The word albatross is sometimes used metaphorically to mean a psychological burden that feels like a curse. An Albatross was a major character in the 1798 poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In the poem, an albatross starts to follow a ship - being followed by an albatross was generally considered a sign of good luck. However, the titular mariner shoots the albatross with a crossbow, which is regarded as an act that will curse the ship. The bird is placed on the sailor's neck by shipmates to show the guilt in killing it. Therefore, the albatross can be both an omen of good or bad luck, as well as a metaphor for a burden to be carried as penance.

zCermonDax - Don´t abuse alcohol, you will end up as an emotional shell of your former self unable to function, do your work or have any close relationship with those you love. In the end your drinking makes you lonely and miserable, and you keep drinking because you are lonely and miserable.
I have a relative who gets drunk to escape the pains of reality, but his emotions can be too much. I can easily reflect his situation with this beautifully animated short. Those bottles of Jack Daniels sure are an alluring sign of temptation, yet only the foolish who believe it would bring peace would slam a bottle down, even though they will still boil with anger.
i love this animation, and i'm revisiting it a year later, and so i could hear everything he said, i put captions on. he's called "iceman" and originally (unless it's just the caption author choosing ice over glass) i thought he was glass, to signify the broken bottles and whatnot. but thinking of him as ice is different, because the sounds his body makes (specifically when he drinks the first shot and it flows through him) match ice so much more than the sound of glass rubbing together, as well as his shot glasses being ice means an always cold drink. nothing "in-depth" here, just a thought about him being ice rather than glass

@@bobbygeorge9181 Sorry bud, not sure if you're familiar with the area of addiction and recovery; I have been part of the recovery community for nearly 30 yrs, and although you might "stop using", the "addiction" is always there. For example...if you have all the symptoms and behaviors of an addict, and have done so for a long time, your body will now have a specific chemical in it which will trigger the "craving" of your drug of choice, should you ever go back to using again. That's the difference; you can be drug free for 30 yrs, and if you go back and use, just that one time is all it will take for the brain to be triggered into "craving" mode. So no...as I stated, "you can't be cured of the disease of addiction".
KEVIN'S SPIRIT COMMUNICATION & RESEARCH you cannot be an alcoholic if you no longer drink. If you do not drink you literally cannot be labeled as an alcoholic. You cannot label someone as something they no longer do. Former alcoholic is correct, if he does not drink he cannot be an alcoholic
Alcoholic is not a title that you are born with, it develops over time. And just like you became one you can also stop being one. It is a personal choice and many people have chosen to end their addiction, they are not called alcoholics after they give it up.
The beauty of it is that you don't need to see more. Some movies are made to provoke the thought, not give you the answer. It is the audience that must make the ending through personal choice
I learnt alot from this Each time I remember About this video I always comes back to watch again I am sure that I might have watched this video morethan 2k times 😢

zCermonDax - Don´t abuse alcohol, you will end up as an emotional shell of your former self unable to function, do your work or have any close relationship with those you love.
In the end your drinking makes you lonely and miserable, and you keep drinking because you are lonely and miserable.
right?
Lord Funface The Atomic Toaster.
seems every year I come back to view this again - its simply fantastic
Being a recovering alcoholic myself, this video means a lot to me I know exactly who these characters.
I have a relative who gets drunk to escape the pains of reality, but his emotions can be too much.
I can easily reflect his situation with this beautifully animated short. Those bottles of Jack Daniels sure are an alluring sign of temptation, yet only the foolish who believe it would bring peace would slam a bottle down, even though they will still boil with anger.
i love this animation, and i'm revisiting it a year later, and so i could hear everything he said, i put captions on. he's called "iceman" and originally (unless it's just the caption author choosing ice over glass) i thought he was glass, to signify the broken bottles and whatnot. but thinking of him as ice is different, because the sounds his body makes (specifically when he drinks the first shot and it flows through him) match ice so much more than the sound of glass rubbing together, as well as his shot glasses being ice means an always cold drink. nothing "in-depth" here, just a thought about him being ice rather than glass
you back?
This is an amazing piece. Saw it when it first came out and have been back many times since. It really sticks with you.
the gift that doesn’t give back
Gold fish
Glass man!
This was beautiful
i won't!
XD
I am thinking of the fisherman and the bird could be an alcoholic man and his child, the monster could be the personification of alcoholism
yosegaman great job sherlock
Annelise Meier lol
yosegaman no real evidence for him having a child. The bird is just his better nature and the jagged glass twin is his addiction
DrTheKay takes one to know one!
I think you shoud eat carrots :)
Im 51 Native American M in Michigan. This really hit home. This was my story in a cartoon. Bird and everything . I was told awhile back when I sobered up I'd hear or see my story. Alcohol WAS my best friend. Its been a bit since Ive seen or heard it but this DEFINITELY fits the mold of my story. At the end when the bottle is empty and going down to bottom I believe he was saved by the bird and was looking at himself and what has become of himself. Shakes and All. God Bless You All for the Video 🙏

I've watched this so many times over the years, still amazing
Yes,we all have our way none of us is perfect like the video is good
I'm under the assumption that the creature is made of sea glass from broken alcohol bottles?
xsudo yeah, it can also be his addiction.
that's what I thought too. the creature is his addiction to alcohol.
xsudo Right on the nail. You got it.
Sea glass is broken bottles smoothed by the waves and sand after a period of time.
Dey Cruz that's like saying " You are a sluts. "

Wunderbarer kleiner Kurzfilm..
Danke :))
Lots of symbolism and metaphors.a 'deep' look at the 'demon drink' and the effects of it 'robin' you of your life when you feel 'all at sea' mentally.the 'glass like' fragility of emotions and how the spiral can be 'broken'.All in a 6min animation. Great work.
Felicidades y buen trabajo Joel Best, Alex Jeremy y Alex Karonis!

This animation shows you that you can beat addiction

My interpretation of the situation-
This shows how fragile we are and how susceptible we are to a temporary fix.

this is fucking awesome, the dude just conquered his addiction
Deep! My father, my younger brother and one of my best friends could not stay away from the sauce. They are all dead now.
I like how the alcohol not only damages the man but the glass man as well
Every addiction feeds you with hunger.
Not FOOD.

I absolutely love everything about this. EVERYTHING!

Or what's in the bottle.
Comment like this make me want to be an alcoholic then go in to rehab to be sober again
That glass man is the only character who can talk in the short
A simple and beautiful view of what addiction steals.

used to be an alcoholic. This was amazing. Made me feel
Nobody "use" to be an alcoholic; either you are or are not. There is no cure!
KEVIN'S SPIRIT COMMUNICATION & RESEARCH You can break an addiction your not stuck with it for life
@@bobbygeorge9181 Sorry bud, not sure if you're familiar with the area of addiction and recovery; I have been part of the recovery community for nearly 30 yrs, and although you might "stop using", the "addiction" is always there.
It is a personal choice and many people have chosen to end their addiction, they are not called alcoholics after they give it up.
when temptation comes over me.

@@machinerage6941 yeah I recon there should be a longer version a lot of the CGI movies are good but not long enough
The beauty of it is that you don't need to see more. Some movies are made to provoke the thought, not give you the answer. It is the audience that must make the ending through personal choice
As good a dramatization of the alcoholic and alcoholism as I've seen.
