@@colecamp2539 I meant after the assault. The virus mutated, and even with immunity, people will suffer the degenerative effects. After hundreds of years it seems the virus faded to obscurity and is only passed through genetics of the apes, no longer present in the world

@@colecamp2539in cut footage the coloniel kills malcom and the rest of the survivors fearing they may be infected. The directors took this out because the wanted to leave some characters story to be unknown after the second and third film, but it does appear canonically that malcom and the people he was with were killed offscreen.
