It wasn't all that long ago-2012 to be exact-that Yamaha surprised us all with the THR10, which I called "one of the most impressive recording and practice amps I've ever played."
Like The Matrix, Yamaha has released its part two and three sequels in close succession, but unlike The Matrix, the company's two new THR10C and THR10X amps are just as good, if not better, than their predecessor.
Whereas the THR10 was designed to provide sort of a "one-size-fits-all" assortment of tones, the THR10C and THR10X offer amp and effect models targeted for more specific playing styles.
The THR10C delivers classic amp tones that a re ideal for blues, country and classic rock, while the THR10X focuses on the high-gain territory that metal and hard rock players prefer. Like the original THR10, both are compact, portable and versatile amps packed with features like preset storage, USB connectivity, AC- or battery-powered operation, "extended stereo" output, detailed editing via THR Editor software and much more.
It doesn't matter what Yamaha do- pianos, motorbikes, boat motors, guitars they are always good to great products!
fer sure lads!
and yo mommas
Only company to be this good at so many products
I could not agree more. My friend in Jr high had a Yamaha strat style guitar, really nice playing guitar, fast neck and sounded great. I had a Yamaha car audio power amp in the early 90's YPA 700?... it was super clean power and was a work horse. I have some older Yamaha rack gear, GEP50, SPX90-II, REV7, and they are really awesome units. Add in a WR250R dual sport and I have to say, spot on.... Yamaha is bad ass at everything they do.
Yamaha SG guitar... Yamaha DX-7 synth...... Yamaha silent guitars.........
Bought the THR10X today, and it is FANTASTIC!
Do you need a extra speaker to plug in the thr10x or does it already have a speaker in jt
@@sahalez_714 It has its own speaker.
I have the THR10C and I love it. You could not ask for any more in a practice amp that is about the size of a large toaster! The sound is much nicer than you can hear in this review.
It's impressive how Guitar World can make any amp sound HORRIBLE whereas it sounds good on any other channel...
@Bobbo Beats you don't see that mic on the right?
Nice to see Badger from Breaking Bad get a real job.
hahahaha
I was thinking more like Billy Joel..
Ha brilliant can’t believe I never saw it 🤦♂️
hard to see that for me. the different nose..
It's Paul from Guitar World, a salesman who plays guitar. I'd suggest anyone thinking of buying one look to youtube for musicians that use them. This vid doesn't do justice. I own all three, 10, 10C, and 10X. These amps are the cats pajamas. And with the THR editing software, the slippers too.
+Michael Schieds Can you use the amp in other softwares? Like Pro Tools or Logic Pro for example?
Yes. I use Soundforge...they're plug and play
+Michael Schieds so can the thrc do anything the thrx cant?
I'd start with the THR, it covers both low gain, and high gain amps. THRC is all low gain amps, plays really nice with pedals. THRX all high gain amps, sounds authentic, and no outboard stomps needed.
Michael Schieds
can you get a decent blues crunch tone with the 10x?
i have the THR10C, and i really really like it, i use it as a practice amp, and a pc soundcard, i use it with the flat settings and with my pedals, it works great! and sounds awesome! The effects are amazing espec. the reverb effects, hear the hall effect and spring, and you will agree.
Beautiful tones!!!
Please everyone that is interested in buying this amp watch keith merrows and jeff loomis' playthrough with the green (high gain) one. They make this thing sound massive.
Nice job Paul. The recorded sound is much better this time. I have one of the standard THR10's and highly recommend it. Worth every penny.
The reverb on this thing is what's most impressive.
I just heard the released a THC420C at the Denver Guitar Center, with an enhanced presence control knob to help dial in the rocky mountain high tones.
Nicely done,Yamaha!
I don’t understand how little 4 or 5 inch speakers can sound as good or better than the 8” and sometimes 10” speakers in most small 15 or 20 watt practice amps. It just doesn’t seem physically possible.
What the fuck? These things sound pretty damn good. I can see myself getting that 10X in the future.
Can anyone tell me if there is any big difference from the THR10C to the usual THR10 (that white one)? Both sound quite similar as far as I'm concerned.
Depends on what you like I guess. I personally own the bogner 30 watt mini, and I've never heard anything that sounds as badass.
Best AMP for beginners!
thr10x which i have is best-u can adjust settings for all kinds of tones from van halen, soundgarden, the bass gives a lemmy tone or you can swich to clean and add one effect like a phaser or tremelo for a rich, thick vintage tone. so portable too! definitley the one to pick!
Is it reasonably loud? I realize it's not for jamming with others but is the sound reasonably "big" or does it sound like it's coming out of a radio? I'm really impressed so far.
Jason Desjardins it's more than loud! I used to have volume at bout two ( don't have any more) and that was more than enough! yeah volume is covered!
Jason Desjardins i have giggeg with it (thr10x). Best sound i have ever had at a gig. Used two sm57's pointing at each of the speakers, had the sound guy run it in stereo, and add the sound of it through the monitors as well. Best gigs i have played and everyone was complementing my tone, they couldn't believe it was coming out of such a little device. After the second gig i saw no more need for my jcm 900 and my pedals.
SuperDimeslime333 can you tell me where software is at ?
Nice Tone
Wow! Cool demo!
Get the X. It can do everything the C does, plus high gain. I owned both, onsold the C within a week as it was pointless owning it.
Thank u so much...
Just dial down the gain and adjust the eq and the 10x will achieve any tone you want!
Wrong. the "X" has a more sensible gain knob, like the cream version, but with more gain output. You wont get the same tones with both.
They're actually a pair of 4" not 8" speakers.
can i plug this to my other combo amps....clean channel?
so if I just buy any amp I come across it will be better the my line 6 that was gifted to me.
thanks for the demo. I just ordered a thr10x. hope to see it this week. What cab/speakers are you playing through?
Could you explain in detail your setup. What microphone and amp or PA are you pushing this through? Sounds great! Keep on jamn'! Thanks
Can the X do blues and rock well? Or just high gain metal. Id like to have the ability to do each.
Bought the THR10X, sent it back the next day.
Ireland
+xiaobaozha eh?
2 years later and your comment remains useless. Don't be an idiot, detail what you sent it back stupid head.
SOUND GOOD TO ME.THANK YOU!
can we connect a half stack to it ?
It's a head...
Cody Wolf no, it’s a combo
this seems like a great recording tool. am I correct?
when are they going to do a real review of the Positivegrid Spark........and a shootout between it and these yamahas
3:32 Stereo 8 inch speakers? Incorrect!
The case is only 6 inches high.
Getting the X!! Great!!
Hello Guitar World, would you kindly provide guitar tab for those demos, please?
Frankie the frog knew how to rock in his day. He made it look as easy as floating on a Lilly pad
Ohhhh Fuck yeah I think I might get one! I saw this a month ago satchel did a video for it..he was back stage fucking around.Fuckin comedy he sounded great I went straight to guitar center to play one and loved it....
LOVE MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No foot switching for changing between presets and tuner ?
THR10C or TRH10ii for clean breakup boutique tone?
I don't care what anyone says the tone from 5:18 to 5:38 was pretty good vary kinda 70's rock when it was upbeat and everyone was using superleads and les Paul's
Also I've noticed that if you leave the master cranked on the amp you can use the volume on the guitar to alter your tone without hollowing out the sound. They should pay me to do a review on the amp! Lol
I'm sorry to say people have known about that trick for almost 50 years now.
Actually, it is been known for roughly 60 years: have you forgotten Fender's tweed period?
Can I use the phone 1/4 jack and plug into Direct Box so I can play through the PA??? Does it have the quality and power to go through the PA??
Why mic'ed up rather than recorded directly via USB?
because when you buy this amp you are going to hear she speakers, you are not going to plug the usb into your head to listen to it.
Macsk8ing Fair enough, but mic'ed up it sounds different from what you hear as well. However, when you record stuff you're very likely to use the USB out. That said, they should've dedicated a minute to the USB out mode.
Hey guys , is it true that i can't connect it to a cab or a speaker emulator ?
Does the phones output let me send a good enough signal to the front of house ?
Thanx !
Is it loud enough to practice with a drummer? Not gig, just practice.
Provided your drummer isn't too heavy handed or footed it should be able to hold its own, if the drummer gets too into it though it will start to drown out a little 10W amp.
Were those stock presets Brother?
After my last computer amp ill keep the effects on the floor thanks
I would be a lot more interesting if it could plug into a cab
Is this suitable for busking?
Can you run an external cab to this?
Good
8 inch speakers? i thnk theyre 3 inches
I have a 10x and I'm almost 50.
I have both and I'm 67 :0)
I'm 1052 years old and have no hemorrhoids. Ask me how.
8" speakers ?
i wanted to find a video with all the presets for the distortion of the thr10 x : ok next lol
Two 3" speakers not 8".
How do i conecta this to a PA ?
But There Not 8 inch Speakers in there
Anybody have link to software 10x??
If u want gain get X. I have both. C is being sold. Very low gain.
Does this Amp need to be connected to a Cabinet?
I live in a small Apartment and... As much as I want a huge Marshall Stack... Its just not gonna happen. So if I can play this though some Phones then for ~160.00€. I'd be damned interested in getting me a THR10C...
They're stereo combos. no cabinet needed.
Yeah I noticed that, too late though... But for the size and sound I have to say I'm impressed... As anything bigger just wouldn't work in my current situation. And it already sounds better then my Zoom 9002 Pro.
3:30 ...... and they have stereo 8 inch speakers ?? .
WRONG !! .... those are 3.5 inch speakers.
8 inch speakers can not fit inside the cabinet.
i really want them to finally get a different guitarist.. at least for the high gain stuff. grab ola englund, someone please. his metal play makes me cringe inside. the other stuff sounds good, great guitarist just dont make him play what isnt him ya know? it's like making meshugga play nickleback, just dont doesnt go together.
+Trevor Sellers Ola actually did a test on this same amp.
I am also not a huge fan of Paul's playing, he's a good salesman, and extra kudos for nailing that "just hatched chicken" look.
+Descent Madness you see how ago long I commented that? I know Ola posted one.. that video is old now.
Can anyone tell me if the THR 10X is reasonably loud? I realize it's not loud enough to jam with the band but is the sound reasonably "big" or does it sound like it's coming out of a radio (for lack of a better term)? I'm really impressed so far and am almost ready to pull the trigger.
mine arrived just today...me and my dad wondered the same thing since it looks like a radio or a can...it doesnt sound anything like that...it can be pretty loud for a bedroom practice...
Jason Desjardins yes it is, you should try it in stores
Louder than you would imagine for the size.
Wow
8 inch speakers? Not!
I think they are 8cm. They got their units mixed up.
Mine are 8 feet! LOL!
You're right. guitar world needs to pay attention to the details more!!!!
8cm = 3.5 '' diameter. But sounds great either way.
Jason Crownover
Nice design, good versatility, excellent demonstration and not too expensive but the sound is too digital, without depth even with reverb/delay, without timbre and too much "flat" sound. Sorry but I don't like this amp
i think its just the demo giving you that impression, search around for some official yamaha ones before you decide
EGGJAZZ I agree that you can't judge by a video, yet the video should show it at it's best. In this too many fx and no real guts which maybe a personal preference on my part but the video should showcase that. Yamaha has made some very good amps in the past so I wouldn't let this review stop me from going and actually playing one...it just doesn't get me in the mood.
The noise gate on this video is really annoying.
They've been doing it for years, super annoying.
3" speaker ?????????????????????
nice hair did u just wake up?
No ads ever at WATCHKIN.COM
I remember back when I was younger and actually had a subscription to Guitar World, I would always laugh at this dudes reviews. Paul always played boomer music through every single amp he demoed. Dude could be sitting there with an ESP and triple rectifier and he'll play like some Sweet Home Alabama copyright free ripoff lol.
"Here's some of that chunky distortion you metalheads love so much."
*incorrectly plays an AC/DC riff*
its only 7 and a half inches Tall
Didn't sound good to me. Sounds like the speakers are fried.
Ola demos the original, definitely doesn't sound like shit!
What? Stereo, 8 inch speakers? Methinks the fella has misspoken.
Please stop touching the gear like a "The Price is RIght model". I won't bash your playing, but come one. You can't go through the different pickups on the guitar to give an idea of how they sound? No mention of any indication of what presets you are using? Just bad.
next time tell people what your actually playing like the Dr Z with .................
I really wanted to like this, but these amps sound horrible.
"C" version DECENT review: ua-cam.com/video/EMEzE6D7cJI/v-deo.html
Meh, sounds like a guitar played through a transistor radio
4 year old amp. Come on Yamaha times have changed and so has amp modeling....time to innovat again
Sorry , this is a disappointing review, not enough detail info. on the Thr- C . Will have to
go elsewhere. You're a good guitar player, but I wanted more of a review of the thr-amps.
Guitar World, focus on the subject better next time. !!
Another lousy demo, didn't do justice by any means
Worse sound I've ever heard. Sound better at home???
You guys need to learn how to review stuff ... USE A DAMN STRATOCASTER TOO FFS
