Well as a longtime Barca fan, that Ankara-Messi goal is actually one of the worst memories for us Barca fans.... That goal happened in a Copa del rey semi-final 1st leg match against Getafe, that match ended 5-2 for Barca "with that Ankara-messi being the 2nd goal for Barca I believe or maybe 3rd don't quite remember", only to blow that big lead in the 2nd leg.. a 0-4 L, getting trashed out the copa del rey in such fashion smh.... So, whenever I see this goal, the only thing that comes to my mind is that 4-0 butt-whooping we received in the 2nd leg match...
One thing i have noticed with american coverage of sports is how much people obsess over stats in their discussions and even commentary. The commentary on football in Eu and SA has more of emotional expression and its a bit more casual. But it pulls us even further into the game. Its surprising how distinct it is when i watch any American sport vs the English/Spanish etc commentary in football.
Before Messi a lot of players were compared with Maradona and all failed. Now many players will be compared with Messi... And a lot of them will fail. These kind of players appear only one after many decades...🤷♂️🤷♂️
Another amazing goal of the century (ranked 6th) was by an unlikely player in the USA '94 World Cup that u have to check out... It was by Saeed Al-Owairan of Saudi Arabia... It was Saudi Arabia's first World Cup competition ever and they actually scored first against the Netherlands (1st game) but lost 1 - 2... 2nd match v. Morocco was not a hyped game but it was one of the best games of that World Cup - Saudi Arabia won 2 - 1. 3rd match was v. Belgium, who had won both their previous games. No. 10 for Saudi Arabia - Saeed Al-Owairan picked up the ball in his half... and dribbled through half the Belgian team and beat the Belgian goalie Michel Preud' homme (the #1 goalkeeper in the world that year) to score the winning goal 1 - 0, shocking the world and qualifying for the 2nd round of World Cup 1994. That was THE goal of the tournament.
I do not take merit away from Messi’s goal. But Maradona scored against an all star English national team, Messi scored against a mediocre bottom of the table league team. Maradona’s goal in that perspective, in a World Cup stage, with the pressure it carries was certainly magnificent. Whereas, Messi’s was just excellent for that moment in time.
Messi also score an similar and absolutely amazing goal against Atletic and so many incredible holds in all competitions and tournaments that it blows your mind, This man is without any doubt a gift from God !
You Cannot compare... Diego's goal was huge because it was made in the world cup, in quarter finals, against England and the end of the story is Argentina winning that cup... Imagine Tom Brady winning super bowl defeating a Muslim team on september 11.
I want to talk about The 1986 World Cup Quarter Final England against Argentina, as you mentioned the first goal should not have stood as it was an "Hand Ball". Now the second goal was an Own Goal scored by the sliding tackle of England's Terry Butcher ... as he tried to make an defensive slid tackle on the football to kick out of play, he accidently slid tackled the football into his own goal net!. If you watch the play in slow motion, you can see it ... and afterwards Terry Butcher punches the pitch in Frustration!.
It has been proven that the goal was in fact not an own goal. There is clear video evidence which you can find if you search on yt 'Maradona goal of the century new angle'. You can clearly see there he scores it himself.
@merseydave1.
A lot of people don’t know this, this game was against getafe for king’s cup of Spain. Barça won that game, but on the second match, getafe won and eliminated Barcelona.
I think you should watch the movie The Football factory and green street hooligans they are both free on youtube and really good movies on the realities of british football ultras
there's only one goal of the century and it's not Messi's Maradona's goal was a big political and social statement, in a world cup, in quarter finals against England... it's a completely different thing
By the way Messi also copied Maradona's other goal against England in 1986. Yes, yes, the "Hand of God" goal. Completely deliberately, as a tribute to Maradona, strange as it may seem, since it was a goal scored with his hand.
this incredible goal by Messi can't be replicated by anyone . and never ever will be . Messi is a once in a lifetime player. . the Leonardo Da Vinci of Football. Simply the G.O.A.T.
The different commentaries from the maradona goal of which there are a famous few lines of each 1 esp Hugos - alone are legendary. It's maradonas goal he was the original, it was a way more important game on a bigger stage messia doesn't compare for me When are you going to a proper maradona reaction video?! Thank you!!
I forgot to say the person doing the messi goal tries to replicate Hugos commentary and it sounds nowhere as good its like he's trying too hard to try and do the same commentary as hugo
Messi scored against GETAFE. A club that doesnt exists and no one knows with terrible players. Maradona did it AGAINST ENGLAND IN THE WORLD CUP. DO NOT COMPARE. Messi is great, yes, but he is 200 meters behind the GOD of football
Yeah, he almost perfectly recreated that goal, but with his own flare, dribbles and attack!
"Divine" is a perfect word to describe it...

I remember i watched this cup game against Getafe live at sports pub, i was stunned.
Hi luke ive been watching for a few months, love your videos!
There are two that Messi scored that are similar in difficulty, but different positions. 1) Vs Getafe. The 2nd) vs Atletico Madrid.....
Fue atletico bilbao en 2015
@@nicomtd8975 You're right. It was Bilbao.. I mix up the two.
Messi. Messi. Messi. Immens Messi. Encara Messi. Encara Messi. ANKARA MESSI. Encara Messi. Encara Messi. ⠀
Gol. Gol. Gol. Gol. Gol. Gol. 🐐
that's the lamest narration possible of that goal 🤡🤡💩💩

Mediocre team? Getafe had the best defense in the league at the time. In fact, they won 4-0 against this Barca in the 2nd leg.
Messi also score an similar and absolutely amazing goal against Atletic and so many incredible holds in all competitions and tournaments that it blows your mind,
This man is without any doubt a gift from God !
I think Getafe defence was good. But yess no where near or comparable to Maradona goal.
Wonder if u could do a vid on some of ur fav moments in football u have seen or reacted to, that goal World Cup ect
Honostly I liked Messi’s goal more , he was faster and dribbled more people

Lol..ball moved different in 80s. Messi will not score a goal like that in 80s
Best goal off Messi….
Against malaga.
Watch theiry Henry explain this goal and you understand the difficulty off it.
I think it was when Metallica cut their hair short, every guy in Argentina suddenly cut their hair short too. 😂

I was lucky enough to be at the match in 1986.
Can you share your story? That is an event I would put into my top 3 of moments I would like to be if I could time travel

@na1chaca889 So why did Terry Butcher appllogise for his mistake?

Messi's was much more spectacular
If you are watching live football, i would try to search for british/English commentary as it will probably be way better than American

Still waiting for "FIFA rigged this goal to give it to Messi"
