- No lockpicking or combination lock decoding today. Instead I look at this unusual strange object which was designed nearly 100 years old. This TIC-TAC (not TikTok) bag was made by the Richmond Time Recording Company and was used as a conduit between a Bookmaker and a bookie's runner. Here I describe the reasons why this bag was invented, the internals and its possible use within the horse racing fraternity, between 1926 - 1960.

I Can’t get enough history. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
I've always been enchanted by the way these blokes from Jolly Ole England speak as if they have a mouth full of porridge.
Thank you for your comments and watching, it means a lot to me. I think it’s the first time that I’ve been called enchanting. 😂🤣😂
What a fantastic object, love the intricate operation combined with the workflow, thoroughly enjoyed that, thank you
Thank you for your kind comments, I’m pleased that you enjoyed it so much.
That was extremely fascinating Paul. Those holes and pins all the way round I thought would have been to stop a twisting attack. When you said it was to stop betting slips from being put into the bag it made more sense.
The whole thing is simple and intricate at the same time.
Cheers for sharing Paul 🙂👍
Thank you Roy for continuing to watch my content and your comments.
That was cool. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it and thanks for commenting.
That's a beautiful piece of lock history. Great job on making a key and bringing it back to life. Thanks for sharing Paul that was very interesting. Take care mate and have a fantastic week.
Gazz, many thanks for continuing to watch my channel. The key was a challenge, but so worth it. Best wishes to you all.
@@sotonlock7894 A subs for life, not just for christmas. Take care mate.
Grate video love a bit of history 👍
Many thanks for taking the time to comment on my video, I very much appreciate it.
Thanks!
You welcome. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Thanks for sharing. That's really cool! I see a listing of three of them recently sold on EBay.
Thanks for watching and you comment. I didn’t see those three on eBay.
@@sotonlock7894 Yeah check them out in sold items listed under Antique 1920’s Bookmakers Clock Bags Richmond Time Recording Tic Tac & Keys
What a very interestingly designed lock. I've not seen bookies bag before. Very cool history you researched as well. Thanks for this video. Yeah for sure would like to know more about the social history of locks, cheers
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I’m sure I have a couple of more locks here with some social history behind them.
The brass shim for the keyhole maybe have been removeable so a paper seal could have been installed with it. After the paper was broken by the insertion of the key to unlock, it could be removed again to repeat this task.
Thank you for watching and your comment. Later on in the video, I realise (from reading the patent) the true use of the brass shine; I appreciate your advice.
I bet that bit was to install a paper tamper seal so you can tell if someone has tried to open it, bit like the L&F meter padlocks. Great video and thanks for sharing mate 👍
Edit: I should always watch to the end before commenting 😆
Thank you for watching and commenting. I’ve got several paper seal locks, but none of them look like that the one in Tic-Tac bag.
can you do a video on confusing 'its' and 'it's'?
I agree it’s very confusing. I’m very sorry I can’t, but I’m sure there are other UA-cam videos that might be able to explain it better than me. Thank you for your comment.
