This felt much more like one of my old-school videos. It’s weird to call any of my content “old School” but it has been more than 3 years since the channel started. There really isn’t any content about albatrosses on UA-cam, so I hope people are interested in this animal. On the other hand, maybe they’re not, and this video will become my own personal “Albatross” viewership-wise.
Music was not made by Dara Hughes this time, instead, it is this great royalty-free track here on UA-cam. • Deep Blue - Calming Oc...

If I were to be born as an animal and could choose which one, I'd choose to be a Royal Albatross, they just spend their lives soaring over the ocean and chilling in their nests above the rocks away from any predators, and have plenty of fish to eat

The amazing thing about Wisdom is that she is still raising chicks with no signs of slowing! She has revealed to us that albatrosses are not only long-lived but also remain fertile for a long time. That's probably how the birds work around having a very slow breeding cycle.

It was The Rescuers that first got me interested in these beautiful birds. It was the perfect choice to have the albatross be the "airplane" for the mice. He also had to get a run for take-off, and he crash-landed every time coming in! Albatross are the best gliders, but quite terrible at landing and walking.

So what I have taken from this video, is that albatrosses live the best life:
travel the world with ease, find the love of your life, travel the world with ease, have lovely children, travel the world with ease, die of old age.
sounds like they have it about right. Not for the first time, I am jealous of a seabird.

10 years ago I went vactioning to the beaches of Acapulco
It was a windy, sunny day, perfect for going to the shore and dwelling on the beach
But my dad had another idea, because the hotel we booked in that week had a pool in the roof
So we took the elevator and went to the 16th floor. When we got there, my life was changed forever
A bird, whose size dwarfed every other bird I've seen to that day, staring at me from the other side of the floor, peacefully, but intensely, as if it was scrutinizing my soul
The albatross then took flight, spreading its wings, and letting the wind carry it to its fate
Many more of them soared above me that weekend. Their huge shadows letting me know they were there
Idk if there's a culture who have assigned them some significance, but since that day, for me, Albatrosses are the birds of peacefulness and good times

I’m in college for my BS in wildlife care, and my biology course project I chose to do on short tailed albatrosses. The incredible adaptations they’ve made to become the masters of the skies (I wrote this a millisecond before I heard you say almost the exact same thing in the intro lmao) are like the most successful examples of evolution. You see a lot of animals that develop so far into a specific niche then as soon as their habitat is altered they immediately go extinct, but albatrosses adaptation is the perfect blend of specialization of locomotion combined with generalization of acceptable food. Basically anything that lives near the surface of the water is fair game for them. The only real thing that could kill them off is losing their breeding islands.

The bit about them being terrified when bobbing without wind to catch on open waters might have some validity. Back when sailing was sailing, albatrosses would often land themselves on the deck of vessels during calm days and would tolerate well the humans on board. It was common practice to chase, catch, play with, razz, and feed the creature before letting it on its way. Never killed though, as you'd be cursed and would be forced by the rest of the crew to wear the corpse around your neck as an ill omen or like repentance for... I dont know how long, actually. Until the voyage ends or it rots off you? The details of these things I forget. There's no reason to kill them anyways, as their meat is pitiful and _foul._ Not even starving castaways find themselves able to down much of it at all.
They are quite fun because they're so massive, deceptively as big from what you'd take away only having watched this video as they are unbelievably light, which makes for an interesting feeling when you handle them. They're great birds.
