Saw New Order twice in Perth , never seen anybody work the drums as much as Stephen ...Amazing to see and hear such a talented drummer. I Also grew up listening to Kraut Rock and Frank Zappa and other off the wall bands
Yes that is true but being similar to a drum machine there is very little feel. Once technique has been reached to a certain standard it is then all about feel. If you do not know what I mean listen to John Bonham so yes drum machines and those that emulate them have good timing but that metronome style lacks feel. Feel is what sets drummers apart from each other.
misfit sure I get that he isn't a great drummer in that sense but I think the style of drumming he plays is part of what gave joy division such a unique sound. It's also especially suited to new orders electronic sound.
I would definitely say he was a great drummer in Joy Division if only for this - You play me the drum line of ANY Joy Div song and I know which song it is immediately - no other band has ever had such definitive and crucial drum lines to their songs.
After Seeing Joy Division & New Order Many Times, Stephen Morris IS What keeps It all Together.
great musician and he strikes me as a pretty nice guy too..
Superb drummer and geezer
THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD.
I bloody love this man

What’s the only consolation of having a drummer practicing next door? It’s Stephen Morris
I always thought Stephen came across as the sensible one. It turn out he was a druggy drop out too!
"Drugs, drink.....drugs, go back to me house and watch Frankenstein"
"they don't like you tripping in English...🤣🤣🤣
I love his tastes in music ! Amazing I love Can, Captain Beefheart, Jefferson Airplane and stuff like that ! Never new that..
He’s got a great name ;)

Every one is scared of the drums because they're difficult!
Damn straight. I can't wrap my mind around drums AT ALL. That and it seems a little too much like exercise.
He could have been Stephen M, multi platinum clarinetist beating Kenny G by a mile
Cheers Martyn, looking forward to part II. ( www.thegreenwichbarber,com )
40 years in the box and he still can't look a camera.
No wonder Steve was so nervous as per Hooker! He was on all those drugs 💉. All we had was cocaine and acid when I was growing up
The lovely persian meteorologically force because napkin computationally knock apropos a bloody seagull. damaged, little packet
Good timekeeping but not a great drummer by great drummer standards which I am sure he would agree.
He's a great drummer in the sense that he's like a human drum machine. Never misses a beat
