Great video as always, Mark I found a smooth bore flintlock pistol to be very easy to load and handle just make yourself up some paper cartridges and you have everything you need right there in the cartridge they are a lot of fun to shoot Signed Ethan
No doubt they are both a lot of fun but it seems like if you're already using flintlocks. Than that's probably a lot more convenient. Although I'm not going to lie I love them both. Happy Mother's day to Mrs. BPMS and blessings to you and your family always Mark. Thanks for the video this week 👍😁
I only have 2 percussions a Lyman like you have and a Pedersoli Kentucky. Both are 54 caliber. Fun to shoot at steel with but I havent gotten out with them yet. Always good entertainment on Sundays courtesy of the BPMS channel
Good morning Brother, I personally like the percussion over the flint ! Hmm maybe that's why I have a Hawken 50 cal, Kentucky 50 cal, Kentucky 45 cal pistol, and yea I even got a couple of Knight inlines 50 cal, never really had an opportunity to shoot the ole rock lock !! May the Lord bless you my friend...gotta get ready for church this morning !!!!
Hands down the caplock is "easier" for the average shooter. That said, the flintlock pistol can be mastered and is a heckuva lot of fun! 4:46 I think you pulled that Redcoat's chain.
I loved the video Mark. I have both and enjoy both after all it's about burning powder. I feel sorry for the pig😢 it probably got pneumonia from all the wind of the missed shots. God bless Mark to you and yours, looking forward to seeing you in August, Bruce.
Same here. Flintlock is older technology than a caplock system. Not saying that flintlock is bad but a caplock is just a better system overall. You can count on a caplock to fire the gun every time with good quality caps. And you don't have flash in the pan as you would with flintlocks.
I feel like this video was made for me. I was jsut thinking of buying a muzzle loading black powder pistol and was trying to decide between a Caprock and flintlock
Just kinda wandering, with the scarcity of caps, why waste a cap firing one to supposedly clear the oils when you don’t do anything like that on a flintlock? I’m new to shooting flintlocks, have been a percussion shooter until recently and always done that. However, I’m now questioning why that is necessary for a percussion and not a flintlock. I’ve never noticed a flintlock shooter firing a pan of powder to “clear the oils” prior to loading. Just curious.
The main reason why I pop a cap is....I've loaded the gun the first time on an outing many of times and it wouldn't fire. The only way to get it to work then is to pull the nipple, add some powder behind it, replace the nipple and then it would fire. To me...it is just easier to pop a cap & move on. Thanks for asking....great question.
are you still using .480 rb its too small for the trapper pistol i tried them and couldent even hit a five gallon bucket at 25 yards .i swiched back to the .490 and hit it every time
Fun video, the first time it didn't go off, I had the powder, patch & ball song in my mind 😁 I like Flintlock the best but I do like the GPP as well because of the belt clip. I have fired .380-round balls in the GPP and it was quite accurate but, it was not so accurate in the Kentucky Flintlock Pistol, however, each one has a different type of rifling. I have .383- round balls that I plan to try one day soon. As always, enjoyed the video 👍
Hey bpms ive got a question or two or three youve heard the oll thing about not using your palm to to ram the ball home cause if it goes it will shoot the ram rod throygh your hand well its true dont use your palm for safety sake but people seem to be missing one thing remember that rod is ramming the projectile home if the gun should go off wouldnt the projectile come flying out of the gun too and wouldnt the ball pose just as much risk to the user as in correctly used ram rod it seems to me even if one uses the ramrod correctly if an unintended discharge happened it seems like the projectile would still get ones hand before he or she could get it out of the way lastly have you heard of any actual cases of a muzzle loader going off during the loading procedure
I agree, if the gun does discharge, it would also have a round ball and ramrod going thru your hand. I have never heard of anyone getting shot by a ball/ramrod in this scenario. I've been criticized for having my hands over the barrel while loading. With shooters loading the tightest patched round balls possible these days, I don't see how a gun can be loaded without you hands hovering over the barrel. Great question.
@@GeorgiaRidgerunner I understand that too…I’ve slowed down showing it….it usually gets shown once…mainly for the new shooters. I film several loading sequences but show the best one to avoid the keyboard attacks.
Would you know what ever happened to Bob McBride-- Black Powder TV? I'm pretty sure you mention once that you two know each other, and I seem to remember you two made a video together too. Thanks for any insight, and keep up you good works.
I don’t follow why you felt the need to change the flint. It was igniting the priming, so must be some other reason the flash didn’t set off the main charge.
Yep.....I kept on shooting during the virus nonsense. That's the beauty of black powder shooting, if you have the supplies, you can keep on shooting...!! Thanks for watching...
I feel like percussion is slightly better for accuracy, given there's less delay. But flintlock offers more sustainability. You can make your own power from household chemicals, you can make your own balls, and nobody here will ever live long enough to see a flint shortage. So me, imma get a flint rifle and maybe flint pistol.
Flint lock all the way Mark . That piggy was laughing at you today 😂🤣🇺🇸
Yeah....thats a tough rascal to hit somedays....LOL
Both types are fun to shoot....but I ways reach for the flinter...Thanks for taking us along

I love them both but given a choice hand me the flint. Fun video thanks Mark

I'm going to try some paper cartridges in smoothbore soon. That certainly will be change of pace. Thanks for watching....
When I watch your channel I always enjoy it. Maybe a demonstration of using the loading block for the firing ranges
I need to make one & I'll then I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I do love shooting both types! I believe due to the cap shortage, the flint gun will be more desirable at this time. Thanks for watching.
Flintlock all the way especially with the shortage of caps right now
Amen brother....I agree. Those caps are hard to find!
really enjoyed this video :)
Thanks my friend.....I enjoy putting these together.
Always a pleasure to see a new upload from you.
Thanks for those kind words my friend....

Thanks for the interesting Video .
I need to get shooting now that the weather is nice!
Yes, its FINALLY getting nice here in KY too. Weather has been cold & miserable here for weeks.
