- Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow Mark 2 on tour in 1976.
A monstrous event complete with state of the art RAINBOW featuring Ritchie Blackmore, Cozy Powell, Ronnie Dio, Tony Carey and Jimmy Bain
Cozy has got to be the most overlooked drummer EVER. While a lot of folks in the U.S. are aware of this monster talent, he should have been a household name to music fans in general. RIP, Maestro.
COZY was one of the most powerful drummers in the HISTORY of ROCK….He was UNSTOPPABLE. No wonder even Jeff Beck respected him.
Top 3 in the world easy
Just what planet do you come from? Are you even from our Solar System? Cozy is immensely respected by the likes of Dio, Blackmore, Robert Plant, Jeff Beck, David Coverdale... need I go on? You need to wonder where your life is if you're the only one who thinks he's overlooked.
Powell played on many heavy-duty guitarists' records as well as his 3 solo albums - his place as a good, but not one of the top, drummers is well-documented
“Rainbow Rising” was metal. Pure gold, to be precise
Most powerful lineup of Rainbow. Dio, Powell, Blackmore are gigantic on the rocks stage.
Praying the whole concert, is found, restored and released.
thank you ritchie for all of the great music you have given us.
Seeing Rainbow on July 4, 1976 at the Casino Arena in Asbury Park, NJ was the first concert I attended at age 16. It was incredible.
Ray, nice to meet you. I was there also. It was an awesome show and saw them also a few other times in jersey. Capital theater also. It was a great show. I remember it like yesterday.
@@barryrammer7906 Likewise…Henry Gross wasn’t exactly Thin Litzy, but Phil Was already sick. It was my only Rainbow show, but I wish I could have caught RJD when he was at his peak.
Oh, I hate you 🤣 Seriously, congrats on that first one. Mine was Scorpions with Blackfoot 1982.
Ritchie was just on another level man. He was just brilliant.
Just for some background info...this gig was at Houston, Texas on July 10th 1976 and was filmed (at least in part) by Polydor for promotional purposes...no information on whether this was filmed in its entirety or not, or even if the original footage still exists, but at least we got some amazing footage of Rainbow rockin' it in their early days...Awesome!
Stupendo
I was fortunate enough to have caught up with/ Rainbow 🌈 in Indy back in the late 70's right after the Dark knight left Purple. Only thing was, venue had awful acoustics, probably couldn't book any other hall bec. MANY groups came thru the Midwest at this point 👉, cheers from ETn Smoky Mtns👊🤙
Awesome info rock on 🤘
Wish there was more live footage with Dio
The kids being interviewed sounded Aussie. And 3XY was a Melbourne radio station.
Saw them in 1976, Edinburgh Playhouse. Just brilliant. No one could play like Ritchie back then. Often not given his place amongst the greatest electric players .. ever. Great showman/presence .. great band that gave 100%
Was there as well. The queue to get in was the longest crowd I can remember for any concert. Think it was the first tour Ritchie did after Purple. Great days.
Greatest drum solos ever performed. RIP Cozy. You’re the reason I played the drums.
A live version of Light in the Black! Wow
Awesome love Richie, Cozy, Carey, Bain & Dio!🤘
@Captain Howdy They went commercial instead of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal!🤘🔗⛓️\m/☥♁⁶⁶⁶⸸⛧
On bass is Bob daisley.
@@Vincent-fo7xp: Nope. In '76, that's Jimmy Bain. Carey never played live with Daisley.
Saw them in Sydney in 1976 amazing concert!
😉👍
Yeah me too. It was the night before a supposedly important high school exam and I found the ears still ringing had a wonderfully calming effect ... I hadnt heard Stargazer until then , it was magic
That was fantastic, I didn’t realise such footage existed of that first proper line up with Cozy. Thanks for sharing, made an old man very happy tonight!
My brothers and I couldn't stop playing the Stargazer album when it came out. Ritchie, Ronnie, and Cozy - just magnificent. Jimmie Bain and Toy Carey rounded out the band nicely. Great songs and timeless performances. Thanks for posting this rare footage! RIP Cozy, Ronnie, and Jimmy.
And Dio's voice. Just wow. What a powerhouse. Man I wished I could sing like that. The boys were on fire here.
The Rainbow rising album at age 18 was revolutionary to me, and not so to my parents downstairs.
Remember going to a mate’s house (they’d gone away for the weekend). We brought stack speakers, we knew a local band who brought them in (I think). No idea of the wattage but it was certainly loud. We partied, and I think the mate got absolutely roasted when said parents returned but we played ‘Rising’ on repeat so guess the neighbourhood knew the songs by heart by the time we departed. Great days, happy times. Ritchie and the band just rocked and so did we…….
I was 16 and thus decided on headphones as the best approach!
Good one brother
This was promoted here by 3XY Melbourne Australia when they toured in 1976, and I saw them in concert at Festival Hall. Amazing!
That's what I thought the fans had Aussie accent
I remember watch it on countdown
Rainbow Rising - one of the best album covers ever! (In my still 17 year old head 😎) Happy days...
Oh,my goodness-- sheeesh 😮😳🤯this documentary is stellar, 2 say the least. Ritchie and Dio speaking-- I've never heard Blackmore comment about the beginnings of Rainbow 🌈!! My brain is blown, cheers from ETn Smoky Mtns
This wasn’t the beginning of Rainbow. They already had an album out before rising in 1975.
Yeah, the title was-- " Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 🌈 ( 1st. Album, on vinyl !
Saw Rainbow in late November 1976 in Adelaide (Australia)... they were everything you''ve read, seen & heard and more. For a 16yo it was absolutely mind-blowing
Iconic band..Ronnie and Ritchie is the worlds best duo that has been in a rock band..Long Live Rock .n Roll 🤘
I was at the first Melbourne show…I remember 3XY as the promoting radio station 👍
"I dont like to be predictable"
Understatement of the bloody century. Nobody knew what the mad bastard was going to do next. Brilliant, but mad as a box of frogs.
Waited 45 years for this . Thank you so much
I’m a huge fan of blues, hard rock and heavy metal music, as well as fantasy literature so obviously Rainbow is one of the few bands that I deem…. ICONIC.
Wow what a drum solo from cozy
Did you see it live, by any chance?
Ronnie was in amazing form that night, Voice and stage presence fantastic, and it's an especially enthusiastic performance even for him. I'd love to hear the audio of the entire concert.
Saw him in 78, great show!
Wow, been waiting for a live video of Light in the Black. So cool. Even that small bit was great.
Ronnie, forever The Man on the Silver Mountain...Rock In Peace all members no longer here because they've traveled to Neverwhere...🙏
I'm a huge Sabs fan as well as Dio...but Rainbow HAS to be the greatest band ... til Dio left.
This has just come up on my feed, so I've saved this to watch later as it's nearly midnight here in Australia. Can't wait to watch it, but also I had to comment on the thumbnail of the video - it had a 3XY logo, and as any good Aussie, Victorian would know that "1422 3XY Rocks Melbourne". It was a kicker of a radio station, it was Melbourne's best in the '70s and' '80s
Thx for sharing!! Finally some footage from one of the best songs ever….stargazer🥰. And footage from „a light in the black“🎉.
How I‘d love to have those videos in good quality.
Unfortunately they weren‘t played in Munich 1977.
"A Light In The Black" absolutely rules!! A truly groundbreaking modern Metal song.
"Something's calling me back
There's A Light In The Black
Am I ready to go?
I'm coming home!!"
Holy mother of god, this needs released if the footage is available.
Ronnie James Dio... What a voice! 🤘
Thanks!
Would be great if the whole show was there and could have some 2023 tech applied to it to “clean” it up.
I remember seeing them at Winterland S.F. around this time. I was like 14. Reo-Speedwagon (when they were good) opened
Love the aussie colloquialisms from the 70s....dead set, unreal!
Tks Ritchie fantastic images
HISTORICAL GOLD❤. Thanks so much for this.
Awesome band
Magnificent!
Never knew this existed...fantastic find!👍
We´re getting there, s-l-o-w-l-y. Hopefully, one day a full concert from the first tour, with full-blown sound. For me, it was the best lineup. I saw every tour up to Bent out of Shape.
I was at the Hordern Pavilion gig in Sydney that was it for me Blackers ever since
legendary ones
I like that.
Thanks for sharing
My favorite band !!!
Great shots - how many more of them are stored in the studio,s shushlyatki
Go on YT.....find live in Miami....live in Fukuoka.....
Never seen this before, brought up great memories of Santa Monica Civic Auditorium 1976 ;)
You sure that wasn’t Nov 29 of ‘75 at Santa Monica? Burbank was 1976! 🙌
More vids plz!!!
Have they recorded the whole show ?!
Thanks
I seen them on this concert tour in the Toledo Sports Arena in Toledo Ohio. Heart was the opening band. There were not many people in the audience. They missed a killer show. I think Ritchie was a little pissed off and they came out smoking as well as Heart. Those were the days. $4.50 for tickets back then.
For some reason Rainbow was pushed in the USA instead they chose to promote bands like Journey, Styx and REO Speed Wagon. I think that is what turned Blackmore to commercial music later.
You know your watching god on guitar Ritchie Blackmore. Top 3 in the world easy.
@steven milstead he is special flash look speed phrasing leaves space when needed. Got it all. Unique sound plays slide blues rock speed in one package.
Holy Grail material.
Dio apabullante. Mira que debe ser difícil cantar "a light in the black" en directo y va y supera a la versión de estudio. Es lo mejor que he visto de este hombre.
rainbow at its tightest
Interview is from Nov 1976 Australian tour....interviewer is Trevor Smith
As much as I love all the old Rainbow stuff with Dio, I'm always reminded how detrimental drugs can be to a performance, especially when ego gets in the way. Cozy was the fuck'n man!
M A G I C !!!!!!!!................
I miss you sooo much Ronnie I loved your singing and you are sorely missed. You were the greatest metal singer ever. For a little man you made up for that with that amazingly powerful voice. A true gift from above. R.I.P. my friend. lml horns forever!!!
Rest In Peace to Cozy Powell too, one of the greatest drummers ever!!!
Rest In Peace to Jimmy Bain too. An amazing bass player who played with Dio in Dio also.
What a great lineup..it’s a shame Richie was such a A hole that this lineup wasn’t able to produce at least a few more albums. Because the ones they were able to produce are 2 of the best metal albums ever!
Terima kasih Ritchie...
Блекмор Величайший Художник все его произведения Шедевры !!!!!!!!!
Dio.......once in a lifetime vocalist.
Rest in peace, Ronnie James Dio, Jimmy Bain & Cozy Powell.
Ritchie Blackmore is the worlds best hard rock Master Lead Guitarist in Europe 🇪🇺 & the worlds 🌎.
That is very funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣👈
This looks like it may have been recorded off of one of those big satellite dishes that everyone had in there yards back in the 1980s recorded off of satellite onto VHS and now digitized for the masses to consume amazing... I could be wrong but thats what the distortion in the colors that you see on the guitar and various other places looks very much like to me.
Тандем Блэкмор- Дио, это классика хард рока!!!!! Гиллан- это весь ДП, Тёрнер- более комерчески-слащавый, про других нет слов. R. J. Dio 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Ritchie Blackmore Rainbow is the worlds best hard rock bands in Europe 🇪🇺 & the worlds 🌎.
Dio started his career in the late 50s, but here (in 1976) is called "the exiting young vocalist"!!
❤
When Dio went solo he didn't Bill the band. At least Blackmore Billed the Band on Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. The Second line up was one of the best lineups there was.
😊❤
Cool,band,1
B R I L L I A N T ...
Also he messed up letting Dio go , best singer ever in Metal history
Chills listening to Ronnie James Dio’s vocals soar! Absolutely incredible band.
UNIQUE LINE UP - UNREACHED METAL ROCK MUSIC - IDOLS FOR SO MANY MUSICIANS IN THE PAST, THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE
Que decir de esta musica increible del siglo XX......dificil vuelva a surgir al parecido
Is this the only filmed Stargazer with Ronnie singing live? What a voice. How it cuts through.
No
Забыть Люду Зыкину, Муслима Магомаева, Ричи Блекмора... НЕВОЗМОЖНО!!!
Best drum solo ever 🤔
That drum solo is it recorded on a live album in good quality? I would like that album
Where can we get this full length live version of Stargazer?
That rainbow backlight really fucked with Ritchie's amps on many of the shows. The glory of single coil.
Looks like Tony and Jimmy were still there at that point.
Stargazing moments.
Супер!
;) like! (#5;)
lol Ronnie "I'm sure Ritchie doesn't want it to be Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow for ever"...oh yes he does 😁
No he didn't. It was the record company. From RISING on the band was just known as RAINBOW.
THIS SONG LIVE IS ALWAYS PLAYED TO FAST..LOSES THE GROOVE....{MAN ON THE SILVER MOUNTAIN}.
Agreed. They all were.
Mickey Mouse on speed version of Man on The Silver Mountain?
Tony Carey is the worlds best hard rock Master Keyboard player in United Kingdom 🇬🇧 & the worlds 🌎.
I'm sure Ritchie doesn't want the band to bee called blackmores rainbow for ever, said Ronnie who called his band dio😂
I dont think I've seen any other live performance of a Light in the black. This sounds too fast though...
I’ve always felt Rainbow existed only to get Ronnie to a place where he joined Sabbath…..
