I'm not as bothered Brompton decided to use micro-USB (instead of USB-C), but why oh why do they have to sell these as a pair?! Almost everyone I know has swapped out their stock Brompton saddle for something more comfortable and to their liking, myself included. Brompton needs to either offer the lights separately, or at the very least include mounting options for non-stock handlebars and saddles. As much as I like it, I'm not paying £40.00 for just the Front light, and leave the Rear light unused in the box.
Yeah I'm pretty fed up with micro USB on these types of things. (Could be worse I guess - some of my lights use MINI USB...) Certainly there's basic issues here like wanting to be able to use the same charge cable for different devices (like my phone) - but it's also getting to the point where USB-C is just a lot easier to find in stores than micro-USB. In a pinch I want to be able to buy a cheap cable from a convenience store, and that is gradually becoming a more difficult prospect.
These Lights have a serious drawback in my opinion. Here in Central Europe we have frequently weather where it is dark and raining, and try to wear a cape wile having those lights on. If you never ride in the rain this lights might work. Also, micro usb? really? why?
Not just capes are an issue with this rather silly positioning of the rear light, many types of overcoats and jackets will cover them. And this isn't unique to Central Europe either but will be true in most, if not all, parts of the world. Folding bikes are (most) frequently used for commuting, so many folding bike riders will wear decent length coats, in particular in the darker seasons of the year, that will cover the rear light in this position.
Was that a micro USB port? 😲
Sadly, yes...
I learned by Be-Seen that there is a better way to USB by way of the USB-C. It reminds me of the failsafe in medical equipment design.

Bummer, I hope that there will be lights compatible with Brooks in the future
