120hz 1 frame 8.33ms
144hz 1 frame 6.94ms
240hz 1 frame 4.17ms
360hz 1 frame 2.78ms
480hz 1 frame 2.08ms
I would recommend to go from 60 to 144 and then to 360 those are the biggest jumps in motion clarity.
I haven't seen a single IPS panel that can keep up with the pixel response time of 2.08ms needed for 100% compliance on 480hz so if you are rich and a maniac you would have to buy a Zowie TN panel or OLED.
Tbh just jump to 240hz and stick to it until 500 to 1000 he becomes normal lmao
@@YounesMahfoud-vd2emyeah like 1000hz probably will be the last refresh rate upgrade anyway
@@Eclipse-u9d Nah~ Monitor manufacturers will release a 2000hz monitor and some morons out there will buy them and claim that they can see the difference. People are already doing it with 8K polling rate mice lol.
@@NyangisKhanI'm sure someone can do the math because the way response time is affected isn't linear. But you can even see a difference in motion clarity between 360 hz to 540. So I'm sure a hypothetical jump from 1000 to 2000 is notable. There is a noticble difference but Is it worth it? Fuck no. Mice polling rates are different in my opinion theres even worse diminishing returns.
@@shroomgerm I have several 8K mice Endgame OP1, Maya X , Viper V3 Pro, etc. To be honest is not worth to go above 4K the CPU consumption is way too high on 8K and that also affects the system overall latency which is no good for FPS games, my CPU is the 12700K tho it probably works better on something like 7800X3D - 9800X3D.

Recently tried a QLED TV and the blacks look incredible compared to my TN monitor. My next upgrade will definitely be an OLED monitor, it's a night and day difference in color reproduction.
@@Knox420 QLEDs do if they are miniled and have local dimming. Are you sl0w? Regardless, literally any panel tech look better than a TN.
Dont get OLED, brightness sucks, text clarity sucks (non-RGB subpixel layout) and worst of all, it only lasts 2-3 years before burn in happens. Dont listen to OLED fanboys, burn in is still a thing and is GUARANTEED to happen. Its not a matter of if but when. Burn in is inherent to OLED technology. There is no one who has an OLED for more than 5 years without burn in or some other panel degradation. If they say they have one, they are lying (OLED fanboys are good at that). Get a normal LCD if you plan on using your monitor for more than 3 years. Mini LED is the best since it has 90% as good blacks as OLED but lasts as long if not longer than normal LCD monitors. Btw, I have OLED so you know I'm not biased.

I had a 4:3 CRT monitor until 2010, I was fine until I upgraded to 144 later in 2010, it was world changing as I was playing competitive games, and I always wanted to be the best. Then 240Hz monitors came along, while I didn’t buy one myself, i tried them at a local gaming center where you could pay hourly to play, I noticed a difference but not to a degree where 144 wasn’t playable at all, I do as easily perform on 144 as I could on 240. Now in 2024 I do have a monitor that can hit 240, but only because that’s the lowest OLED monitors can hit. While I never enjoyed 60fps/hz to this day, OLED for some reason makes even 60 feel somewhat smooth compared to other panel types, this is my experience with monitors.
You didn't run your CRT on 100hz did ya?

Actually turning off vsync and letting the fps go wild massively reduces the response times from mouse click to monitor screen and the screen tearing isnt really a thing anymore atleast i havent experienced it after going from 60hz laptop ddr4 8gb 30fps to 144hz/165hz 1080p 144/165 to 500fps

Should I buy a 4K 144Hz IPS monitor or a 1440p 240Hz OLED monitor at 27 inches?
If you play a lot of single player games => 4k 144hz, competitive => 2k 240hz.
upd.: sry, for 27 inches just buy 2k monitor.
@@David-Gaming1337 Trust me, go for the oled, it is a HUGE difference to IPS, you won't regret it

@@kyrylobordiuh3996 Why would you buy a 2048x2048 monitor at 27"? A 4K monitor can do flawless scaling through integer down to 1080p. Regardless, the PPI at 27" is miles, miles, better than a 27" 1440p (which you meant to say) display.
The comments I was looking for to justify me spending 300€ extra!😅
I’ve recently upgraded to a MSI 341CQPX (240hz qdoled ultrawide) the motion clarity is amazing compared to my 165hz VA. Managed to get it brand new for “only” £650 which is great price for the UK.
Be careful with monitor and gpu ports. I wanted a real upgrade from QHD ultra wide 165hz ips to a 240hz UHD oled ultra wide and that can only be achieved with dp 2.1. No gpu has display port 2.1 and unfortunately Nvidia is rumored to have a dp 2.1 on 5000 series gpu(sucks for me as I just got 4070ti at release)
@@Haru_no_ki 🫵😂
No? DSC is a thing, sure it has issues, but it absolutely allows for 4k 240hz.
unless that monitor was the Odyssey Neo G9 (which is Mini LED, not OLED), then thats not true. With DSC you can run 4K 240Hz with either HDMI 2.1 or DP 1.4.
Sounds like finding the right cable saves you $500-$2000
Just got an acer xv273k v3. Really happy with it. Bought it off acer's ebay store, but it came with a stuck pixel
I ran into a weird situation with monitors as well. Bought a pc and 240 hz monitor at the same time. I play CS mainly so it was easy to hit. Then Valorant came out so I went to try it and I got about 160-235 fps in the game and they don't allow you to go below your max monitor refresh rate...I've upgraded my pc again and will be in the same boat again in maybe a year or two *shrug*
Budget monitors are within swinging distance of what the expensive monitors can do. Judging by the somewhat premium monitor I bought (as "Used - Acceptable" on Amazon), it's not night and day, and I don't miss it when I'm sneaking some gaming in on my parent's $100 random Acer 1080p60 monitor they bought years ago, on their Ryzen APU office PC. Okay, 120Hz+ has been nice. Good colors are nice to have (I think?), but whatever. I still enjoy gaming on anything that has a screen, pretty much.
Basic monitors are marvels of engineering already. Sure, fancier monitors are impressive, especially in theory, but the diminishing returns are massive when budget stuff is so good. My 2 cents.
If people want to geek out and splurge on that, more power to them I guess. But it's not essential IMO. I don't play multiplayer, so FPS above about 90-120Hz is probably wasted on me, but having had access to 240Hz I struggle to consciously tell a difference between that and 120, and I have often locked games to 120Hz for stability reasons and have enjoyed it quite a bit that way. (A lot of games are hard to run above 60FPS, let alone above 90 or 120!) Games that lock themselves to 60FPS are still very fun for me. I do believe there are benefits to "better tech", but they are increasingly situational the "better" the specs get.
I'd say anything 120Hz+, with a size and resolution that's practical for the intended use, it's very hard to get an actually bad monitor. (60 is nice, but 120 is worth it in a lot of games and costs hardly much more than 60 anymore.)

if you can't reach 240 frames on your 240hz monitor you might wanna consider becoming a stretched res gamer for competitive fps. just going 16:10 can already help

Maybe I didn’t catch it, however what is also worth mentioning is that you don’t neet 1440p resolution on monitors below 27 inches.
FullHD - max 24 inches
1440p - from 27 inches
1440p is not 2K. 2K resolution is 2048x1080. 1440p is called WQHD or simply 1440p

@@yarincool1237 No one said it doesnt look better. Its just that you probably dont use 100% scaling in your desktop meaning you probably use 125 or 150% scaling which is the equivalent to 1080p which defeats the purpose of buying a higher res display.

Is it true that if you have 240 hz monitor, for example, and play comparative games without hitting 240 hz - it is better to switch to a monitor with lower fps?
For example you play Fortnite with 230-235 fps on avarage and it is better to switch to 180 hz monitor just to make them lock in one number?

No not true, if you get 180 fps on average and you're on a 144hz monitor upgrading to a 240hz monitor wouldn't be worth it (40hz increase). However, if you're achieving 230fps it it definitely worth making the upgrade (86hz increase)

TNs aren't necessarily for pro gamers they're for competitive gamers. There's a difference.

1440P is a huge competitive advantage IMO and pros need to move to it, it helps you spot and aim so much easier even in games like csgo and valorant, and its even more of an advantage in games like pubg and tarkov, also IPS over TN any day so you can see thee game and enemies clearer, i dont care how fast TN and 1080P is, it looks so bad that its a disadvantage, also in competitive games theres no FPS diffrence as pros and competitive players play on low and these games are CPU bound anyway.
when was the last time u used tn? cause its not bad at all idk what are u talking about
they won't move to 1440p unless we get an actually good cpu and gpu upgrades, for now nvidia, and and intel are just milking money from us lol. for pros it's much more important to play at 540 fps than having a clearer image since they play on 24 inch screens anyway
also they like 24 inches because the screen is just smaller so they can see it all at once, buying a 1440p and if you need scaling down to 1080p is very bad it's gonna extremely blurry compared to base 1080p, 4k would be better but then you definitely won't play 4k on competitive games anytime soon
@@aleks-lj9yq you just play it at native 1440p why would you need to scale down lol, the fps diffrence is very little in competitive games anyway.

Buying anything below 480hz for competive games is simply self sabotage. You will put yourself at a severe disadvantage against the competition.
Most people can't run games at 480 fps, and a few games cap out at 300 fps anyway
Not really. No professional esports fps game(cs2,r6,apex,fortnite) etc supply 480hz montiors for pro players in LAN tournaments. 480fps is extremely difficult to achieve on a fps title. most pros also just aren't experts on equipment anyways, they just use whatever.
