  • Horwin CR6 electric bike review. Used bike bargain. These bikes are over £6000 when new. This has 200 miles on the clock and is only £3200. That’s a massive saving and has to be a used bike bargain! Big thanks to ‪@in2moto480‬ for letting me take it out. If you’re interested in this bike then follow the link to their website www.in2moto.co...

All of the cheap electric bikes have a shocking start up noise.

2 massive things I'd say to always include on any electric bike review that go alongside range... 1: what's the top speed (so many electric bikes are listed in KMPH, this claims 65MPH on the website, what was your experience?) and 2: is the battery removable so it can be charged in the house? (All good being a 3 pin, but if the bike has to go inside it defeats the purpose a bit, and in my case, I charge my ebike in the office on the 15th floor, if it's not removable it's a non starter etc).
Nice review though and good to see these getting coverage, definitely good that you make a point of those who go on long cruises who it's not suitable for and the noise, I personally don't want to wake the neighbours with my hours, and can't remember the last time I heard anyone comment in a good way about a any car or bikes with loud engines other than calling them a twats.

Thanks for the pointers. I will remember that next time I get an electric bike to review. 👍. On a personal note I really like riding these bikes. My only issue is the range. It just doesn’t suit what I use a bike for. And the noise thing. You would be surprised at how many times it gets mentioned from bikers. It’s not about being loud so it sounds good. It’s about being loud some someone in a car or a pedestrian can hear you.

@@GillyBikes yeah I hear you about the noise, that's definitely a big factor safety wise (but being in a city, as you can imagine there are a lot of loud reving morons who do it for other reasons). Range is definitely their biggest drawback (coupled with charging time), I'm on an ebike ATM and under 5 miles that's fine but then my gfs is a train ride away that would be about 20 miles drive and sections of that are 50 or national speed which is why top speed (most electric bikes equivalent to 125s seem restricted to 45, I can get 30 out of a 250W ebike peddling and allowing it to surge to 700W). For this exact one I had a look and the battery isn't removable so that's a definite no no. The super soco TC ranges have duel battery options and removable so I'll be contemplating that (prices seem to be creeping below £3500 and some under £3k for those brand new now). Big thanks for the reply and video, new subscriber 🙌🙌

5 - 10 years from now it will be very interesting to see how far ahead we have come with electric bikes. Compare a electric car from 10 years ago to todays cars and it's night and day. If my feelings toward going electric with motorcycles change like it did with cars I am confident we'll be in for an awesome future for us. Can't wait for electric long touring.

I like your optimism. I’m not sure though. Bikes are restricted more than cars because of their size / weight they can’t carry enough batteries. For me to be really interested in buying one they would need to have a real world range of at least 200 miles and be able to charge quickly. Hopefully they will be able to do that in a few years. Currently though they are loads of fun for really, really short journeys.

@@GillyBikes battery tech is constantly developing and at a fair rate as well, the fossil fueled engine is very well developed and as efficient as it will ever be, there is a lot more to come with battery power development than there is with diesel/petrol engines

Electric bikes are getting better looking, they still need to work on the range and charge times and at this price point they will get more and more popular

They are getting better and bikes like this make it more affordable but range and charge times are still an issue.

Range and charging times are an issue but hopefully these will improve over the next few years. They would have to for me to really consider one.

If I got one of these I'd be doing 10 miles each way to work. Literally free running costs.
If you buy this for a tourer well... You might not be the smartest buyer lol.

    • @GillyBikes

You would be surprised at how many people buy these and then complain about the range. I’ve seen quite a few with very low miles and it’s all because people don’t research them first. Some people still believe what the manufacturer says about range. Just like cars they seriously overestimate what they can do.

There is nothing environmentally unfriendly about electric bikes... Or cars, for that matter. The components are less material and labour costly and modern battery chemistry doesn't use unethical resources anymore.
Compare that to the horrendous waste of materials labour and components in ICE cars and there's no comparison. The comparison with bikes is less pronounced but still notable... The castings and components for engines and gearboxes are far more numerous and complex compared to electric motors.
The battery range is the biggest issue but with new battery and charger developments we'll soon enough see battery densities comparable to fossil fuels and charge times as low as the two minutes it takes to fill a tank.
It'll take a while to percolate into the bike industry but it will happen. Like all new tech, it needs time to mature.

Every time I ride a new one I see further improvements but for most people the range is way to short. Even the really expensive ones £20,000+ have a range that means you are really limited to short rides out. Thats not a biker thing. We ride 100 miles to get a coffee. Also the charging speeds are really slow. Not quite up there with the cars. In their current form they are only suited to people that don’t ride much. Everything I’m hearing suggests hydrogen is the way forward. But we will have to wait and see.

@@GillyBikes I do sympathise with that perspective, Gilly but that's not the point.
Quiet, efficient, perfectly adequate city commuting. And you know as well as I do that 100 miles for a coffee, while fun, is unnecessary.
These aren't about replacing motorcycles, they're about getting people out of cars.

  • @andyc750

no good for sneaking in and out with it making that noise lol, and not all you read about environmentally unfriendly, can't be recycled etc is rubbish and much is spread by people who will loose a lot of money when they become mainstream and it is still a relatively young technology that is only going to improve, having said that making a practical real world use bike is a long way off, when they will last long enough to go to work and back with a 50 mile commute for a week and still cruise at motorway speeds then they will be useful but as is they are just town bikes, personally I am interested to see where the tech goes, and with Kawasaki bringing out a hybrid bike soon things are changing whether we like it or not, and as someone who has spent years in the electrical trade including battery power supplies I can see many long term positives to come from it, but then again I love my fossil fuel powered vehicles

    • @GillyBikes
      @GillyBikes  10 місяців тому

I think your views are pretty similar to mine. They are just town bikes. Short rides. But they need to make so drastic improvements with range and charge times before they become common place.
