But does this mean it's finally enough to draw in a playerbase that's already abandoned the game a year prior?
Only time will tell if all the new Classes and reworked weapons will come together for Octobers latest patch and bring back some of the 100k players that left the game since last year.
You can’t really compare Vermintide 2, simply because the lore is totally different. In Darktide, you are one individual amongst hundreds of trillions fighting and dying everyday. And that’s how your character is portrayed. You are one tiny, insignificant cog, in a vastly large machine. You aren’t a famously lauded hero, you’re just some nobody in an ocean of nobodies. I will note, the more missions you complete, the more the respect for your character grows amongst the crew of the Mourningstar.
I agree. People always compare Darktide to Vermintide 2 but forget about the Warhammer Universe. Whats happening on Tertium is a (somewhat) common occurance for the Imperium and the people fighting the corruption will take anyone they can get.
I see what you mean, but I still have to disagree slightly in that the warhammer universe has so much potential for big evil baddies/iconic space marines that it severely missed out on an epic story. Imagine you get nearly crushed by an overwhelming force, maybe a towering evil end boss type, only to be saved at the last second thanks to hope inspiring reinforcements. Heck, even Destiny had some beloved characters in their hub world, but Darktide has nothing but generic soldiers who treat you like dirt right up until lvl 30.
@JoystickJournal1 well they're trying to steer away from making it a space marine game. The aim is about just trying to survive as a nameless nobody and take back tertium slowly which they nailed perfectly. The story is kinda mid but the revamped skill trees breathed life back into it so who knows, maybe they're still got something left in the tank
if there were ANY chapter of space marines on the morningstar, the inquisition would not need to mass conscript convicts.
hell a few space marines would have cleared much of the fukery on terra by now lmao
@@JoystickJournalYT That's the imperium though, just millions of generic soldiers, you get some personality off of your Comms people but typically everyone next to you might not be alive the next time you go to the ship.
Could careless about the story. It's one of the few games that has entertaining gameplay in 2023.
Heresy
@@gingerback1194 you want a story they got like 50 books on 40k 🤓
Gameplay means more to me than Story too, 100%
Being tricked into thinking it's an either/or choice is the final step of indoctrination
To be fair, it would be difficult to make a unique story for generic grunts, without doing like a "separated from command" storyline
I came from vermentide, and I must say they did 40K right.
Plus the combat system is what interested me, but what kept me was the player character interactions. I get a year of joy every time my cadian guardsman mention CADIA.
This is not the end for Darktide by any means. The crafting system still needs to be changed significantly to give us more freedom, they still need to add more variety to the worlds, missions, and enemy variants.
I'd like to see the addition of beastmen as a couple enemy types amongst the heretics' forces, on top of a beastman class that could act as a mix of zealot and ogryn with a playstyle centered around taking damage to deal more damage, fitting the whole "suicidal fighters" role that beastmen are often forced into when fighting for the Imperium, and the fact that we're all rejects in Darktide is the perfect gateway for a beastman class.
you WANT the crafting system to be changed, it does not NEED to be changed. BIG Difference.
@@Nikoli420 it does, thats where most of their player bleed is. People want to be able to spend an understandable amount of time on the game in a week and play different builds and weapons but the current system requires far too much investment to get your bet build items. While you can play pretty much every weapon, the difference between a well blessed 370+ and a moderately blessed 340 is rather vast once you get into T5+
The game is already vastly fun and people will continue to play it because its fun but eventually you will hit burnout if it takes 130 rolls to get the cool blessing you want.
@@Nikoli420It definitely needs to be changed. The vast difference in usage of plasteel and diamantine alone is a headache and a half.
Yeah the sheer lack of maps really annoys me, I thought Vermintide could've had more maps, but bloody hell was I in for a surprise when I really saw just how little the devs delivered on the campaign "Story".
I can agree to most of this video , yeah I kinda wish there was more weapons and maps but the gameplay is so good, I cannot stop playing
You got to remember too that they have been working on the game since it came out to improve (or finish) the game. Reworking systems and other things people hated. They simply have not had time to work on new content. They had to get the actule stuff in the game compelling and fun first. Dont care about a cosmetic shop. That is a cosmetic desinger job and takes way less people to work on and seperate from core game mechanics and levels. You either like the game or dont. Its fun, brutal at times, and has gotten better over time instead of being left to die. Yes it needs more maps, yes you will get board after doing same stuff over and over but thats true with all games. For those that stick to low difficulty i suggest playing on harder to push that adrenaline.
The game even incentivizes you to play on harder difficulties, with the difficulty curve being very apparent as you become a higher level and get better gear. I've found it best to keep upgrading/getting gear with higher gear scores and to increase difficulty when you stop leveling up at least once per mission on the current difficulty you're on.
aye, I just picked this game up on xbox, and I am in love with the psyker gameplay.
Darktide's story: being a side character, do good or be dead
To be fair, thats the entire imperium thats not Space Marines basically
Wow, I just found your account, and I'm surprised how good was your vid! Gonna subscribe hopefully you keep doing good content like this one ^-^/
Thank you so much and welcome! :D
Just coming from big channels uploading space marine 2 gameplay without any commentary and calling it a day, have my abo as well.
Excellent video, good humor too.
Keep up the good work, you'll be in the high sub numbers in no time!
Appreciate that a ton my guy!
I been having a blast since release and wont be stopping until I get 250 investigations done lol. It is Warhammer but as a normal weakling, love it.
I haven't finished the video yet but these are my thoughts and biggest gripes about the current state of the game after playing it continuously since release.
- The crafting system needs to give more control over to the players instead of the unfinished, grindy crapshoot that we've all put up with for far too long, where one ends up wasting all gold and mats running those few feet back and forth between Hadron and Brunt's Armory (or waiting for Sire Melk to pull through once in a blue moon). There also needs to be more cosmetics and skins outside of the cash shop, particularly for weapons. The fact that at the Commissar there's only two color sets/skins for all weapons after all these months is embarrassing IMO. There is a bit more choice when it comes to Operative outfits but still not a lot to purchase and choose from by any means. Also % modifiers on weapons greater than 80% would be nice but I would only have that on an additional Mythical level rarity that is obtainable either through a small chance of an Auric-only mission completion reward or an upgrade-able/craft-able tier after completing a Penance requiring X amount of Auric mission completions.
- A new world/Hive with different visuals along with new enemy types would be a huge breath of fresh air. The core gameplay is very entertaining of course and that gives Darktide much of its replayability and longevity, but it's been the same levels and missions and enemies over and over again for quite some time now - calling all of that repetitive would be an understatement for the long-timers and vets of the community.
- It would also be nice if killing Daemonhosts dropped extra bonus Plasteel and Diamantine, with the amounts tied to the difficulty level of course.
- This one is class-specific but I think the stun immunity on Thy Wrath Be Swift should be baseline for all Zealots, considering they are the only class in the game that is primarily a melee frontliner (as Ogryns can go either melee-focused or ranged of course). At the very least, have only the heavy ranged elites and specialists be able to stun. In turn I would bring back the small toughness damage reduction on slide that TWBS used to have and keep its current movement speed bonus on hit untouched to still keep the trait relevant for the Zealots that want to double down on a speed or movement-based build.
- Psykers likely need an even bigger rework (or re-rework?), as the Blitz options now make for uninspired gameplay which more often than not is...well, 'overpowered' to put it bluntly. Assail is currently the talk of the town but Smite arguably is even more broken in the right hands and on an organized team, but because Smite usually either sets up kills for everyone else or protects everyone elses' backs from everything that isn't a Monstrosity (rather than take away kills from everyone else which is what Assail usually does), then it doesn't get as much hate from the community. Brain Rupture, comparatively and arguably the only 'underpowered' choice, needs either a baseline damage buff where it can one shot a Skullcrusher or a charge-rate buff where it two-taps but does so quicker than it does right now without Empowered Psyonics and other buffs. The other classes may well need a rework or an adjustment here and there too but I have not played them extensively enough so I will leave that potential discussion to others.
- Last but not least: for the love of the God-Emperor Fatshark, I think I speak for a lot of players when I say please please PLEASE redesign Trappers. The multiple silent ones amidst the endless hordes are getting ridiculous, particularly at the highest difficulty levels/modifiers. IMHO they are atrociously lazy game design in their current state - the game failing to provide an audio cue of their presence until the very last second or in some cases not at all, is just the largely unfair and infuriating cherry on top. IMHO it would make for far more nuanced gameplay with the potential to create rewarding, clutch situations if the trapped player had a timer until they could break out of the trap, and that timer could be adjusted to the difficulty level - say 25 seconds for Damnation, 20 seconds for Heresy...going all the way down to 5 seconds for Sedition. Once the timer is over, simply press E to break out of the trap if you are still alive. Other team members can still release you early if they get to you (regardless of the timer), much as is the case now.
Maybe Fatshark should just hire me at this point but all jokes aside, this game is by no means finished. In its current state, *this is how Darktide should have released a year ago*. Now that we've caught up to zero, anything else beyond this point is effectively moving forwards from square one. Patch 13 was a good and necessary (albeit flawed) milestone. Credit where it's due but Fatshark needs to keep listening to the community and prioritising what is most important from a balanced gameplay and longevity aspect.
Good points, bar one
Trappers aren't silent. They are LOUD.. but they do get drowned out in the noise of a horde if you arent filtering specifically for special-sounds. They have very distinct spawning-in noises, and their gun has an equally distinct charge. Just train yourself to dodge the moment you hear that gun charge, and it wont matter if she was aimed at you or not - youll probably dodge it.
And if you do get captured.. ...by the Emperor, TEAMMATES, PICK UP THE TRAPPED PLAYER FIRST. It only takes like 2 seconds and that trapper will run off before she can fire again anyways. But before she can, your captured teammate will already be kicking her head in IF you pick them up first.
@@shoulderpyro I appreciate the reply but I have had trappers silently spawn in right next to me and not fully make the whirring sound of the trap being launched. It is a known issue in the game right now. When the game actually keeps up with its audio cues they are absolutely not a problem, but when multiple of them show up in a HISTG Damnation Auric in the middle of a massive horde, elites, specialists, a Plague Ogryn and other disablers, only to barely make a sound and miraculously shoot their traps through dozens of poxwalkers in front of them (even clipping through walls at times), it absolutely ruins the experience and it has nothing to do with player skill (or a lack thereof).
And that doesn’t even touch upon the notion that Trappers in their current state are just simply lazy game design with very little nuance to them.
We won't get vastly different enemy encounters or worlds without any connection to Atoma Prime or relation to the heretics on said hiveworld. This game is called DARKTIDE for a reason, and it's set on Atoma Prime. We could get different cities on the planet though, as well as a snowy wasteland mission set in Atoma's ice caps, or even a couple missions on ship. We could even have a sabotage mission that has us taking a heretic portal to a nearby forested shrineworld where we stop the heretics' antics there while also sabotaging the portal, using it to get back to Atoma Prime before the whole thing goes down. Could also have a mission that has us going through the higher parts of Tertium or some other hive city on Atoma Prime, with some Imperial gardens and cathedrals or what have you. Other than that, I don't see anything else working for Darktide.

- Yep, that's good enough. Whether it's another part of Atoma Prime or a brief visit to a shrine world through a portal (great idea btw) - the point is that at some point down the line (and sooner rather than later) this game will need new scenery and new objectives/mechanics/mission types. Otherwise as things currently stand the very linear nature of the level design and the limited amount of mission types is already getting stale and repetitive for anyone not new to the game, and the situation is clearly not conducive to a lengthy 'shelf-life' for Darktide.
I wouldn’t mind a button mash to get out of trapper nets
Finished is a very relative term when it comes to fat shark games
i really want this game. hopefully it will be on sale during the fall steam sale. although, it does sound like it's worth full price even if it doesn't go on sale.
if you like Warhammer (40k), like intense shooting and melee it's 100% worth it. I would always recommend this game
It's not even full a full price game, its only $40.
Easiest way to fix the crafting system is diamantine to remove locks and cut plasteel costs in half or double plasteel drops. Also, why the fuck do Monstrosities not drop like 200 plasteel/100 diamantine packs? would certainly make killing DH actually matter.
DH should explode like a goddamn plasteel pinata
Great points man! With the talent tree rework, I jumped back in and I really really really wanted to play and enjoy it, but DEAR EMPORER! The RNG is a freaking nightmare in this game! RNG for map selection, RNG for weapon in the store, RNG for weapon Base stats, RNG for weapon Perks, RNG for blessing, and the kicker is that even if you make it through all of that you still have to find more weapons via the RNG store or melks store to get tier 3 and 4 blessings. DUH FUCK! Better hope to the emporer that the weapon you make is exactly how you want it and it doesn't get nerfed because you will have to do it ALL over again.
I can excuse the terrible hub for the most part and the cosmetic store, but the RNG makes this game unplayable in my opinion. I have too many other games to play to sit around and wait for the perfect weapon, perks, blessings, etc. At least the talent trees are pretty cool now.
Not finished yet, there is weapon customization left. I think there is mod use leftover datamine to give gun different scope.
Devs have pretty much said that feature is discontinued
@@puenboy1 its literally in the game, they just need to turn it on.
Sounds like leadership
Millennial retirement home of Destiny 2. Damn you're makin me feel ole man. M-maybe I could actually go back BUT-
All Warhammer games need to be out for at least 3 years before it gets to state that's decent.
Needs dark eldar pirate raids, defend the base like Payday.
Also they said they had Dan Abnett aboard for the story. Honestly, it looks like they probably did more but it's just not there in teh game.
he wrote the lore on the website so technically it wasnt a lie. Whether they do more with it......
Idunno I think the point of the game was to illustrate the absolute horror of joining the astra militarum and how pathetic it is.
Great game but get to level 30 and there is nothing left to do. Even new content does not give you any incentive to continue. Wish now I had never paid good money for it. Vermintide was better.
good video
Not finished until the entire crafting system is overhauled.
It is barely functional in its current state and seems like someone went out to design an asian grind mmo cash shop built around the crafting but then did a 180 on the cash-shop but had no time to revamp the crafting.
I think it's more-so they wanted to design a system that fits the premise of a prison ship supplying convicts with weapons before being sent to the slaughter house. I mean, why the hell would the tech priests on board the Mourning Star trust a bunch of prison rejects with crafting their own weapons when they were initially going to be executed before the heretics attacked the previous prison ship?
That all being said, the current crafting system absolutely needs a massive overhaul. Make it so we can change any modifications on it without the stupid limitations, but have said modifications require a certain gear level be met as to encourage people to keep grinding, and also have a ramp-up in crafting costs per change made to a single item/weapon. I don't get why Tech Priests wouldn't want to make more than two unique upgrades to their "relics of war"
(Also Left 4 Dead 2 *is just DLC* for Left 4 Dead, disguised as a sequel.)
Darktide doesn't have NEARLY enough content to be considered finished. It still feels like a Beta. Their current asking price for what you actually get is ridiculous.
No. Why not? Because there's over 100+ weapons for the Imperial Guard on tabletop, and there's
I don't understand how people think Vermintide is better than Darktide. granted I only have 35 hours in Vermintide and 200+ in Darktide. In vermintide I never gave a shit about my char, the story or anything. I found it weird and lowkey annoying I couldn't make my own char. Skill tree is shit and the maps feel... Idk... Crafting is tedious too and everything is just about getting better gear score to play higher difficulty.
I miss vermintide that was my shit but I got tired of killing rats lol, also they should have gave it more lvls and a better storyline not just doing random missions after awhile missions get tiresome like pay day 3. Should have added a story like borderlands or remnant from the ashes I guarantee you it would be a successful game. Other than that it's a great game just need more content and something for the game to go off of not just killing just because...... Like every few levels they call you in to talk to you giving you access to equipment but after you reach 30 they be like yea well we found the traitor kills the person besides you and that's it. Like whoever came up with that should be FIRED!
Replacement for left 4 dead? I raise you deep rock galactic
Rock and Stone, brother! I wonder how the player base is doing over on DRG. Maybe a video for the future? 🤔
It better not be!
The eververse is so bad its affecting other games
But now it's on Xbox!
And crossplay is enabled! (i'm pretty sure)
:D
No it's not finished... at least Vermintide had Story to it ... Ours is literally "You're a Prisoner set to be executed, we'll keep you alive until you aren't useful anymore .... also" *Shoots the spy* "That happened..." Kind of a let down.
The gameplay is rife with bugs every time they fix other ones, it's frustrating.
I haven't ran across any bugs yet and I'm lvl like 24
better not be this game needs a lot of work
its a murder box .5 maps noting more ,warframe doze this for free just say,ing
I can tell you why i left. No rpg stories. The ship/hub is empty and pretty much useless. And yeah, the same maps got me burned real quick. I was done after a week.
I swe recently they added a skill tree. Its nice. They should have had that since the launch.
But i knew the game would be like this. But there is frankly no depth in the game.
I wanted to come back. I checked. No new maps. No new mission.
They added a couple new maps/missions before the skill tree update, but it wasn't much, just felt like stuff that was meant to be in the game from the get-go.
@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 I will revisit it. I always revisit their games. But their games lack content. Always. I still play some deathwing, sometimes. My favorite space marine game. It was so good.
I wish they would add 10 more level.
Thats the problem with them.
They never expand on their game.
Space marine 2 is coming up. I have a lot of expectation. Hopefully its gonna be good.
Loving this game but:
- Why not have a lvl/boss randomizer? There is only 5 maps, example: The Assassination mission is always the same area with the same boss, why can't we go to other levels with the same mission? Why can't it be a Plague Ogryn as boss or chaos spawn?
- I'd love the idea that if your captured and your team doesn't recuse you in time your character is converted and now you hunt down the rest of your team for the rest of the mission :P
I have more fun in this game compared to COD or Destiny 2. To Be Honest, you're probably 'burned out' of this game. Simple as That.
nah it needs more maps it needs its own chaos waste kind of map as well,
I still love Darktide, I am a big fan of WH40K and it is graphically beautiful and the gameplay is really fun and I am still loving playing it, and honestly, I don't give a damn if there isn't a million ppl playing as long as I can still get 3 other teammates to run missions. So I think its better now than it was at launch and not because of the patchs and other stuff, but because its the hardcore WH40K lovers who are playing are the ones who stuck around instead of the fucking toxic fuckwads who were making the game unplayable because they refused to use voice chat or the text box to help with team cohesion. It was freaking mindblowing just how bad the social experience of Darktide was because of the horrible human beings who wanted to get into darktide for all the wrong reasons. I am all about Gatekeeping instead of being inclusive after everything I have seen in the last 20 years of gaming. I remember when being a nerd and being hardcore gamer was cause for ridicule and hate, now every dickhead is a "gamer" and it has made a really cool hobby into a mainstream entertainment cesspool instead of a place where likeminded ppl could go to team up with other gamers. The same assholes we gamers wanted to avoid are now crowding our space and bringing their shitty personalities into our zone.
Game is fun. I like I play. You don't like, don't play.
