hey man im also interested in this conversion, but i dont find that much to read about it (as not many people have done it yet i guess) do you have any references on who already has a build like that?
Soooo this makes sense, Adam mentioned maybe running a different chassis at different tracks for FD next year. I could see this being the big huge horsepower car for the bank tracks and the e36 for the smaller/tighter tracks
This looks like it would be a development car maybe for doing that in the future - I think because they don’t seem to be doing the usual FD spec engine bay things yet?
B58 gen 2’s with DP & E54 tune put low 500’s & low 600ish tq. The stock DI can’t handle more than E54 without port injection. On pump 91 (here in AZ that’s all we get) they’re low 400’s. Can’t wait to see the finished project of this! B58’s are going to become the new JZ’s in the future 👀
@@josha2222 why do people praise the 1J when the 2J is better? Why is the sky blue? How does the posi-trac on a Plymouth work? People like what they like, tf does it matter 🤷🏼♀️
You’re right s58 is the superior engine, but the b58 is way more accessible. Came in significantly more vehicles and price of entry is like 1/4th the price.

Hell yeah! This is a dream swap in 2 timeless chassis! Just wondering if you guys have thought about welding the spacers to each mount? This way it can't get messed up during install. Keep making awesome stuff!
I love these guys. If I had this 6 months ago, I would have considered doing a B58 swap instead of the 1JZ GTE I fought so hard to get. I will be watching this series none the less. Very interesting to see how it turns out.
The charge coolers are restrictive, you'll gain 50hp on the same boost by running a good front mount and a decent forward facing inlet plenum. Get Plazmaman involved!
Papadakis removes the DI in the b58 and they have no problems keeping them together. Im pretty sure they still don’t use it today. I think the n54 may just suck. B58 is definitely a winner it only took bmw how many generations of turbo motors to get it right?? Great work as always boys.
Always great videos. Even if I never touch a bmw engine I learn so much about the design and processes that went into it. And I get to see some very cool tools in use. I’m building a Toyota 2uz v8. $650 motor, supercharger available and a torque monster. I’m hoping a set of 1uz heads will let me get it up to 7500 rpm. 2j aren’t the only good motors Toyota built. V8 that’s not an LS. ✌️
Can y'all please consider developing a rear sump compatible subframe for E30s? I've seen a few but they always look like someone's first attempt lol. These B58 mounts inspire confidence that y'all could make something that looks good and works well. You guys could single-handedly take down the scummy E34 oil pan market and allow motors newer than M54 to be installed in E30s by regular people. A true community service. This E46 will be cool to see either way, but my heart lies with the E30.
Was hyped to see a ecu for b58 swaps coming. But modding the shit out of the engines is a deal breaker for me. I would like to keep the b58 oemish in a 46 shell as a streetcar
We could go that route but we want it to be as reliable and serviceable for drifting. All the plastic nonsense for stock applications isn't it. If it goes well we'll see about a street oriented car!
Love it, I've been thinking about this swap for a long time, but scared to jump into it. Your project will help out others tremendously. On a side note, will you guys take on the job of people shipping an E46 and an S58 to you and have you perform the install? (Once you have the process down of course, and if you decide to take on these projects) :)
Hopefully you'll be using a new angle kit something that isn't FDF, Wisefab or SLR. Maybe try the new pro series E46 CNC71. This is a really cool idea E46 are still cheapish and B58's are cheaper than 2JZs. Can't wait to see Adam compete in this. Just to put it out there for the body kit HM Sports Aero? Denofa Spec?
For street cars, active heating of the oil during warmup is important, especially for the transmission. But factory oil pump, bearing and ring clearances even depend on it. Not sure yet how much faster they will fail when the friction materials/LG8 spec fluid operate through temps outside their design limits but it will be suboptimal. Warmup is increasingly critical for street cars, and 8HPs aren't cheap to rebuild. I understand this is a race build, but given its the first, getting rid of the 'octopus' as a first step may not be so good- it is at least neatly packaged, reliable, and fits. The stock cooling system is not stressed by cooling the oil btw, as long as it has capacity (you just have to scale it, if you up fueling). If you were to make it work with the stock cooling first, you could also produce more content on removing each 'plastic fantastic', investigating and tweaking the methods and software mods needed. Maybe even get more views (and collabs!) to support your (great, btw) project. At the end of the day, B58s are not 2Js; doing so many mods in one go could easily kill an expensive patient. I'd even keep the stock intake until a replacement can be tested and compared to the stock setup, which would still be great at the track (and for a street driven e46 like most people have, will be beyond incredible).
you have no idea how hyped i am for this, been wanting tio b58 swap my e36 for a while now and this will come in very handy, really curious on how it will hold up to drifting conditions. doesnt aasbo run b58 in FD?
Just for the comment that the DI engines don't survive on port injection, the papadakis b58's are port injection only. But good to see ecu companies doing more DI, even tho very few do 6 cyl native di control, and di drivers are still a costly add-on
They do in fact make 400 stock...at the wheels. Downpipe and tune can get you 500+ and you obviously are going to run e50 too Never heard of the intake manifold cracking...but people do upgrade to better designed aluminum ones all the time. They also add port injection there
