HarmanSin in my opinion, that game 6 finals goal, most incredible and emotional goal in hockey history. Even if you don’t agree completely, can’t argue it isn’t in top 5. What a moment, what a player. And Gary Thorne lol. What a damn call on that goal.
My first favorite hockey player as an 8 year old. This man made me love the game from a young age. A DEFINITE hall of famer. Well deserved. As a young kid who didn't know much about the game then, I was always excited to see him. In his own words, "Hockey is the greatest sport in the world."
Kariya's Edge play was always a thing of beauty to watch and with Selanne playing next to him they were damn near unstoppable. The way they would set each other up was amazing. Nuff said
A smaller man in a big man's era, but he had a heart that was as big as any. Sniper on the slapshot, one of the best wrist shots I've ever seen, and he could absolutely fly. Great in that era, but would be absolutely insane in today's era.
I always remember the bat out of the air and smirk one. That was a classic. Obviously off the floor on the board is his most iconic moment but a sad one. That was the one that really took some of it away from him.
Word. I love Teemu and Paul. I wished Paul didn’t keep asking for high salary(he earned whatever he negotiated) bc they winded up making half of the team payroll. Hard to win like that in terms of roster quality.
He would be superior to McDavid by far. McDavid does alot of razzle/dazzle, but he doesnt put up more points than any other high-level player. Kariya was much more talented than McDavid is.
@@roycecone4871 Kariya scored 100 points in the dead puck ear of the 1990s when guys would hit hard and often. McDavid in the 1990s would be a 70 point player.
@@Michael-fw5ef Mcdavid would skate through everyone in the 90s he the fastest skater ever and strong on the puck Kariya was still amazing though no doubt about that
@@roycecone4871 If he was hit once, he would slow down. In today's NHL, there is no hitting, no fighting, no stick work compared to the 1990s. McDavid only seems good in today's NHL because the talent level is so low. And remember, for all McDavid's flashy play, he was only a +3 last year and his team missed the playoffs. Gretzky finsihed with a plus +500 in his career and won 4 stanley cups, with his team making the playoffs almost every year he was in the NHL. Kariya took his team to the Stanley Cup finals. Kariya scored 50 goals in his 2nd year in the NHL in the dead puck era of the 1990s, when it was much harder to score. McDavid cant even make the playoffs and will likely never make it to the Cup finals. Again, McDavid only seems good against today's low quality of NHL players.
Jesus that duo was deadly and fun to watch. Like Selanne said, it worked because Kariya could handle the puck at full speed. And I mean FULL speed. At his best he was almost as explosive as #97
3:59 is one of my favorite Kariya goals. I regret he was not in the top 100 NHL players. I'm sure if he had 11 more career points, he would have been included.
He is the number one reason I started watching hockey in the mid 90s. He was so fast and his slap shot was so ridiculous hard...to this day my favorite number is 9....my second fav number is 8 hehe 😁😁
i dont say this about too many players from other eras, but i think kariya would absolutely dominate in todays nhl. speed, agility, hands, shot, and great hockey sense. unfortunately the era he played in was not kind to smaller players.
My favorite player growing up! I met him in 93’ (I was 5) after he and the UMO Black Bears won the college championship. Of course I wish he would have been a Bruin but he was an incredible player non the less…. Wish he had more of a chance to shine
I had the chance to go to the jersey retirement ceremony, what an incredible experience definitely once in a life time type of thing. I’m glad my ducks got him as we were an expansion team in 93 and needed big time production can’t get any better then him. Too bad he had so many concussions could’ve been the next Gretzky.
He should’ve made the Top 100 players of the century list. At his peak this guy was almost Gretzky good. He was blazing fast, had a wicket shot and was an incredibly gifted playmaker...all while only standing about 5’9. Injuries robbed him of a truly legendary career
Today(rightfully so), Scott Steven's hit is legitimately a suspension solely because the first point of contact is Paul Kariya's head. That goal is arguably one of the top 10 greatest goals ever. Paul could've sat, staying on the sidelines, recovering for next season, but he came back at no better than 60-65% to try and win the Stanley Cup. And I will forever have the utmost respect for that man. Thank goodness he won gold in 1993 at WJHC and then again at the Olympics in 2002! He is a Hall of Famer, whether he makes it or not!
Paul Kariya was simply incredible to see this man is a legend hands down 💯💯💯 my favorite player to play for the Ducks, also Scott Neidermayer and Teemu Selanne are also my favorites for the Ducks

If you really want to watch just how skilled he was find the 42-1-2 documentary on the 92/93 Maine Black Bears. He was simply leagues about everyone in the NCAA that year and it's a wonder he didn't put up more than the 100 points he finished with. It's likely we will never see a college hockey season that dominant again, given the parity and expansion D1 has seen over the last two decades, so it makes it more fun to appreciate just how insane of a season he had. In fact, the 1993 swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated had an article on Kariya with comparisons to Gretzky, which was a very bold proclamation, but not totally unwarranted at the time.
Ike Jones most amazing emotional goal in hockey history. Def top 3 at least. Stevens tried to act like he wasn’t surprised, but you know he was flat out shocked Kariya came back in. I’m sure the audio doesn’t do it justice, but i bet that had to be one of the loudest moments ever at the pond
Kariya and Selanne benefitted most because Rucchin was a player who had some size and plenty of grit to do the dirty work to really let their talent shine.
Carlos Diaz Kariya is my all time favorite player so definite wasn't a slight on either of them but rather a compliment to how well Rucchin's style of play fit between those two.

i forgot where i heard or saw it from, but during an interview, one of his old team mates mentioned that even after practice, Paul Kariya would stay on the ice another half hour or so, practicing his backhand from the High Slot.. well, right beside the net actually. the left of the net. and there'd be that once in a blue moon-opportunity where Kariya was at the exact-same spot, (during a game) to the left of the net where he practiced that backhand
