The best mid sized adventure motorcycle? Suzuki VStrom 800DE we really are spoilt for choice when it comes to Adventure bikes. I would class this as being on the big end of the mid sized bikes. Not quite big enough to be classed as one of the big boys. I have owned a 1050 VSTROM so I remember how that was. How does this compare? Join me for a look around and then a test ride. Absolute junk all of them that’s the reason why they got discontinued. Blah blah blah “it because society hates ev” if that was the case and Harley should never listen to society itself because they told them they wanted an EV motorcycle but even the customers motorcycles don’t even know what the hell they want. They literally made a brand that was never known for innovation, making one of the first mass produced electric motorcycles, and actually did a good job at it. However, it’s not in the books. It’s too expensive to manufacture. It’s not environmentally friendly in anyway at all shape or form and it’s not reliable or repairable by any means nothing more than an iPhone with wheels on it. Don’t believe me wanna argue with my point go ahead and look them up for sale. They’re literally worth half what they were brand new even after a year of use. Still don’t believe me go look up a Tesla model S from 2023. It’s like $40,000 now and that’s an $80,000 car brand. Still don’t believe me after all of that go try to buy a brand new lithium battery from Harley for your motorcycle you won’t because they don’t make it anymore. Go try to buy a brand new lithium battery for a 2017 Tesla model elastic cost $85,000. Wait oh yeah they don’t make it anymore. Don’t even try to counter my argument until you look this up. It’s very depressing and it’s very real. Meanwhile, you still have general motors and Ford motor company making parts for cars from the 70s. EV is a craze. Nothing more.

    i think i'm gonna buy this but the advanced version. it has an additional up/down quickshifter, cornering ABS, and traction control. i'm not sure if it misses any tech at that point. it even has cruise control. btw the keyless start also works with your phone, i think you just have to connect it with the cfmoto app. not sure how useful that is, but considering i always have my phone with me, maybe i can leave the fob at home then. probably the only weak point of this bike is the tires. they're decent but there's much better out there. i'll just immediately replace them with some michelin road 6 tires. make it a 10/10 bike right away. edit: forgot the adv version has anti wheelie control too.

    The great thing about a scooter is you are practically invisible to the police and the public is not intimated by them. I park my on curbs between street lights or on an unused part of a stores sidewalk and nobody cares. I have never been asked to move it or get cited. I have a 150 to test out scooters, I became disabled, and I found out I can handle them much easier than a traditional motorcycle. But I want to be able to go farther and this seems to fit the bill. I really appreciate your reviews. I watch them for bikes I have no interest in just to enjoy your comments!

I didn’t count all of them but I would say between geared bikes and scooters they must have at least 30+ so if you live close by it might be worth popping in and having a look. Just like every other adventure bike. They are made to go anywhere. I think looks are at the bottom of the priority list for this genre. Sad really.

    The euro 4 xmax scooter uses the same barrel and head as the early mt 125, and can sit all day at 70mph 2 up on the motorway,

    I have to laugh these days when they class an 800 as a mid sized bike . When I started riding a mid sized bike was 350 to 550 cc & anything over 650 was a super bike . I have always liked Suzukis & Hondas ,mainly because I have never had an issues with them used or brand new . I like the way Suzuki utilise their parts bin, across their range , & usually good discounts lower than the initial list price can usually be had ,once the model has been around a while . If I was looking for a new adventure style bike in the 800 ish size the DE would probably be top of my short list . 👍

    • @GillyBikes
      @GillyBikes 6 днів тому

      It’s very much on the high side of mid sized. 😂. Still a very capable bike that will keep up with the bigger bikes. It goes like stink.

      @@GillyBikes To be honest my 200O Y model Bandit reg in 2001 , which I flogged to downside further was more than adequate for real life everyday riding . It had 79 hp & a top speed of around 130 mph ,would cruise all day at 80 to 90 odd mph , loads of mid range stonk . You couldn’t even use all that power on normal roads ,without some homicidal motorist pulling out on you ,or loosing your licence . So 800cc should be more than enough to tour Europe even two up ,on that Suzi DE 800 twin. 👍

      Completely agree. There is an obsession with everyone wanting ridiculously large engines bikes with over 100 horsepower and you just don’t need it. These bikes will do everything you need and more.

      @@GillyBikes When my sister passed her bike test , she went straight out & bought a 1200 . I asked her why , & she said oh you have got to get the biggest engine you can afford ,if you pass your test . This is the mentality fostered these days ,by the motorcycle media . I reckon riders are to want to eventually ride the large powerful bikes , they will get better & more experience by gradually working their way up from small to medium & then large cc bikes . I don’t see the point of 100 hp on roads with 20 - 70 mph speed limits & a plethora of so called safety cameras . 👍

    Nice review mate, would you say the DE or RE would be a suitable first big bike? Imt 6 ft tall and I think seat height wouldn't be an issue, opinion would be appreciated.

    • @GillyBikes
      @GillyBikes 6 днів тому

      Both good options and at your height they will fit you nicely. If you’re planning on the occasional dirt road then I would go for the DE. I think the DE is slightly taller but only by a centimetre or so. Not really noticeable.
