    Just echoing gratitude...you are providing help for people who can't afford hairdressers anymore. My medication went up by several hundred dollars a month, but I still don't want to look like crap. People at beauty supply stores are flat-out HOSTILE about it when you ask them for help, too. So this is a really wonderful thing you're doing for those of us who can't spend 100 bucks a month on our hair anymore. Thank you, thank you thank you thank you thank you!

    Personally, I went to beauty school and after I graduated and started up in a salon I felt so lost. My school didn't teach us much, basically just enough to make sure we'd pass our exam and keep their graduation stats up. I love your videos and have learned more through watching your videos than I ever did in school. The hairdressers who criticize you should realize that you're not just helping people who haven't gone to school, but you're also helping those of us who have. I think it's good to always continue your education in the industry that you love, and that's what you're helping a lot of us do! :)

      +Lacey Kozelouzek I went to a school to get my hair coloredand cut for the first time ever, well second I guess about 43 yrs ago I went to my mothers school when she was in so I had an idea of how it worked ,but I put to much faith in it because the teacher would just tell her little snips of the process roots gray cover light brown and then a heavy highlight she didn't give her tips on how to blend it around the face etc so it ended up looked like a leapord and purple stains all over my neck and face.i still gave the girl a tip because she tried so hard but her teacher really failed her. now im doing it myself from silvias direction

      @@mariarosenberg2222 Please help!
      I've only done my hair once myself. I love it! I've paid hundreds to get what I didn't want, or worse, orange hair!
      QUESTION: I did it in stages all over with Baking soda/peroxide/conditioner/salt (to open the hair shaft. Then toned with Wella/Vol 20.
      Now I need to touch it up. My natural
      hair is different colors, the temples have so much silver they blend in & the back is dark.
      I'm wondering if bleach will be more damaging to that fragile silver hair? And I damaged it in one small spot by over processing it & not conditioning between colorings. I like the peroxide because I can easily see what color my hair is in stages....since I don't know what I'm doing.
      I think it's a Level 6 at the darkest. No hairdresser has ever said I needed 2 sessions or damaged my hair, so I'm assuming it's no darker than Level 6, ranging to Level 10 (silver is translucent).
      There was product all over the bathroom, I don't think I'm capable of foils, especially in the back!
      But I can't get any product on my previously done hair, in my quest to be rid of any brassiness, it's quite light enough. I use Ion purple shampoo & conditioner & a heavy conditioner then shine serum.
      THANKS♥️

    Thank you so much for all of your posts. I moved to a small town and have been through several salons and no luck with a good colorist. You saved me from going natural. I would drive three hours for an appointment, which I will still do, but this carries me in-between appointments.

      @MIA I think you can get them at Sally's. If not, you can get products as good or better. Everyone loves Wella toner, that's what I use.
      I don't think she would suggest DIY with products unavailable to the public.
      Sally's is awesome, I know they carry Redken, so I'm assuming they carry the specific products she uses.
      You don't need the exact shades she uses unless your natural haircolor is the exact shade of hers.....if not, it will come out over or under processed. . Peace!

    That's so awesome that u share your tips & tricks with us bc not everyone can afford to c a stylist, especially if u wanna keep up with being a blonde from root to tip bc that's every 4 weeks then visiting a stylist. (Bc every 4-6 weeks at home is definitely cheaper as long as u know how to correctly do it yourself). So thank u for your honesty & sharing with us even tho you are a professional & don't have to!

    I just want to say thank you for making these videos! I've learned so much from you, and I constantly get asked where I get my hair done. Nobody believes me when I say I cut and colour it myself. Hairdressers in Norway are just too expensive for a poor student to afford!

      eenish i totally hear you! I went from dark brunette to pale blonde which needs touch ups and this will cost you a bunch getting it done every 3 weeks. +eenish I Agree, also here in Italy highlights in the salon are just to expensive and you know, blonde is addictive, you always want more and more and costs a lot of money. Most of the time I wasn't even satisfied with the salon results, so I think this girl is really helpful and prepared

    • @ivoryvignettes

      haha a year later I still have to say: I'm still happy with getting my hair blonde at home. Also my hair looks healthy thanks to olaplex and pro naturals, if anybody is still looking for products for bleached hair. I mean, it's an effort to get your dark hair blonde and keep the damage to a minimum but it's worth it! I'm glad I saved so much money (about 600 bucks a year). Stil have to say: Professionals are still likely to be better at it, especially when it comes to toning. Toning or dying bleached hair can be difficult, so I give credit here for sure!

      +ellebangs I have a question about bleaching. I use to have an ash brown box color for a year and a few months ago I did a bleach wash because I wanted to go blond, but I leave it in a golden/orange stage and have been waiting to bath bleach for a second time. But now I have regrowth, how will I make all my hair lighter now? 🙈 I'm scared of how the roots will turn out.. What would you recommend me to do? I'm a natural ash level 5.

    • @gymnast2890
      @gymnast2890 5 років тому

      @@Itz_Maxwell I did that. I see it's 2 yrs ago. My new growth turned orangy because I waited 2 weeks to tone it (Wella & Volume 20).
      I'm doing about 2 months of growth now....this will be tricky to fix! I guess I won't leave the toner on those sections as long as the rest... fingers crossed!
      Can you tell me what you did & how it worked?

    I agree with you, it's so expense to get your highlights and touch up (I have to do mine every three weeks! Ouch) So, thank you! Really helps. As far as hairdressers being pissed about your channel, bring your prices back to normal! $60-80 for a root touch up is ridic. I have to do my roots every 3 weeks. Too much of my money making others rich. Keep up the good work Elle

    Nice to have a pro doing a video. I do not really want to do my hair at home and prefer the salon, but due to disability and less places cutting off access, it's become my only option. it's just like the off grid stuff-there are so many on youtube who will show you how to do it wrong, that it's good to find one that can help those w/ no option other than DIY.

    Sylvia you are so talented and thank you so much for all of the information!!I have to start learning how to do my own hair. I have gone to five hairstylists in two years trying to get the perfect highlights and something always goes wrong. The one stylist who did a wonderful job moved so far away that it’s impossible for me to get to her without making it a complete day trip every four weeks. Now with the pandemic it’s even more than difficult. I have a medium-light brown base with 25% gray. My base has always been lightened to a level six before applying highlights. I recently went to a new salon and she lowered my base to a very dark almost level five and applied very light highlights. I do not like the contrast. When I went back for a touchup she just touched up the base color essentially erasing the highlighted roots about 2 inches. The demarcation is awful and I lost all brightness around my face. I need to fix this! I want to do it on my own. Do you have any advice or videos for brunettes with highlights? Also, why is it that when you get your first highlights and then you go back for a root touchup -they only touch up your roots with the base color and not touch up the highlights? This is something that I always experience in New York City? Is this an Industry standard for salons? Thank you so much!

    Silvia, I have a question. It seems like the shade you currently have is more complimentary to your skin than the one in this video. Why is that? And how can we achieve that? I have more of a neutral skin tone but am struggling to find the right balance of warmth and cool? Please let me know if you already have a video discussing this? I love your content, and have been binge watching it the last few months.

    You make it look so easy, I am older - 56 so my roots are growing thru with grey - prob all grey then I have highlighted hair, although my natural color is dark brown, where do I start if grey is involved????

      That's my problem. Dark hair with about 40-50% grey, with blonde highlights. Ugh.

    Hi Sylvia, I love the idea of a kit... Not sure where to buy it? I'm not a professional. Can you help?

  • @shruffles35
    @shruffles35 9 років тому +2

    I'm pretty sure you can add blue pigment to liquid coconut oil, and add a bit to any bleach mix and get the same amazing soft results for a fraction of the cost. It's just adding moisture back into the hair, and canceling out brassy tones. You are so awesome!!

    • @shruffles35
      @shruffles35 7 років тому +1

      Okay, so I tried my own idea and yes, it worked amazing! The only thing is the coconut oil weakens the power of the developer just a tiny bit. I normally use a 20 vol, and leave it on for 50 min (I am a level 6 naturally) so I mixed 50/50 a 20 vol with a 30 vol to get a 25 vol developer to offset the coconut oil. Leave on time the same. The moisture it added was almost akin to the AGEbeautiful hair lightening cream bleach for older hair, and again...at a fraction of the cost. I added about 2 tablespoons of oil (no blue pigment though) to a 3/4 cup bleach mix. Go for it ladies! It stopped the bleach from burning my scalp too in places I had slapped it straight onto my scalp.

    • @shruffles35
      @shruffles35 7 років тому

      It has to be fractionated coconut oil though (liquid form!!!)

    • @os2841
      @os2841 6 років тому

      Did you have to tone it after though? I like the idea of the toner being built in but I don't think they sell anything with blue/violet that you can actually add to oil without changing the chemistry?

    Hi Silvia, I have been doing my own hair now for over 6 years. I am not a licensed cosmetologist, just a girl on a tight budget and who LOVES to be creative on her own hair. How can I get a hold of the Blonde Idol Base Breaker and Highlift "P"? I have been using Color Brilliance HL/N-12.0 with 30 volume on my hair. I thought this Redken Product would be just what I have been waiting for! Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us. I am one of "those" girls who does her own hair. XOXO

    wow !! you only need to use 20vol with that highlift on ur level 5 base? its beautiful
    do you have any tips or tricks in choosing a highlift colour for an all over on scalp root retouch?
    its so confusing to pick just one to match the end colour? ... and at what point do u decide a normal tint will work with a 30vol rather than a highlift , thankyou

    I LOVE your channel and follow you on Instagram. I'm a brunette and have gone to stylists to get the perfect carmel balayage but they have failed. It always turns out very brassy. I've been curious to what formulas you've used on your clients in some of your photos and it would be amazing to see the videos! You're so talented, thank you for sharing!!

    Your hair grows so fast. It takes about 2 months for me to get that kind of regrowth. I guess that's an advantage because I have about level 3 hair naturally and I like being very light blonde. I thought the lower levels were darker colors? Like level 1 is black and level 10 is lightest blonde.

    I have gray hair with more of a blue tone to it and I love it so much but I also have a very dark root as well maybe a level 3 so do you have any advice on a more easy way to lighten the root without having to bleach too much? also a video on a safer hair to bleach roots would be awesome.

    Hi Sylvia, you are so beautiful in and out. I follow you everywhere, you can say I'm obsessed 😂 I'm stay home and I can't afford to get my roots touched up every 3 to 4 weeks,and this video is so helpful. My question is: I have a dark brown hair, level 4 I guess, I really like how ur hair turned out with the highllift "P". Do you suggest I use it with 20 developer like you did or may be 30 coz my hair is darker than yours. Thank you so much in advance😘😘

    This might seem like a silly question but here it goes. When you colour your hair and your roots start showing, are the roots a good way to measure how much your hair has grown since you last coloured it?

    Hi!!!! You are the BEST!! So you do the hi lift on the roots and then the bleach on the same day? What if there’s some brass on the mid & the ends? Can I just paint bleach on the brassy parts & then tone with a pearly toner?

    When you use the base breaker do you use the clear or cool? Thanks for doing this video, I'm blond but not happy with the colour it goes so I'm trying to get the colour I want and yours is the exact colour I'm after so I think I'm going to try this, I have never been to a salon to have my hair coloured only cut!

  • @kaci8611

    Isn't adding the highlights (3rd step) on top of the highlift (2nd step), the same as adding bleach on top of bleach? Plus, on the 3rd step, you're adding bleach on to the length of your hair as well and not just the root. Isn't all that very damaging? I'm only asking because I bleach my hair roots every 2 months with box dye and I've let my roots grow out quite a bit because I'm trying to decide a new way of dying to be more careful and to avoid as much damage as possible. Can we buy the redken color for home use?
