Slipknot never chose wrong drummer, respect joey, jay & eloy 🔥
Great assessment!
Slipknot is the luckiest band, always got a great drummer
Jay was not a replacement, just an inferior option. Eloy is a true successor to Joey.
@@vladtheimpaler7878just got drummer of the year multiple time but yeah inferior 😂
Each of them played it in their own unique way, but don’t forget that Joey created this groove
Groove. That's the word I was looking for. Joey definitely had that groove. He was the only one out of the 3 that you can feel that groove. He was feeling that song with his soul. Jay was playing too fast and looked like he was struggling. Eloy was amazing, but to me it seems like he's focusing on perfection. Makes sense since it was one of his first shows with the band. I bet a year from now he's going to have that groove with it that Joey had.
Imagina se fosse o Eloy que tivesse criado? Mais joy e encrivel
If you didn't "see" this performance, only heard it as isolated drum tracks, Eloy is much more tasty and groovy, his ghost notes make it feel so full. This audio of Eloy wasn't even going through the soundboard!
@@Jasonxknotthere’s no way u just said Eloy doesn’t have the groove, did you even listen to it?
@jacobdesmond2479 Yeah, I did listen to it. My comment wouldn't make any sense if I didnt. Did you listen to it? It's pretty apparent that Joey is playing with feeling and soul and Eloy is trying to be as precise as possible. Maybe you have to be a musician to hear it and maybe you arent one, but there's a slight difference there. You can not only hear it, you cant see as well. Joey has a groove to it that the others dont. Eloy just started performing live with him. Give him a year and he's going to be playing this as if he wrote it. There's always a difference between the person who wrote it vs the person who's trying to play it.
Eloy is a savage, but Joey is the originator of the part, and he wrote some of the best drum books metal has ever seen.
wait for those to come. Eloy Era
Eloy casually allowed Slipknot to join his band.
😂😂😂
Am I the only one who think that the next Slipknot's album with Eloy will be INSANE !?
Can't wait !
Eloy rules he’s a fantastic drummer but as far as writing drums in slipknot I don’t think he’ll ever match the awesome drums Joey wrote even if they’re more technically impressive. Jay’s writing on we are not your kind was pretty damn great too so if Eloy writes drums that sound as good on record as those I’ll be happy. Live he’ll most likely go down as the best drummer in slipknot just because I think he’ll consistently play the drums at the right tempo all the time, Joey is an absolute legend but there were alot of times back in the day where he’d be rushing and playing the drums too fast which would speed the songs up a bunch. he’ll likely always be unmatched on record tho because of how iconic his drums in slipknot were.
@@puppetmaster8551 just listen to "Quadra", the Sepultura album composed by Eloy. if you're a drummer or does know the very minimum of drumming, you'll probably change your mind on that. it doesn't have to be a competition, but eloy is a great composer.
I reckon (hope) it'll be as hardcore as IOWA.
Doubt it. The band that made the earlier records is no more. The rage is gone
@@NotDeludedpeople say this every album cycle hahaha. They were like 28, far from wealthy and fucked up on drugs. They’re now rich, old, comfy and theatrical. There’s no way.
The way each one plays is unique... But Joey and Eloy are superhumans
all are tbh
Joey is a legend and an OG and he gets all the props in the world for writing it which matters the most but he also would speed up the tempo pretty often, Jay wouldn’t do it as often imo and Eloy likely won’t ever rush it unless intentional. That being said I doubt anyone will ever write better drums for slipknot than Joey, his drum parts were legendary, I do think Jay’s drums on we are not your kind were really awesome tho so if Eloy writes drums as good as those I’ll be really happy, live he’s likely the best of them but we will just have to wait and see what his written drums for them sound like
@@puppetmaster8551 Yes, that's quiet the thing. I love Eloy's drumming for his instrumental duo and for Sepultura, but we gotta see how this is gonna work with Slipknot. Joey kept mastering awesome grooves that were easily digested when he got another bands, like Scar the Martyr, Sinsaenum and VIMIC
@@marcuskrueger2965 ya forsure, I’m definitely very interested in hearing drums Eloy writes in slipknot, definitely most what I’m looking forward to when it comes to new slipknot, really high bar tho with Joey’s amazing drums in slipknot and even Jay on we are not your kind was pretty damn great.
Once Max and Igor left the band it was over in '96
All 3 of these men are great drummers. They all deserve respect for the contribution they gave or are giving to the band.
Joey showed us which notes should be played but Eloy is showing us HOW those notes should be played... damn

Eloy is the only one who respects the times of the original tracks, metronome man 🤘🤘
He's also the grooviest drummer of the three.
The other two previous drummers also respected the tempo, at least in these clips. They played all the same. The only difference between them is the energy they put on it.
@@hell4punkno definetely not. eloy pretty much played like joey, but some added ghost notes and hits harder. jay had inconcistent tempo, tried covering up poor double bass stamina with obnoxious amount of fills, sloppy playing and uses triggers because of poor stamina and power. joey and eloy are wayy out of his league. jay sure can drum, but there's definetely room for improvement.
@@MBCMSPR you totally forget that Joey also used triggers, and Jay was way better than Joey was during the AHIG years of slipknot (mostly because of joey sickness but still). But Eloy is 100% the best one of the 3
@@brunomunoz467 right. but earlier, before his sickness and before he triggered his drumset, he was a beast. i'll admit that eloy is better; on a technical level atleast. but jay is far from joey in his prime. FAR. i'd say jay is a pretty solid writer and making music. but on a technical level, he's not even good. he lacks on so many departments, it's actually a shame he even joined slipknot. really hope they do some heavy shit with eloy though. i swear if they make like a grey chapter album with eloy, i'm gonna be so disappointed lol
Joey's movement was just effortless.
thats what i notice the most is that for Joey he just moves different...almost like hes not even trying - in a good way.
Joey's doing it calmy and smoothly, Jay added some slightly different techniques (he's flamming more, etc.), Eloy is going absolutely nuts into it, his movements aren't as smooth, yes, but he still retains the precision, even whilst absolutely denolishing the drumkit
Eloy is the only one that uses ghost notes! Which makes the song way better, in my opinion!
No, it doesn't. I honestly think these ghost notes kill the brutality of the original piece which was ment to be a wall of sound. This is NuMetal, not jazz.
Haha he’s the only one powerful enough to be able to hear it over the band. No disrespect to Joey as he’s the godfather
@@or1on89 groove metal
I caught that too. Interesting choice.
Joey was playing them too, but you cant hear it because his velocity is more like ghost notes in a Toto song. Eloy hits hard AF & you can hear his ghosts notes.
Weinberg is good….but his parts lack dynamic. They all melt together & theres no punctuation between riffs.
I respect a lot both other drummers but I really like Eloy because we can hear every single note played by him.
You can hear every note because his cam is the only one with the drums isolated like that. Lol😂
In this way you’re liking how the video has been recorded… not the actual drummer
Eloy can play as fast but hit a Lot harder, one of a kind, all of them are great tho
Even outside of Eloy’s drum cam on the regular concert videos, it’s clear as day that he his hitting every note on the proper flow/timing
Please check Jays cam that the notes he is playing it not well played mixing the sounds in a bad way. Pay attention to the fills. I am not talking about the quality of the sound.
As a non-drummer's opinion:
Joey: The creator, the goat, no Jay or Eloy without Joey
Jay: Fast (imo, the reason he was out and maybe attitude but only the band can tell). Clearly puts a punk / hardcore vibe and they're no denying Jay's love for that genre.
Eloy: Precision, Strong, OG tempo
speed can't be the reason lol, Jay can play the speed they want to play, he's a professional drummer
@@jkorkea From what I read on Reddit (unchecked facts of course), drum tech said he struggled live. The reason I'm saying speed is the problem is I read (once again, unproved) is a source of frustration for the others who must keep up to his speed and Corey who's 50 and still a beast, it's probably demanding a lot for him as well as the guitar players. Also, I see a lot of comments about Eloy playing the right tempo of the original songs and songs are heavier during breakdown when played at slower tempo so it just shows Jay plays faster. Don't get me wrong, I love Jay and he got me back into Slipknot in 2014 and I thought a young guy could give the energy back to the band.
@@xoxo666 I don't think speed is the reason, if it really was he could have just played with a metronome and if it really was, he would have been out YEARS ago.
I believe someone in Slipknot stated that they purposefully play songs faster during live shows because it gives them a more "raw" feeling and also because it allows them to have a longer setlist and hype the crowd better.
I saw them in Verona in 2022 and I can say that NO ONE was struggling there to follow Jay.
To each their own:
Joey was the creator and who inspired me to pick a drumset and beat the living shit out of it for the past 10 years or so (I am not that great sigh).
Jay had that "mojo" that gave a truly unique feeling to each song he played live, even if it wasn't note for note (for which I couldn't care less, I care about the music in general, not the parts), even if it wasn't at perfect tempo (neither Joey was! just go listen to Vol. 3, you can hear the best his fluctuations in "Pulse Of The Maggots").
Eloy has incredibile power, precision and feeling. I want to hear more of him in Slipknot.
All three are incredible drummers, who had (and have) one of the most difficult roles in the music industry (it isn't exactly easy to be Slipknot's drummer) and all three should be credited for what they've done and will do.
@@blacksaturn_ I get what you mean! And I feel you man! Joey inspired me in some weird way. I thought for a short guy, he's one badass MF! The weird dance that he does etc! Never really played drums but I would, he's be my #1 inspiration. I stopped listening to Slipknot around 2007 because I discovered the hardcore/deathcore scene. I had tears when I heard Joey passed and I was in sushi restaurant parking lot haha.
Jay: I was intrigued by that young guy! I thought he was awesome and gave life back to Slipknot along with V-Man! I started listening to Slipknot with .5 The Gray Chapter
Eloy: Although I'm sad Jay is gone, the comments I saw for Eloy kind of hyped me up! But I gotta admit I never heard anything about him when he was in Sepultura. Can't wait to see what he will bring!
@@xoxo666 glad you get me hahahah! I didn't hear much from Eloy either but what I heard absolutely blew me away at the time, I'm talking about "Isolation" by Sepultura, if you haven't go watch the Behind The Scenes and the playthrough by Eloy, the sheer power and creativity he puts behind the kit is faboulous, I guess the creativity comes from the fact that he's Brazilian and Brazilian music (which is INSANELY HARD to play on drums) is very different from typical western music. I hope we'll get not just heavier records but more creative ones, TESF felt overall stale and uninspired...
There is no Jay or Eloy without Joey. Respect the goat 🐐
Was the GOAT that’s past this moment on its Eloy time you will hear it
You have to respect the original band member because he's the one that came up with half the songs and they want to disrespect him That's a shame on them

There is no Jay without Iggor Cavallera / Sepultura & groove/tribal metal
@LuxferoBR exactly the point I was trying to make, thank you!

Joey makes it look easier. He also wrote everything. He's the embodiment of the band
Joey seems almost unbothered and hit hard as hell without even breaking a sweat. Plus he wrote this beat so I don't think that he ever felt like he had something to prove. Watching Jay now after Eloy took over makes it very very clear why Jay was replaced. Eloy is a hard hitting insanely good timing plus he adds the little extra magic and power using incredible ghost notes. It's very apparent in Eloys drumming that he looked up to Joey as a kid, like a lot of metal drummers did. I like to think that Joey is proud of Slipknots decision to honor his legacy with Eloy.
Edit:
Man.. This comment section seems to be 12 year olds.. Joey has been the one who put all of us old guys on to slipknot in the first place. The lyrics are shit and guitars is just buried of noice. Slipknot became famous with the phrase “have you heard of Joey Jordison?”. Stop being pathetic kids. Eloy is the best but Joey is legend.
Eloy has been a Slipknot fan since he was a teenager, it's obvious that he looks up to Joey, and playing with Slipknot is a dream come true for him.
Joey was a hell of a drum line writer. One thing he was NOT was a hard hitter. He hit very, very lightly. The "booming" you heard from his drumming was because of triggers.
@@jcmo187His ace in the pack was speed, as opposed to power. You can't do the rolls he could on the snare by being a caveman.
@@marcusking8507 except Eloy does. I've been a huge fan of him for years. He's just as fast if not faster than Joey and much more precise. Joey's biggest strength was writing. His drum parts are super rememberable. You can name a bunch of his songs just from the drums.
@@jcmo187 Joey had that Dave Lombardo-esque "falling down the stairs" feel to his playing, like it was all about to fall apart at any moment. I'm still wowed by some of his playing on Iowa, for instance.
Eloy is pretty damn impressive though, and he loves ghost notes, which are always, always a plus with me.
The first time I saw Eloy Casagrande with Slipknot, I was blown away by his playing. Eloy is the perfect drummer for Slipknot and I'm so glad he's in Slipknot. He is doing a great job!!!

Ayooo
Joey wrote the song, and plays is fabulously of course. Jay plays it fast, and I like a lot of the extra fills he adds. Eloy plays fast and hard. All 3 brought something new to the song.
he adds extra fills because he doesn't have the stamina to keep the song the way it should be played.
@Lady_Boy_ All depends on the song. I've seen him play Me Inside, and Metabolic without adding extra fills. Even Joey did the same thing from time to time. Part of Slipknot's charm bro. Eloy even adds extra fills to songs.
@@VileSinner666 ok
He adds extra fills so he can hide the sloppiness of his double bass. I’ve seen his version of Disasterpieces whole and he was all over the place. No wonder Slipknot kicked him out.
@MarkJusti Jay's never been perfect at double bass, no doubt about it. He has good days and bad days. Same with Joey. Sometimes he can nail it, other times he does fills to hide it. It's all about being human.
I know you guys love Eloy but for me Joey was the spirit of Slipknot . He was also the underdog in the early 2000’s and now for me he is the goat !!!!
you're right, Joey was the spirit of the band. Great technical drummers can play and, eventually improve the songs, but Joey was original. Now we have to wait for new stuff to see how Eloy will increase the Slipknot legacy

Aside from drumming skills, I think Joey's performance was well designed, including headbanging, stick tricks, body movements, etc. He mixed those moves naturally into his drumming. He must have spent time deliberately practicing those moves to make them so natural while playing that kind of high-level drumming. If you play drums, you know how hard it is to do some cool shit and play difficult notes at the same time. In a way you can even say that the "difficult" songs are easy enough for him to do those shit.
I'm not a drummer but Joey gave the impression of being very in control of his body movements whereas Jay seems to need to move more just to get around the kit. Eloy is less theatrical than Joey, more raw power, still extremely controlled to an almost superhuman level of consistency.
Eloy is an amazing drummer, one of the best, but Joey is the best drummer in history and no one can replace him. Rest in peace, legend 🙏🙏🙏
Neil Peart is the greatest drummer in history. Don't forget that.
All of them are awesome. All of them has their own style. Joey was a creator of this tracks. Jay was super-technique, and Eloy is also cool. There is no “better and worse “. Slipknot doesn’t choose bad drummers. Slipknot’s drummers always are more than humans. Respect each of them.
Jay plays the drums drunk
Joey is the best because he create this style..and he is first drummer when Slipknot famous carrier..we loved because Joey the Legend Slipknot drummer...

3. You're a fan of what they look like performing, not what and how they actually perform
4. Your pride is hurt
Yes, Joey wrote those songs and he was an amazing drummer, no doubt about that. But leave your pride and fanboy attitude aside and just give credit where credit is due.
You don’t know what you are talking about
Your comment was even more butthurt than the butthurts!
@@DJFalkoHannover you don’t know what you are talking about either! Learn how to play drums
@@BunkMayne I play for more than 30 year but okay ... you are the best man! :-D Its okay ... lol Everybody else has no clue. Except you :-D
@@DJFalkoHannover Exactly!
The ghost notes of Eloy is so clean & INSANE!! DAMN!!
I believe Slipknot never have a bad drummer. You can clearly see their playing styles are different.
Eloy is the best metal drummer in history. Amazing.
Nice joke,we wanna see what he will create in the future then we can talk
@@marcotaproot you don’t know anything about drumming 🤷🏻♂️
@@kmirandakondo u talkin about u dude.Eloy is amazing but tell me what legendary albums he was in
Não exagera campeão
@@marcotaproot Eloy:

- Joined Sepultura at 18 years old
- When he was 33 years old he already recorded 9 albums
- Joins Slipknot
Sublime technique- sublime performances.
You know- sadly given your opinion doesn’t require not being an ignorant- but you should try it.
Very funny, a lot of people compare joey, jay & eloy.
They forget that this is a slipknot, a big band that will not carelessly choose a drummer.
Joey is Zeus, Jay is Thor, Eloy is Kratos
Eloy's fills sound so damn tight and clean!
All amazing drummers 🍻
Three great drummers, no doubt. They all bring something unique to the table. Jordison being an original member is of course a big part of why Slipknot sounds the way they do. Jay is bit more erratic, in a good way. He's got more of almost a punk vibe to him. Eloy is of course more rooted in metal and is super tight in all he does. With him I think Slipknot loose a bit of the erratic feel, but they get a real powerhouse instead.
