"I'm a lover of interesting stories. It just so happens that most of them are mine!"
This will most likely end up in my obituary some day. Love it Daniel.

You guys are doing a good thing. I have always thought of myself as a bourbon fan first, but as I've been watching the channel the last couple of weeks, I have bought several different scotches and some glencairn glasses, I have found that I like scotch better... Who knew... I never would have thought a simple glass change would have made that much of a difference. Daniel and Rex, you guys are so much fun to watch and are very educational in your reviews. Thanks for doing what you're doing!

Have to agree on the cigar rant. I used to smoke a pipe when I drank whiskey and after I quit smoking but kept drinking whiskey the flavors of the whiskey changed dramatically.

Richard Patterson is a character....I spent over an hour last night jumping from clip to clip of him talking about whisky, how to drink it, why its important, and in 80% of the videos he tosses some on the floor!

Been bouncing around this channel for a bit now trying to catch up on all the videos, and I gotta say this one is the funniest yet. Had me seriously cracking up!
The Nose is the man!! He's so entertaining and a downright whiskey wizard!! I learned recently that he helped design the Glencairn Glass too. If I ever meet him and he does that thing with the $60k Dalmore on me, I will be able to die fully content with my life.

Just got my first dalmore and it’s the 15, I love this. It is easy and still enough to be interesting. I’m a few months into neat whisky and scotch in general has gone Way up the list for me. It’s taken a little time coming from bourbons and old fashioneds to like scotch, but it’s taking a front seat now. Crazy how different it can be from one to the other.

After I listened to Mr Richard Paterson say the 15 year is one of his favorites I knew I gotta try that. And after hearing these guys talk about it im totally convinced to get a bottle immediately. I currently have a bottle of the 12 year and it is my favorite whiskey and easy to drink for a beginner like me. I cant wait to get the 15year

I have binge watched nearly all of your videos and I love you guys!
One request, I could you please share a little more about the smell and taste of each whiskey? I like the storytelling of the distillery and your rapport, but often miss the taste/smell profile of each whiskey, which will help me determine if I want to buy it.
Keep on keeping on! Shine. Not burn. ;-)

I love Richard Patterson. He's so entertaining when he talks about how to drink whisky. I don't care that it's the same message over and over with different people that he teaches about whisky. Haven't tried Dalmore yet. I find it once in a while at the liquor store, but it's more higher in price than many of my other brands that I enjoy

    1:26 “Priests love whisky”
    Case in point. :)
I have a bottle of this and have been (slowly) enjoying it. However, I wouldn’t characterize it as quite as friendly. The sweetness I find to be understated and the walnut-y flavor is more dominant to me.
Still very enjoyable and I don’t understand why my other Whisky hero over in the Manx bothy doesn’t seem to like it as much, but as they say (and speaking of Latin): de gustibus non est disputandum.

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a few of the Dalmore 12 and Cigar malts, about a year back when they finally had some in my local store. Prices were ridiculously low $60 for the 12yr.. bought one loved it then went back 2 days later and it was $90!!! Love the brand and the vids...very entertaining! Cheers!

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

    • @JimmyLeg
      @JimmyLeg 7 років тому

It's not worth the original $60. They've branded their caramel coloured, chill filtered, 40% brand to enough people. Like the two above for example. I accept your meet in the parking lot challenge!
      Just kidding, I don't accept.

I was once in your shoes and I wish I had had a guide to the world of whiskies. I suggest watching all the Whisk(e)y Vault videos for a decent survey of the topic. Watch even the ones you might not think you’d be interested in because you will learn something. In my humble and very ignorant whisky opinion, I’d start with Dalwhinnie or another Speyside like Glenfiddich OR a lowland Scotch like Auchentoshan for a gentle introduction to Scotch. Branch out and try both blends and singles...... explore! I was a single malt only guy until Daniel showed me the error of my narrow thinking. I really have to thank the Vault for opening that door for me. I enjoy whisky more than ever now and its true there are no bad whiskies and there is no wrong way to drink it. I sorry but I have no advice and can’t help you with American whiskies or Canadians. I don’t drink either because they give me a vicious headache. Irish is easy, because as a rule they are the friendliest malts. I prefer Bushmills over Jameson, but other people like Jameson or Tullamore Dew or Redbreast or what have you. It’s a matter of personal taste. What I like you might not like and vice versa. If you want to taste before buying, sample different whiskies at a bar or join a whisky club. Good luck!

I love this channel, and I don't know if I can call myself a Mooch, I mean I work at a liquor store where I can try many bottles for free myself. Or I pay Wholesale, I guess I get some points. Gentlemen, I need your help. Due in part to these videos, I need to try either the Dalmore 12 or the Highland Park 12. I want the Dalmore because it's pretty..... I prefer smoky whiskey, Laphroaig being a current favorite, but I definitely have a novice palette. I like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Talisker, for my smoke. I was gifted some Glenfiddich 14 BBR and it's ok? I enjoy the Monkey Shoulder which is a blend of 3 speysides. I really can't decide between which to buy next, Highland Park or Dalmore, since I know Highland Park should be a little smoky. Please advise.

I'm going to a gathering with a few of my good friends, some of whom are not really Scotch Connoisseur's...Which bottle should I take with me, 12 or 15? I know both Scotch's are delicious. I'm thinking the 15... On a side note, there will be some people there that don't have a clue about Scotch...Not that I'm wasting Whisk(e)y...but, am I wasting Whisk(e)y bringing the 15?

Just subscribed to the channel, great stuff. I'd be another that would love to see a cigar and scotch pairing. I generally find that my cigars get overpowered by my scotch, even lighter bodied whisky. I'm usually a 1-5 cigars and scotch a week and try a lot of different stuff. I'd like to hear what pairings you have tried!

the single in single malt means it comes from a single distillery. not because it comes from a single barrel.
so technically, dalmore is a single malt cause its comes from just 1 distillery. whatever that happens in the distillery doesnt matter.

I get given scotch as a gift from everyone, on birthdays and christmas, I suppose because they have no idea what else to get me. The bottle I enjoyed sipping the most so far, of about two dozen bottles of single-malt scotch, has been the Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve. Just a splash of it goes a long way for me; not something I could chug, but it goes down easy and yet it has depth. I know nothing about how these scotches are made and I didn't even realize how much a bottle cost until I tried to buy myself a refill, but I'm now in search of something that is better, while being cheaper. I might try the 12-year next, but dunno.,
It's funny how opinions and reviews and snob factor can rob me of my enjoyment of a particular whiskey. Buying a brand with a reputation or hype or whatever is really rather off-putting. I just want to have something I can enjoy, and not think of anything else. Hearing that the camera man dislikes Dalmore because of artificial colouring makes me sad, as I now I feel I'm being judged for drinking it. That's the downside of something that's popular I guess -- people tend to have opinions of it.
Anyways, this channel makes Whiskey fun and you two have a great personality. thanks!

I liked the 15 but I'm a super-noob. I thought the 12 was more complex with a longer taste.(if that's a thing?). I like both very much. If I were to generalize they both of them seem more sweet/fruity than say something like the the classic Laddie Islay - which is I'm sure a big "no duh" for those with experience.

I've been looking for a good starter and came across the Dalmore 15 gift set and need a seasoned whiskey drinkers opinion. If you go over to reddit, on the r/scotch or r/whisky, you'll find a lot of hate projected towards the dalmore series. The source of the hate is anything from e150 to chill-filtering, to non-cask strength avaliability etc etc. Do you find any merit in the hate or do you believe it's just the momentary trend which will blow over?

I think diversity is key. I don’t drink one whiskey all the time. You also have mood and time of year. I noticed that I drink less Ardbeg in the summer then in the winter period. Dalmore is maybe easier to drink, but not simple. Sometimes you’re just in the mood for that. Indeed like the coffee and cappuccino example.

Say what you want about "added color" or whathaveyou, but it's still solid whisky. I like complex stuff, black coffee, Islay scotches, and Dalmore is still good. It is a bit on the pricey side, but it's no worse of an offender than Johnny Walker, but with better whisky. Richard Patterson blends a damn good whisky and that's the bottom line

In conjunction with Rex's comments, Brian Regan, "I walked on the moon". ua-cam.com/video/qBJ6yptGqm4/v-deo.html (poor video quality, but it's the audio that matters).

Dalmore (12) is sooo good. I'm going to drive 30 miles next Monday just to pick up a bottle of 15 because a liquor store sells for 30 bucks cheaper than my local total wine.

Ok you have me intrigued that the makeup of the increasing age statements are treated differently. I was less than impressed with the 12yo and the original Cigar Malt. I will try the 15yo and get back to you. Still nudging you toward Glendronach though.

I'm on the hunt for Glendronach. Turns out their distribution here in the US has vanished. I wonder if they're geariing up for a new release with new designs. Either way, I"ll work on getting them!

The 15 was pulled from the market until stocks replenish due to being mothballed a few years ago and bought out but there is still some 18, 21 around in Texas(Dallas area).

Daniel, I agree that cigars don't completely KILL taste buds, but studies show that smoking regularly does, in fact, DULL taste buds. Luckily, if one quits smoking, it only takes a couple weeks for taste buds recover. So yes, technically they don't "die" (source: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5329949/). I'm not sure why professional chefs and sommeliers think they can smoke multiple cigars a day or packs of cigarettes a day and still think that they are tasting at full capacity... they are making their jobs much more difficult, and they are quite possibly making their work less valuable.

I just saw this episode. As for the comment on 8'35'' (you probably know this, but) Ralfy seems to HATE Dalmore. I find it interesting that such a notable whisky enthusiast puts this whisky so badly. Oh! And a parking lot fight between Rex and Ralfy would make for a very nice Thanksgiving special, just sayin'...

Yeah, he considers it shitty swill. Amazing to me. I love it, but there's no accounting for taste. We need to see Rex and Ralfy in celebrity death match.

There's an asshole on the internet!? What? Where? Who? How can that possibly be? And in 'Murca, nonetheless!? Well, you two aint it. I'll let you know if I run into him, though.
This was a great video. I assume I'll like smoky, harsh, demanding whiskeys, but the Dalmores are expected to be in every collection, so I'm sure I'll acquire a bottle or two soon enough. Unless the asshole buys them first. To be honest, I'm still enjoying being ignorant and having to debate and study and confuse myself. I'm sure I'll end up owning two of everything, but for this moment it's still fun to drive myself insane with this highly personal adventure. I thank you for feeding my mental agony. Cheers.
