  • In this video I have modified my Harley Davidson Street 500 and put on lowered springs. The video shows exactly what is needed and how to do the job step by step. In total the job took no more than a hour to do and it makes the bikes stance so much lower and in my opinion look better.
    Keep in mind this does change the clearance under the motorbike, but if you get adjustable shocks you can play around with the adjustment to make your motorcycle lower but still handle the way you would like it to. The technique I have used in this video can be used on any cruiser style motorcycle from royal enfields to hondas and it will change the whole look of your bike and make it stand out!
    This is a DIY which can be done at home with a few tools and a little bit of know how, follow what i have done in this video and let me know what you think!

    What was the cost of the new shocks and where did you buy them. Looks really good. Thanks.

      @@thewhiskythrottleclub Thanks for that. I got me an 11" set and yeah, looks heaps better. Some wee little challengers, I was able to remove the bottom strut bolt without completely removing the exhaust. just backed off the 2 x bolts on the exhaust then used a bit held by a crescent that fits into the center of the bolt and was able to leverage that and a ring spanner on the other side. I got the inspiration from you brother and stoked with how it looks. Cheers man!!

      That’s awesome, nice work! how does it feel riding with them instead of stock? Cheers for that, glad my videos have to power to inspire people and give them the confidence to work on their bikes!

    Raise the tank. Give the appearance of lower bars and makes it look a heap tougher

    I could never work out why the Street 500 never came out with black rear shocks in the first place 🙄🤷‍♂️🤦‍♀️

      They look so much better in black, I reckon the shocks and all the bolts need to be black as well.

    They look so much better. Not sure if thats going to work on my bike as I've put on a fat back tyre. Drop bars, LED headlight, better grips and a custom seat should just about do it!

    You reduced the suspension travel and ground clearance. I hope you are blessed with good quality roads in your place.

      Unfortunately not, it did cause scraping but mainly on the exhaust heat shield

      It wasn’t too difficult at all. If you have the right tools it’s fairly easy and I would have done it in under a hour.

    My wifes is even lower than that. It has the lowered shocks set to lowest setting and then the springs cut.

    Hey mate is it of any concern that the lowered rear end, makes the bike more likely to tip over when you put down the jiffy stand?

    Are you able to put two into two exhaust pipes on

      Yeah 100%. You might need to give it a tune but you can absolutely do a two into two exhaust 👍🏼

      Surprisingly I didn’t find any issues with the kickstand, it still stood on it fine after being lowered a bit.

    how are the new shocks performing compared to stock?

    • @thewhiskythrottleclub
      @thewhiskythrottleclub  3 роки тому +1

      The clearance is a lot lower so it would scrape a lot easier but apart from that it didn’t change the performance too much

    • @thewhiskythrottleclub
      @thewhiskythrottleclub  Рік тому

      That’s a great question! I think your the first person to ask.
      The only reason is that it was the easier option, rather than disconnecting the battery to save the alarm going off or having the bike running while I was doing it.

    • @harikrishnannair5920
      @harikrishnannair5920 Рік тому

      @@thewhiskythrottleclub I thought turning the ignition off was a better option, considering you are just replacing a mechanical part and hopefully that does not require any electronic calibration.

    • @thewhiskythrottleclub
      @thewhiskythrottleclub  Рік тому

      You’re right, but the movement from changing the shocks can cause the alarm to go off if it’s not disabled so instead of manually disabling the alarm I just had it in the run position without the bike running. If the job took much longer I could have run the battery flat.
