Considering he was influenced by all of those classic rock musicians, and then some, it is no wonder why he is so damn good. He was never afraid to be influenced by disco, or add drum machine under his own drums, etc. He's about as un-pretentious as they come. A true drum geek.
A brilliant and un-derated drummer, his drum sound with Joy division was amazingly powerful, some of the power was lost by Martin Hannetts production, which was a real shame.
Somehow he stayed thin while Barney and Hooky got fat! (Sorry B.A.D.). Well drummers do stay in shape. He and Gillian always maintained their dignity as well.
Absolutely, I'm looking forward to his book, I think its out next year. Hooky and Bernard obviously hate each other, Steve's remained pretty quite so I'm hoping we get a really unbiased book, but I'm not sure that's likely.
I think that Stephen's humor will endear him to New Order fans even more if his book comes out. Plus I would love to find out how he first met Gillian and what they've done to make their relationship last all these years in the music business.
zephyra Yes, there was a purity to what those bands were doing. They didn't really have a career planned out for themselves. It was trying to get out of the situations they were in. And there was a comradely between them. Really, the late 70's and 80's were the last vanguard of innovative music. There's been a few bands since then but not the wellspring of hunger and creativity that the Manchester musicians had.
Easily the most underappreciated member of Joy Division/New Order. In his second book, he tells the story of enraged fans asking him for a pen so they could run off and get Hooky's autograph. The 'Morris invisibility', as he puts it.
Stephen has always been a very underrated drummer in a world where the "best" are always from classic rock.
so true. the rolling stone greatest musician lists are always very classic rock biased in my opinion
Absolutely!

He's a brilliant drummer who creates a brilliant rhythm I wish more drummers played like him.
Best Frickin drummer ever, after seeing New Order twice in the 80s his hands were a blur, i am also biased, Steve is fantastic.
Best Frickin drummer indeed!!
AWESOME
Best drummer ever. No doubt about it. He's a machine.
What?
Obviously you are not into music. Steve may be a nice bloke but as for drumming, average at best. the drumming on this video is sloppy as fuck.
You're a bit thick, aren't you.
Once again you are making a comment on something you know nothing about.
Go and play with your crayons and let the grown ups have a conversation here.
That would be difficult with you as you don't know what you are talking about.
May I borrow your crayons please?
Brilliant vibe to his drumming!
Stephen 'human Oberheim' Morris.
World class drummer
This is so inspiring
Man Machine

Didn't know he was "un-derated", by whom, the taxman?
Yes, but Hannett's production was what set them apart and made them legendary.
@@thegreenbastard5171 the taxman certainly didn't underrate them.
great video..nice to see hooky, gillian, stephen and tony all together
If I pulled off any of this stuff behind a kit I'd retire and call it my best work. This is just a warmup for him.
Fooking master of drum riffing
Weird to think this was less than a month after I was born, September 8th, 1987, just weird to put that in perspective I guess, personally
Steve - you are a continuing inspiration to a fellow maxonian.
Hooky's daughter looks freaking amazed by Stephen.
Tony Wilson just passing through at 4:20
what a beast
a Complete Human Drum Machine 😎🔥
Freaking human metronome
4:23 holy fuck

That is awesome.

Hooky and his daughter....v coot

Morris has faster hands than Canelo Alvarez. What a talent.
Love this but I don’t think it’s rehearsal i think it’s sampling
Such an under-rated drummer. The downside to being new wave with lots of samples and synthesizers.
No downside at all and they were an electronic rock band from the start.
Manchester Music & M9 Kidz book Doreen Curtis Factory Records
I was earning £18 a week lmao
…maybe he was a bit underutilized
