I can't thank you enough Sir for making this video. I struggled for almost 2 hours trying to remove it, came inside and found your video. Went out, sprayed with WD-40 and like magic I pulled it off. Again - thank you and God Bless.
Very helpful and well made video. I think the air hammer broke the rust into a powder allowing the penetrating oil to go further down the shaft. I think that spraying more on the top and bottom would've helped more because it would've reached more of the shaft when the clutch was pushed back up. I would use antiseize compound on the shaft when installing the replacement and some medium thread locker on the bolt.
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Just what I've been looking for. Thanks a million!! Now if I can figure out a way to weld a plate on it to keep it in place when you engage it. Garbage cheap way to manufacture it. Thanks a bunch John Deere. Boo hiss. 😅
Since you are not (initially) trying to vibrate the PTO off the shaft, just getting the oil to penetrate, I suspect you could replace and fully seat the shaft bolt and beat against that to avoid boogering up the threads.
How do you stop the crank shaft from turning on top while trying to unscrew the bolt holding the pto clutch. Im having to use a breakover bar because my impact won't break it loose and the shaft on top turns with the bolt on the bottom?
We always use a large impact, depending on the situation. If you do not have an impact big enough to do it, I have used a pipe wrench on the PTO pulley before if there is not an electric clutch. If it has an electric PTO clutch you will have to use something (or have someone hold) the flywheel under the engine shroud
Did you replace the clutch after this, and if so, what brand did you use, Xtreme. I'm going to put one on my ZTR in a couple weeks. I was wondering if you like it.
You can use reverse drill bits, sometimes a regular drill bit in reverse will take it out also. Normally remaining threads are not tight in the shaft and these bits just thread them right out.
I have! Used it a couple times with a can someone gave to me and it worked well. Was thinking about getting some more but the price tag turned me away.
Of course I was hopeful that mine would come off after trying this method, unfortunately it is even more difficult than yours was. Still hopeful leaving it bathed in penetrating fluid and some time and patience that it will free up.
Did it come off after soaking? Some are really seized on but this works almost always! Have you tried putting the bolt back in and using the air hammer on the bolt?
If it works it works! We stay away from our torch on this because it will ruin the clutch if you get it too hot. You also have an oil seal directly above that will be ruined if it gets too hot so be careful when using this method!

I love UA-cam! I have been prying for 20 minutes and skinned my knuckles trying to get this thing off! I finally UA-camd it and found your video. I used WD-40 and a vibrating sander. It fell right off!! Thanks so much. I am replacing an engine so I hope you have more videos. If not, go make an engine swap video real quick!
Yeah the one I got has a bolt on the bottom and goes under the drive pulley. I was wondering because it’s an old tractor and we’re not using a deck on it anymore. I guess it’s gotta stay there then.
Most these videos show the clutch falling off just by breathing on it yours actually showed how to get it off in real-life thank you
Glad to help! It was actually stuck on. Thanks for watching!

Did this on mine today.
I used a Makita SDS Hammer drill with rotation off and a 1/2" bolt held in a conventional chuck.
Thanks for the tip.👍
Awesome!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip, lubed it, air hammered it then it came off ez peeze after being on the mower for 12 years.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Wow ! You're a lifesaver worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip!

Worked like a charm with side taps.
Awesome job!

Thank you. You just save me a lot of time and busted knuckles.

Worked like a champ! Kimball Midwest has some good products!
They sure do! We use a few of them

Good thoughts! Thanks for watching!
It worked a treat! Thank you.
Awesome!
Kimball midwest should sponsor you
We definitely use a lot of it!
Other videos recommended custom pullers and torches. Your tip worked really well. Thank you so much!

thanks for the video going through this now lol

I sure did not. Extreme clutches seem to be well made. Make sure you don't overtighten the bolt when reinstalling
@@IndRepair Thanks. I have a Torque Wrench coming from Amazon in an hour or 2. Haha. 👍
Great news!
Meanwhile I’m on day 2 of soaking and air hammering. I’ll be resorting to a puller next. Mine is also probably 15 years old.
Never fun there! I have always been able to get them off this way. Good luck, I hope it comes off soon!!
1 day soak with PB Blaster. Came right off with puller
All these clutch removal videos shows that bolt coming right out mine won’t budge. Any ideas?
What are you trying to use to remove it with?
Shaft spinning or just won't budge?
How to get broke bolt out of clutch on Ferris zero turn mower
You can use reverse drill bits, sometimes a regular drill bit in reverse will take it out also. Normally remaining threads are not tight in the shaft and these bits just thread them right out.
How do you lock up the clutch to get the 5/8 bolt out mine just keeps spinning
I'm trying to change my drive belts on a troybuilt gt 50 big red horse. And I can't find any info
Use and impact and it will come right out. Some clutches have a spot on the spacer you can get on with a crescent wrench also.
@@IndRepair thanks I was trying with a rachet finally found an article that said you have to use an impact
Great job!
Take the Dust cover off the top of the engine hold the crankshaft for the wrench atop it's been 5/8 inch Bolt
Ever heard of aerokroil

@@IndRepair Yeh, tried it all. Gonna let it soak more and get back at it. Not certain what to do if it doesn't give up.... cutting torch?😬
Oh my zero turn mower is not coming off
Oh no! Soak and repeat!
Pretty sure my torch does a most effecient job of this

Thank You for information and advice
Yes it’s the best way to do it
Let it sock and in time it will move with air hammer
Sometimes easier than others! Thanks for watching!
Can you remove the electric pto clutch if you’re not using a deck?
You could but then there would be nothing to keep the drive pulley on except the belt tension. Could potentially cause it to come off
Depends on the model, most zero turns
Yeah the one I got has a bolt on the bottom and goes under the drive pulley. I was wondering because it’s an old tractor and we’re not using a deck on it anymore. I guess it’s gotta stay there then.
We use pulleys for the clutches we see however when push comes to shove this is a great alternative. The penetrating oil is a must have. Great video.
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding! I just ran into this issue today. I wish I would have seen the video first.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much, hammer, second tap, video wasn't done
Haha, nice!!
That's it. I'm buying an air hammer tomorrow! I have had too many years of pounding with a hammer.
Definitely great to have!
We have flat idler pulley that may fit your lawn tractor. We can provide it for free. Do you need?
I do not have the mower anymore unfortunately
Mine 1 of the back plate bolt came off 2nd bolt was loose disconnecting wire what should I do after I bolt and plug wire back
I am not sure which back plate bolts you are talking about? One of the bolts on the clutch itself or the braket to keep the clutch from spinning?
@Individualized Repair the bracket which I I believe keeps clutch from spinning
@@mannycouto6246 If you are putting it back together tighten everything up
Thanks. Mine came off in 3 pieces. I’m hoping mine was bad
Yeah sometimes they definitely can!
Thanks for watching!
I’m hoping it’s even more so of a sign that it’s bad. Guessing it may have been going bad a while too. Has been eating up belt’s regularly too.
Thank you, great job.
