We walked into this podunk convienience store in cape elizabeth in Maine, and asked by any chance if they had any Weller. The lady went into the back and said, "Yes, we have a red and green, which would you like?" we responded with, "Yes!" She brought 3 bottles out, 2 old antique 107 and 1 SPecial reserve. after ringing it up, we saw 76$, and were like, "Man, we can't afford, 76$ a bottle," she responded, "No, that is for 3." we paid like 23$ a bottle. Luckiest Day Ever!
No, disagree. Weller is just very well made wheated bourbon, and there is just not many in that category. I WAS very underated and priced for many years, and has a huge following for a good reason. It's really, really good stuff. You can't tell me a bottle of Jim Beam should be the same price as Weller. It is special, period.
Between that, and the "I don't even know what I'm doing here" moment. Gave me two solid laugh out loud moments. And add me to the list of folks enjoying the blind tasting for Rex.
Absolutely dug the comparison to 'Fixer Upper,' as I think that really is why I enjoy that show so much. Also great job on the whiskey review you guys.
I just snagged a bottle of this for $45 in Cincinnati and this video is making me really excited to open it. I love the videos and I've learned a lot on my new whiskey journey from you guys. Thanks!
I watch you guys every night as I drink whiskey now - you guys are awesome and the reason I’ve begun to taste whisky neat. What a whole new world. it’s amazing. Cheers!
This was my entry into Bourbon! i love it! luckily the major store near me does occasionally stock it and its $23 per bottle, but limited to one per person... it goes pretty fast
I loved Weller back in the late 70s and 80s. I didn't know anything about it other than I liked it better the Wild Turkey or anything else at its price point. Thanks for the review.
Finally watched all the videos. Great work as always guys. I dig the blind tasting format too. After all Rex has been on here for how long tasting whiskeys? By now he should be able to pick apart what's going on in a glass without having to lean on an "exposed" (you're welcome for the chuckle Rex) bottle.
I really enjoy seeing the blind tastings! I just recently started getting more into whiskey and my girlfriend now finds it fun to pour me a drink in the other room and have me guess what it is. She is always upset when I get it right, but hey! At least you guys made it so I get whiskey brought to me from the other room!
Yessssssss. The whiskey gods have spoken! For I have been searching for OWA over the last year and found nothing, but today I nabbed two bottles at a local liquor store. $40 each..no complaints from me. Cheers!
I'm excited , I was able to get a bottle of antique, have not opened it yet ... I did get 4 bottles of special reserve and love it ... looking forward to trying it ...
New subscriber here (though I’m hooked and have watched like 50+ of your videos). I was talking about what you all say about all bourbons tasting like cherry and my wife brought up a good point. That flavor you associate with cherry is actually closer to almond extract because most cherry desserts have a heavy dose of almond extract. I pondered this for a while but I think she is right. Taste some almond extract and compare. You might be surprised. Just a little background I’m a KY native and a bourbon fan from my beginnings in alcohol but now wild about scotch. You all are awesome. Keep up the good work. Sláinte!
I'm really enjoying the new tasting format; I think the best part is that Rex seems genuinely excited at the start of each episode. BY THE WAY, can we talk about the fact that Rex is still somehow just a 'mooch'? The Dude is making short work of those mystery bottles. Daniel.. watch your back, man; he's catching up quick.
So nice to watch this. After months... MONTHS of trying. Waiting. Hoping. Searching desperately... I finally scored a bttl for $50 here in OLCC Overlorded Portland, or. Was a real grail quest
Along with hanging out I'm learning, I understand the benefits of being a mouth breather now. I have not checked but based on what you said here, Blanton's is apparently a wheated bourbon. Love the channel and thank you for making the videos informative, whether intentional or not.
Blantons is not a wheater. Its buffalo trace mash bill #2, higher rye. Not wheated. Buffalo trace has 1 wheated mash bill and it jus the wellers and van winkles
I’ve made friends in Nashville and I can still find it for $25-$30 a bottle but good luck finding the Weller 12yr. The Weller Special Reserve is like $19-$22
Rex, you’re chip all day. Daniel has to be Joana, sorry mate😂 Also, I knew Daniels rant was in good taste. That’s why I find it so endearing! But you are correct. One must always ensure they are not stepping into the realms of snobbery.
Bought a few at $27.99 in 2016 when the 12 started getting ridiculously popular. Totally worth it for that and I will enjoy the bottles I have left. $60+? Nah. It's a fine whisky but not something that particularly excites me -- lots of cherry, oak, and vanilla. Scotch all day at that price point.
In Louisville kentucky here you can find Weller's for 100 dollars a bottle but for whatever reason the bar's haven't caught on to the value. You can still get Weller 12, and Weller 107 for about 7 bucks a pour even though Pappy will run you 100+ a pour. I got very very nice and drunk on about 9 pours of Weller 107 the other day.
In regards to the Proper Twelve, yes! Please do cover it. I know it seems like an easy bandwagon but I'm legitimately interested to know your thoughts on it. Specifically I'd love for you to take a second to talk about the color. It's much darker than any other Irish whisky I've seen but I have to imagine they got it out as soon as possible so it would only be three years old. I hadn't ever known if Irish whisky laws included anything about color though.
I had a chance to try the antique and special reserve side by side a few months back. The antique was far superior in my opinion. Really good stuff! Now if I could just find a bottle for sale...
I live in Bowling Green KY and it’s still 30-40. I picked up 750 ml special reserve a month for 28 dollars and a handle of special reserve for 38 dollars. Not expensive at all. Got a weller 12 for 100 dollars that same week too. I think I missed the antique 107 release a couple of weeks ago, but still have a 750 bottle I got this spring for 38.
With that being a store pic it’s a single barrel and usually non chill filtered so sock filtering may be needed ... i all wanted to ask if the store was deps which is store in northern Kentucky and does amazing picks . Owa is definitely a majority in my bunker . Can’t beat the value . I do a blend with Elijah Craig barrel proof and owa that is amazing.
around my area you can get weller for fairly cheap for instance i payed 40 dollars for a liter of 107. however there are waiting lists that take up to a year or more to get a bottle.
Can you do a list of hard to find bottles. A lot of these arent expensive but you have to get lucky to find them. In KC you can get 107 for $30 still but you have to find it or get on a list. Wonder what other bottles i should grab if i see them.
Always want to try a new bourbon after watching you guys. Will be trying Weller' s hopefully soon. Thanks gentlemen. Also have you tried Jim Beam double oaked?
$50 all day, every day here in Portland Oregon. Tough to find these days with the limited allocation. Becoming a unicorn...I finally found two bottles today and bought them both. I like 107 a lot, but I don’t think it’s worth $50 ($35-40 tops). As an alternative, I think Larceny is a fantastic wheater at $25. Need to stock up on that before it catches on.
Yep, I’ll second that Westerville OH comment. Bought a bottle 3 days ago for 40 bucks. Weller is getting very easy to get in Ohio. Antique is even becoming fairly common. Still regulated to 1 bottle a customer though.
When are you guys going to review that Smokin’ Gentleman’s Dram blended scotch from Duncan Taylor that I always see over Daniel’s left shoulder!? I couldn’t wait for y’all so I went and got a bottle myself! Curious to see what you guys think of it. Skål!
Do you guys have any Middleton rare? I have one version that has me super perplexed and drinking it way too fast for how expensive the bottle was because I just need to figure out what's going on in the whiskey but can't.
A friend of mine gave me 3/4 of a full bottle of Weller 107 Antique and 3/4 of a full bottle of Old Forrester Prohibition Style... for sharpening his kitchen knives (I run a sharpening gig apart from my day job). Of course now I'm willing to spend 60 bucks for a bottle of the Weller.... and the only time I've ever seen it was when it was almost free.
Can you guys do like a week of exotic premium whiskeys from countries that aren't the big on the market but are still somewhat respected in the whiskey community like, Sweden for example. You could also do that in a one hour video format. Just thought that would be fun to watch. Cheers

Can you explain the concept of "balance" in a whisky taste? What are some whiskies that are unbalanced? Also, I've never quite understood what the "body" terms mean (ie.. "medium bodied). Thanks!
I remember buying Special Reserve in the $18 range and Antique/12 Year/SR Handle in the $25 range 5-7 years ago. Bars in my area would actually use it as their well whiskey for house old fashioned / manhattans. Now I never even see Antique and 12y, and SR is hard to come by - usually $30-40 if you can find it!
As a non-bourbon drinking (nor bourbon educated) scotch drinker, an interesting episode idea would be something like a "introductory X for Y drinkers" show ie. "if you don't know bourbon, but like scotch, try this". You could pick out specific regions too (speyside, etc), and mix it up - ie bourbon to Canadian whisky, scotch to Japanese whisky, and so on.
@@Ichibuns very true. I grew up in cleveland but live in LA now. If I can even find Weller Special Reserve, its usually around $100. I brought a bunch back tho.

I work at a liquor store and for the past few days, minus Sunday, the same guy has called multiple times a day asking about Pappy and if we have a lottery or list. Dude is mental.
I pick up the Weller SR for $40 when I can find it in Los Angeles. I've seen it for $50, but I won't budge. I did pick up a Weller 107 in Burbank for $60-$70. I thought I would be able to get it regularly so I was enjoying it, but I stopped in there recently and they didn't have any of the 3 Wellers they had the time before so I slowed down on my 107 bottle. With a few drops of water on a pour I really picked up a strong caramel apple with the obvious wood and vanillas there. Would I drop $60-$70 again... probably, since it's looking like a rare find. Would I be happy continuing to pick up Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 year old for $32 if I can't ever find 107 reasonably priced again...yup. Do I like interviewing myself...yup.
I am just now seeing this video, 2 odd years later. I haven't the foggiest where you got the Deb's Liquor pick, but wasn't me. I got you 2(?) OWA107 regular. Cheers nonetheless.
I think the Poor Man's Pappy vid I saw was with Weller 12, but this would be be closer, price-wise. I bought my first bottle just 3-4 years ago -- in Hawaii of all places -- at a tasting hosted by Harlan Wheatly hisself. He told me to buy the 107 because it was "the best bang for the buck." At $23, damn he was right!
