There’s so many potential ending episodes: 5x11 - when the crew make it to Alexandria and Rick hears the voices of children playing 6x9 - no way out, the final “fight” scene is amazing, perfect end to the arc 8x16 - like you said 9x5 - my personal favorite
My mom and I loved TWD. I lived in a different state but we watched “together”. I would call her during commercial breaks screaming “Oh my God!!!!!” 🤣 She unexpectedly died at the start of season 7. It was hard to keep watching but I did. I rewatch the early seasons all the time and think about her. I still miss her so much. I love this show and I really enjoy your videos about it! 💚
I’m so sorry about your mum! RIP thank you for the kind words. The show was so special in the early days and I can’t put my finger on exactly how but it always comforts me every time I watch it! Thank you for watching my vids it means a lot! :)
Criminally underrated vid. You explain your opinions in a clear way and back them up with very reasonable arguments. You even gave solutions to certain problems with the show/franchise. Hats off brother!
Honestly, all it would take is just a few key changes, first of all the cliffhanger at the end of S6, this could be easily fixed by killing off Abraham in the finale, and then Glenn in the premiere, then don't kill off Carl, duh, don't drag All Out War too much, i don't think anything could've been done about RIck's departure but if Carl was alive, it wouldn't be so badly, but yeah, if they just fixed a few key events like these, the show wouldn't have such a bad reputation now, even if they went on to do 11 seasons.
One thing I’ve always liked about Carl’s death, is in the 1st episode of season 4 ‘30 Days Without An Incident” after Rick comes back to the prison after dealing with Clara the woman in the woods, Hershel says what is a very important line in my opinion. That line is Rick says something along the lines of: “if I lost Carl, Judith, this place. I’d probably end up like her.” And Hershel responds “not even then, Rick.” So to me, that one line, perfectly set up Carl’s death later on, showing that Rick could overcome even the worst thing that could possibly happen to him. That’s why I think Carl’s death worked…but only if the show ended with season 8. It would have been very poetic if the show ended in season 8. But by it going on…by it going on without Rick AND Carl, Carl’s death doesn’t work and the show doesn’t work. The franchise has completely gone down hill unfortunately. The only thing I can think of saving it, is one last big collab show, where what Major General guy from The Ones Who Live said about the “human civilization only has 14 years left on this earth, due to lack of resources” actually being true, and everyone on earth completely unites and solves a way around that, ending the walkers completely.
Thank you for the insight i didn’t know about that Hershel line it’s very interesting, I totally agree with you. What I think they should have done is set up the CRM in season in season 1 of TOWL and have a season 2 where the whole cast come together to defeat the CRM with Morgan coming back Daryl and Rick reuniting and all the others take down the CRM over the course of 6 episodes rather than what actually happened in TOWL where Rick and michonne take about the entire army in 20 mins 💀😭
I really appreciate this video, im a diehard twd defender and probably will be till the day I die, and it just feels like at this point im in the minority of people who still loves the universe flaws and all, thank you for this vid bro
To me the show would have had a great ending on no way out. Alexandria finally takes ricks as their leader and fights alongside him, rick’s talk with Carl about the future being his, and the screen fades to black as soon as Carl’s hand moves.
Robert Kirkman actually said in an interview that he almost ended the comics after No Way Out. There would have been a big flash forward to the future showing an abandoned Alexandria with a giant Rick Grimes statue. Another ending he considered was when the group first arrives to Alexandria and finally finds a place where they will be safe.
The show should have ended with the group making it to Alexandria. Negan and the whisperers were fine (to me incredibly overrated) but the story was nearly perfect up until season six and ending with the group together again in Alexandria would have been fantastic.
@@theohuntt it's where I would stop it if I ever watch it with my girlfriend. Fairly close to a perfect ending and I think what few loose ends there might be wouldn't make it feel incomplete IMO.
I havent watched the Daryl spin-off yet, but I've heard hes going to Spain now? Is a Daryl and Rick renunion even possible anymore? Everything is just spread so thin 😔 Great video though bro, love the channel 👌
İt eould be cool if the humanity would come together after ricks great speech. The last scene of the last episode would be in a school were children would learn rick and carls grimes storys in their history book
Great video bro! I personally loved the walking dead from beginning to end, sure the story’s weren’t as peak as earlier on, but I still enjoyed it soo much. It’s such a different show than others it’s crazy. Ending it at S8 would’ve been good but I’m greatful we got more, S9 Btw is really underrated.
Im one of those people who absolutely thinks Wrath should have been the final episode. And agree whole heartedly it would have made certain producer decisions like Carls death largely forgivable. The show, for all intents and purposes, was Ricks story. Didnt need to go beyond that. Or if it did, gamble on a series that is completely seperated from the main show and explore other ideas, dynamics and locations. Like Fear was until it wasn't
It is, voted greatest animated show of the 2010s has some of the highest critics scores of any show of all time just because it’s a kid show doesn’t mean it’s not great :)
Season 3 finale Season 4 mid finale Season 5 finale Season 6 Episode 9 Season 8 Finale the most conclusion to the series. Season 9 Episode 5 Season 11 finale TOWL Finale which is where I’m done now. These to me are ending points Season 8 was the closest to an ending
Amazing opening montage, great choices made on scenes/dialogue and great analysis hitting the nail on the head in every point made about prime TWD, my favorite show of all time. Respectfully aha, this is for sure your best video in the in the last 2-3 months. Back to the interesting format, vibe, and overall strong takes that brought me such interest/intrigue in your channel in the first place, brother. 🙌🏻
I just recently finished the walking dead a couple days ago and my opinion is that the walking dead should’ve ended with Rick blowing up the bridge. Rick should’ve died on the bridge as he says “I’ve found them” or something like that. It would nicely wrap up Rick’s story of him finding his family.
I think the dream scenes from being the saviors should have been the end. Carl is dead, rick rebuilds the communities and faith within people and it shows. Even Negan is helping and playing with Jude. Perfect place. You can rewatch the entire series and stop with beating the saviors, pickup again at season 9.6 or whenever the new folks like Kelly and Connie show up and be completely up to it. So many filler episodes were junk and left us nothing not even a clue.
What I always loved about TWD is the ideas it presents. It kinda makes the argument that those classic George A. Romero movies did, where you could argue things are better this way. I think there's a scene in season 11 when they're in the tunnels, and Maggie finds an old protest sign that says stop racism now, and at that point racism is pretty much nonexistent and it's just one example of how the world before wasn't perfect either.
I simply look at the walking dead as 2 separate shows. Season 1 to season 5 episode 11. Then episode 12 to the end. That's the perfect cut off point which allows closure to the story that was. Everything after that is a sequel to me
In my opinion the main series should have ended after 6x9. It would have been better to make a spin-off of Negan, from the start of the apocalypse to the Sanctuary.
Great video as always, my dude. The walking dead will always hold a dear place in my heart and it's really sad to see the way the show is treated, lmao. I do agree with you that an animated series would be nice, but I really hope that Scott Gimple doesn't get to write it. Also, world beyond sucked. It took me a while to watch the first season (because it was so boring), and when I finally finished that crap, I discovered that it had a second season. Like, how??? That's some money laundering kind of shit, no one liked world beyond that much to justify a second season.
Thank you so much for the kind words, I do agree if Scott gimple gets his hands on that animated series I could be bad news haahah! And yeah fr how does world beyond have 2 seasons 😭😭😭
World Beyond. I feel like they as in the people in charge ran out of ideas for this spin off and decided to straight do...the...typical zombie video game and those sh1tty zombie movies cliche. Add in Mutant zombies and acid zombies. What's the next spin off? In UK the zombies run really fast and turn you into one of them within 30 seconds?? In China..what?Jiangshi zombies? Lol. What? In South Korea the zombies can't see in the darkness? Spin off in Australia the walker dip their heads in the dirt?
I love the early season of Fear there vibe is just so unique and it was refreshing to see also the absolute goat that is Nick Clark is in the early seasons!
Fun story. I watched fear on a tv while I was living in a cheap motel. Got all the way til season 2 episode like 6 or 7. Years later I am telling my wife we need to buy the dvd sets (as we were buying twd's anyway). Honestly I was HEAVILY disappointed in FTWD where I finally got caught up. I think it was chris that kinda ruined it but was hoping for a redemption arc... yeah oh well. And then my boy travis died which made me really not like the show but season 4 was 100% my final straw. Sold or threw away the dvds. Show was good in the first season and most of the first half of the second season was good the rest was falling off imo.
Fear (1-3) had potential to be as good if not better than the main show. If they overlapped Nick and Maddison with the main show (whisperers arc) it could’ve been the best show of all time.
You're right TV shows like avatar The last Airbender, breaking bad, The sopranos and gravity falls know not over stay there welcome and drag on for too long. Put AMC got greedy and ordered a billion seasons and look what happened 😂
You never seen it replicated because gatekeepers won't allow it. I am sure there are stories that were pitched that is probably ten times better than Walking Dead, but without any connections, these stories and ideas are either casted aside or straight up stolen. Never seen it replicated....If you haven't noticed, we get the same stories told to us in a little bit of a different way, which is why all these mainstream shows usually have something that'll remind you of something else. GATEKEEPERS, YO.
I feel like twd universe has now turned into crazy fan fiction. I can picture random ppl just going to Gimple saying “make Daryl end up in France” “make Negan and Maggie go NY together even though they should not be allowed in the same room” “make Rick and Michonne fall in love once again and go back to their family” “let’s fuck up fear and add some of the worst characters in history. Let’s see just how much we can ruin it” I won’t even go there with Tales and WB. These writers are in no way capable and a bunch of children could write a better story.
7:45 it's at this point in the video where i feel like you lose sight of the franchise and the significance of timing. Every story starts somewhere. TWD and Rick's story of survival began in 2003. World Beyond was 10 years into a TV adaptation's story. When watching the TV canon, keep in mind that you're not speaking to MCU or Star Wars fans. From Days Gone By until the final second we spend watching the canon on a screen, we're watching the spin off. There's a story beneath the one in continuation. Some of you TWD youtubers fail to see that
Yeah just because your happy to absorb every single piece of media the franchise puts out doesn’t change the fact that for an average fan it’s far too much content and quite overwhelming, TWD is my favourite show of all time but I’m allowed to have opinions on not liking some of the spin offs. Just because there’s a story behind each one doesn’t make it a good or an enjoyable one. Your entitled to your opinion but your saying I’m not allowed to have mine because I haven’t watched a notoriously bad spin off in world beyond?
world beyond is not that bad. I mean if you accept the fact that it is basically ran by teenagers who are supposedly as strong as prime Shane, then you might enjoy the story of Omaha. ps. i live in Omaha so I'm biased.
I stopped watching the Daryl show season 2, episode 2 I can’t watch it anymore but I seen all of original TWD, Fear TWD and TWD dead city I only saw 2 episodes of the ones who lives
Imo there isn't really marvel or star wars fatigue. Just shit movies and shows, sometimes there are one or two good projects but both went HEAVILY downhill. That's why rewatching the early seasons of twd, the early movies of the MCU and the first 6 movies of star wars doesn't really get boring. 6x9 - no way out, the final “fight” scene is amazing, perfect end to the arc
8x16 - like you said
9x5 - my personal favorite
Yeah you are very right so many places where it felt like the story had come to a natural conclusion

The biggest f--k up TWD ever did was losing Frank Darabont.
Yeah the frank Darabont era was elite and the zombies were way more scary
I can only imagine how incredible a full series by Darabont would have been

They were definitely on crack when they made Season 8. What were they thinking? Season 8 was when I stopped watching. Killing off Carl was so stupid.
Great video bro! I personally loved the walking dead from beginning to end, sure the story’s weren’t as peak as earlier on, but I still enjoyed it soo much.
