Interesting, for me the system appeared to self bleed - I installed the fuel filter and bowl empty, turned the key to run the fuel pump and it appeared to fill easily, then started the engine. It started instantly and never seemed to be starved of fuel. The air had to go somewhere obviously, so not sure. I need to replace the filter again, so I’ll try that again and will confirm either way.

They might be. I'd be interested in knowing your results next time. I only did it per the manual because I've read the posts from guys who had air in the lines and I didn't want that to happen to me.

@@Redneck_Ed - Replaced the fuel filter yesterday and got the same results - it appeared to self bleed. I followed the same procedure as the MF video - turned the valve off, removed the bowl and filter, replaced filter and reinstalled the bowl, turned the valve back on, turned the key to run the fuel pump and watched the bowl fill with fuel, then ran the tractor without any issues. I did not notice any fuel come out from the bleeder screw or anywhere along the line, so idk. Regardless this is the second time replacing the fuel filter this way without an issue, so I’ll take it!

Congratulations on the 1k, Ed! Well deserved! Good job on the fuel filter and the bleeding. I've replaced my fuel filter a few times, but never bleed the lines. I haven't had a problem, but I suppose I should bleed them. I'll be switching my tractor over to summer use very soon. I'll be checking the fuel filter and will bleed the lines if I need to replace the filter. Thanks for sharing. -Rick

It didn't really seem like the bleeding was necessary as long as the bowl is full of fuel, it's pretty easy to do it and good practice in case it is ever needed down the road.

The Wix fuel filter does have the o-ring in the filter. Congrats on 1k subscribers.

That is good information to know. I'll pin this comment to the top since I'm sure there are others planning to use the Wix.

Hey Ed why didn't you show us fireing it up? You said 2 years on that filter but how many hrs? It looks band new yet, run it longer 👍

I put the tripod away thinking that my BIL's car was blocking the tractor in and I'd start it up later. Then I was able to squeeze through though, so I should have set back up and shown the startup. The filter looked great, but I keep the fuel can and cap area clean. We had zero snow here this winter. I never even got the shovels out of the shed. Last year was only a few inches, so hours are a lot lower than I expected to have at this point. Guess that's how it goes though.

Waddup Ed, what's funny is Massey's youtube video on changing the fuel filter doesn't show them bleeding the line. A few years back when changing it, I followed that vid of theirs and didn't bleed it. The other day, I did the 200 hr full service (or 280 hr service more like lol, I'm late), was going to change the fuel filter too, and remembered your vid here. Looked it up in the manual and yup, it specifies bleeding the line just like you're showing here. I was lost where the bleed screw was on the engine, so thx for showing that. Gonna go do that today.

I noticed that too. Not sure why MF isn't posting videos that are in line with their own service manuals. Glad that the video helped you out.

@@Redneck_Ed filling that bowl before fully screwing the housing back on, good idea there Ed, that's what I did. I didn't end up bleeding the line.
