all who are upset, i understand why she is upset. 1) No healthcare wouldn’t be free, but they should provide a bill after all the procedures are finished and shouldn’t have her sign a bill when she was unconscious/had recently passed out or blacked out 2) They should’ve explained why they couldn’t give water, in case they needed to do a surgery, but they just claimed it was because of their policy 3) She waited for 6 hours and wasn’t given IV fluids until being seen by a doctor 4) She was discharged without being informed of her diagnosis or how to get help in the future. Everyone in Canada is bashing her for telling her story. Like she said, if the same thing happened in an American hospital, she would’ve told the story.
No disrespect at all but when my boyfriend didn't renew his Medicare card they had us pay. Not upfront, we had to sign a paper and wait for the bill in the mail. They didn't give us a ball park range either it was a surprise. That's one thing about our system they dont give a range
@Lps Red Not "everyone" in Canada is bashing her. I'm Canadian and I totally understand and I'm not ignorant like the other haters out there. I actually watched the full video and I understood her completely. I would've also made a video about this if it happened to me too but I wouldn't have put in the title "Canadian hospital" because it makes Canada sound bad and it already attracts haters to the video. I would have just explained that in the video. :')
I´m a Med student and what they did to you was terrible, many times we don´t give water to patients because, in case an emergency surgery is required, the patient should not have anything in his stomach. But at least we have the desent to explain everything to the patient.
emt here. when you were describing your symptoms, the FIRST thing that popped into my head was a kidney infection. violently shaking and vomiting huge amounts. girl, you really need to go to your doctor and get checked out because antibiotics are required to get rid of kidney infections. if it goes untreated for too long, your body can go into septic shock, which is often fatal.
@@Brebellez yeah everyone (in the medical field) knows that violently shaking uncontrollably is a tell tale sign of a kidney infection. its what i instantly think of when i hear that symptom. as well as an insane amount of vomit. i've had one before. everyone's different. i've never heard of a case of food poisoning like this. usually it's just vomiting, nausea, really bad stomach pains, diarrhea. but like i said, everyone is different girl. but you're not wrong. it very well could be food poisoning, there's no way to 100% "diagnose" someone with food poisoning. BUT i was just putting this info out there just in case. better safe than sorry!
Hello, I am going to back up my homie real quick. I don't understand why this video got so political!! that was obviously never her intention. Brooke was just telling her story; she's not bashing Canada or their healthcare. It's legit a STORYTIME of her experience. That does not mean this applies to everyone or every hospital in Canada. I thought this is like common sense, but I don't understand why she's receiving hateful comments over this? what do u gain lmao
Because there is already a significant amount of misinformation in the US about Canadian Healthcare. This Story Time whether she meant it to or not is playing into an inaccurate portrayal of the Canadian Healthcare system and making it harder for anyone in the States to have a legitimate conversation about Universal Healthcare. There are numerous comments on this post already about how that is what you get with Universal Healthcare. No this isn't what you get, this was an anomaly and could have just as easily happened in the States and does everyday. As an "Influencer" she needs to be aware of the things she's posting. Healthcare has always and will always be political. She could have told the same story without being as decisive by not using such a ridiculously overblown title.
The problem isn't the video or the experience. It's the title. She singles out that the hospital was Canadian as if it's entirely Canada's fault, so we all respond in that way. Obviously, she doesn't hate Canada and knows not all hospitals are like this, but she's making it seem that way by using this in the title and wording for clickbait, Brooke isn't stupid she knows what she's doing. It's honestly so annoying.
Canadian Healthcare is Free for Canadians that’s why they asked for your health card if you are not a Canadian citizen your obviously gonna have to pay
Umm excuse me but twelve hundred is way too much money whether its Canadian or american dollars. I know she is a foreigner but for such bad service it shouldnt be that. Btw im canadian so dont get mad. And i agree with her, Canada's health service is really bad. Whenever im very sick and i go to the hospital for nothing, wait 4-6 hours just for the doctor to tell me to take a Tylenol.
FunStuffN&S lool no one said it was cheap 🤣 and not all Canadian Health care is bad you cant judge One whole Country based off of 1 or 2 hospitals in the country like what
didn’t you ever here of that one women who gave birth in Hawaii and had to pay like 100,000 grand or something like that. Just because she gave birth in hawaii
It’s not that she didn’t expect to pay, it’s that she signed saying she’d pay an pre-determined amount, which might be higher or lower than the resources and help she received. And don’t even get me started about the legality of having her sign while not being mentally sound
It's also normal to wait 12+ hours at the ER in Canada. We wait months for an appointment. It's "free"(actually we pay crazy taxes for it) but it is in no way fast and only the minimum is covered.
Cassidy Biberdorf She got an iv later after everything passing out etc also ive never heard of no water policy and ive been to canadas ers countless times
Michelle xo it could be policy for someone who is like actively vomiting or for someone they don’t have much background on especially if they think they could need emergency surgery, and from the way she made it sound i thought she got her iv before taking her blood and everything so like right away, my bad on that
Michelle xo I love in Canada and if they think it's something serious they never allow you to have water in case you need to go to an emergency surgery but they give you an iv I know this because I had to go to the er in severe abdominal pain and they had to give me four and a half bags of in fluid to hydrate me then send me for an ultrasound I wasn't allowed to pee or drink water they needed my bladder full that's just policy not because they are shitty
6 HOURSSSS 🤯🤯🤯🤯 What the f yo I’m so sorry you went through this. I know this story time was so long ago but you nor any other human deserves that kind of treatment in a hospital. Thank god you survived and are well now ❤️❤️ stay safe Brooke!! love you so much
Everything you’re describing about what happened to you physically, happened to me recently after having a couple beers. The next morning I felt how you did and it lasted through the whole day. Didn’t feel like a hangover though, felt much worse and I barely drank anything.
I’m sure someone else (or many) have already said this but the IV you had was giving you fluids thus assisting with dehydration. Yes, they don’t give water for 1) if you have to have surgery or anything 2) for the very reason that you wouldn’t be able to keep it down. I agree they should have explained this to you. Also, $1200 is actually cheap for a self pay ER visit. If you had been in the US, it would have been much more. Anyways, glad you’re feeling better.
Kara Howard yes her care would have cost more in the us if she doesn’t have health insurance.. but she’s never be lying on a metal bench in an American hospital & they would explain what was going on to her
Haley Von very true! I think they made untrue assumptions about her and that’s not ok, either. I have worked in healthcare for almost twenty years and I know it gets crazy in the ER, but it doesn’t take but 30 seconds to explain to a person what is going on and why they won’t give her water and that her IV is hydrating her. I am not; however, well versed in Canadian healthcare so I can’t really explain why she would have been treated with such little concern. Regardless, I’m glad she is feeling better and that it wasn’t even more serious.
We do the same here in US for ER patients with no traveler's insurance who are from out of country. They charge up front because they will obviously leave and most dont pay the bill. I know this because I work in the ER. Also you are right, it would of been more here on the US with no insurance. Also we have people wait in the lobby until there's a bed available. I work in a tiny ER with only 12 beds, we call people back in the order of who is the most critical. I've seen people vomit in the lobby with a bag and wait 4 hours. Specially right now with covid our ER wait times average on at least 4-6 hours just to get a bed. Its insane! But it is what it is. We can't discharge patients until they are stable. In my opinion she got at least a metal bed to lay on. Where I work I've seen patients wait for hours in a chair. So fucked up. But we have no room and we moving as fast as we can.
@@ritzismynamo First, and foremost, THANK YOU! I wish I could personally thank each and every caregiver right now for their sacrifice. I don’t work in a hospital anymore (I am now doing Quality Provider Education), but sympathize with how stressful it is right now. My heart and prayers go out to you!
Girl....this happened to my mom!!! It was the freon in the vape pen.... this was back in like 2010, so idk if they make them differently.. but my mom was deathly I'll, her vomit was even blue!!!
I’m glad you’re okay!! I’ve been treated very poorly in hospitals more times than I can count and when you need help being treated that way makes it so much worse!
I was born at that hospital and grew up in surrey and I can tell you that sounds about right. Free health care is not always good health care unfortunately. We are still blessed for it though in my opinion. I hate going to the doctors and hospitals out here because it’s almost never a good experience.
It actually is really important to not drink water if ur actively throwing up bcs if you have to go into surgery you’ll drown if you’ve drank water in the last 24 hours
I'm European and had to go to the ER in the USA when I visited my boyfriend .. I had to pay them 1 dollar and they said I might get a bill... I never did lol
Oo girl, I was dropped off at the ER because I got drugged. They also thought I was just a dumb drunk bitch so they gave me an IV and charged me $2,500, still triggered about that to this day. Was literally slurring my words and could barely stand when they made me check out and leave lolololol
nicotine poisoning from vaping and ecigs is very common. sounds exactly what happened to you symptoms to a t including the shakes.. that price for a blood test is actually low, in the states, without insurance it would be much more expensive. may i suggest 100$ travel insurance next time? and yes our healthcare is free, not to non Canadians tho, it wouldn't make sense to burden our country with the bill having tax payers pay for foreigners to get healthcare then not contribute to our economy on a regular basis. just be wary, nicotine poisoning happens a lot with vaping and ecigs. sorry you had a bad experience. its not cool the nurse treated you like an overdose, tho i do understand it what with the drug problem coming out of Vancouver, still that was rude and not professional. ps. its normal to pay before any non life threatening procedure as you were left alone and at any time could have dipped out on the bill. ps our wait times suck, but thats the price to pay for free healthcare. too many patients not enough docs as well.
I like how she very clearly points out how it was legal she was drinking because she was 20 and at first i was like "wtf why wouldn't you be?" And then i remembered that she was not in Denmark bc here the drinking age is 15 (or maybe 16) for alcohol with a "low" amount of alcohol. And 18 for everything so it makes sense now😂
Oh my GAWD! This sounds like the scariest experience and I’m so sorry you had to go through that😭 On a side note, BAD LUCK SHIRTS ARE A REAL THING😂 like legit my husband had this black and white flannel and every time he wore it, something really bad happened. Not even kidding, it was over a handful of times! It got to the point where I would have an anxiety attack if he wore the damn shirt. The final straw was his vape BLEW UP IN HIS HAND (for like literally no reason, brand new batteries, brand new mod, AND IT WAS A REGULATED DEVICE). I threw the shirt away🙃 I suggest you throw away your “bad luck shirt” too😂😂
they didn’t take your blood just for a drug test they need to take blood for all sorts of things they need to test the levels of hormones and everything like that incase you’re having a reaction or your potassium is low (it you have really low potassium then you can become really dizzy and faint) most hospital waits in general are 3-6 hours also most of the money you had to spend was for the IV kit used to draw your blood and tests of your blood. Anything can show up on a blood test not just drugs.
They took you, you had a bed, they gave you instructions about no drinking water, you did. I understand you don't know how valuable are this type of health systems.
that’s crazy i went to a hospital in PA last year because i had a stomach bug and was extremely dehydrated and no they didn’t give me water but they put an IV in my arm the second i was in a hospital bed and they made me stay there two nights and i had two blood tests and two CT scans sooooo
This is literally a typical trip to a hospital in Canada. I live here and there is literally one fucking doctor working in the ER if there even is one. Every time I go the average wait time is like 6 hours to see a doctor. It's honestly a mess. Canada has a really fucked up wait times and I knew someone who waited 10 hours in the ER and ended up just leaving and committing suicide because they couldn't find a doctor for him. There really is no excuse and everyone in the comments getting mad at you for telling your story is blind to an actual health care problem in Canada.
not all hospitals are like that. You can't say you won't go back to a country because of one bad experience. That's just generalizing. But yea our wait time sucks, but not everywhere. Most places take in the people that really really are in need
You can get your insurance company to reimburse you that money, my friend had to go to a Mexican hospital and had to pay $1200 as well. She told her insurance company when she got home and they gave her the money back.
In Canada we have health care and because it’s free people are going to the hospital for literally nothing cause they don’t have to pay so that’s why it take like 6 hours to get a doctor
It is a strict hospital ER policy to not give water to anyone who’s vomiting until all testing is done...they’re supposed to take your blood and start IV fluids to hydrate you....the blood work is to test for way more than drugs....they did every thing right as far as that goes but they could have given you Zofran to stop the vomiting way sooner...
Aw baby 😓 I’m so sorry no you did the right thing. Sometimes things things never have a resolution. But I’m glad you got people involved and cared for him. That was so beautiful of you. The other day I was behind a very very very intoxicated driver. They were swerving all over the highway and I tried to follow them and keep my horn going to keep others from around us. I called the police and they told me to leave from following the person and they will take care of it. I never got a resolution and it really hurt me knowing they could’ve harmed others or themselves but my mom let me know I did the best that I could and the only think I could. And that’s that. Just know you are so bright and have an amazing mind 🤟🏼
the cup of water was not gonna do anything for you, like you said, you ended up throwing it all up again, so it didn't solve your problem at all. but, the first thing that should have been done was get some fluids through an iv. that's standard procedure in my country for when someone has hipermesis. definitely seems like they had too much on their plate at the hospital but they should've managed it better to make sure that everyone was taken care of. hope you feel better!
Inês Tavares it’s standard for Canada as well if you are dehydrated or if it is a concern that you might be dehydrated mind you I believe it has to be approved by the doctor and it sounds like she had one in when she got her bloodwork done cause she said she remembers it hurting because she’s pretty sure she used the same spot as her iv. So I’d take that as her being on iv getting fluids
28:20 That's exactly what it's like when you have little to no insurance as well. I've gone through things like this time and again in the ER. They make you wait ages, do all these test, put fluids in you then send you home with a bill bigger than your yearly income😥 I'm not even in Canada.
I wonder if they couldn’t give water until after a blood test in case you had molly or ecstasy or something in your system (in which case I believe it can be fatal). Our wait times definitely suck, usually you don’t get in a room that quickly - but this sounds like a bad hospital experience in general. Sorry you went through that.
A friend of mine was in the hospital for weeks because she was sick. she had a collapsed lung and the doctors failed to tell her. She was reading the paperwork she got when she left the hospital, and one of her nursing friends told her what one of the words meant, and it was a collapsed lung. She confronted the doctor about it, and he said “oh I didn’t want to scare you” wtf???
hey i was at fvded too!! very sorry you experienced all of this, besides our long ass emergency room waits and hit or miss hospital service canada is actually great i promise LMAO
when I went to the hospital with appendicitis they didn't let me eat or drink and they still tried to get blood from me and i went 2 days without food or water I thought I was gonna die
I can't watch your videos with headphones cause the volume of the sounds I- .. ouch deadass head a mini heart attack and threw my laptop across the room
im watching all your vids rn and there soooooooo good but i really want them longer cause its super interesting but ik its alot of editing so :( BUT I LOVE YOU SO MUCH EVEN THO I JUST STARTED WATCHING UR VIDS AND YOU KINDA LOOK LIKE CHARI DAMEAILO OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT😂❤❤❤❤❤
I live in Canada and am Canadian and the hospital near me is brutal and the staff is rude as well, I went in because I had broken my ankle well at this point I had a walking cast on my foot and walked into a fast food place and flew in the air smashed my ankle in the boot down on ground so I go to the hospital wait four hours for a dr to come out infront of everyone call me a junkie just looking for drugs and its not for the pain then he proceeds to look at my ankle and yell you know you should really wash your foot. I was so embrassed and so were others they looked at me like wtf. Anyways he then says go home ice and take some tyneol I was like dude I wouldnt be here if I hadnt tried that, overall he was a douche
That’s fucking insane. I’ve been to a couple different ERs in various US states (my mom is a cancer survivor that has residual medical issues and has to go to the ER multiple times a year, so we’ve had to go before while on vacation). We’ve never waited longer than 40 minutes to be seen. If I had to wait six HOURS I’d be furious. I’d rather pay for my healthcare providers to actually care about me than get free shitty healthcare.
@@rebeccaabrams3079 EXACTLY!! I have also had friends that had to wait a full day in the hospital to be seen. One of my friends had internal bleeding and had to wait hours before getting seen. The wait times have costed people their lives many times.
They are supposed to hook up you up to fluids as soon as possible especially while they’re waiting for blood work... the fact they made you wait that long and then gave you fluids?? They should have done an abdominal CT with contrast to see the inflammation. Wtf
“i thought Canadian Healthcare was free!!” sis, the answer to your own remark is in the name. CANADIAN healthcare IS free for...hear me out...CANADIANS...🤭 it’s not called Canadian + Tourists Healthcare. I am Canadian, i can attest to the wait times being horrendous unless your are pregnant or dying you are definitely waiting 5+ hours. It is a “free” service we pay for via our taxes so MANY Canadians treat hospitals as medical centres for common colds etc rather than it’s real purpose which hikes the wait times. I was t-boned by a lady that ran a red light and hit our truck. I broke my foot, the seatbelt locked and caused severe trauma and bruising to my lower abdomen, my boyfriends head slipped past the airbags and hit the window cutting his head open AND WE STILL had to wait when we were brought to the hospital in the common area for hours. We weren’t given a separate room, we weren’t given priority treatment, nada. We sat in a cold waiting room, with 12 other people including a couple intoxicated homeless people who fake needing medical attention to regularly use the waiting rooms as a shelter FROM MIDNIGHT TO 7AM before I started getting examined, stitches and x-rays. I’ve never been to an American hospital so I can only assume, with your incredibly high medical bills you pay for what you get and it limits the amount of your services being taken advantage of.
Alannah Higgins why wasn’t I blessed with a notification for this dense comment three months ago 🤣 you sound like someone who would be fun to troll and probably American LOL I’d be pressed if I was too, I got you sis.
i was recently was in the hospital 1 day ago i got a apple juice and a soda i have no idea why that they would not give you water (im a canadian) DIS GUNNA MAKE ME MAD!
Marilou Morin Because she’s telling a story about her horrible experience?? I don’t see how that’s an attack on Canadians at all. It was just her experience.
Lol it’s honestly not that bad or hospitals arent fucking paradise and they arent ment to be and the way it works is very smart and calculated and it WORKS so I don’t mind. My standards arent to high either because that’s all I ever known and if they are helping me good
Brooke Sabey I mean you kind of are bashing Canadians right from the beginning of the video you're putting down Canada and because you had to go to the hospital you're saying you'll never be back this whole story seems very over dramatic and it doesn't seem as bad as you're trying to make it seem also yes the policy is no water or food incase you need to go into emergency surgery
you also could have been incredibly dehydrated. my sister passed out this winter from being dehydrated in argentina? that paired with the nicotine + busy day probably didn't help
RN here! The reason they did not want to give you water is in case you would need emergency surgery or need to be intubated. With water in your system, it is possible to aspirate when you are unconscious because you lose your gag reflex. Also, if you are vomiting, drinking water would most likely make you throw up again since your body is purposely trying to get rid of anything in your system. You mentioned you had an IV, was it hooked up to anything? I know you kept saying you were dehydrated, but if you were hooked up to fluids there was no reason to give you water for the first reason mentioned, but also you would be getting hydrated through those IV fluids. When in the emergency room, we like to take blood from basically everyone who comes in. Blood tests can tell us a lot about what is going on with someone. I do not think they took your blood because they thought you were on drugs. When they state "to see if anything comes back from the blood test" they are referring to if anything was abnormal in your labs. Sometimes care can take a long time in the emergency room because we cannot treat you until we get orders from the doctor which can take some time. Sometimes it can take a long time as well because we are racking our brains trying to figure out what is wrong and how to treat you appropriately. I am unfamiliar with Canadian healthcare, but I hope this comment helps you understand why they did some things they did.
Canadian healthcare is not free, we pay taxes. But all in all, as a Canadian citizen i get “free” healthcare. As for the water, if you need surgery or anything done to you, you can’t have water. Canadian hospitals are not perfect. They are short staffed and overworked. Typical wait times in the emerg are 5 hours or more. As for the bill, if i went to the states and had the same as you i could be looking at 5,000$ billed to me with no knowledge of how much it cost, at least you got to know prior to getting a bill how much it cost you. You could have been suffering from dehydration and they should’ve treated you nicer that’s for sure. But Canadian healthcare is not the best but it’s good and i wouldn’t form an opinion based off the one experience.
As a Canadian, I am going to write this comment as I watch. I don't mean anything mean by it, I just hope it can clear things up for you ❤️ 1. The drug problem up here is really bad, ESPECIALLY in Vancouver BC. Speaking from experience, most people have gotten so used to seeing people drugged out it doesn't phase them. It's truly sad to say but people OD every day, this is why Safe Injection sites are popping up all over the place. We are also suggested to carry around Naloxone kits to give to someone if we believe they are OD 2. At a lot of festivals up here, they give away free products to promote their products and their store. 3. I have seen a few comments saying this already but yes, our healthcare is free, but only for Canadians and it's only ”free” because we pay for it with your taxes. Also for wait times, they take the worst patients first (EX: Someone having a heart attack, an asthma attack etc.) and a lot of workers (from experience) hate their jobs and aren't the nicest to deal with (I had a nurse talk smack about me across the hall to another nurse while I was in the ER) 4. Sadly to say it is a protocol to not give someone water who is vomiting because at that point they don't know whats going on. They also probably didn't give you a saline drip because it can damage your kidneys 5. Sometimes the methods don't make sense but blood tests are the easiest way to diagnose people. It also will tell them if you have any drugs or alcohol in your system. As you said, they probably thought you were drunk or on drugs. Up here, you wouldn't believe how many people on drugs and alcohol come into ER’s on a daily basis. 6. I have never been to BC so I'm not sure what their hospital rooms or Emergency Rooms look like but sadly, they aren't made for comfort. 7. I'm not sure what time it was when you got to the hospital but it may have been that the doctor who they needed was not on call. 8. I'm pretty sure when they said if there is anything in your blood it was also to rule out infections and stuff Our health care system sucks. My health will never be the same since going to the hospital. There is a reason it is free haha. I'm so sorry from all of us here in Canada. Maybe come back, I'll bake you some sweets!
As someone who lives in Vancouver, I’m happy with Canada in many ways but there definitely still needs in healthcare and social welfare. Yes the idea of free healthcare is good but sometimes what they give isn’t enough. Canada isn’t as perfect as people think it is. I’m sorry you went through what you did. Yikes.
So many countries have free Healthcare and it works way better than it works in Canada. Like Sweden for example. I don't know that the answer is to eliminate free Healthcare.
I know how you feel I live in Canada I suffer from Crohn's IBS Nutcracker syndrome and SMA syndrome and when I have flare ups I vomit and have pain and all I want is water but they never give water to the point where I go to the bathroom as drink it I understand you completely
Why are Canadians so pressed over what she said yeah maybe her first assumption of it being “free” to everyone was a little dumb but she obviously was willing to pay if she said $1200 and for the record $1200 gets you way better treatment and comfort here in the US I would’ve been pissed too
I feel like an American hospital vs Canadian Hospital political war has started in the comments XD It doesn’t matter which country it was in guys she’s just telling her STORY not bashing all of Canada, this could’ve happened anywhere including America so chill. Btw her hoodie is really cute
The fact they took blood right after you passed out and was so dehydrated isn't good since when they take blood you need to be hydrated otherwise its so much harder to get blood
I live in Canada and YES you are right. The health care system here is a JOKE. I have stories I can tell you of people who have lost there loved ones because these “professionals” who work in hospitals did not give them the attention they needed and sadly passed away.
TBH I live in Canada and I once broke my elbow and I had to get these tests for no reason and after 2 hours I finally had done an x-ray and waited for another 3 hours in the waiting room and found out that I had exploded a tissue that protected my funny bone in my elbow so basically wasted 5 hours for nothing...... Canadian Health-Care does suck
Khushnoor's World at least you were able to go in to the Er and have all that done, without walking out with a $20000 bill. Be thankful for our healthcare it’s better than almost everywhere else in the world
I am sorry but you exaggerated how they mistreated you. You are NOT supposed to drink water, YOU should have listened to them. The bench was because they cant clean throw-up out of bed cushions. The IV will hurt because you are dehydrated so you will get bruised but there is nothing else they can do to avoid that. The only thing I see problematic is them not getting valid consent to bill you before treating you. Not a hater, Im a new subscriber and I think you are cool but girl, listen to the nurses, they weren't pulling the instructions out of their ass.
sounds like you had nicotine poisoning and extreme dehydration! i've heard alot of stories like this from countries with socialized healthcare. I really hope America never makes the switch :(
I’ve been to the ER so many times here in California and they don’t give you water when you come in throwing up. But how they treated you was so wrong. Not cool Canada. Cmon you guys.
She was treated really badly, but not all hospitals in Canada would have treated her like this 4+ years ago. I think it was because it was a sh*tty hospital in Surrey.
wtf this happened to me, i didn't drink/do anything, completely sober, vaped a little that night even though i couldn't breathe because of acid reflux, i laid in bed shaking i couldn't stop i couldn't breathe i was scared, i took a warm shower and it stopped but it was literally the scariest night of my life!!!!
one night i hit my head on my bed, then i went to sleep for school the next day because i felt fine. later at school i felt super nauseous but i had an after school project until 5 pm. so i told the people i was in the group with that i couldn’t stay because i felt sick and they were fine with it. afterwards i left school (around 3 ish). i called my dad to pick me up (my school is 25minutes away). before i left school, i was in line for them to check my ID and my feet felt like they were floating away from me. but my dad said we are going to go to the ER and when we got there my eyes were only seeing white and they were asking me all this stuff and i answered really randomly. later when my mom got out of work she came then i got a CAT scan, also the were wheeling me in a wheel chair and it felt like i was in a plane that was taking off. they told me i had a concussion then after about 3 hours of just resting they discharged me with a popsicle :). the hospital bill was $18k and my vision was permanently damaged. i had 20,20 vison (idk what it is now) but i had to get glasses and idk if it’s like this for everyone but when i take off my glasses i get really dizzy and feel dehydrated and sometimes almost faint. AND GET THIS.......... IT WAS FOR A TIK TOK😭😭😭
Megan Schwartz lmao it’s ok we don’t need little underagers coming to Canada to drink and fill the already busy Canadian tax funded hospitals with injuries & dehydration from over drinking. Tourists with travel insurance? More than Welcome!
K M it’s such a frustrating story to listen to. She’s all over the place. Signing forms when she passed out??? Like how. So she thinks it’s a reach that they want to check a festival goer with pj shorts and platform shoes for drugs? Like how bad trouble would they be in if the assumed no drugs and she died from OD. When I travel to the States, my options are to pay up front for emergency medical needs or produce my travel insurance documents. It’s just over-dramatic and I’m sure had I been an ER nurse she would have got in my nerves too with the hysteria over puking.
And anyone would be upset if they didn’t take your u seriously just because you went to a festival just sayin, I’d say it’s more about paying so much for crappy service no matter what country it was in.
all who are upset, i understand why she is upset.
1) No healthcare wouldn’t be free, but they should provide a bill after all the procedures are finished and shouldn’t have her sign a bill when she was unconscious/had recently passed out or blacked out
2) They should’ve explained why they couldn’t give water, in case they needed to do a surgery, but they just claimed it was because of their policy
3) She waited for 6 hours and wasn’t given IV fluids until being seen by a doctor
4) She was discharged without being informed of her diagnosis or how to get help in the future.
Everyone in Canada is bashing her for telling her story. Like she said, if the same thing happened in an American hospital, she would’ve told the story.
$1200 isn’t even that bad if a canaidian were to go to America the Canadian would have had to pay WAY MORE 😂
No hate tho I totally agree with you
Ellie Nellie
no, it could be much worse, but i feel like that would’ve come off better if she was given the bill when she was sound of mind :)
Angelina really? It sounded exactly how I am when I get food poisoning.
Brebellez she said she didn’t have food poisoning tho
Layla Thunberg 🤷🏼♀️ she’s also not a doctor haha so
Brebellez chances are she has a reason for saying that haha so
@@Brebellez yeah everyone (in the medical field) knows that violently shaking uncontrollably is a tell tale sign of a kidney infection. its what i instantly think of when i hear that symptom. as well as an insane amount of vomit. i've had one before. everyone's different. i've never heard of a case of food poisoning like this. usually it's just vomiting, nausea, really bad stomach pains, diarrhea. but like i said, everyone is different girl. but you're not wrong. it very well could be food poisoning, there's no way to 100% "diagnose" someone with food poisoning.
@@katiest.vincent4283 BUT ITS HER EXPERIENCE. IT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO HER

It’s not that she didn’t expect to pay, it’s that she signed saying she’d pay an pre-determined amount, which might be higher or lower than the resources and help she received. And don’t even get me started about the legality of having her sign while not being mentally sound

Lol I was finna type this then when I went to the comments the first one I see is this
Lolz same
Thought the same thing
The hospital you went to is one of the worst because of the area
just know it was surrey xd
It's also normal to wait 12+ hours at the ER in Canada. We wait months for an appointment. It's "free"(actually we pay crazy taxes for it) but it is in no way fast and only the minimum is covered.
if you had an IV then they were hydrating you, and they have to follow policy(which sucks) if they don’t wanna lose their job.
Lol she got an IV 6 hours after coming, which is very different
Rachel Estrada from what she said she had an iv when they were taking her blood...
also go to the doctor, this sounds like something serious not just something wrong with a healthcare system

You are really good at telling story times 🙂
Yo this is absolutely insane. I hope you’re feeling much better now.
Also if she were in America she would have had insurance and this wouldn’t have costed that much. (Most likely)
Girl....this happened to my mom!!! It was the freon in the vape pen.... this was back in like 2010, so idk if they make them differently.. but my mom was deathly I'll, her vomit was even blue!!!

The legal age in Canada varies by province. It's 18 in most provinces and 19 in BC. Just an FYI

It actually is really important to not drink water if ur actively throwing up bcs if you have to go into surgery you’ll drown if you’ve drank water in the last 24 hours
You're such a good storyteller
they weren't able to give you any water incase you needed an emergency surgery, thats a universal thing in any hospital.
I'm European and had to go to the ER in the USA when I visited my boyfriend .. I had to pay them 1 dollar and they said I might get a bill... I never did lol
3:47 some places it's 18 like in Alberta
Savanna Jardine most places are going over to 19+ now though for drinking or buying tobacco or cannabis
youngest drinking age where I live is 14, but 18 to buy/drink the hard stuff
Hi Brooke! Love ur vids have a great day
that’s crazy i went to a hospital in PA last year because i had a stomach bug and was extremely dehydrated and no they didn’t give me water but they put an IV in my arm the second i was in a hospital bed and they made me stay there two nights and i had two blood tests and two CT scans sooooo
There really is no excuse and everyone in the comments getting mad at you for telling your story is blind to an actual health care problem in Canada.
you’re story time videos are so good! do more!!😂❤️
If a Canadian without insurance went to hospital in the US it would have cost 10x that.
not all hospitals are like that.
@Westie spoken like a true expert! (not)
@Westie 😂

Lol it’s honestly not that bad or hospitals arent fucking paradise and they arent ment to be and the way it works is very smart and calculated and it WORKS so I don’t mind. My standards arent to high either because that’s all I ever known and if they are helping me good
Brooke Sabey I mean you kind of are bashing Canadians right from the beginning of the video you're putting down Canada and because you had to go to the hospital you're saying you'll never be back this whole story seems very over dramatic and it doesn't seem as bad as you're trying to make it seem also yes the policy is no water or food incase you need to go into emergency surgery
it's also standard protocol to take blood, they do it to everyone to figure out what the real problem is
you also could have been incredibly dehydrated. my sister passed out this winter from being dehydrated in argentina? that paired with the nicotine + busy day probably didn't help
Drinking ages in Canada are different for each province. Alberta is 18, British Columbia is 19.
I don't mean anything mean by it, I just hope it can clear things up for you ❤️
1. The drug problem up here is really bad, ESPECIALLY in Vancouver BC. Speaking from experience, most people have gotten so used to seeing people drugged out it doesn't phase them. It's truly sad to say but people OD every day, this is why Safe Injection sites are popping up all over the place. We are also suggested to carry around Naloxone kits to give to someone if we believe they are OD
2. At a lot of festivals up here, they give away free products to promote their products and their store.
3. I have seen a few comments saying this already but yes, our healthcare is free, but only for Canadians and it's only ”free” because we pay for it with your taxes. Also for wait times, they take the worst patients first (EX: Someone having a heart attack, an asthma attack etc.) and a lot of workers (from experience) hate their jobs and aren't the nicest to deal with (I had a nurse talk smack about me across the hall to another nurse while I was in the ER)
4. Sadly to say it is a protocol to not give someone water who is vomiting because at that point they don't know whats going on. They also probably didn't give you a saline drip because it can damage your kidneys
8. I'm pretty sure when they said if there is anything in your blood it was also to rule out infections and stuff
Our health care system sucks. My health will never be the same since going to the hospital. There is a reason it is free haha.
I'm so sorry from all of us here in Canada. Maybe come back, I'll bake you some sweets!
Yea the drug problem here is so bad!
Everyone else: (arguing over the healthcare system situation)
Me: OMG THAT SHIRT IS EVIL. BURN IT NOW!!!
if u feel like ur gonna vomit and shit it usually means you're about to faint lolll just FYI that's the usual symptoms lol
BROOKE!!!!!!!! LY GIRLY
I live in Canada and YES you are right. The health care system here is a JOKE. I have stories I can tell you of people who have lost there loved ones because these “professionals” who work in hospitals did not give them the attention they needed and sadly passed away.
couldn’t agree more
TBH I live in Canada and I once broke my elbow and I had to get these tests for no reason and after 2 hours I finally had done an x-ray and waited for another 3 hours in the waiting room and found out that I had exploded a tissue that protected my funny bone in my elbow so basically wasted 5 hours for nothing......
I really hope America never makes the switch :(
This is by far one of your funniest videos 😆. Coming from a Canadian myself- I feel so bad they didn't give you water hahha
Surrey.... yikes rookie mistake
Only certain parts of Surrey aren't great.. other parts are.
Wtf is that suppose to mean, I live in surrey. Awesome city.
one night i hit my head on my bed, then i went to sleep for school the next day because i felt fine. later at school i felt super nauseous but i had an after school project until 5 pm. so i told the people i was in the group with that i couldn’t stay because i felt sick and they were fine with it. afterwards i left school (around 3 ish). i called my dad to pick me up (my school is 25minutes away). before i left school, i was in line for them to check my ID and my feet felt like they were floating away from me. but my dad said we are going to go to the ER and when we got there my eyes were only seeing white and they were asking me all this stuff and i answered really randomly. later when my mom got out of work she came then i got a CAT scan, also the were wheeling me in a wheel chair and it felt like i was in a plane that was taking off. they told me i had a concussion then after about 3 hours of just resting they discharged me with a popsicle :). the hospital bill was $18k and my vision was permanently damaged. i had 20,20 vison (idk what it is now) but i had to get glasses and idk if it’s like this for everyone but when i take off my glasses i get really dizzy and feel dehydrated and sometimes almost faint. AND GET THIS.......... IT WAS FOR A TIK TOK😭😭😭
kind of offended that you assumed all canadian health care was like this when you only had one experience at one hospital. at midnight.
I can maybe understand not wanting to give you water but they should’ve given you an iv with fluids to quickly hydrate you
It cost me 3600$ just to get a lip ring cut out, they numbed my lip and used wire cutters to cut it out and charged me 3600 here in the U.S.
And anyone would be upset if they didn’t take your u seriously just because you went to a festival just sayin, I’d say it’s more about paying so much for crappy service no matter what country it was in.
