doesn’t change this in any way.

    I don't think anything has to change besides where it shows up. It's a great 4v4 weapon, like a railgun with a bit more depth. My opinions the same with the skewer.
    They both have the same problem in BTB where it's not that difficult or engaging to use. You can take out vehicles without actually getting in a fight with them. Less damage didn't solve that

    The skewer isn’t strong enough. It takes multiple shots to take out a warthog and 4 shots to take out a scorpion.

    This video makes me wonder if you've seen Ascend Hyperion's video on this gun. I would only want it back if it took more than one shot to kill vehicles, and its charge up beam was brighter (not obnoxiously so though, it's fun frying someone who wasn't paying attention to being tagged by it). Otherwise, it just ends up with the same flaw the original Spartan Laser had where it became an "anti-fun" weapon.

      How about make it one-shot but only if you keep the targeting beam on target which now does some damage prior to the large death ray, but consequently now takes some charge.

    Hey Great Video as usual. my only sort of problem with it was that the intro was half the video, but it was a really good intro though. I agree with your skewer take, disagree with your Splaser take. the laser immediately stops people having fun in vehicles. The charge up means people just hide in front of a wall before firing making an instant kill anyway, which just isn't that fun for the player getting shot at. every time I just see someone pop out and glaze my armor in red laser juice. and no amount of balancing the reload time is going to change everyone's fun abruptly ending whenever Its on the field. Enjoyed the vid tho, it was very good.

    The splaser is cool, and I would support it coming to forge so it can be used in customs, but imo it is too overpowered for matchmaking. Infinite’s vehicles are already weak as it is, they don’t need yet another counter.
    The ultimate problem with the splaser is that, unlike the skewer, it’s, well, a laser. Instant projectile hitscan and unlimited range without distance drip off is a big problem with it. Making the charge and cooldown times longer doesn’t solve the issues that are fundamental to a hitscan laser weapon.

      Can easily make it a two shot weapon as well. It could also become harder and harder to keep steady as you charge it up making aiming more skillful. It could be done pretty easily with some adjustments.

    I do love and miss the Spartan Laser. But yeah it was as annoying and poorly balanced as the Gauss-hog. In campaign 100% should be brought back, but as for multiplayer, as is it's redundant, especially since nearly 3/5 of the current sandbox in Infinite can already roast vehicles. With changes I think it could work, like have it do half it's burst damage while charging so there's less incentive to pre-charge and then peek out of cover and more emphasis on target tracking.
    Also I'd like to see the special variants of weapons like the rocket launcher with seeking rockets spawn on maps other than the Vaults on Behemoth, so stupid only 1 map has those appear.
    I liked the video, the intro was especially entertaining.

    The Splaser could definitely fit within Infinite alongside the skewer, but I think the btb maps would just not compliment it at all. The current maps are far too claustrophobic and not nearly as open as they need to be for the laser to work. We need a sandtrap or blood gulch type map for the laser to shine. Pun intended

      @@MR.AlIEN8ED absolutely. Perhaps make the one shot location trigger the doomsday counter for balancing purposes and have the second shot finish it off. Especially for aircraft since its kinda hard to dodge a laser in the air

    The Skewer solves the problem of the Spartan Laser being a "Do it all" weapon that can easily hitscan snipe both Spartans and heavy vehicles with ease from far ranges with a generous hitbox. The Skewer closes the gap by tightening its skill range thanks to its projectile drop and speed.
    This is a direct downgrade - but for good reason. The Spartan laser was simply too good for general gameplay and practically ruined BTB in many instances. Meanwhile, the Skewer blends in seamlessly with gameplay no different from that of a sniper rifle, and its presence on the field doesn't entirely mean the eradication of vehicles for the enemy team.
    That said, I wouldn't be opposed to a higher tier of weapons. Much like how the powerful vault weapons don't exactly have their own category, I wouldn't mind seeing a Spartan Laser be valued the same way as it's own thing, rather than lumped with the other power weapons that wouldn't quite match the laser's potential.

    Hmm, I really like the skewer and it already fills that niche. Considering all of Infinites problems the splaser is at the bottom of the list for wants for the game. Honestly if it was in the game I would want to stay out of normal matchmaking

    No, thanks. Spartan laser is just broken, the Skewer is more fun AND more balanced.
    I love that it simply launches a massive metal spike.
    Sure, being projectile-based may cause issues with how the netcode is, but the solution should be to fix the netcode, not dance around it.
    Meanwhile, there's no way to balance a gun that one-shots literally everything from grunts to tanks. You could make it take longer to charge, but so what? You already only use it if you have the time to begin with.
    Now, what I would like back is the fuel rod.

    No, the laser never needs to return. It's a badass gun but it's called "the fun killer" for a reason. "Got a tank? fuck you. Got literally anything? Fuck you. Except the Halo Reach wraith, fuck your gun, you can still drive the vehicle but it cant shoot anymore"

    The Splaser would annihilate the already pretty useless vehicle sandbox of infinite.
    Its already cheesy and OP in H3. If you havent experienced peak jumping scorpions with the Splaser then you just havent played the game. Literally NO possible counter play, just a free vehicle kill.
    And after that you still have ammo to wipe the rest of the enemy teams vehicle roster.. Single handed.
    Like legit just go onto an 8v8 Valhalla and apply some neurons to jump peeking people with the Splaser. The enemy team literally cannot do anything about it. Even a sniper will fear you.
    It worked in 2006. It just wont work in 2022. You would need to COMPLETELY remove ALL EMP effects from the game. Shock rifle, disruptor, dynamo's.. All gone. It would also basically replace the skewer entirely no one would pick it up after that. They already dont even without a Splaser.
    Ascended Hyperion tried to bring this up earlier in Infinites lifespan and same thing back then... Its just to much in one weapon to add to the current sandbox. Not just against vehicles but against infantry too.
    Im more than okay with it not been in the game.
