It's funny how with the constant churn in this hobby things get forgotten. I was hugely enthusiastic about this unit when it came out. I even watched Russ' hour long review about it, which is something I never do unless I'm nine-tenths of the way to pressing "Buy Now". Then I didn't. I love verticals and I'm a big fan of the Anbernic brand. I hesitated and then I just kind of forgot about it. Such a late review probably isn't ideal for the metrics; but, I benefitted because it reminded me to care about the RG406V again.
Got the Wood Grain 405V, the Gray 406V and the Wood Grain 351V. I like all three! Just finished filling the remainder of added storage space on my 406V with TV shows and movies. Installed a 2TB micro sd card in my 406V. Love the 2 speaker system on the 405V/406V, which is a rare feature for portrait handhelds. The 406V's upgraded analog sticks are designed to work like mini Atari 2600 joysticks. The down firing speakers, I used to have an issue with but now I prefer them to some degree. My hands don't cover the speakers and I still have 2 loud stereo speakers instead of just one at the right bottom corner, so I'm satisfied with that.
@@jonathonearl482 2TB? Bloody hell, that's a lot of storage. Mind you, with CHDs and ISOs, it adds up our quickly in terms of required storage for anyone with an expansive collection.
@@STR82DVD Well, I only have around 12 chds as my favorite SegaCD games. The N64 library, then the 32bit systems and below. No more than 100GB for roms and the rest is mainly TV shows and movies. I also have my mp3 library since the 406V has a nice loud set of stereo speakers.

@@testchannelnamechange I don’t like that DPAD and I also don’t like how it’s just a stretched cube. I would like a 405M but updated sticks and chip with active cooling.
3:00 it is a big deal if you really get into shimmerless shaders, grid overlays, video filters, etc. I also love the fact that GB, GBC and GBA and others can perfectly (integer) scale to fill all the screen (either horizontally or vertically, or both in some cases). This can't happen too often on 640x480. Also, you forgot to mention the sticks are Hall Effect! ♥
Great choices to add to the collection! Especially the 406V. I'm now focusing on adding accessories and upgrades to the handhelds I currently have within my collection. While giving away some of the handhelds I rarely use.

As good as the 405v and now this model are, they do feel like they're filling a very specific niche very few people want. If you dont mind getting a horizontal handheld, a rp5 model for just 40- 50 more is a way better value.
@ I have the rg406v on the way. I also still could never get the Bluetooth to work on the RGB20sx with arkos. I turn on the Bluetooth but can never pair my controllers.
I'm just about fed up of this controller layout, I pray Anbernic can revisit the design of the ARC with SEGA's 6-Button layout and just add analog sticks with a modern chipset. I'm passing on all these products until I get a 6-Button layout. Tthanks for the review btw still looks good
I love the vertical form factor and 4:3 screen of the RG406V. I only have the Powkiddy V10 which is nice for GBA but I really just want to play Kingdom Hearts 1&2 (PS2) specifically. Do you think I'd have an alright experience using this handheld?
I can't speak to KH unfortunately, may want to see if anyone has uploaded footage of that on any of the T820s, but I would consider PS2 and GC etc. a bonus for this, not a core system this can do.
I want to want this, but it sounds like all it offers for me over my current handhelds is N64 and Dreamcast, and I was never the biggest fan of their libraries.
Hi, can you see if you noticed any issue with the screen when you view it from different viewing angles? Mine seemed to have very small viewing angle and the black color had some white / silvery reflection if i view it slightly from the right side.... which is annoying because it could happen to my right eye and not my left... driving my eyes nuts and causes bad eye strain. I returned mine. I want to know if my device was just defective. If it is, I would consider buying again because I really liked it (minus the eye strain).
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds I don't know: would light bleed only affect images viewed from a certain viewing angle? I wouldn't see the reflection when I look at the same place from the left side. Only problematic from the right.
